  • Why doesn't web browsers have built in validators?

    As far as I know there is no web browser with built in validators for HTML, CSS and Javascript. Developing web pages without validation is like using a compiler that doesn't do syntax analysis. Even Firefox with its excellent plugins aimed at developers like Firebug lacks plugins for CSS and Javascript validation. Wouldn't it be useful to have these plugins? Am I missing something?

  • Unfamiliar Javascript Syntax

    Long and short of the story is, whilst reading John Resig's blog (specifically http://ejohn.org/blog/javascript-trie-performance-analysis/) I came across a line which makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. Essentially it boils down to object = object[key] = something; (this can be found in the first code block of the article I've linked.) This has proven rather difficult to google, so if anyone can offer some insight / a good online resource for me to learn for myself, I'd much appreciate it.

    In MVC, should each model be a globally accessible singleton accessible to any view/controller? Or should the models be singletons that are dependency injected into any component that requires them? Or should a new model instance be created for each component that needs one, in which case events would be used to propagate changes across model instances of the same class?

  • Numpy/Python performing terribly vs. Matlab

    Novice programmer here. I'm writing a program that analyzes the relative spatial locations of points (cells). The program gets boundaries and cell type off an array with the x coordinate in column 1, y coordinate in column 2, and cell type in column 3. It then checks each cell for cell type and appropriate distance from the bounds. If it passes, it then calculates its distance from each other cell in the array and if the distance is within a specified analysis range it adds it to an output array at that distance. My cell marking program is in wxpython so I was hoping to develop this program in python as well and eventually stick it into the GUI. Unfortunately right now python takes ~20 seconds to run the core loop on my machine while MATLAB can do ~15 loops/second. Since I'm planning on doing 1000 loops (with a randomized comparison condition) on ~30 cases times several exploratory analysis types this is not a trivial difference. I tried running a profiler and array calls are 1/4 of the time, almost all of the rest is unspecified loop time.   • cx-freeze + linux + python 2.6 + wxpython

    Hi All, Not able to create standalone python binary package 1) The binary package works only on the machine on which it is build 2) There is always an error with respect console.py dependent on cx_freeze and wx libraries (.so files). 3) Tried the rpath trick suggested at this link http://wiki.wxpython.org/CreatingStandaloneExecutables 4) I have also experimented with GUI2exe , but still dependency problem exists. Please let me know if there is working python script to solve these dependence problem of cx_freeze and wx._core (.so) files. Thank you

I have read some where on web Working on customer implementations, we found some interesting performance numbers concerning the money data type. For example, when Analysis Services was set to the currency data type (from double) to match the SQL Server money data type, there was a 13% improvement in processing speed (rows/sec). Is it true??

  • Excel macro to change location of .cub files used by pivot tables? (to allow .xls files that depend

    I often use Excel with pivot tables based on .cub files for OLAP-type analysis. This is great except when you want to move the xls and you realise internally it's got a non-relative reference to the location of the .cub file. How can we cope with this - ie make it convenient to move around xls files that depend on .cub files? The best answer I could come up with is writing a macro that updates the pivot tables' reference to the .cub file location....so I'll pop that in an answer.

It would be great if I could view what Types/Instances are registered in the container, but I can't see where this is stored when using QuickWatch.     After reading command design pattern, I have a couple of question - Why we are creating concrete command and receiver object on client. Can't this initialization on invoker class? I think client should create invoker and pass it's request to invoker. Invoker should take care of all the stuff. By doing this, We have less dependency on client. The design of class diagram is totally different from actual design.

  • How to create a "copy" of SQL Server transaction log file

    I want a copy of SQL Server transaction log file for "raw" analysis. What is the safest way to get a copy of that file without shutting down the database and disturbing the existing log/backups/backup schedules and just about everything. FYI, Its a SQL Server 2000 database server and I can see the log file (its about 4GB in size) and I cannot copy it as is; I get the "access denied" error when copying from explorer or command line.

  • .NET coupled with MATLAB or R?

    I'm writing a program in .NET that will need to utilize the statistical and data analysis functions of R or MATLAB. I have used R but am now contemplating moving to MATLAB since it has a .Net compiler while R can only interface via COM objects. Can anyone recommend going either way? I know MATLAB is infinitely more expensive than R (since R is free) but I'm thinking that may translate to an easier development cycle?

  • Silverlight MVVM add record from user control

    I have a User Control for searching container numbers. If the user enters a container number that's new to the system then I want to tell the VM "I have a new record to add". The MVVM method avoids using Events to communicate with the VM as they create code-behind. Should I create a Dependency Property to trigger the VM but I don't think I've seen other controls with a "NewRecord" property? Any thoughts?
