• Installing grub2 on ubutntu with software raid mirroring

  Hi guys, Can someone help me out on this? I accidentally installed grub on usb flash drive during ubuntu server installation. Now I cant boot system without drive attached to server.   Hi guys, I am here with a problem to restore the font setting of my vista. I am using Windows Vista and due to unknown reasons my font settings have been changed to ugly font. I used to get clear fonts previously but all of sudden the fonts have become blur and font name has also changed. all windows programs showing default fonts have been changed. I dun know which is the true font of windows vista and from where to restore. I tried using color and apperance but it didn't worked... so what can be done?

• memtest86+ crashing on server

  we have a few DELL 1950 servers. 1 of this servers has CentOS6.3 and its randomly rebooting so I suspected it was hardware. (no log generated) the other 4 servers do not randomly reboot. We passed memtest86+ on the 5 servers, and on 3 of them memtest86+ crashes (displaying an odd and colorful screen, like if a video card failed) Although I tested old memtest86 (not +), and all servers did not crash. I also tested other RAM testers utilities, no tool failing. have any of you guys experience this? thanks

• systemctl (Fedora 17) and interacting spawned processes's consoles

  Introduction I've recently upgraded to Fedora 17 and I'm getting used to the newer systemctl daemon manager versus shell init scripts. A feature I need on some of my daemons is the ability to interact with their consoles because unclean shutdowns not initiated by the process itself can cause database corruption. So, performing a systemctl stop service-name.service for example might cause irreversible data loss. These consoles read user input through stdin or similar methods, so what I've been doing on my old OS is to place those daemons foregrounded in a screen session, and I suspended that screen session with ^A ^z. It's also worth noting that I've now made systemctl do this automatically if the computer reboots, but it still doesn't solve my potential data corruption problem I'm trying to avoid. My Question Is there a way to use systemctl in order to directly interact with the console of processes it spawns? Can I hook a process through systemctl to get access to its console?   Have you ever plugged in a USB drive or any external device with a hard drive and wondered why you cannot see it in My Computer? I often have, I believe my USB is not broke .. because if I plugin the USB to another computer could be seen / detected. • SQL Server 2008 database Backup

  Hi guys, today I was trying to restore a database with a backup I had made previously on another computer, however I kept getting the following error message: the media loaded on "filepath" is formatted to support 2 media families, but 1 media families are expected according to the device specification I didn't look into it at the time, I just figured it was a bad backup and I'd redo it when I got home. So now I'm trying to do another backup, and I'm getting the above error message for that too. I did backup to a different location at one point, however that no longer exists now. Is there a way i can get passed this error and just do a fresh backup of the database? any pointers would be much appreciated :)

• It takes a long time until windows xp recognize I connected USB diks

  Hello IT guys, I have a problem with my new USB disk. When I connect it to my laptop with Windows XP SP2 it takes about 4-5min until Windows recognized it and show it as a new disk. I can also see (disk's LED is blinking) that something is scaning the disk when I connect it, when this is done Windows imediately recognize it. Also when I'm copying data to this disk the speed is about 3.5MB/sec. It's connected using USB2.0. I tried to check for spyware (using spybot), also run windows in safe mode. But still have the same problems. Do you have any idea what could help to solve this problem? On Windows Vista (another laptop) everything is ok, disk loads in about 15sec and speed is about 20-30MB/sec. Thanks a lot for every advice!

  I hi guys i'm trying to accomplish something: i have a modem (ADSL) which servers as a wireless router as well. There's a laptop connected to it through cable. On the other room i have a laptop which is connected through the router wirelessly. Now the problem is, since i have other appliances that need to get connected but are not wifi cable i have another wifi router. • Template loading slowness on VPN

However, if users try to create a new word document from a template when they are connected to VPN outside of the office, it takes nearly 20 minutes to create a word file which is not reasonable at all. Somehow i can go to some web pages, but i cant login to them, for example www.buzzerbeater.com, i cant access my hotmail/msn, outlook doesnt work either, also www.realgm.com, i cant access the forums too. I have tried with IE7/Firefox/Chrome, but same result. I was using avast free edition that i removed, and i dont have any other security software installed. My laptop from the same network works perfectly. Any ideas?

• Updating Applications in a Corporate Environment

  I am very new to this subject and was hoping someone could shed some light on it. I am working on creating a corporate network that will obviously have multiple servers and multiple workstations. Let's say a new version of Adobe Flash comes out. I would think that you would want to test this update in a test environment before "pushing it out" to the servers and workstations. How do you guys go about controlling, testing and then pushing the application updates out? (i am not talking about windows updates). Do you use a 3rd party sysadmin tool? Home grown software? Any info will greatly be appreciated :)

• Can you remap "C:\Program Files" like you can with "My Documents"?

  I'm not sure if this is possible, but I'm hoping you guys will know one way or the other! I'm going to be reinstalling windows xp, and the primary master IDE is a smaller 10 gig drive. I'm pretty sure that if I tried to install all my programs back onto the C:\ drive that they'd not all fit. Is it possible to get my Program Files directory to point to a partition on one of my larger drives, so I don't end up with some of my programs on C:\ and others on D:\, E:\, etc?

One of them has an extremely powerful CPU, and it's very useful to use that computer to perform heavy computations, but go there and set up your task means its user has to stop working for a while. Is it possible to allow a secondary user account to remotly log in, for example via Remote Desktop, and work with a full user environment, while the main user keeps working under his user session? I've used remote desktop many times in the past, but it always blocked current user session, or even terminated it. Lots of thanks in advance guys.

• How to revert to "last known good configuration"

  Hi Guys. I failed to install ubuntu 10.04 with WUBI, for some reason it's showing me the root partion is not defined. I'm bored to fight with it so I just removed ubuntu in windows. However this installation made my original Windows XP cripple, a normal boot will end up with a blue screen, error code 7E, I'm still able to boot with the 'last known good configuration' tho. My understanding is booting like this will recover things and I'm supposed to be good when reboot, while this is not the case for me, I have to choose the 'boot from last known good configuration' each and every time to work around the blue screen. Could you suggest how could I resolve this? I feel it's foolish having to waste 10 more seconds each time starting the OS.

• Corrupted files, hard drive test?

  Hi guys, I'm currently on a macbook with a 1TB external hard drive connected trough a USB hub wich is connected on my macbook. The problem is, my disk, wich is partitioned in 2 (one HFS+ and one NTFS) keeps getting corrupted, recently it was my HFS+ partition, I could not repair it using the Apple's Disk utility, but was able to backup my files. Is it synonym that my hard drive is failing? Is it because of my USB hub? I also keep all my iTunes library on my external HD (HFS+ partition), and did a lot of transfer lately, adding files, removing etc. the last time, my partition got corrupted after a lot of deleted items. If anybody has an idea of what to check first, what could cause the problem, I would appreciate it :) Thanks!

  Hey guys, I have sql05 and my maintenance plan which backs up a database to an external storage SAN, has been failing every night. Here is my error: Executing the query "BACKUP DATABASE [master] TO DISK = N'\\192.168.x.x\vmbackup\server\dbbackup\master_backup_201004222300.bak' WITH NOFORMAT, NOINIT, NAME = N'master_backup_20100422230002', SKIP, REWIND, NOUNLOAD, STATS = 10 " failed with the following error: "Cannot open backup device '\\192.168.x.x\vmbackup\server\dbbackup\master_backup_201004222300.bak'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.). BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. I googled this error and tried adding permissions to the backup device for network service as recommended at experts exchange, no dice. Does anyone have any ideas?

  Hi Guys, I am getting an error as shown in the screenshot. This started happening after I updated my Mac OS X from 10.6.5 to 10.6.6. Problem is that Finder stops working 5 mins after the restart and all the other aplications including Xcode 3.2.5, iPhone simulator, safari,etc stops working. • Domain Password change causes Outlook saved POP passwords to fail

  I have a user that repeatedly has this issue. A 3 month password change is enforced on the domain, but when the user changes his, Office 2003 will re-ask for the POP account password, even though it has not changed. Entering the correct POP account password causes it to repeatedly fail. If you go and change the POP password and enter the new one, then it is fine. He's the only one with this issue, but also the only user with both an Exchange and POP account. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance :)

• Domain provider for all Country Code TLDs?

  I find it very disturbing to buy some domains from one domain provider than when I have to buy a Country Code TLD that is not supported, I have to buy from another domain provider, and thus ending up having multiple domain providers for all my domains. I have looked at Gandi and GoDaddy. They both lack some Country Code TLDs the other one has. Is there domain providers that has all (or almost all) Country Code TLDs? If not, how do you guys do to get all (or almost all) domains under in one place? Also, it would be good if someone could suggest some of the big players of domain providing besides Gandi and GoDaddy, cause I'm new to the international domain market (have only used a couple in Sweden).

• BSOD / Reboot Cycling (possibly after windows update?)

  Windows XP SP3 Hi Guys, My desktop PC rebooted during the night (presumably due to an automated Windows update) and was stuck on a file system check. I forced a reboot as it had been stuck for hours and now the system won't finish booting. It shows the Windows XP splash screen, briefly flickers what looks to be a BSOD, and then reboots. So far, I've tried: Booting into all variations of safe mode (just hangs) Setting BIOS settings to fail-safe defaults (still reboots) Choosing the start-up option to load last known good configuration (still reboots) Any suggestions on how to proceed here? I haven't installed any recent software or hardware so I don't think this is a result of any explicit change I've made. -M
