• Change gui port(8080) utorrent

  I'm fresh on Ubuntu, still learning how to use it. Recently I've been trying to install utorrent, which I already was able to do so, but I need the port 8080 free to use run tomcat/glassfish and on port 80 php. Briefly, how can I change utorrent port from 8080 to another one? I've been trying to find a solution for this issue for about 3 days now, I saw some solutions, such as create a utserver.config, but I have no clue in how to use it or config it by terminal or on properties, that is something hardly explained by anyone. Any help will be appreciated :D.

• Can you run OpenGL 2.0 on modern machines?

  I'm looking to get into 3d with OpenGL, using SDL to help with other stuff. I found plenty of good tutorials (lazyfoo is a big one), but "Learning Modern 3d Graphics Programming" uses a newer version of openGL that I'm not able to run! I opened up OpenGL extensions viewer, and I can only run OpenGL 2.0, whereas most tutorials are in higher versions. I ask this because I've heard that just about everything in 2.* got depreciated in the newer versions, so I'm worried that my code might not work. I'm looking at a few other tutorials, but I'm so used to SDL that those just confuse me... So should I bother trying to do graphics programming now, or should I just wait until I can upgrade my computer?

After a long while of research, I've decided to jump into making Desktop Applications. But how should I go about doing this? • Do I need a Point and a Vector object? Or just using a Vector object to represent a Point is ok?

  Structuring the components of an engine that I am developing along with a friend (learning purposes), I came to this doubt. Initially we had a Point constructor, like the following: var Point = function( x, y ) { this.x = x; this.y = y; }; But them we started to add some Vector math to it, and them decided to rename it to Vector2d. But now, some methods are a bit confusing (at least in my opinion), such as the following, which is used to make a line: //before the renaming of Point to Vector2, the parameters were startingPoint and endingPoint Geometry.Line = function( startingVector, endingVector ) { //... }; I should make a specific constructor for the Point object, or there are no problems in defining a point as a vector? I know a vector have magnitude and direction, but I see so many people using a vector to just represent the position of an object.

• How do you stay motivated for hobby projects? [closed]

  I started seriously programming as a hobbiest, student and then intern about 4 years ago and I've always done small projects on the side as a learning exercise. Schools over now though, and I spend my days at work as a software developer. I would still love to do projects on the side to learn about areas in computer science that I'm not exposed to at work, but I've noticed that after 8 hours of starring at an IDE it's far to tempting to veg out. Any time I do get up the gumption to work on something for a few hours lately it's gotten left by the wayside. Anyone have any advice for sticking with side projects when you spend most of your day coding?

• C# WPF to Embedded programming transition

  I've been learning C# .NET Framework for around 4-6 months (still starting) using some books, and have currently made my way up to Collections and Generics. I'll probably spend the next two months covering the rest up to LINQ and/or Garbage Collections. The thing is, I started to get interested in embedded systems and found out that you can use C# to code it through .NET MF, which mean I wouldn't have to learn C or C++. So, I would like to know if the knowledge I'll have by that time (2 months) will be enough to start working on Embedded (using C# .NET Micro Framework and Netduino) or I should probably see more about plain C# like Multithreading, async and other advanced features ? I want use embedded just as a hobby, at least by now, as I'll still have a long way through university. Although, I'll probably pick it as a career then. Thanks in advance!

  I'm building a simple airline reservation system (web app) for a class. I'm trying to find out where to start learning about implementing and integrating a sql database. User's should be able to search for available flights based on destination and departure cities and the like. A good example would be Google Flights. I'd like to access a data base with all of the flight information and display it within tables on the web page. Admins should be able to modify the databases as well. I've tried to learn about things like Node.js, PHP, and AJAX, but most of the tutorials that I've found have been difficult to understand. Any suggestions would be really appreciated, thanks!

  To put it in a nutshell: which programming language would you advice to go at next after having mastered python? I do love python (after having done some rather simple scripting in Perl for a couple of years) for it's clearness and straightforwardness. Of course there is still room for improvement and topics I haven't touched yet. Still: I feel quite confident about my skills by now but want to keep learning.   I am building a new website for a friend of mine. Its all plain html, and a server side include. The problem is to build static pages for 500 products would not be fun to create, or maintain. So i am forced to at least put dynamic information on these pages based off a spreadsheet, or dynamic pages all together. What i want to do is have a spreadsheet that can be used to keep track of in stock quantity, sku numbers, ecc.. that way i dont have to update hundreds of pages every night. He can just edit the spreadsheet and the pages will automatically adjust. I am a busy man, and i am not asking anyone to just give me the answer. But to save some time what is more worth learning to get this done fastest. HTML5, PHP, JAVA asp, or is there somehthing else better suited?

  I'm making a Tetris Clone in C# with XNA, and I'm unsure of how to actually implement the blocks. I don't think that making the shapes as images will work (because parts are removed when lines are formed), so I Have blocks to make up the pieces like This. Unfortunately, I don't know how to actually define the blocks to make the pieces, nor do I know how to manipulate them to make them rotate, etc. Edit: I would also need assistance in learning how to make the Tetris Grid too.
