    How can I pass data from client to server? I have a very simple text editor created on a site and every few minutes or so I would like to send the information that has been typed in back to the server as a text file. I am trying to create an effect similar to the live type of googleWave. Speed and efficiency isn't all that important at the moment. A quick and dirty way would be suffice.

  • Response, Result, Reply, which is best?

    I'm refactoring some client-server code and it uses the terms Response, Result & Reply for the same thing (an answer from the server). And although its not really that important it's become hard to guess which word to use while writing new code, so I'd like to unify the three terms into one and do the appropriate refactoring, but I'm not sure which word is the "best", if there is such a thing. Any suggestions based on precedence and standards towards naming for this case?

    The following text says this which I'm not able to quite agree : client C sends a request R to server S. The time taken by a communication link to transport R over the link is D. P is the maximum time needed by S to recieve , process and reply to R. If omission failure is assumed ; then if no reply to R is received within 2(D+P) , then C will never recieve a reply to R . Why is the time here 2(D+P). As I understand shouldn't it be 2D+P ?

    Hello, I'm using .net 3.5 named pipes and my server side is : serverPipeStream = new NamedPipeServerStream("myPipe", PipeDirection.InOut, 1, PipeTransmissionMode.Byte, PipeOptions.Asynchronous); When I write some data with, say, BinaryWriter, the write() call itself doesn't return until the client side has called a read() on its NamedPipeClientStream. How can I make my write() to the named pipe non-blocking ? Thanks in advance for any help.

I can't find any method or property in pshost that returns the exit code. This engine I have needs to ensure that script executes correctly. Any help would be appreciated. regards Bob. Its the $lastexitcode and the $? variables I need to bring back. Hi, Finally answered. I found out about the $host variable. It implements a callback into the host, specifically a custom PSHost object, enabling you to return the $lastexitcode. Here is a link to an explanation of $host. http://mshforfun.blogspot.com/2006/08/do-you-know-there-is-host-variable.html It seems to be obscure, badly documented, as usual with powershell docs. Using point 4, calling $host.SetShouldExit(1) returns 1 to the SetShouldExit method of pshost, as described here. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.management.automation.host.pshost.setshouldexit(VS.85).aspx Its really depends on defining your own exit code defintion. 0 and 1 suffixes I guess. regards Bob.

    I would like to create a widget so that my visitors can display it on their blog/website. I would like to use jquery and jsonp to develop this widget. I know how to avoid conflicts between jQuery and other libraries (like prototype). But what will happen if jquery is already installed on my visitors' websites and if their version is different from my version ? What I mean is: what if, for example, they run a script using an older jquery version and which is not compatible with my jquery library ? Does it stop working ? Is their any workaround ?

I am trying to call a RESTful service that I had written using Jersey API and am trying to POST an xml string to it and I get HTTP 415 error which is supposed to be a Media Type error.     Hello, normally I would use Python/Perl for this procedure but I find myself (for political reasons) having to pull this off using a bash shell. I have a large tab delimited file that contains six columns and the second column is integers. I need to shell script a solution that would verify that the file indeed is six columns and that the second column is indeed integers. I am assuming that I would need to use sed/awk here somewhere. Problem is that I'm not that familiar with sed/awk. Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks! Lilly

    Hello, I am using windows script host for some kind of installer application and I'm creating shortcuts in start menu with it. This problem came up when I switched to x64 environment (win7 ultimate x64+vs2010) I added a reference to Windows Script Host Object Model (from c:\windows\syswow64\wshom.ocx), it generated Interop.IWshRuntimeLibrary dll. I added 'using IWshRuntimeLibrary;' to my .cs files, but when I tried to create WshShell sh = new WshShellClass(); it throws an exception: Could not load file or assembly 'Interop.IWshRuntimeLibrary, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. I assume that I would need 64-bit version of that wshom.ocx for this to work, but I don't know what should I try. Or I'll just dump Windows Script stuff, but I need another way to create start menu shortcuts from .net application. Thanks

If you're familiar with AutoHotkey or AutoIT on Windows, then you know exactly the kind of features I need, with the level of complexity. If you aren't familiar, then here's a small code snippet of how easy it is to use AHK: InputBox, varInput, Please enter some random text... Run, notepad.exe WinWaitActive, Untitled - Notepad SendInput, %varInput% SendInput, !f{Up}{Enter}{Enter} WinWaitActive, Save SendInput, SomeRandomFile{Enter} MsgBox, Your text`, %varInput% has been saved using notepad! #n::Run, notepad.exe Now the above example, although a bit pointless, is a demo of the sort of functionality and simplicity I'm looking for. Here's an explanation for those who don't speak AHK: ----Start of Explanation of Code ---- Asks user to input some text and stores it in varInput Runs notepad.exe Waits till window exists and is active Sends the contents of varInput as a series of keystrokes Sends keystrokes to go to File - Exit Waits till the "Save" window is active Sends some more keystrokes Shows a Message Box with some text and the contents of a variable Registers a hotkey, Win+N, which when pressed executes notepad.exe ----End of Explanation---- So as you can understand, the features are quite obvious: Ability to easily simulate keyboard and mouse functions, read input, process and display output, execute programs, manipulate windows, register hotkeys, etc.. all being done without requiring any #includes, unnecessary brackets, class declarations etc. In short: Simple. Now I've played around a bit with Perl and Python, but its definitely no AHK. They're great for more advanced stuff, but surely, there has to be some tool out there for easy GUI automation? PS: I've already tried running AHK with Wine but sending keystrokes and hotkeys don't work.

Consider something like: struct Parameter { int a; Parameter(){a = 0} void setA(int newA){a = newA;} }; struct MyClass { void changeParameter(Parameter &p){ p.setA(-1);} }; Well, let's fast forward, and imagine I already wrapped those classes, exposing everything to python, and imagine also I instantiate an object of Parameter in the C++ code, which I pass to the python script, and that python script uses a MyClass object to modify the instance of Parameter I created at the beginning in the C++ code. After that code executes, in C++ Parameter instance is unchanged!!! This means it was passed by value (or something alike :S), not by reference. But I thought I declared it to be passed by reference... I can't seem to find Boost::Python documentation about passing by reference (although there seems to be enough doc about returning by reference...). Can anyone give some hint or pointer please?
