• What is a convenient base for a bignum library & primality testing algorithm?

  Hi, I am to program the Solovay-Strassen primality test presented in the original paper on RSA. Additionally I will need to write a small bignum library, and so when searching for a convenient representation for bignum I came across this [specification][1]: struct { int sign; int size; int *tab; } bignum; I will also be writing a multiplication routine using the Karatsuba method. So, for my question: What base would be convenient to store integer data in the bignum struct? Note: I am not allowed to use third party or built-in implementations for bignum such as GMP. • PostgreSQL 8.3 data types: xml vs varchar

  There's xml data type in Postgres, I never used it before so I'd like to hear opinions. Downsides and upsides vs using regular varchar (or Text) column to store xml. The text I'm going to store is xml, well-formed, UTF-8. No need to search by it (I've read searching by xml is slow). This XML actually is data prepared for PDF generation with Apache FOP. XML can be generated dynamically from data found elsewhere (other Postgres tables), it's stored as is only so that I won't need to generate it twice. Kinda backup#2 for already generated PDF documents. Anything else to know? Good practices, performance, maintenance, etc?

• Will pool the connection help threading in sqlite (and how)?

  I currently use a singleton to acces my database (see related question) but now when try to add some background processing everything fall apart. I read the sqlite docs and found that sqlite could work thread-safe, but each thread must have their own db connection. I try using egodatabase that promise a sqlite wrapper with thread safety but is very buggy, so I return to my old FMDB library I start to see how use it in multi-thread way. Because I have all code with the idea of singleton, change everything will be expensive (and a lot of open/close connections could become slow), so I wonder if, as the sqlite docs hint, build a pooling for each connection will help. If is the case, how make it? How know wich connection get from the pool (because 2 threads can't share the connection)? I wonder if somebody already use sqlite in multu-threading with NSOperation or similar stuff, my searching only return "yeah, its possible" but let the details to my imagination...

• How can I allow anonymous access to OTRS FAQ area?

  I have been searching for this for quite some time now. I am using OTRS 2.4.7 and installed the FAQ package version 1.6.5. Everything seems to work fine. When I am logged in, I can create articles and other users have the ability to browse the articles. I want to be able to allow access to any anonymous non-user to be able to read these articles. Can anyone shed some light on how to allow this type of access? Thanks

• graphviz segmentation fault

I wrote a simple python program to do the trick with graphviz, but it gives me segmentation fault and I don't know why, if the graph is too big or if i'm missing something. • jQuery without domready

  Searching for a way to add this code, after the <head> (or some <link stylesheet>) and before <body> is generated (created). $('body').append('<style type="text/css">\ // some // multiline // styles </style>'); There is no <body> without domready(), so its seems better to use head instead or something else. Append also can be replaced. Anybody knows how to do that? Thanks.

  What causes "java.lang.IncompatibleClassChangeError: vtable stub"? In our application, we have seen this error pop up randomly and very seldom (just twice so far, and we run it a lot). It is not readily reproducible, even when restarting the app, using the same jvm/jars without rebuilding. As for our build process, we clean all classes/jars and rebuild them, so it's not the same problem as others have encountered where they made a change in one class and didn't recompile some other dependent classes. This is unlike some of the other questions related to IncompatibleClassChangeError -- none of them mention "vtable stub". In fact, there are surprisingly few google results when searching for "IncompatibleClassChangeError "vtable stub"".

  I've tried searching but couldn't come up with a defined way on how to add your own packages to a GWT project. My tree structure looks like this: -com.mycompany -public MyApplication.html MyApplication.gwt.xml -com.mycompany.client MyApp.java -com.mycompany.gui TableLayout.java The answer I've seen out there says to add the packages relative to the root directory of the gwt.xml file, like so: <module> <inherits name="com.google.gwt.user.User" /> <entry-point class="com.mycompany.client.MyApp" /> <source path="client" /> <source path="gui" /> </module> It then complains: Unable to find type 'com.technicon.client.MyApp' Hint: Previous compiler errors may have made this type unavailable Hint: Check the inheritance chain from your module; it may not be inheriting a required module or a module may not be adding its source path entries properly Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong and how to fix this?

• need help with installing shared libraries on linux

  Hi, I am new to linux and trying to get the Ajax Push engine server to work on Ubuntu 9.04. I installed the server from source it fails the check that it does by using its own javascript framework. The problem is that it fails to load the modules and the output that i get in the terminal when i start it is. [Module] Failed to load ../modules/lib/libmod_spidermonkey.so [Invalid library] (libmysac.so.0.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory) i thought i had to install mysac lib as a shared lib, so after some searching i copied the libmysac.so to /usr/local/lib/ and upon running ldconfig there it created the symlink. But still it gived the same error. Now I copied the libmod_spidermonkey.so in the shared lib dir. But this time ldconfig did not create any symlinks. I am really confused and looking for some pointers . Please help

• ReportViewer height issue. Hiding scrollbars.

  Hi, I'm using MSSQL 2005 Reporting Services and in this case I need to display some reports on an ASP.NET page using the ReportViewer control (I guess thats the only way, right?). The problem is that I can't get the property SizeToReportContent to work. When displaying the report, I get a vertical scrollbar because the report is too large. It looks like an iframe window. Searching on google it seems to be a bug. It can be fixed by setting AsyncRendering to false but I don't want that. I need another solution. I was wondering if it's possible to set the height on the report element using JavaScript after the report has been loaded? Or do you know of another solution? This is really annoying. • Compiled Linq Queries with Built-in SQL functions

  I have a query that I am executing in C# that is taking way too much time: string Query = "SELECT COUNT(HISTORYID) FROM HISTORY WHERE YEAR(CREATEDATE) = YEAR(GETDATE()) "; Query += "AND MONTH(CREATEDATE) = MONTH(GETDATE()) AND DAY(CREATEDATE) = DAY(GETDATE()) AND USERID = '" + EmployeeID + "' "; Query += "AND TYPE = '5'"; I then use SqlCommand Command = new SqlCommand(Query, Connection) and SqlDataReader Reader = Command.ExecuteReader() to read in the data. This is taking over a minute to execute from C#, but is much quicker in SSMS. I see from google searching you can do something with CompiledQuery, but I'm confused whether I can still use the built in SQL functions YEAR, MONTH, DAY, and GETDATE. If anyone can show me an example of how to create and call a compiled query using the built in functions, I will be very grateful! Thanks in advance.

• Using Spotlight as the "database" of an application

  I'm developing an OS X application to organize "things" (as iTunes is to music and iPhoto to photos). Instead of having my own database and index, I'm considering using Spotlight to essentially serve this purpose. Has anyone tried this? Is it wise? The main benefit, as I see it, would be simplicity and avoiding redundancy. It seems a bit wasteful to implement my own index machinery when OS X comes with one built in. I have little experience working with Spotlight, however. From a user's perspective, I do know that it has been slow and imprecise in older versions of OS X. I also have a gut-feeling that since it's aimed at searching the whole filesystem, using it for "local" purposes becomes hackish. Obviously, my applications's index needs to constantly be up-to-date. Can mdimport be used for this?

• Is it possible to have a global exception hook?

  Hi, my code is fairly well covered with exception handling (try..except). Some exceptions are not expected to happen and some exceptions happen fairly often, which is expected and ok. Now I want to add some automated tests for this code. It would be good to know how many exceptions happened during execution, so I can later see if the expected number was raised or anything unexpected happened. I don't want to clutter every exception handling block with debug code, so my question is: Is there a way to install some kind of global exception handler which sits right before all other exception handling blocks? I am searching for a central place to log these exceptions. Thanks for any suggestions! (And if this matters: it is Delphi 2009)

  Hello, I'm currently building a web application. In one of it's key processes the application need to match short phrases to other similar ones available in the DB. The application needs to be able to match the phrase: Looking for a second hand car in good shape To other phrases which basically have the same meaning but use different wording, such as: 2nd hand car in great condition needed or searching for a used car in optimal quality The phrases are length limited (say 250 chars), user generated & unstructured.   Hi all!I'll give an example of what I intend to do: I have 2 StackPanels one containing an Ellipse the other one containing nothing; I want to drag the Ellipse from one stack panel to the other . The actual drag & drop is already done and works fine. However I'd like to know how to keep that that Ellipse shape at the tip of my mouse cursor (I've been searching all day and couldn't find anything that helps ) Even an windows forms example would be nice , I'll be able to adapt it :). • VS2008 Complains about css class names it should know about

  I've seen this in a webcast somewhere, but I can't remember where, and all searching terms I'm trying are coming up unhelpful. I've got a stylesheet for my site, and it's referenced in a master page. Child pages that use this master page use these styles, but .Net doesn't know about them. When the site is run, it all works great, but I'm trying to figure out how to get .Net to know about them at design time. This should also fix the issue with not knowing about the javascript files I'm including, too -- I think it's all related and I can't for the life of me figure out how.

• Lightweight jQuery ColorPicker bound to input and with popup selector

  I've found two jQuery colorpickers that I'm considering using in my app. I have a simple input field that I'm asking users to supply a hex color to. I'd like to use jPicker's "Binded" example, however, the overall size of the jPicker is a bit more than I'd like to add to my app. So that sent me searching and I found a very nifty little compact picker called "Farbtastic", which does exactly what I want with one major exception: It appears to be an inline only solution (meaning, I can't call it in the same manner as jPicker's binded example. Can someone tell me how I might convert Farbtastic to mimic jPicker's binded example? More specifically, I'm looking to place a colorpicker widget (the small color frame icon as in the jPicker example) next to my input field so that it displays the currently selected color, and when clicked, it opens up the color palette widget.

• iPhone App Development - UITableView DetailsView

  Hi, I have a UITableView with a list of items such as item1, item2, item3, item4 and so on. If I select on item1, it will go to the detail view of item1 (which is controlled by DetailsViewController). What I am trying to do is to add a button called "Next" on DetailsView. When clicked, the DetailsView will refresh and show item2. When clicked again, it will show item3 and so on. I have been searching high and low for that to implement. But to no avail. • Overlay image/map on MapView?

  Okay, hope you can help med here :) I have been searching everywhere to figure this out, but haven't had any luck. I know about Annotations and how to overlay them on a map on the iPhone. But what if I have location like in the forest where there arent any roads or anything. What I am asking is, how can I overlay a custom image (map) over the Map view so that it zooms the right way like the map, in the right scale, and can I add my own annotations on top of the custom image/map? Hop I was clear enough on what I am trying to do?

• Packet Crafting on a Mac

  I think (based on searching the forums), that NetCat is the best option, but wanted to hear if others are preferable. Anyone have good success with a packet-crafting tool (specifically on Mac)? I've tried HPing, but had some issues. I'm looking into NetCat ('nc' on mac) now, but it's not working as I had thought. Basically, I captured some packets that a remote control sends over a wifi network to turn lights on and off (using X10 controllers), and am looking for a way to replay them by crafting a TCP packet from the command line. I used Wireshark to sniff the traffic, so I know the package is: DEVICE -sendplc-"C4 DIM 10" I'm trying: echo 'DEVICE -sendplc-"C4 DIM 10"' nc 192.168.2.196 6003 but there's no response from the receiving system. • Easy to use time-stamps in Python

  I'm working on a journal-type application in Python. The application basically permits the user write entries in the journal and adds a time-stamp for later querying the journal. As of now, I use the time.ctime() function to generate time-stamps that are visually friendly. The journal entries thus look like: Thu Jan 21 19:59:47 2010 Did something Thu Jan 21 20:01:07 2010 Did something else Now, I would like to be able to use these time-stamps to do some searching/querying. I need to be able to search, for example, for "2010", or "feb 2010", or "23 feb 2010". My questions are: 1) What time module(s) should I use: time vs datetime? 2) What would be an appropriate way of creating and using the time-stamp objects? Many thanks!

• Hudson build defaults

  This has been a fairly long-standing problem for us with our Hudson installation, and searching around the Hudson Wiki / Issue Tracker hasn't yielded any insight to this. The question: Is it possible to set certain default values for a maven2 build in Hudson? For example, we want all our projects to run the "clean" goal before a build, we want all our builds to poll the SCM hourly, and we want all our builds to deploy to our maven repository on build success. Right now, we have to manually set these setting for every project individually, which can be rather time consuming as we have 30+ different projects all being managed by Hudson. This is especially annoying if we need to change a particular setting that will affect all projects (e.g. change the repository URL). Given that I couldn't find any mention of this on the Wiki or Issue Tracker leads me to believe that I'm missing something obvious, but I cannot find an answer on my own.

  Hi, In my Grails app, I'm using the Searchable plugin for searching/indexing. I want to write a Compass/Lucene query that involves multiple domain classes. Within that query when I want to refer to the id of a class, I can't simply use 'id' because all classes have an 'id' property. Currently, I work around this problem by adding the following property to a class Foo public Long getFooId() { return id } static transients = ['fooId'] Then when I want to refer to the id of Foo within a query I use 'fooId'. Is there a way I can provide an alias for a property in the searchable mapping rather than adding a property to the class?
