  • WAN interface responds as LAN when request comes from LAN, is that correct?

    Hi Everyone! I have a problem with my router/modem. I've published an HTTP service from one of my internal computers and when I access the service from the internal lan using the external IP address the modem responds instead of redirecting the call to the forwarded port. I can access the service from outside however, but from the internal network the modem responds to my calls. I'm using a ZTE ZXDSL 831 Series modem with ZXDSL 831IIV7.5.1e_E09_BR1 firmware.   • How to remotely open gedit with SFTP URL in Gnome through SSH?

    My setup is weird and I can't change it now. I have two machines: local-machine: it's my desktop running Ubuntu with Gnome remote-machine: it's one virtual machine, also running Ubuntu but without X In both machines I have my private and public SSH keys. I need to run SSH from remote-machine to local-machine and run gedit (in local-machine, under the default $DISPLAY) but openning a file in remote-machine throught SFTP. Something like this: myuser@remote-machine:~$ ssh local-machine "DISPLAY=:0.0 gedit sftp://remote-machine/some/file" The command above doesn't work. gedit shows this message: Could not open the file sftp://remote-machine/some/file. gedit cannot handle sftp: locations. Note that: /some/file exists on remote-machine. I can SSH normally from remote-machine to local-machine using my SSH key without any problems! I can run the command DISPLAY=:0.0 gedit sftp://remote-machine/some/file in a terminal on local-machine and gedit opens the file on remote-machine without any problems - but the terminal in which I executed the command is running in DISPLAY :0 (really, it's gnome-terminal). I also tried -t option of SSH client (to force pseudo-tty allocation) but it didn't work. If I try to run DISPLAY=:0.0 gedit sftp://remote-machine/some/file in local-machine but under a tty (for example in tty1, by pressing <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<F1>) it doesn't not work - I get the same error when running from remote-machine. I found that if I pass the environment variable DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS with a correct value, it works! So, if I do something like that: myuser@local-machine:~$ env | grep DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS > env.txt myuser@local-machine:~$ scp env.txt remote-machine: and then: myuser@remote-machine:~$ ssh local-machine "DISPLAY=:0.0 $(cat env.txt) gedit sftp://remote-machine/some/file" it works! The problem is that I'm not on local-machine so I can't get the correct value for this env variable. Is there any other way to make this work?

  • Windows 7 detects my 1 TB disk as a disk with only 31 MB space

    I've added another 1 TB Western Digital disk on my computer (there is a disk with 250 GB already), and after booting to Windows 7, it recognise the disk, but in the Disk Management panel, it says the disk has only 31 MB TOTAL space, so is what it shows in the EVEREST information. And when I rebooted the computer and entered BIOS, it said the new disk has 0 MB disk capacity. Is there any way to fix this problem?

  • Windows Installer using usb drive for temp purposes

    When installing apps that are built around Windows Installer, it would appear that it often uses my external usb hard disk (when it's connected) as the temp location while it expands and installs the application (creates a folder off the root with a guid name). Is there anyway to change this so it always defaults to a specific drive? This appears to be the case on Windows Vista and 7, not sure about previous releases. EDIT: Current environment variables look like this: TEMP=C:\Users\<me>\AppData\Local\Temp TMP=C:\Users\<me>\AppData\Local\Temp EDIT: I have a funny suspicion that it's using the drive with the largest available free space.

  • rr.com appended to URL and I don't know why

    I've been having some pretty bad and intermittent internet connectivity issues. I keep getting timeouts on my browsers, or what appears to be timeouts on my browsers. In Chrome it's generally error 21. FF it times out. And so on. While this is happening, I can go into the command line and ping or traceroute the same domain and it works fine. I use my cellphone on the same network and it's fine connecting to the same domain. And when it fails, it's all domains that are down in all browsers, chrome, FF, etc. I also noticed that when I try to connect to 192.168.1.1 it says in chrome did you mean www.192.168.1.1rr.com but when I enter https://192.168.1.1 it's fine. It only seems to do this in Chrome. This is making me think I have a virus. I did some researching about something called road runner, but I can't find any related traces. I also ran a full virus scan using nod32 (eset) and nothing. Any suggestion or help would be greatly appreciated. The intermittent loss of total internet access is really annoying and I'm worried about why it's trying to append the rr.com domain in Chrome. I suspect I'm dealing with two different issues, but you never know. Also for the DNS I'm using Google's DNS servers, the famous 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4

  • Dual Monitors don't wake up...

    Recently I put my second monitor on my computer. I have now two connections on my ATI graphic card: a VGA and newly added a DVI one. like this: Sine that, I need to start my computer with monitors powered ON, because if I do it after, thay does not "get up" and says that is "no video entry". Also, if I switch OFF my monitors when computer works, switching ON lets them in the sleep state... How can I fix this issue.

  • Windows Explorer is blank

    I am using Windows 7 Utlimate x64. Once a week, or so, when I boot up n the morning and launch Windows Explorer it shows up blank, as the following screen shot show. Clicking on my Computer doesn't load anything. Interestingly, I can go the the Address bar at the top and type in a folder name. This brings up that folder's files and subfolders, but as I drill around the tree of folders on the left only shows the immediate folder and not its siblings. There's no plus icon to expand the folder, etc. My usual "solution" is to reboot, which typically brings everything back to normal, but this is a frustrating remedy. Any idea what's going on and how to fix it? Some Googling turned up this discussion, but the remedy was to uninstall a particular piece of software that I don't have installed (Virtual Clone Drive).   • Too many connections to 212.192.255.240

    Recently, my Internet slowed down drastically. I downloaded a tool to see the TCP/IP connections from my Vista computer. I found out that a lot TCP/IP connections are being connected to 212.192.255.240 through SVCHost. It seems that it is trying to connect to different ports. I think that my computer is being infected with some kind of malware etc. But I am not sure how to get rid of it. I did a little bit of research on this IP but found nothing. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. UPDATE: This is the HiJackThis log file and I can't find any thing weird. Also, the program is also trying to create connections to 91.205.127.63, which is also from Russia.   • Migrating Windows XP BOOT.INI Settings to Windows 7 Boot-loader

    Two months ago my motherboard died, so I bought a used computer that came with Windows 7. I have since installed my old hard-drive, which had Windows XP on it, in this system. What I am trying to do now is to figure out a way to migrate the settings from XP's BOOT.INI into 7's boot-loader. Below is the BOOT.INI I used in XP (I have reduced the strings and updated the disks to point to the new location of the old HD. Oh and I am not clear on the drive letters. In XP, I could boot the recovery console or MS-DOS from a file in C:\ that contains the boot-sector. I am not sure what drive letter it would be called now—I had to manually change all the drive letters of the old partitions in Windows 7 because it auto-assigned them all wrong/differently).   • Is there a good XP like windows explorer for windows Vista?

    I'm still refusing to go to Windows Vista and now Windows 7 mainly due to the windows explorer, I find it cumbersome and hard to use exclusively with a keyboard. I use XP file explorer in the most basic view, the address bar at the top and files always in list view underneath. The reason I do this is because I'm almost blind and do everything from the keyboard and don't touch the mouse whilst navigating through files, this is because I can type "L[ENTER]D[Enter]B[Enter]" and know that I'm in "c:\documents and settings\Brett Ryan", and I can hit [Tab] once to go to the address bar to type in a folder. Can anyone suggest a replacement for windows explorer that brings back this basic navigational behavior?

  • Windows 8 asks DotNet 3.5 to install DotNet 3.5

    While trying to install some tools in Windows 8, it showed me a nice message saying it requires DotNet framework. Well, it's fine. But the bad part is I have offline installers for v2.0 and v3.5. While I'm trying to install those installers it shows me the same message as it shows above. I can't consider the web installer, because I don't want to download around 100MB. The file I have works fine for other versions like Windows 7 or XP. Any fixes?

  • Running a powershell script at startup

    I am writing a script to remove a computer from the domain, rename it, then add it back. It works fine when I set the trigger to AtLogOn but when I switch to AtStartUp I run into some issues. I get this error when it restarts to run the first scheduled task: 0x8007051F: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. I suspect the script tries to run with no network connection set up so I tested using the RandomDelay parameter, and it worked like its suppose to. I cant rely on a random delay so I am looking for an alternative. Is there a way to test the network status before the script begins or a way to delay the script a specific amount of time? I am using Register-ScheduledJob provided by Powershell 3.0 Thanks in advance

    Can anyone explain this? On this laptop, ustream and justin.tv don't work - just get a blank screen. But UTube and bitgravoty work fine (also flash based). 64-bit windows 7 - but I have 64-bit windows 7 on my desktop machine and everything works fine there. Good place to test is here http://live.twit.tv/ where the bitgravity feeds work fine, but ustream and justin.tv don't.

  • Restrict iPhone messaging to corprate osx server messaging service

    I have not found much information about this. We have company owned iPhone and iPads. We would like our employees to be able to message but require all messaging traffic to go through our local mountain lion osx server (not setup yet). How would the phones and server need to be configured to accomplish this. Specifically is it possible to restrict the user from adding additional accounts? How about another app that would use the server? Do you know of any good documentation on setting up this service on osx server and iPhone? I am open to other solutions, opensource messaging servers.....
