• Spam link text when searching for company directors' name

  It was brought to my attention that if you search for the name of one of our directors (with the intent to find there profile page on our site) They come up as the first link in most search engines as you would expect but the link text is just pure spam. the three search string I have tested on Google, Bing, Ask, and Yahoo have all returned similar results. Here is a list of the search strings: Paolo rossi futex Mark rossi futex Marco rossi futex Dan Goldberg futex Any idea what might be causing this I have searched through as much of the sites code as I can and cant find anything wrong with it.

  As a student studying Computer Science in college, I often hear from friends working on various humanitarian projects, and I want to do something myself. But it seems that programmers don't have as many obvious avenues to help out as, say, doctors or teachers. What are some ways in which programmers can put their talent to use for people in poverty. Disclaimer: I am not saying that programmers have some obligation to do this, merely that I want to. I apologize if this question is too subjective for this site--I am marking it community wiki just in case (edit: I can't figure out how to mark this as community wiki. Can someone help me out?).

• How to install an application manually into Natty's Application list

  I am trying to install ZendStudio 8 (Eclipse based) on 11.04 and am kinda stuck at the part were I can get it into the Applications list. ZendStudio prior to version 8 came with a magic .bin which installed it all no problems, but now it simply comes as a folder all set up to be run as-is. I have copied this folder to /opt/ZendStudio, and I can launch the program using /opt/ZendStudio/ZendStudio but in the Unity Launcher it shows up with a grey box and a big Question Mark as it's icon. However, I'd like it to be show up in the Applications list so I can search for it and load it like a normal application. I also want to Pin it to the launcher so it stays there the whole time, and I tried this with running it directly but it didn't work and it didn't load up the application icon. Any ideas how I can finish the install so it is in my menus etc?

• Ubuntu 12.10 64bit fresh install, wireless issue!

  Just installed a fresh Ubuntu 12.10 64bit on my laptop, run the update manager, restarted and suddenly I can't use my wifi anymore. Ubuntu software center installed automatically the wifi additional driver as you can see in my screenshot. If I mark the option "Do not use the device" and apply changes, restarting Ubuntu my wifi is back and I can use it. If I run iwconfig my terminal is showing this Now if I use Ubuntu for more than 20 minutes surfing the web my wifi it keeps to be connected but I don't receive any signal from it. Any page I try to open it simply don't open (just waiting icon). If I disconnect my wifi and connect it again, same issue, it doesn't work. The only way to make it work again is to restart Ubuntu. And the same story it happens again after aprox. 20, 30 minutes. • I'm using a shared server, and as such Gmail marks my email as spam (all from headers are different from the same IP)

  I have a shared server, meaning many people share the same IP. When I send an email, the @website.com is different from someone else that shares the same IP with me, therefore Gmail marks it as spam. For example: My website's IP is 1.2.3.4. My website is mywebsite.com Person 2's website's IP is hosted by the same host, and as such their IP is 1.2.3.4 Person 2's website is person2.com. When they send an email, it gets sent from [email protected] When I send an email, it gets sent from [email protected] According to Gmail's spam thing: "Use the same address in the 'From:' header on every bulk mail you send." Again, the only similarities between our websites is the IP. However, this causes Gmail to mark both our mail as spam. Is there a way to sort this out with Gmail?

• webmaster tools - Network Unreachable

  Hi, webmaster tools for my site displays that robots.txt unreachable and for all links in sitemap it says network unreachable. sitemap.xml unreachable. These appear in crawl stats page. I discussed with the support team of my hosting and they said... Hi, I have verified apache logs, i cannot see any issues on your website/webserver/ Possible issues. There may the routing issue from the googles server to our server. When a google bots hits goes high the IP will be automatically blacklisted by our firewall to avoid server loads & downtimes. As we donot have access to their services, We cannot able to give details of their details/logs etc. The sitemaps link shows an exclamation mark which means the file was not reachable. What could be the problem and how to solve it?

• What a week! Oracle OpenWorld & Maria Bartiromo (CNBC)

  It's been a week since the end of Oracle OpenWorld and JavaOne and both events were a huge success! We had many announcements including Oracle ADF Mobile, Oracle ADF Essentials, Oracle Developer Cloud Service and tons more.  Above is a picture I snapped of Maria Bartiromo from CNBC, who was there to interview Larry Ellison and Mark Hurd.  The stage was right in the midst of the booths that showcased new products, at Moscone North.  She's such a pro. With all the noise and people milling around gawking and taking pictures (myself included) she was solid & composed.   Her level of focus and the production quality of the show is impressive. She later stopped by for a demo of OEPE's  new support for Oracle ADF as well as Oracle Developer Cloud Service. She seemed impressed too. ;-)

• Google not recognizing microdata? [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: How long for data highlighter mark up to appear in structured data tool? 2 answers I put in microdata to one page of a site I help manage using schema.org. Using the Google webmaster tool test, the page checks out and displays what it sees as the microdata properly. But when I go to the Structured Data page in webmaster tools, it keeps saying the site does not have any. I put it in 2 weeks ago. Us it just something that take a while for it to recognize? Or does microdata have to be on every page for it to be recognized or something?

You might have seen it in sessions presented by Chris Leone, Anthony Lye, Jeremy Ashley and others or you may have gotten a look on the demogrounds. Why are we delivering a new face for Fusion Applications? "Because," says Ashley, vice president of the Oracle Applications User Experience team, "we want to provide a simple, modern, productive way for users to complete their top quick-entry tasks. The idea is to provide a clear, productive user experience that is backed by the full functionality of Fusion Applications." The first release of the new face of Fusion focuses on three types of users. • Microsoft Async CTP for DDD9 UK Developer Conference - slides and source code now available

  Thanks to all the nice comments from people who attended my presentation at DDD9, and extra thanks to Jon Skeet, Mark Rendle and Mike Hadlow for coming on stage for the last ten minutes to help debate whether the Async CTP is the correct way to go to enhance C# 5.0. • Emacs editor copy and deletion

  I am a huge fan of emacs.. But even after 1 year of practising on emacs I am unable to solve these three annoying issues about emacs please help me! 1.Whenever I want to copy the content from emacs into other things such as a website textarea I have to use GUI copy button because ctrl+w doesn't work. Is there any way to do this from emacs-command line. 2.Whenever I delete something using ctrl+shft+SPC or ctrl+k etc I don't want it to be stored in kill ring how do I do it(I know ctrl+D does this but it deletes only one char at a time)? 3.Whenever I select text by mouse and press backspace then text goes into kill ring(Which I want to change as mentioned) but same doesn't happen when I select text with ctrl+SPC(set mark) and then ctrl+f/ctrl+b etc. Please help me! • Please Stop Voting Against a Candidate

  DISCLAIMER:  This is not a post about “Romney” or “Obama”.  This is not a post for whom I am voting.  This is simply a post to address an issue that I cannot ignore any longer.  This two-party system that we have allowed to establish a foothold is killing this country.    More than 2 Options I was recently asked, “If you had to choose Romney or Obama who would you pick?”  I replied “Non sequiter.  The founders of this nation ensured that I never have to pick from only two candidates.”  But somehow that is the way this country’s citizens think.  I told someone last week that there are around 20 candidates for president and she was genuinely surprised.  (There are actually 25 candidates.)  She had no idea there were that many and, even though she knew there are more, she didn’t know any names beyond Romney and Obama.  Well, I am going to try and educate people like her on other options. Vote for a Candidate, not against another Candidate So this post is the first in a series with a little bit of information about each candidate for president.  I implore you…I beg you, please do your civic duty and conduct a little bit of investigation and research on your own to find the right candidate for you.  Hey, if your candidate is Romney or Obama, that’s fine.  As long as it’s an educated decision.  But please…stop voting against a candidate.  Start voting for a candidate. • How to prevent thunderbird gmail/IMAP from marking deleted/archived emails as read

  I have thunderbird setup to use gmail IMAP. I followed the various guides that recommend setting Edit-Account Settings-Server Settings-When I delete a message-Remove it immediately. Unfortunately this didn't have quite the effect I wanted and after more digging I discovered here that: [Thunderbird] [Gmail] Mark Deleted = Archive Copy to [Gmail]/Trash = Delete Permanently Remove it immediately = Archive Unfortunately whenever I deleted (archived) a message it was also marked as read whether it had been or not. I didn't want this because I like to keep my inbox clean and archive anything that doesn't actually matter, such as funny emails, etc. and then go back and look through the archive later when I have time. What settings do I need to prevent messages from being marked read when I delete them? I'm using Thunderbird 17.0 on Ubuntu 12.04

• Chambers In A Castle Algorithm

  Problem Statement - Given a NxM grid of 1s & 0s (1s mark walls, while 0s indicate empty chambers), the task is to identify the number of chambers & the size of the largest. And just to whet my curiosity, to find in which chamber, a cell belongs. It seems like an ad hoc problem, since the regular algorithms just don't fit in. I just can't get the logic for writing an algorithm for the problem. If you get it, pseudo-code would be of great help! • Which tool to create a sitemap to plan a future site?

  I'd like to create a sitemap to plan a future site, and I'm looking for a tool to do it. I'd like to create a list of all articles first. Then a hierachy. Then I'd like to put the articles on several places in the hierachy. I should be able to put one article at different places. I'd like to have the ability to mark the articles in different colors whether they should come into the first version of the website or later.

• Boss solution vs Developer solution

  The problem: When we were sending newsletters to customers, there was no way to confirm if the customer already received the mail. So the boss decided to implement this idea: Boss's Idea: Each time mail was being sent, do an INSERT in a db with the title of the newsletter being sent and the email address which is receving the email address. To ensure that any email address does not receive the same email twice, do a SELECT in the table and find the title of the newsletter being sent: if (title of newsletter is found) { check to see of the email we are sending mail to is already present. if it does, do not send mail } else { send mail } MY idea: create a column called unique and mark it as UNIQUE. Each time mail was being sent, concatenate email + newsletter id and record it in the UNIQUE row. The next time we do a "mysql_affected_rows" check to see if our INSERT was successful, we send the mail, else, there is already a duplicate and no need to send it.

• How do you manage feature requests and software changes?

  I am a Software Engineer and over the past few years I have become the de-facto software project manager simply because there isn't one. So to keep our sanity in the R&D/Engineering department, customers have become accustomed to coming to me with their requests. I have no experience in this realm so it is my first time acting as a project manager for software projects. I have managed other things but not software. So, how do you manage software projects and mark priorities? Requests come in at infrequent intervals so we very well could be working on something for someone else and then another person comes in with a "rush" job that needs working on. Is it easier to just say First Come, First Serve or is it the person with the most money?
