  Hi, I have a SQL database holding a number of numeric and text values that get updated regularly. The exact number/type/names of these data points can change depending on the source of the database writes. I would like to create a user interface editor, where the user can add database points to the UI and arrange them and format them as they want. If a new point is added to the database they can right click on the UI and say "add this point" and choose from a list of database points. I'm looking for some pointers on where to start on creating this editor application, could something clever be done using XAML to dynamically create std WPF controls at runtime? • jQuery .html() vs .text() produce different result in .hover() function

  I have a issue where in I am using the .hover() function. If I use .text() fuction to add the html (anchor tag) which I am dynamically creating, it works fine, both the functions are called as desired. • How To Securly Store Data In MySQL Using AES_ENCRYPT

  We are storing sensitive data in MySQL, and I want to use AES_ENCRYPT(data, 'my-secret-key-here') which works great. My biggest question is how do I secure the key? Previously I just wast storing the key in a web PHP file, so something like: define("ENCRYPTION_KEY", 'my-secret-key-here'); This really doesn't work though, as our MySQL server and web server are the same physical machine, so if somebody gains access to the server, they can get both the encrypted data stored in MySQL and the key. Any ideas? I am thinking I need to move the key to a separate server, and read it in remotely. Or, what about generating the encryption key dynamically for each piece of data. For example taking the customer_id and running md5 on it, and then using that as the key.

I have been doing this so far for each table, but with more than 70 of these it becomes cumbersome and boring to do. Is there a way to generate the following code dynamically, And swap out the hardcoded tablenames with the values from the parameterlist? • Can I insert a style tag and contents from a view with CakePHP?

  From what I can see, CakePHP makes it easy to link to a CSS file in a view with the following: echo $html->css('my-css-filename',null,array(),FALSE); But what if I don't want to exclusively use hardcoded files? How can I get it to create a style tag with some dynamically generated rules in e.g. <style type="text/css" media="all">p {font-size:1.5em}</style> I am trying to do this in a view file, I'd like the CSS to be placed in the head tag, and I'm using CakePHP 1.2.7

• Downloading image from server without file extension (NSData to UIImage)

  From my server I'm pulling down a url that is supposed to simply be a profile image. The relevant code for pulling down the image from the urls is this: NSString *urlString = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%@",kBaseURL,profile_image_url]; profilePic = [UIImage imageWithData:[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:urlString]]]; My url is in the format (note no file extension on the end since its dynamically rendered) localhost:8000/people/1/profile_image If I load the url in my browser the image displays; however the code above for pulling down the UIImage does not work. I've verified that the code does pull an image from a random site on the interwebs. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

  I need some code to monitor the start and exit of processes. For example, assume I have a config file with 3 processe names, lets say, foo.exe, bar.exe and abc.exe. How I imagine this be done would be to create 3 threads and somehow listen to each process individually with a timer in each thread, and then do something afterwards. However, I would need to dynamically create threads and timers, as the config file is meant to be modifiable. I can work with VB.NET or C# Code. Thanks.

  For reasons unknown my app shuts down upon pressing a UIButton in the simulator. I have dynamically added my UIView, if that is of relevance. No tracelog or debug information just a rush exit... • Windows Phone 7 Control Caching - 'Element is already the child of another element'

  I'm trying to speed up my windows phone 7 page load times. I have a 'static' page that has a dynamically created in a Panorama control - static meaning that the content never changes. On the first load I look at my config file, create the individual PanoramaItem controls and add them to the main Panorama control. I'm trying to keep a List in a static place so that the initial creation would only happen once and I could just add a fully rendered version to my Panorama control when the page was rendered. Works fine on first load, but when I try to add the cached PanoramaItems to the Panorama control I get the message "Element is already the child of another element". This makes sense since I already added before. But I can see a way to disconnect the PanoramaItems with the first Panorama control... I could be going about the control caching thing all wrong as well... Let me know if there's another way to do this.

• C# chart control Performance with large amounts of data

  I am using a chart control with a range bar graph to basically make a gantt chart for lots of people and lots of projects, say about 1000 total series. The issue that I am running in to is that once I have all my data added to the chart, which takes some time but that is to be expected, and I go to scroll down on my graph it freezes the whole application and takes a while before it unfreezes and scrolls down. Is there any way to improve the performance of this? I tried adding the graph to a panel and growing the graph size dynamically and then scrolling down from the panel but that cause a whole plethora of other issues. Any tips for speeding this up? I don't think it is my code as it has already finished running when this issue happens. Thanks.

  I have a menu with submenus that can be toggled (hide/show type deal). Is there a relatively easy way to remember last state of the menu? (I hide/show submenu when clicking on a header and change a style of the header so the background arrow will change (up/down)). It works fine, but I'd like it to remember last state, so when user goes to another page on the site and gets back, the menu shows the same way as user left it. I'm not really good with cookies so any help will be appreciated. Yeah, menu is generated dynamically from the db using PHP. There are now only 2 headers with submenus, but there will be more so I'd need some method that's "scalable" for any number of submenus.   I'm building a database class and thought it'd be a good idea to incorporate some form of SQL injection prevention (duh!). Here's the method that runs a database query: class DB { var $db_host = 'localhost'; var $db_user = 'root'; var $db_passwd = ''; var $db_name = 'whatever'; function query($sql) { $this->result = mysql_query($sql, $this->link); if(!$this->result) { $this->error(mysql_error()); } else { return $this->result; } } } There's more in the class than that but I'm cutting it down just for this. The problem I'm facing is if I just use mysql_real_escape_string($sql, $this->link); then it escapes the entire query and leads to a SQL syntax error. How can I dynamically find the variables that need to be escaped? I want to avoid using mysql_real_escape_string() in my main code blocks, i'd rather have it in a function. Thanks.

• Setting a form field's valule during validation

  Hi, I read about this issue already, but I'm having trouble understanding why I can't change the value of a form's field during validation. I have a form where a user can enter a decimal value. This value has to be higher than the initial value of the item the user is changing. During clean(), the value that was entered is checked against the item's previous value. I would like to be able to re-set the form field's value to the item's initial value when a user enters a lower value. Is this possible from within the clean() method, or am I forced to do this in the view? Somehow, it doesn't feel right to do this in the view... (To make matters more complicated, the form's fields are built up dynamically, meaning I have to override the form's clean() method instead of using the clean_() method). Thanks in advance!

• Output Caching - why doesn't it seem to do the job?

  Hi, I have quite a big user control which creates an ASP.NET tab menu and within each tab a lengthy set of icons/menus. The menu is dynamically created from the database. I thought I could wrap the user control with an output cache directive to speed things up. I set OutputCache varybyparam="none" and duration to 120 seconds. When I navigate to my page, the usercontrol containing the tab menus and icons etc just vanishes? I thought ASP.NET was supposed to deliver some HTML that would previously have been cached. So why isn't this working? It doesn't seem to do what the label says on the tin?!? ;)

• How should I set up UITableViewCell subclasses with UIControls in them?

  I have a dynamically generated UITableView (so I have to use prototype cells, not static cells) with many cells on it. Each cell will have a UILabel on it. Additionally, each cell will also have at least one UIControl (as of right now, it could be a UITextfield or a UISegmentedControl, but I want to keep it flexible in case I add something else in the future). I'm going to need to be able to send the text in that label, and get either the text in the textfield, or the title of the selected segment index, etc. For the cells with multiple controls, I'm going to have to also let it know what control I'm interested in for that call. What would be the best way to set this up?

• jquery ui - making dialogs more "dynamic" ?

  Hello, I have a page that uses multiple dialogs for different things. Some dialogs may have buttons that others do not while other may need to be a different height than another... All of them have a set of params that will not change. My question, can I have a default like: $('.someElement').dialog({ width: 999, show: 'slide', hide: 'slide', ETC: 'some other option' }); and use it for all of my dialogs, then pass buttons or height to it dynamically when I open a dialog? It just seems wrong to have something like the above for every dialog I need... Thanks!

• How to break up a table holding 100mil+ number of records?

  We're currently storing answers for 52 predefined questions for our clients in our matchmaking site. we have over 30million unique users summing up for worst case of a 52x30million rows. Of these 52 questions, 11 are required and always answered. Our previous solution was to open an answer table for each question. This solution distributed our answer rows for faster insert/delete/update. But it also caused us an unconventional programming such as dynamically opening a table each time a question is added/updated, or removing an answer table if it was to be destroyed permanently. We want to come up with a better solution for our third version but could't get very far yet. Any ideas to accomplish this in any other, perhaps a more conventional, way?
