• How can I find files quicker than find or locate?

  I have been using find command to find files on my 1 tb hard disk. it takes very long. then I used locate which proved to be faster with regular update using updatedb. But the limitation of locate is that I cannot find files with certain size or modified/created time. can you suggest me any ideas on how to find files at more speed or in that case how to pipe output of locate command in a way that all other information like size, time, etc. can be displayed or redirected to a file.

• I removed nvidia driver and lshw -c video still shows nvidia

  Today I tried to activate the newer experimental drivers and both 304 and 310 failed to even install. So I tried the regular nvidia driver 295.40 for the 20th time today (I had lag issues and was testing Nouveau vs Nvidia with dual monitor and Unity2D-3D) Within my tty1 I tried to remove nvidia: sudo apt-get remove nvidia-settings nvidia-current and purge too reboot, nothing. So when lshw -c video displayed nvidia as my driver I tried sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf since I read ubuntu would "reset" the GUI conf but reboot, nothing. So next I tried sudo jockey-text --disable=xorg:nvidia_current And nothing has worked...

  As the subject goes; once a software architect puts down the high level design and approach to a software that is to be developed from scratch, how does the team ensure that it is implemented successfully? To my mind the following things will need to be done Proper understanding of requirements Setting down coding practices and guidelines Regular code reviews to ensure the guidelines are being adhered to Revisiting the requirements phase and making necessary changes to design based on client inputs if there are any changes to requirements Proper documentation of what is being done in code Proper documentation of requirements and changes to them Last but not the least, implementing the design via object oriented code where appropriate Did I miss anything? • Real life example of an agile game development process

  I'm trying to learn about applying agile methodologies to game development. But seems to be impossible to find real life examples. What I am looking for are things like; Initial user stories Final user stories (complete, covering the entire game requirements) Acceptance criteria Task list Sprint backlogs (before and after each sprint) The agile books seem to have some limited examples, many of which seem contrived. In this era of open source software, there must be an documented example of the process applied to a game that is publicly available. I am asking specifically about games because they are so different from normal applications. Regular applications are built to all users to complete specific tasks in order to get stuff done(book a room, print a report etc). People play games for much less tangible reasons, so I think the process is significantly different. [it doesn't have to be scrum, it could be any process, just needs to be a real life example game and be reasonably complete]

• Splitting up revenue among development team members on Apple's app store

  A friend and I have started developing an app to put on Apple's app store. Development is going fine, but thinking ahead, we're trying to come up with an easy way to share any revenue coming from our efforts. The app store allows you to deposit your revenue into a single bank account, but there's no easy way to split revenue among several people. How do (small) dev teams split up revenue on their products, on, and off the app store? As far as I can tell, banks don't offer an easy way to automatically split the balance on an account 50-50 (or any other percentage, for that matter), especially on a regular basis. So how do teams deal with this? We're not incorporated, and we don't have an official business set up. We're considering depositing all the money into one of our accounts and manually transferring half the money to the other person, but this isn't sustainable over long periods of time. Is there a low-cost, sustainable, automatic process for handling these finances?

• How will Deja-Dup operates when backing up to an external USB drive?

  I want to set up regular backups, and deja-dup seems like a nice tool. However, I want to put my backups on an extension USB drive that I have, not on a remote network location. Naturally, this drive is not always connected. If I configure deja-dup to backup to a directory on this drive (e.g. /media/extention/backup), what would happen? Will it prompt me to connect the drive when it is missing (the desired behavior), or just fail silently? Is there some way to tweak it to do so? I can roll my own cron-based backup script that checks if this drive is mounted, but I would really prefer to use an existing, integrated tool.

  I have the following table in my Dashboard: Page path level 1 Visits Goal Completions ----------------- ------ ---------------- /sub1/ 994 1,295 / 102 3 /sub2/ 10 1 I know my conversion rate is 10-20%, and that actually in this period I only had 183 goal completions under /sub1/. My goal is set as a regular expression for a particular page (/success?.*), and I have a funnel set up which tracks the page before the goal (/action). The actual urls hit would be /sub1/action then /sub1/success?1234 and /sub2/action then /sub2/success?1234. Why is my table in my dashboard giving me wildly wrong numbers? Have I done something wrong?

So far I've got them to accept that requirements always change priorities always change some of the requirements won't be delivered if you fix the time scale you should fix the time scale short sprints and regular review is good However they still feel like they need to get a better grip of roughly how much will be delivered within a certain time. I've come up with a spreadsheet to demonstrate what we might expect to get done in a range of 4 different timescales. Questions Are we setting ourselves up to fail Are there better ways to do this

• Is there a Design Pattern for preventing dangling references?

  I was thinking about a design for custom handles. The thought is to prevent clients from copying around large objects. Now a regular handle class would probably suffice for that, but it doesn't solve the "dangling reference problem"; If a client has multiple handles of the same object and deletes the object via one of them, all the others would be invalid, but not know it, so the client could write or read parts of the memory he shouldn't have access to. Is there a design pattern to prevent this from happening? Two ideas: An observer-like pattern where the destructor of an object would notify all handles. "Handle handles" (does such a thing even exist?). All the handles don't really point to the object, but to another handle. When the object gets destroyed, this "master-handle" invalidates itself and therefore all that point to it.

• USB Logitech Rumble Pad 2 gamepad AND Thustmaster Universal Challenge Wheel not working in wine

  The controller is detected by the OS, and shows up in lsusb, and I can configure it with jstest-gtk, but Live For Speed in Wine doesn't recognize it as connected. Using Lubuntu 12.04, wine version 1.5.5. P.S. - It worked on a previous install of regular Ubuntu 12.04, using the same Wine version. Have tried installing/overriding/un-overriding various DLL's through winetricks to no avail, including xact and dinput8. Since it worked in a previous install of the same version, I figured it was a configuration error, and that I should ask here as opposed to put in a bug report on winehq. EDIT: I just used both controllers in TORCS... why do they work in native games, but not in wine?

WebCenter is basically the new Portal framework in the Oracle stack - and one key thing that portals do is work with content, allowing you to compose and publish content from files as well as save and store content. In this demo you'll see how using a set of taskflows provided by WebCenter you can add a file management, creation and viewing capabilities to a regular ADF application. To try this out you don't need any fancy content management system - we'll just use your file system for now. All you need is the WebCenter extension installed in JDeveloper, and then you can follow the demo on your own JDeveloper instance. You'll define a connection to your content repository you'll be able to add a bunch of pre-built WebCenter taskflows into your page. • Which tips helped you learn touch-typing? [closed]

  I've been learning touch-typing for about two weeks now, and I'm really commited to mastering this skill. Eventhough I'm doing ok with prose already, I'm struggling with programming syntax and even more with keybindings. Those stray you away from the home row more than regular words, and aren't as easy to practice. So I often hunt and peck in order to just get it out, but when reverting to old habits like this, I find it hard to get back into the touch-typing mindframe quickly. One little trick that has helped me so far when getting lost is to reposition every finger on its home row key, and mentally visualize the layout bias of the keyboard, ie the backslash kind of alignment of key columns. It's hard to describe though and probably a bit weird... Hope you guys have better tips !

  I have a WCF service returning JSON to jQuery ajax calls and presenting the results on an ASPX page. When the page is NOT under SSL, the ajax calls work perfectly. When the page IS under SSL, the calls fail. I understand that this behavior must be due to the Same Origin Policy (SOP). So, how do I setup my WCF service to accept calls from an SSL-secured page? • Temporary R+W CIFS share for non-root accounts?

  I want to set up a cross platform mail client (Thunderbird), and so far I want to use NAS as a profile store. The NAS is CIFS based, and can be mounted on both Windows and Ubuntu. Also the locking works fine for mutex, and setup seems to work as a proof of concept. The problem is the Linux mount. Since I'm using a laptop, I'm not always connected to network, hence, I can't use the /etc/fstab to set up CIFS share with a modified group id. And the share has to be mounted using mount -t cifs ..., which causes it to be owned by root, and owned so badly, that it can't be chowned to the regular user account. This causes read only issues for Thunderbird, which seem to be solved if Thunderbird is launched via sudo. But I would like to avoid that and use a script to mount the share on-demand to a profile location, with profile based privileges and access rights. Is there a way to achieve that?

• Understanding the maximum hit-rate supported by a web-server

  I would like to crawl a publicly available site (and one that's legal to crawl) for a personal project. From a brief trial of the crawler, I gathered that my program hits the server with a new HTTPRequest 8 times in a second. At this rate, as per my estimate, to obtain the full set of data I need about 60 full days of crawling. While the site is legal to crawl, I understand it can still be unethical to crawl at a rate that causes inconvenience to the regular traffic on the site. What I'd like to understand here is -- how high is 8 hits per second to the server I'm crawling? Could I possibly do 4 times that (by running 4 instances of my crawler in parallel) to bring the total effort down to just 15 days instead of 60? How do you find the maximum hit-rate a web-server supports? What would be the theoretical (and ethical) upper-limit for the crawl-rate so as to not adversely affect the server's routine traffic?
