• Get the size of a Silverlight window

  Hey! I'm creating a Silverlight 4 Out Of Browser application. I have my MainPage that will be the "central" application. I want to be able to display another Control next to the MainPage, by using a Popup and I want it to be displayed right next to the MainPage. How can I get the coordinates of the upper right corner of the MainPage at each moment? (Beware that this MainPage can be moved all over the screen and hence I will need to dynamically get the corner coordinates, in order to display my popup right next to the main window). Any thoughts on this? Thank you!! PS: the code is in C# :-)

• Dynamic Column lookup with different pages in excel

  I have a multi page spread sheet in excel that needs to read information dynamically from columns on other pages and have these values show up on a main page. This is the formula I'm using: =IF(VLOOKUP($B:$B,'CP01'!$B:$BN,3,FALSE)="r","r", IF(VLOOKUP($B:$B,'CP01'!$B:$BN,3,FALSE)="a","a","")) CP01 is a sheet in the excel file and instead of look at the specific sheet I want it to look at all of the sheets in the file. Is there a way to do this as an excel formula or with excel-VBA? Edit: I also tried CP* (* being a wildcard character) and it didn't work. Edit2: Is there a way to match the value where the 'CP' is placed with its a other columns value?

• FindControl() method throws ArithmeticException?

  I have a line of C# in my ASP.NET code behind that looks like this: DropDownList ddlStates = (DropDownList)fvAccountSummary.FindControl("ddlStates"); The DropDownList control is explicitly declared in the markup on the page, not dynamically created. It is inside of a FormView control. When my code hits this line, I am getting an ArithmeticException with the message "Value was either too large or too small for an Int32." This code has worked previously, and is in production right now. I fired up VS2008 to make some changes to the site, but before I changed anything, I got this exception from the page. Anyone seen this one before?

• LoadViewState not fired on my user control

  I have a user control nested in a repeater. Inside my user control I have another repeater and in that I have a panel. I am trying to override the LoadViewState event of my user control and dynamically add controls to the panel. I want to do it in the LoadViewState so that the dynamic controls get added before the viewstate gets loaded, so they retain their values after post backs. For some reason the LoadViewState event on the user control (ascx) is not firing. Is there some way to force it to fire, or is there another method I could use? I have ruled out the user controls repeater databind event, because I need it to work even if data binding isn't happening and I can't do it on the repeaters item created event either because the child panel and inner html doesn't exist yet.

• Can .NET AppDomains do this?

  I've spent hours reading up about AppDomains, but I'm not sure they work quite like I'm hoping. If I have two classes, Foo in AppDomain #1, Bar in AppDomain #2: App Domain #1 is the application. App Domain #2 is something like a plugin, and can be loaded and unloaded dynamically. AppDomain #2 wants to create Foo and use it. Foo uses lots of classes in AppDomain #1 internally. I don't want AppDomain #2 using object foo with reflection, I want it to use Foo foo, with all the static typing and compiled speed that goes with it. Can this be done considering that AppDomain #1, containing Foo, is never unloaded? If so, does any remoting take place here when using Foo? When I unload AppDomain #2, the type Foo is destroyed?

• IE7 jQuery(document).ready() problem

  I have a page that works perfectly fine in Firefox, but is throwing an error in IE. I am loading jQuery dynamically (if it is not already loaded), and then doing some stuff in the jQuery(document).ready() block. However, IE throws the dreaded "Object expected" error when it hits the jQuery(document).ready() block. You can view the full page code here: http://www.pastie.org/977767 IE is throwing the error right at jQuery(document).ready(). Any ideas as to what is going here? Again, this works perfectly fine in Firefox. It seems almost like IE thinks jQuery is loaded but it really isn't yet or that jQuery is still loading when the jQuery(document).ready() block is encountered?

• How to create url preview in javascript?

  Can someone help me with creation of a url preview script in javascript? What I mean is this. Say I have a link on my site, I want the user to be able to mouse over the link, and have an image pop up that shows what the target of the link looks like. Don't worry about the css, I got that working, I just need the actual script to show the image. Currently I am doing it by showing up an iframe that actually renders the page, but this is not scalable and looks ugly. No, having the page display premade images is not an option, since the links will be linking to dynamically generated user content. thanks

• Convert arbitrary length to a value between -1.0 a 1.0?

  How can I convert a length into a value in the range -1.0 to 1.0? Example: my stage is 440px in length and accepts mouse events. I would like to click in the middle of the stage, and rather than an output of X = 220, I'd like it to be X = 0. Similarly, I'd like the real X = 0 to become X = -1.0 and the real X = 440 to become X = 1.0. I don't have access to the stage, so i can't simply center-register it, which would make this process a lot easier. Also, it's not possible to dynamically change the actual size of my stage, so I'm looking for a formula that will translate the mouse's real X coordinate of the stage to evenly fit within a range from -1 to 1.

  SQL Server 2008 R2 Here is a simplified example: EXECUTE sp_executesql N'PRINT ''1st '' + convert(varchar, getdate(), 126) WAITFOR DELAY ''000:00:10''' EXECUTE sp_executesql N'PRINT ''2nd '' + convert(varchar, getdate(), 126)' The first statement will print the date and delay 10 seconds before proceeding. The second statement should print immediately. The way T-SQL works, the 2nd statement won't be evaluated until the first completes. If I copy and paste it to a new query window, it will execute immediately. The issue is that I have other, more complex things going on, with variables that need to be passed to both procedures. What I am trying to do is: Get a record Lock it for a period of time while it is locked, execute some other statements against this record and the table itself Perhaps there is a way to dynamically create a couple of jobs? Anyway, I am looking for a simple way to do this without having to manually PRINT statements and copy/paste to another session. Is there a way to EXEC without wait / in parallel?

  I am trying to be able to allow users to generate content dynamically, and have that information be in a , and then allow that specific to be exportable to a pdf. I have got Joomla up and running (with the appropriate mySQL and ANT) locally with the Web2PDF extension, but how would I get those running on my domain (hosted by Dreamhost). Are there any other approaches you might recommend. The content is generated by JS and JQuery, and formatted with CSS and HTML. Other considerations: Web2PDF generates a PDF on the entire content, (pulling the entire page's HTML, not just the specific <div>.

• Failed to load viewstate...

  Yes, it's the infamous viewstate again! Now I am aware that problems can ocurr if you load controls in the wrong order or if the viewstate IDs are incorrect after postbacks etc etc. But my issue is that I am not really creating any controls dynamically - I only have one user control on the page. More importantly, the issue seems to be occuring with just one user. What could be the problem? Corrupt browser cache? Any help appreciated. thanks, KS

  Hi, I'm trying to evaluate an xpath varable I'm building dynamically based on the position of the node. I can create the xpath string in a variable but when I select the value of this just get the string and not the node set I need. I use the following to create the xpath <xsl:variable name="xpathstring" select="normalize-space(concat(&quot;//anAttribute[@key='pos&quot;,position(),&quot;']&quot;))"/> and try to output the value with the following. <xsl:value-of select="$xpathstring"/> If I execute the xpath in my debugger I get the nodeset but in my xml output only get the xpath string which looks like this //anAttribute[@key='pos1'] I had a look at exslt dyn:evaluate which seems to enable this but this seems to be only supported by certain processors and doesn't provide a standalone implementation or at least as far as I could see (currently using the standard .net 2.0 xslt whihc is only xslt 1.0 as far as I recall) Is there anyway to handle this without changing processor? The solution of using SelectMany is not good as I need this to be dynamically updated whenever FatherClass adds more Items and whenever its Items(SonClasses) add more Items. Now I could go on and write notifiaction events but I was wondering if there is a smarter way to do it -i.e. simply define the sources as the Items of each Item FatherClass posses

  I can do an eval("something()"); to execute the code dynamically in JavaScript. Is there a way for me to do the same thing in C#? What I am exactly trying to do is that I have an integer variable (say i) and I have multiple properties by the names: "Property1","Property2","Property3" etc. Now, I want to perform some operations on the " Propertyi " property depending on the value of i. • How to create custom CSS "on the fly" based on account settings in a Django site?

  So I'm writing a Django based website that allows users select a color scheme through an administration interface. I already have middleware/context processors that links the current request (based on domain) to the account. My question is how to dynamically serve the CSS with the account's custom color scheme. I see two options: Add a CSS block to the base template that overrides the styles w/variables passed in through a context processors. Use a custom URL (e.g. "/static/dynamic/css//styles.css") that gets routed to a view that grabs all the necessary values and creates the css file. I'm content with either option, but was wondering if anyone else out there has dealt with similar problems and could give some insight as to "Best Practices".

• Issue with Z-Index and IE7

  I've browsed on the board and tried and bunch of these solutions and I'm still stuck. The page I'm looking at is here. In IE7, the drop downs are showing up behind the homepage content. And if you go to one of the site sections, by clicking on "Menus", they even show up behind the dynamically created side-bar. I've given the drop down a z-index of 1000 and relative positioning. On the homepage, the images have relative positioning and a small z-index (1 or 2). Any ideas?

• Can I switch the Visual C++ runtime to another heap?

  My program uses a third party dynamic link library that has huge memory leaks inside. Both my program and the library are Visual C++ native code. Both link to the Visual C++ runtime dynamically. I'd like to force the library into another heap so that all allocations that are done through the Visual C++ runtime while the library code is running are done on that heap. I can call HeapCreate() and later HeapDestroy(). If I somehow ensure that all allocations are done in the new heap I don't care of the leaks anymore - they all go when I destroy the second heap. Is it possible to force the Visual C++ runtime to make all allocations on a specified heap?

  Using struts2 with jsp with standard struts tag libraries. I'm trying to dynamically hide a DIV on page load, but still send it to the browser. This is so I can show it later via javascript. The request objects one and two are not easily referenced via a jsp:usebean tag.   Suppose I have a report that lists employees (as rows) with their respective taxes charged (in columns). It is possible for a new tax to come up. Since my rdlc report file is currently designed (from XML of-course) to statically generate the coulumns. A future shift in events will need me to alter the rdlc file and add in a new column. how can i do this dynamically. I intend to avoid opening the rdlc file and adding XML code.

  I am using javascript map to store keys and values.Later on I check if specified key is present in map or not, but it sometimes gives correct result but sometimes it dont.I tried to print the map using console.log(mapname), it shows all keys, but i i try to check if some specified key is presnt sometimes it gives wrong answer.   On Learn C++, they wrote this to free memory: int *pnValue = new int; // dynamically allocate an integer *pnValue = 7; // assign 7 to this integer delete pnValue; pnValue = 0; My question is: "Is the last statement needed to free the memory correctly, completly?" I thought that the pointer *pnValue was still on the stack and new doesn't make any sense to the pointer. And if it is on the stack it will be cleaned up when the application leaves the scope (where the pointer is declared in), isn't it?

• Drop down selection not registered when form submitted quickly?!

  Hello all, I have noticed a strange thing that happens on my web app when the server is under heavy loads (I am remoting on to the Windows Server). I have a drop down box which is generated dynamically (server side). When I make a selection and quickly press the submit button to indicate my selection the next page does not register my selection but if I do it a bit more slowly it will. I have not come across this before, has anyone? I know its a small issue but there are a lot of "trigger happy", including me... should I put a delay before the form is submitted? If I do, I can only guess the right amount of time. Or is there an underlying problem with my web app? Thanks all

• Can you use Javascript to detect a file download window created server side?

  I have a jQuery plugin I use to dynamically create and render a form on a default.aspx asp.net page, then submit it. The page it gets submitted to is a pdf.aspx page. The page builds a PDF then uses Response.Write to write the file (application/pdf) to the browser. I use the same method to render XLSX files to the browser as well. It works really great, but I need a callback or some event to tell the button when to stop spinning. This prevents the user from continuously clicking the Excel or PDF buttons. Does anyone know a way to detect the file dialog window when it was not created using javascript? I am also open to other methods of callback from the server side as well.
