• Checking JRE version inside browser

  Basically, I'm wanting to figure out the best way to check the user's JRE version on a web page. I have a link to a JNLP file that I only want to display if the user's JRE version is 1.6 or greater. I've been playing around with the deployJava JavaScript code (http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/deployment_advice.html) and have gotten it to work in every browser but Safari (by using deployJava.versionCheck). For whatever reason, Safari doesn't give the most updated JRE version number - I found this out by displaying the value of the getJREs() function. I have 1.6.0_20 installed, which is displayed in every other browser, but Safari keeps saying that only 1.5.0 is currently installed. I've also tried using the createWebStartLaunchButtonEx() function and specifying '1.6.0' as the minimum version, but when I click the button nothing happens (in any browser). Any suggestions?

• Save NSWindow Size on Resize & Close For User

  I've noticed that all applications on OS X seem to save the size you set it at. The next time you open it it's typically in the same position and size. I'm making an app and I've noticed that after resizing, if I launch the application again it's just the size of what I've set in Xcode 4's IB and not the size that I resized it to on launch. Do I have to manually save the window size each time its changed? Or is there an easier way to do this through IB? (My window does have a minimum size set if that changes anything.)

  Does anyone know of a good and economic svn + trac hosting site. Specific requirements 1) trac hooks should be in place, which enables commmit messages to be updated in trac issues. 2) It should have emailTotracScript or MailToTracPlugin installed, with which an issue can be reported via email. If its located in Asia pacific it would be great, as time delay from the US is very high. I am already using sourcerepo.com and its very good. Only short coming is they dont have emailtotrac and the time delay is significant. any other inputs would be helpful. TIA

• Is it possible to mod_rewrite BASED on the existence of a file/directory and uniqueID? [closed]

  My site currently forces all non www. pages to use www. Ultimately, I am able to handle all unique subdomains and parse correctly but I am trying to achieve the following: (ideally with mod_rewrite): when a consumer visits www.site.com/john4, the server processes that request as: www.site.com?Agent=john4 Our requirements are: The URL should continue to show www.site.com/john4 even though it was redirected to www.site.com?index.php?Agent=john4 If a file (of any extension OR a directory) exists with the name, the entire process stops an it tries to pull that file instead: for example: www.site.com/file would pull up (www.site.com/file.php if file.php existed on the server. www.site.com/pages would go to www.site.com/pages/index.php if the pages directory exists). • Boxee on Dell 32in TV causes headaches, how to troubleshoot?

  I have revamped an old pc, installing 4GB ram and a 256MB video card so that I could run Boxee to a Dell W3200 series TV that came with my apartment. It is connected via VGA, resolution is 1360x768, 24bit color, 60Htz refresh rate. Unfortunately, every time I use it I end up with a headache after less that 30 min. I have had my eyes check recently, and am able to play xbox (connected via hdmi) on the same TV without problems. What are the potential causes? My system seems to well meet or exceed the min requirements for boxee, XP, AMD Atholon 64 X2 Dual Core, 4GB RAM. Could it be the VGA cable? What is the most cost effective way to trouble shoot?

• When can argv[0] have null ?

  What I have understand about passing arguments to main() from command line is that argc has a minimum value of 1 and argv[0] will always have the program name with its path in it. If arguments are provided at the command line, then argc will have a value greater than one and argv1 to argv[argc-1] will have those arguments. Now a paragraph at this link says that argv[0] will be a string containing the program's name or a null string if that is not available. Now, how and when can argv[0] have null string? I mean program name with its path will always be available so when can it be null? Writer says that "if that is not available" but when and how it is possible that program name will not be available? • mysql select query optimization

  I have two table testa & testb. CREATE TABLE `testa` ( `id` INT(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `name` VARCHAR(50) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ); CREATE TABLE `testb` ( `id` INT(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `name` VARCHAR(50) DEFAULT NULL, `aid1` INT(10) DEFAULT NULL, `aid2` INT(10) DEFAULT NULL, `aid3` INT(10) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ); Currently I am running below query for retrieving all rows where id in testa table matches with any columns of aid1,aid2,aid3 in tableb. The query is retreiving acurate result but it is taking minimum 30 seconds to execute which is too much. I have also tried to optimise my query using UNION but failed to do so. SELECT a.id, a.name, b.name, b.id FROM testb b INNER JOIN testa a ON b.aid1 = a.id OR b.aid2 = a.id OR b.aid3 = a.id ; How do i optimize my query so it's total execution time is within 2-3 seconds? • How do I do a fresh install of Google App Engine?

  I've been using GAE for months now, but very recently I've had difficulty getting the latest release (1.3.4) to work for me. I'd like to remove GAE and start from scratch and reinstall it. However, it appears that deleting the googleappenginelauncher.app is not enough to completely remove it, because when I install the launcher again I see that it remembers the applications it was running previously (so at a minimum, there are some config files out there that I'm not removing properly). I'm new to Macs, so if there are other things I need to do besides deleting the .app, please let me know. Thanks for your help!

  Hi, The situation is as follows:- We have n number and we have print them in sorted order. We have access to balanced dictionary data structure, which supports the operations serach, insert, delete, minimum, maximum each in O(log n) time. We want to retrieve the numbers in sorted order in O(n log n) time using only the insert and in-order traversal. The answer to this is:- Sort() initialize(t) while(not EOF) read(x) insert(x,t); Traverse(t); Now the query is if we read the elements in time "n" and then traverse the elements in "log n"(in-order traversal) time,, then the total time for this algorithm (n+logn)time, according to me.. Please explain the follow up of this algorithm for the time calculation.. How it will sort the list in O(nlogn) time?? Thanks.

• What is needed for 'Previous Versions' to be visible on the client OS?

  I have servers with Shadow Copies enabled taking snapshots a couple times a day. From the server, if you look at the local devices you can see the Previous Versions being populated reliably. But from remote clients, the ability for an end-user to see the Previous Versions seems to be very hit-or-miss. For the sake of this question you can assume that all my clients are Windows 7 and the Servers are Windows Server 2008 R2. Is there an exhaustive list of everything that is required for end user to see Previous Versions? Are their any requirements for a certain level of share or filesystem permissions, other then read access? Does something need to be open on the firewall, other then what is already in-place for normal Windows networking?

• Receiving faxes on printer even while computer is shut down?

  I normally send faxes with a very old fax machine and I was thinking it takes so much time for every fax to be scanned for all the numbers so I would like to send faxes with a printer. I already have an all-in-one printer, it can scan and print, but I have the document I want to fax on my computer already, so there is no need to scan. Now, the question is if I buy a fax capable printer, will it receive my faxes even when the computer is shut down or do I need to keep the computer on? What I really want is a way to send a lot of faxes to a lot of numbers as fast as possible (the document already in the computer through scan or sending) to be able to receive the fax in my computer (even while off) so I can print it with my printer If both are possible then what requirements do I need? Also, I could not find any info on the internet about receiving faxes on the computer.

  Sorry for bad English :( Suppose i can preliminary organize recipes and ingredients data in any way. How can i effectively conduct search of recipes by user-provided ingredients, preferably sorted by max match - so, first going recipes that use maximum of provided ingridients and do not contain any other ingrs, after them recipes that uses less of provided set and still not any other ingrs, after them recipes with minimum additional requirements and so on? All i can think about is represent recipe ingridients like bitmasks, and compare required bitmask with all recipes, but it is obviously a bad way to go. And related things like Levenstein distance i don't see how to use here. I believe it should be quite common task...

• Error 1603 when installing Microsoft Intellipoint 8.2 on Windows 7 x64

  Installing MS Intellipoint 8.2 (for my MS touch mouse) on my Dell Inspiron 580 always gives the following error: "Setup must close because an error occurred. Verify that your computer meets the system requirements on the product packaging. Restart your computer and try running Setup again. If this error happens again, see Help for customer support options. (Error Code 1603)" I'm running Windows 7 x64 with all latest updates. MS solutions don't work. How to fix?

I want a specific URL to load like this: http://example.com/f/2011/image.png?attribute=small When a URL in a format such as this hits, I'd like to rewrite it to hit the server as: http://example.com/generate.php?f=2011/image.png&attribute=small Based on above, my question is two-fold: How can I rewrite the URL in htaccess to meet my requirements above? If the original URL didn't have the attribute query string parameter, how can I ensure attribute will be false/blank/etc when it hits the server via htaccess?

This menu allows to navigate to any step user completed or going to complete. Inspite of big button "Save and Continue" some users click this menu to navigate further. I have to check - if values have changed in a form and ask: "Save changes? Yes/No". What is the best way (with minimum code) you suggest me to check if form values have changed. • Prevent Session from being created In some cases

  In my app, I have an external monitor that pings the app ever few minutes and measures its uptime / response time Every time the monitor connects, a new server session is created, so when I look at the number of sessions, it's always a minimum of 15, even during times where there are no actual users. I tried to address this with putting the session creation code into a filter, but that doesn't seem to do it - I guess session automatically gets created when the user opens the first page? all() { before = { if (actionName=='signin') { def session = request.session //creates session if not exists } } } I can configure the monitor to pass in a paramter if I need to (i.e. http://servername.com/?nosession, but not sure how to make sure the session isn't created.

• Maven easyb plugin java heap space settings?

  Hi, I attempted to change my heap size for maven easyb plugin http://www.easyb.org/maven-easyb-plugin/. In my easyb test I added standard code to print the heap size using the code Runtime.getFreeMemory() and Runtime.getTotalMemory(). I tried setting the MAVEN_OPTS=-Xmx1024m -Xms1024m and also set the maven opts in Maven surefire plugin. Now when I run the same class from the Junit I can see the getTotalMemory() displaying a number close 1Gig but the when the same classes are invoked from easyb plugin they do not reflect the memory size. Shouldn't there be a way of passing JVM opts to maven easyb plugin when it runs these easyb tests? At the very minimum it should atleast pick up the MAVEN_OPTS settings from the environment. Has someone bumped into problems like this? (A search on this group's archive does not reveal much)

• Postgresql sequences

  When I delete all records from a Postgresql table and then try to reset the sequence to start a new record with number 1 when it is inserted, i get different results : SELECT setval('tblname_id_seq', (SELECT COALESCE(MAX(id),1) FROM tblname)); This sets the current value of the sequence to 1, but the NEXT record (actually the first because there are no records yet) gets number 2! And I can't set it to 0, because the minimum value in the sequence is 1! When I use : ALTER SEQUENCE tblname_id_seq RESTART WITH 1; the first record that is inserted actually gets number 1 ! But the above code doesn't accept a SELECT as a value instead of 1. I wish to reset the sequence to number 1 when there are no records, and the first record then should start with 1. But when there ARE already records in the table, I want to reset the sequence so that the next record that is inserted will get {highest}+1 Does anyone have a clear solution for this?

Many posts I've read seem to indicate it might be possible to run it on Windows 7 using one of the following: VirtualBox, Windows Virtual PC, VMWare but I'm not entirely sure.
