  I notice that both of these compile without any compiler warnings or errors, even with Option Strict and Option Explicit both turned on: Dim x As Exception = New Exception("this is a test") Dim y = New Exception("this is another test") My question is, is it more proper to use the first way (see variable x) or the second way (see variable y)? My guess is that VB doesn't need the As clause since the variable is being initialized in place, so the compiler can infer the type. I tend to like the first way as it just "feels" right and is more consistent with other languages like C#, just wondered if there was some good reason for one way over the other. I guess it's really personal choice.

  Hi all I'm using JBPM 4.3 and trying hard to find a way to terminate one processInstance. First I simply used something like: executionService.endProcessInstance(processInstanceID, "active"); However I got exception thrown out. "exception while executing command org.jbpm.pvm.internal.cmd.EndProcessInstance java.lang.NullPointerException" Then I googled to find this post http://community.jboss.org/thread/146478, which didn't seem to give a resolution. I tried nevertheless to end all executions of the processInstance by calling ((ExecutionImpl) execution).end(); But the same exception was thrown again when I finally try to call executionService.endProcessInstance(processInstanceID, "active"); Did anyone have the same experience and solution?

But when i press the browser back button and come back to my page A and again try to sort... page A throws an exception... is there a way to program this back button like we program a button normally.. • Avoiding exceptions when uploading files in laravel

  I've got a file upload field (attachment1) in a form that may or may not have a file uploaded in it when I process the form in laravel. When I'm trying to process the page, this line generates an exception: Input::upload('attachment1',path('storage').'attachments/'.$name); Here is the text of the exception: Message: Call to a member function move() on a non-object it seems that I need to check in advance to see if 'attachment1' has a file, and I found that the function Input::has_file('attachment1') is supposed to tell me whether or not 'attachment1' has a file, but even when I submit an empty form, it returns true. Also, from reading documentation, it seems that Input::upload is supposed to just return false when trying to upload a non-existant file, so why does it produce this exception instead, and how can I fix it?

• Using an EJB inside a JAX-RS resource class in RestEasy?

  I would like to have the following kind of resource class work when deployed under RestEasy in JBoss 6: @Path("Something") public class Foo { @EJB private SomeService service @GET public Object frobnicate() { assert service != null; // JBoss blows up here return result; } } Two questions: It is a limitation of RestEasy, not of the Java EE specification, right, that RestEasy can't inject anything annotated with @EJB? What have people done to work around this limitation? My developers are about to surge forward with hard-coded JNDI lookups (e.g. context.lookup(someHardCodedNameHere)) because no one can find a workaround to this specification violation at the present time. I really want to avoid this. Lastly, I've looked at using CDI, but the story here isn't much better as RestEasy and CDI still aren't talking to each other. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

  I am relatively new to multi-threading and want to execute a background task using a Swingworker thread - the method that is called does not actually return anything but I would like to be notified when it has completed. • Operation timeout thrown using WebDav

  I build a desktop application in C# to send an email notification to a set of subscribed users. I am using Webdav to implement this function and using OWA (Outlook web access) and everything works fine till the 33 mail then 'Operation Timeout' exception is thrown. I can rerun my application to send emails to the remaining users but again after some emails again exception occurrs. Of course i could like to perform this operation in one run. I've tried adding some timeout value to my HttpWebRequest object and also put some Thread.Spleep value after sending each mail so that each http web request doesn't interfere with the following request. But now i am stuck with this timeout exception and no idea how to handle it. One idea would be that my logged in session in owa expired but i am loggin in each time a send a new email. Please can you provide me some help if you experienced with Web dav.

  Previously within my Fitnesse fixture I was specifying an expected WCF exception using: exception[FaultException] Since then I have converted the WCF service to return a strongly typed FaultContract. I am now getting the following failure message: exception[FaultException`1: "A file with the name DMS Documents/testFileWord.doc already exists. It was last modified by SHAREPOINT\system on 09 Mar 2010 15:36:14 -0000."] This is not unexpected but how do I check for strongly typed fault exceptions? Please note I cannot include the fault message as part of the check as it contains a date which changes (I check this separately).

• Invoke Haskell function with heterogeneous arguments?

  I'm currently working on a Haskell project which automatically tests some functions based on an XML specification. The XML specification gives the arguments to each function and the expected result that the function will provide (the arguments are of many different types). I know how to extract the function arguments from the XML and parse them using the read function, but I haven't figured out how to invoke the function using the arguments I get out. What I basically want is to read and store the arguments in a heterogeneous list (my current thinking is to use a list of type Data.Dynamic) and then invoke the function, passing this heterogeneous list as its argument list. Is this possible? Modifying the functions under test is not an option.

• Eclipse RCP Application Fails to launch second time

  I have an Eclipse RCP application that will launch properly after a clean install (right after build). The issue is that if I try to launch the application a second time the application throws an exception. I have narrowed the issue down to this file being created after the first run: ~install_dir/configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/.state Has anyone run into a similar issue where the .state file prevents the application from being launched anytime after that first run? I'm hesitant to look at the exception as this does not happen the first time, so I suspect org.eclipse.osgi is more to blame. The details of the exception are: "Error creating bean with name 'luceneRawQueryComposer' defined in class path resource [spring/dataaccess/daoCMClient.xml]: Cannot resolve reference to bean 'indexUtility' while setting bean property 'indexUtility'; NoSuchBeanDefinitionException

  Few of our clients are regularly getting invalid cast exception, with variations i.e. InvalidCastException / ProviderException, but both generating from method call: System.Web.Security.SqlRoleProvider.GetRolesForUser(String username) The other variation is: Exception type: InvalidCastException Exception message: Unable to cast object of type System.Int32 to type System.String. • How do I combine MVCContrib's "Rescue" with Elmah?

  I got the Rescue attribute working. It properly serves up the DefaultError view when there is an unhandled exception. However, these exceptions will not get logged or emailed. This SO question is answered by Atif Aziz and it looks pretty solid, but it applies to the built-in HandleErrorAttribute, which Rescue replaces, right? How do I get that to work with Rescue? I want to make sure that if an unhandled exception arises, that the user gets served up the view specified with the Rescue attribute, but the exception is still properly logged, and viewable with elmah.axd.

I need to know how to go about testing this with Rhino Mocks e.g. how to instantiate a new ControlMediaElementAction in test code and then call the Invoke method etc. Doing something simple like this in test code: mMediaElementControlBehaviour = new ControlMediaElementAction (); gives me an exception "The type initializer for 'System.Windows.DependencyObject' throw an exception. Thinking it was the instantiation of the MediaElement, I tried this two lines of code: MediaElement mediaElementStub = MockRepository.GenerateStub(); this.Container.RegisterInstance(mediaElementStub); This gave the exception 'Can't create mocks of sealed classes' If someone can point me in the right direction, it would be apreciated. • Catching Oracle Errors in Django

  My Django app runs on an Oracle database. A few times a year, the database is unavailable because of a scheduled process or unplanned downtime. However, I can't see how to catch the error a give a useful message back to the requester. Instead, a 500 error is triggered, and I get an email (or hundreds) showing the exception. One example is: File "/opt/UDO/env/events/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/backends/oracle/base.py", line 447, in _cursor self.connection = Database.connect(conn_string, **conn_params) DatabaseError: ORA-01035: ORACLE only available to users with RESTRICTED SESSION privilege I see a similar error with a different ORA number when the DB is down. Because the exception is thrown deep within the Django libraries, and can be triggered by any of my views or the built in admin views, I don't know where any exception trapping code would go. Any suggestions?

But this is not happening right now. Only "/fullSignup" is working fine.

• Custom login in Django

  Django newbie here. I wrote simplified login form which takes email and password. It works great if both email and password are supplied, but if either is missing i get KeyError exception. According to django documentation this should never happen: By default, each Field class assumes the value is required, so if you pass an empty value -- either None or the empty string ("") -- then clean() will raise a ValidationError exception I tried to write my own validators for fields (clean_email and clean_password), but it doesn't work (ie I get KeyError exception).   I have been banging my head with this one more the two weeks, and still don't know what the problem is ( I can't narrow it down). The problem is the following. I have a solution with 3 project in it all written in c# and I with LINQ. One project is the main web site, the other is the data layer (communication with the database) and the third one is a custom little CMS. The problem is the following: On a hosting provider when I publish the site it all works perfectly, but this site was needed to be hosted on the client server so I needed to do that. But the problem is that I also needed to configure the client server, because they don't have an Administrator employed (I know, I know ;) ). For the first time I some how managed, to set it up but a problem appear. My main web site is working just as it suppose to be - it reads (communicates with) the database, but My CMS is not. It shows the first log in page, but after that when I try to log in it throws the following error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. So far I have tried the following: -setting time out on connection string to a higher value -configuration and after that turning off server firewall -checking the connection string over and over again (they are the same for all three projects and are saved in web.config) Important notes: I have tried executing the project from VS2008 with a connection string to the same database and the results are the same. That's why I think the problem is the SQL Server 2005 and not the IIS7. Any bit of information is more then welcomed.
