  • Linux Distributive With Global Menu and UbuntuOne For Netbook

    I like very much global menu in previous versions of Ubuntu. But Unity is too slow for my Eee PC. So now I am looking for some alternative Desktop Environments or Distributions where there is global menu available. But at the same time there should be UbuntuOne service working too, as I use it pretty often. Could you, please, suggest what should I try out? I also use keyboard shortcuts very much and so I guess they should be configurable, and try not to use touchpad at all. So big icons like in gnome-shell and Unity are not a good option.

  • Add entries to Nautilus' right-click menu (copy, move to arbitrary directories)

    Assume I want to copy a file from /home/foo/bar/baz to /opt/quuz/dir1/option3. When I try it with Nautilus, first I have to open the correct directory, copy the file, go to the other directory and paste it there. I was thinking of a better way and old KDE3 versions of Konqueror came to mind. It was possible to right-click on a file. The context menu had an option for copying, moving the file to some default directories. Furthermore you could select any directory under /. So for the above action one would right click on a file, select /opt first, a list of subdirectories will open, select /opt/quuz and so on. Using GNOME there are only two possible values (home and desktop). Is there any way to insert more directories to this context menu in GNOME? Can I copy somehow the behaviour of Konqueror?

  • Removing Menu Items from Window Tabs

    So you're working on your NetBeans Platform application and you notice that when you right-click on tabs in the predefined windows, e.g., the Projects window, you see a long list of popup menus. For whatever the reason is, you decide you don't want those popup menus. You right-click the application and go to the Branding dialog. There you uncheck the checkboxes that are unchecked below: As you can see above, you've removed three features, all of them related to closing the windows in your application. Therefore, "Close" and "Close Group" are now gone from the list of popup menus: But that's not enough. You also don't want the popup menus that relate to maximizing and minimizing the predefined windows, so you uncheck those checkboxes that relate to that: And, hey, now they're gone too: Next, you decide to remove the feature for floating, i.e., undocking the windows from the main window: And now they're gone too: However, even when you uncheck all the remaining checkboxes, as shown here... You're still left with those last few pesky popup menu items that just will not go away no matter what you do: The reason for the above? Those actions are hardcoded into the action list, which is a bug. Until it is fixed, here's a handy workaround: Set an implementation dependency on "Core - Windows" (core.window). That is, set a dependency and then specify that it is an implementation dependency, i.e., that you'll be using an internal class, not one of the official APIs. In one of your existing modules, or in a new one, make sure you have (in addition to the above) a dependency on Lookup API and Window System API.   • Android WebView seems to ignore "viewport" information on web pages

    I have a website that is using the viewport META tag to tell mobile browsers how to display content ( ). Viewing the page in the Android browser looks correct (and iPhone, etc). When I load the page into a WebView component in an android Application, the WebView ignores the "VIEWPORT" tag, and renders the page at "full" resolution, which is zoomed-in in this case.

  • Does Unity support disabling the global application menu?

    I'm fairly excited for Unity, as it looks like a promising new direction for Ubuntu. However, I do have a concern - will it be possible to use Unity without the global menu? I have my window manager set to focus-follows-mouse/sloppy focus, and find the productivity gains to be immense. Sloppy focus is incompatible, however, with global menus, as it is possible for the focus to change while you move from window to menu. Will Unity support an option to use window menus while still using Unity?

  • No lock screen when the right click menu is open

    I just found that the lock screen on my laptop does not show up when the right click menu is open. I discovered this when I pressed the right click button accidentally while closing the lid and the laptop went to sleep, but the lock screen never showed up when I opened the lid again. I am also not able to lock the system manually(with ctrl+alt+L) when the right click menu is open. Is this by design or is it a bug? I would assume that the screen should be locked automatically when the computer goes to sleep, but this doesn't seem to be the case. Anyone have any suggestions? My specs are: Dell Vostro 1500, Ubuntu 12.10

    I am working on a native CouchdDB app with android. Now just this week CouchOne released libcouch, described as "Library files needed to interact with CouchDB on Android": couchone_libcouch@Github It is a basic app that installs CouchDB if the CouchDB service (that comes with CouchDB if it was installed previously) can't be bound to. To be more precise, as I understand it: libcouch estimates CouchDb's presence on the device by trying to bind to a IPC Service from CouchDB and through that service wants communicate with CouchDB. It always attempts to install CouchDB from the market. This is because it never actually is able to bind to the CouchDBService. As I understand the purpose auf AIDL generated service interfaces, the actual service that intends to offer it's IPC to other applications should make use of AIDL. In this case the AIDL has been moved to the application that is trying to bind to the remote service, which is libcouch in this case. Reviewing the commits the AIDL files have just been moved out of that repository to libcouch. For complete linkage, here's the link to the Android CouchDB sources: github.com/couchone/libcouch-android Now, I could be completely wrong in my findings, it could also be lincouch's Manifest that s missing something, but I am really looking forward to get some answers!

    i decompiled an Android .apk file using dex2jar, grabbed the java source files using jd-gui "File Save All Sources" and got a .zip file and the java files within. I did exactly the steps in this "guide": http://a4apphack.com/security/sec-code/extract-android-apk-from-market-and-decompile-it-to-java-source. Then i made some changes in a couple of the java files, now i am wondering how i can recreate an apk file. Decompiling with apktool, backsmali and smali tools work with .smali files, but now i have .java files...

  • Strange menu issue

    Just started out with Orchard and trying to just make pages and menus. I'm running into an issue where on my home page my menu shows: Home, Fruit, Vegetable, Carrot. I want it to show just Home, Fruit, Vegetable and when I click the respective item it adds the proper tabs. It DOES do it with Banana. ie: When I click Fruit, it shows Banana in the menu. But it always shows Carrot for some reason! I have the following setup. Navigation -Main Menu --Home --Fruit --Vegetable -Fruit Menu --Banana -Vegetable Menu --Carrot Widgits > Navigation > Main Menu, Fruit Menu, Vegetable Menu (Fruit and Vegetable Menus are in their own respective layers.) Path Examples: /Fruit, /Fruit/Banana, /Vegetable, /Vegetable/Carrot Thanks in advance.

If so - what kind of "Stream" reader should I use? I have also read something about "intents" - is this something that is applicable here?
