• ubuntu cant be installed as it says GPU lock

  i have win 7 running on my system i just wanna move to ubuntu 12.10 desktop version 36 bit but when i try to install the CD gets loaded start screen comes but suddenly texts line appears and screen goes black the text are - [189.463934] [drm] [noveau] 0000:02:00.0: GPU LOCK- switching to software fbcon [194.248014] [drm] [noveau] 0000:02:00.0: failed to idle channel 1 [199.504009] [drm] [noveau] 0000:02:00.0: failed to idle channel 3 and it goes on.....like this iam new to the linux system so dnt know much abt it ..so if any body can help me to solve my prblm.. my laptop is of HCL and it has 3 gb ram or 350 gb hard disk with nvidia graphic card ..it has 2 ghz pentium dual core it was manufactured in 2009.. so if any body can help i would be greatful and can be able to join ubuntu..

• Ubuntu on Thinkpad Edge 11/13/14/15

  I think a community wiki on problems (and solutions) when installing Ubuntu (10.10) on a Thinkpad Edge 11 would be nice (because I just got one ;)). I'll contribute with my own problems and solutions, and hope others will join too. Thinkwiki entry for the Edge 11 Known problems: No wifi-driver, solution: answer #1, answer #2 Fan is loud, even though it's on auto. No solution. Thinkfan is a possible solution, but correction values for sensors should be supplied (mapping sensors to specific areas). Also, one sensor is between -100C and +100C - maybe some kind of deactivation would help. FN keys stop working: see below. No sound on headphones: see below.

• Forcing Nautilus to use Kerberos (Active Directory) authentication

  Is there a way to get Nautilus or any other file manager that runs on Ubuntu 11.04 to use Kerberos for authentication? I'm using Likewise Open to join machines to the domain, and I can't type in passwords for every user on every computer that needs to mount a network share. I've been able to get Kerberos working with the command line smbclient, but oddly Kerberos does not seem to be Nautilus-integrated. I also checked the SSH config file, and it looks like you can enable GSSAPIAuthentication, but it only works for Kerberos v2, not the current version, which I think is v5.

When you join two related tables in a Table Per Hierarchy inheritance things can get a little confusing when it comes to the mappings for inherited properties.   Hi, Some background first- I am new to programming and have discovered it rather late in life; Like many hobbyists, my introduction to the subject has been through php/jquery (yes, i know the popular mood around here... they-are-not-real-programminng-languages ;-) ). I like to believe that I am reasonably competent at what I do in my other life and this developing addiction to coding has taken a very heavy toll on my professional prospects. This is the question: What programming languages next? (No plans to ditch php in the immediate future, that will involve rewriting much of my code) Any absolutely essential books I must read? Is it necessary to join a college/university course? Do I need to ditch my other profession to continue serious learning? My goals are: Develop a solid understanding of the science and art of programming. Continue to work on my own web application (Hands on learning suits me best) I am something of a generalist interested in everything from UI to database performance
