    I am using VB2005 and SQL SERVER 2000. I want to insert date and time.

    Hello All, Could someone please advise in the context of a ASP.Net application is a shared/static function common to all users? If for example you have a function Public shared function GetStockByID(StockID as Guid) as Stock Is that function common to all current users of your application? Or is the shared function only specific to the current user and shared in the context of ONLY that current user? So more specifically my question is this, besides database concurrency issues such as table locking do I need to concern myself with threading issues in shared functions in an ASP.Net application? In my head; let’s say my application namespace is MyTestApplicationNamespace. Everytime a new user connects to my site a new instance of the MyTestApplicationNamespace is created and therefore all shared functions are common to that instance and user but NOT common across multiple users. Is this correct?

    I'm trying to read an Excel file (.xls, I think Excel 2003 compatible) via OleDB, but it fails to get the values for referenced fields.     I have a WinForm with a pretty complex layout (has lots of controls, panels, etc.) Whenever i open the form the file is automatically checked out from source control and it removes anything in the designer file that refereces my menustrip or statusstrip ie: the following get removed (w/o warning) Me.MyMenuStip.SuspendLayout() Me.MyStatusStrip.SuspendLayout() Me.MyMenuStrip.ResumeLayout(False) Me.MyMenuStrip.PerformLayout() Me.MyStatusStrip.ResumeLayout(False) Me.MyStatusStrip.PerformLayout() The code still builds, but there are no Menu or Status items rendered. Any ideas on what i can do? I do not want to just remove/add the menustrip for instance cause i would loose all of my menu items (and there are a lot) Thanks in advance!

    I'm not sure how to describe this but I'm trying to create a base class that contains a shared (factory) function called FromXml. I want this function to instantiate an object of the proper type and then fill it via an XmlDocument.     Hello, I have a class with a delegate declaration as follows... Public Class MyClass Public Delegate Function Getter(Of TResult)() As TResult ''#the following code works. Public Shared Sub MyMethod(ByVal g As Getter(Of Boolean)) ''#do stuff End Sub End Class However, I do not want to explicitly type the Getter delegate in the Method call. Why can I not declare the parameter as follows... ... (ByVal g As Getter(Of TResult)) Is there a way to do it? My end goal was to be able to set a delegate for property setters and getters in the called class. But my reading indicates you can't do that. So I put setter and getter methods in that class and then I want the calling class to set the delegate argument and then invoke. Is there a best practice for doing this. I realize in the above example that I can set set the delegate variable from the calling class...but I am trying to create a singleton with tight encapsulation. For the record, I can't use any of the new delegate types declared in .net35. Answers in C# are welcome. Any thoughts? Seth

Now on the first gird I am fetching data of employee names. Now on the second grid I have to display data of manager names and their comments. The data is on the same table. On show button of the first grid it shows all the employees. then on AdvWebGrid.ClickLink or any selected user on the first grid , i have to display the manager names and their comments on the second grid. But then I cant get out of the ListView and focus on the ComboBox again, I can only go up and down in the ListView items, how do I let the user go back to the ComboBox?

  • Getting Stored Procedure Information from .Net

    Hi, I am trying to get some data relevant to a stored procedure (or funtion) back from a database using .Net. The first thing I need to be able to do, is get the stored proc from the database and turn it into string format. The information I need is: The return set of columns, tables used within the SP, Stored Procedures called from the SP. The only way of doing this at the moment that i can think of, is though parsing the text and looking for keyword matches. Is there a better way of doing this? Any ideas? Thanks.

    I apologize if that title is confusing. This question may be a result of lack of coffee and/or sleep, but my mind is not working correctly right now. Anyways, I have an inheritance tree like such (I know the architecture isn't ideal): BaseClass GeneralForm : Inherits BaseClass SpecificForm : Inherits GeneralForm And an object like so: MyItem MySpecificItem : Inherits MyItem I have Items As List (Of MyItem) as a property in BaseClass. I would like for SpecificForm to somehow override Items to return type List (Of MySpecificItem). I feel like this is easy to do, but again, my head is spinning and I can't think straight at the moment. Thank you so much in advance.

    I have a drop down which has a method which binds data to it: dropDown.Items.Clear() dropDown.AppendDataBoundItems = True Select Case selType Case SelectionTypes.Empty dropDown.Items.Insert(0, New ListItem("", "")) Case SelectionTypes.Any dropDown.Items.Insert(0, New ListItem("ANY", "")) Case SelectionTypes.Select dropDown.Items.Insert(0, New ListItem("Select One", "")) End Select BindDropDown(val) The BindDropDown method simply sets the datasource, datakeyname, datavaluename, and then databinds the data. For a reason which I cannot avoid, I MUST call this method twice sometimes. When it is called twice, All of the databound items show up two times, but the top item (the one I manually insert) is there only once. Is ASP doing something wierd when i databind twice even though i clear the list between? Or does it have to do something with the viewstate/controlstate? EDIT__ The entire page, and this control has EnableViewState="false" EDIT___ The dropdown is inside a form view. After the selected value is set I have to rebind the dropdown just in case the selected value is not there [because it is an inactive user]. After this, the formview duplicates the databound items.

We have a number of documents that are the same size i.e. 488x320mm, the content within these documents is always positioned relative to the top right of the document but varies in size i.e. 210x330mm, 240x350mm etc. What i need to do is 'find' the content block and move it from its current position to the centre of the sheet.   • Accented character replacement for search then reinserted afterwards

    Basically my issue is that users would like to search for a french word that has accented characters but without typing in the accented characters and then have the actual accented word appeared highlighted if found... So for example they would type in "declare" but in the result sets it would look like "déclare" and if found "déclare" would be highlighted. My first thought was to just simply replace the characters with a regex but then I remembered that I would need to re-insert the replaced characters after the search... I was thinking of then using some sort of character map that would track position and the character so that when the search was finshed I could put the result set back to the way it was. This seems a little brute force to me and I was wondering if anyone had a better alternative? I'm using Visual Studio 2005 with this app. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks

  • Strategy for developing a multi function asp.net web application

    I'm about to start a new project and want some advice on how to implement. I need a web application which contains a booking module for reserving timeslots, and a time management module which will enable employees to clock in / clock out. If I am writing an update to the time managment module, I don't want to disrupt the booking engine availability by releasing a new solution containing both modules. to make things more difficult, there is some shared functionality like common users, roles and security. Here's a suggestion I've gotten, which sounds a bit cruddy, but may be functional. Write a 'container' web application which consists of basically a frame, and authentication / security features. This then has links which, will load the 2 independantly built and released web applications into the frame. I can see that say, if I wanted to update the time management module, I would only need to build and release this separately, and the rest of the solution would be 'untouched' Any better alternatives?

  • MSMQ - Message Queue Abstraction and Pattern

    Hi All, Let me define the problem first and why a messagequeue has been chosen. I have a datalayer that will be transactional and EXTREMELY insert heavy and rather then attempt to deal with these issues when they occur I am hoping to implement my application from the ground up with this in mind. I have decided to tackle this problem by using the Microsoft Message Queue and perform inserts as time permits asynchronously. However I quickly ran into a problem. Certain inserts that I perform may need to be recalled (ie: retrieved) immediately (imagine this is for POS system and what happens if you need to recall the last transaction - one that still hasn’t been inserted). The way I decided to tackle this problem is by abstracting the MessageQueue and combining it in my data access layer thereby creating the illusion of a single set of data being returned to the user of the datalayer (I have considered the other issues that occur in such a scenario (ie: essentially dirty reads and such) and have concluded for my purposes I can control these issues). However this is where things get a little nasty... I’ve worked out how to get the messages back and such (trivial enough problem) but where I am stuck is; how do I create a generic (or at least somewhat generic) way of querying my message queue? One where I can minimize the duplication between the SQL queries and MessageQueue queries. I have considered using LINQ (but have very limited understanding of the technology) and have also attempted an implementation with Predicates which so far is pretty smelly. Are there any patterns for such a problem that I can utilize? Am I going about this the wrong way? Does anyone have an of their own ideas about how I can tackle this problem? Does anyone even understand what I am talking about? :-) Any and ALL input would be highly appreciated and seriously considered… Thanks again.

In fact, it's the exact line number that is on. Any thoughts of what is going on here, and how I can catch the real line number the error is occuring on?
