  • algorithm to generate maximum number of character 'A' using keystrokes 'A', CTRL + 'A', CTRL + 'C' and CTRL + 'V'

    - by munda
This is an interview question from google. I am not able to solve it by myself. Can somebody throw some light? The question goes like this. Write a program to print the sequence of keystrokes such that it generates the maximum number of character 'A's. You are allowed to use only 4 keys: 'A', CTRL + 'A', CTRL + 'C' and CTRL + 'V'. Only N keystrokes are allowed. All CTRL+ characters are considered as one keystroke, so CTRL+A is one keystroke. e.g.: A, ctrl+A, ctrl+C, ctrl+V generates two As in 4 keystrokes. Edit: CTRL + A is Select All CTRL + C is copy CTRL + V is paste I did some mathematics. For any N, using x numbers of A's , one CTRL+A, one CTRL+C and y CTRL+V, we can generate max ((N-1)/2)^2 numbers of A's. But for some N M, it is better to use as many ^A, ^C and ^V as it doubles the number of As. Edit 2: ^A, ^V and ^C will not overwrite on the existing selection but it will append the copied selection to selected one.

  • How to receive sms from a special phone number?

    - by Pariya
    I wrote a send and receive sms in android successfully. I want my program to be able to receive sms from a special number("+9856874236"). But, if the SMS is from any other number, it should go to the phone's message inbox and not to my application. import android.content.BroadcastReceiver; import android.content.Context; import android.content.Intent; import android.os.Bundle; import android.telephony.SmsMessage; import android.util.Log; public class SmsReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver { public String str = ""; @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { Bundle bundle = intent.getExtras(); Object messages[] = (Object[]) bundle.get("pdus"); SmsMessage[] msgs = null; if (bundle != null) { Object[] pdus = (Object[]) bundle.get("pdus"); SmsMessage smsMessage[] = new SmsMessage[messages.length]; String msg_from=""; for (int n = 0; n < messages.length; n++) { smsMessage[n] = SmsMessage.createFromPdu((byte[]) messages[n]); msg_from += msgs[n].getOriginatingAddress(); } String receivedMessage = smsMessage[0].getMessageBody().toString().toUpperCase(); if(msg_from .equals("+989124236870")) { for (int n = 0; n < messages.length; n++) { smsMessage[n] = SmsMessage.createFromPdu((byte[]) pdus[n]); str += "SMS from " + msgs[n].getOriginatingAddress(); str += " :"; //str += "sms az shomare makhsus"; str += msgs[n].getMessageBody().toString(); str += "\n"; abortBroadcast(); } Intent act = new Intent(context, MainActivity.class); act.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); act.putExtra("message", str); context.startActivity(act); } } } }

  • What are USB device resets?

    - by ILIV
I have this brand-new software RAID-1 built with two WD Elements external USB drives, and I can see that Linux repeats the following message quite a bit: ... [302148.036912] usb 1-3.1: reset high-speed USB device number 19 using ehci_hcd [302153.052029] usb 1-3.3: reset high-speed USB device number 20 using ehci_hcd [302186.031481] usb 1-3.3: reset high-speed USB device number 20 using ehci_hcd [302217.050210] usb 1-3.3: reset high-speed USB device number 20 using ehci_hcd [302281.043543] usb 1-3.3: reset high-speed USB device number 20 using ehci_hcd [302312.090158] usb 1-3.3: reset high-speed USB device number 20 using ehci_hcd [302351.076851] usb 1-3.1: reset high-speed USB device number 19 using ehci_hcd ... So, what does it say? Is this normal? Is this a problem that I should try to fix?

  • Are there version control systems that allow you to permanently delete files?

    - by Andrea Francia
I need to keep under version some large files (some Gigs). I don't need, and I can't keep under version all the version of the files. I want to be able to remove from my VCS large files version at some moment. What control version system could I use? EDIT: The files that I want to keep under version control are big .zip files or ISO images. These files may contains executable software or data (seismic data, SAR images, GNSS data) and they are provided by the software supplier of my company.

  • Int - number too large. How to get program to fail?

    - by Dave
    Hi Problem: How do you get a program to fail if a number goes beyond the bounds of its type? This code below gives the wrong answer for sum of primes under 2 million as I'd used an int instead of a long. [TestMethod] public void CalculateTheSumOfPrimesBelow2million() { int result = PrimeTester.calculateTheSumOfPrimesBelow(2000000); // 2million Assert.AreEqual(1, result); // 1,179,908,154 .. this was what I got with an int... // correct answer was 142,913,828,922 with a long } public static class PrimeTester { public static int calculateTheSumOfPrimesBelow(int maxPrimeBelow) { // we know 2 is a prime number int sumOfPrimes = 2; int currentNumberBeingTested = 3; while (currentNumberBeingTested < maxPrimeBelow) { double squareRootOfNumberBeingTested = (double)Math.Sqrt(currentNumberBeingTested); bool isPrime = true; for (int i = 2; i <= squareRootOfNumberBeingTested; i++) { if (currentNumberBeingTested % i == 0) { isPrime = false; break; } } if (isPrime) sumOfPrimes += currentNumberBeingTested; currentNumberBeingTested += 2; // as we don't want to test even numbers } return sumOfPrimes; } }

  • How would you update 100+ variables if something is changed in a different class?

    - by N. Lucas
I have a class Grid which produces a graph paper like grid on in the drawing area. I then have 5 other classes for different shapes to draw with; Line, Polygon, Ellipse, Curve, Arc Now, these 5 classes use an instance of Grid because Grid has a resolution and a scale. Inside Grid I have: public function set resolution(x:Number):void { _gap = (modBy10(x) / 10); _scale = (modBy10(x) / (this.resolution * _scale)); draw(); } public function get resolution():Number { return (_gap * 10); } public function set scale(x:Number):void { _scale = (this.resolution / x); } public function get scale():Number { return _scale; } /**/ public function scaleLength(x:Number):Number { return (x * this.scale); } public function scaleLengthDown(x:Number):Number { return (x / this.scale); } public function scaleArea(x:Number):Number { return (x / Math.pow(this.scale, 2)); } I'm just lost for a solution on how to update every instance of my 5 drawing classes when Grid is changed. For instance, Polygon is made up of multiple instances of Line, Line(length, angle) where "length" is in either in, ft, cm, or m. If the user wishes to change the scale from say 10ft per 100px resolution.. Is there an easier way than re-drawing every Line inside Polygon?

  • PL/SQL 'select in' from a list of values whose type are different from the outer query

    - by Attilah
I have the following tables : Table1 ( Col1 : varchar2, Col2 : number, Col3 : number) Table2 ( Col1 : number, Col2 : varchar2, Col3 : varchar2) I want to run a query like this : select distinct Col2 from Table1 where Col1 in ( select Col1 from Table2 ) Table1.Col1 is of type varchar2 while Table2.Col1 is of type number. so, I need to do some casting, it seems but it fails to succeed. The problem is that any attempts to run the query returns the following error : ORA-01722: invalid number 01722. 00000 - "invalid number" *Cause: *Action: Table1.Col1 contains some null values.

  • How to migrate Django models from mysql to sqlite (or between any two database systems)?

    - by Daphna Shezaf
I have a Django deployment in production that uses MySQL. I would like to do further development with SQLite, so I would like to import my existing data to an SQLite database. I There is a shell script here to convert a general MySQL dump to SQLite, but it didn't work for me (apparently the general problem isn't easy). I figured doing this using the Django models must be much easier. How would you do this? Does anyone have any script to do this?

  • How can you exclude a large number of records in a cross db query using LINQ2SQL?

    - by tap
So here is my situation: I have a vendor supplied DB we cannot modify and a custom db that imports data from the vendor app and acts on it. Once records are imported form the vendor app, they cannot appear on the list of records to be imported. Also we only want to display the 250 most recent records that have not been imported. What I originally started with was select the list of ids that have been imported from the custom db, and then query the vendor db, using the list of ids in a .Where(x = !idList.Contains(x.Id)) clause on the remote query. This worked up until we broke 2100 records imported into the custom db, as 2100 is the limit on the number of parameters that can be passed into SQL. After finding out this was the actual problem and not the 'invalid buffer'/'severe error' ADO.Net reported, my solution was to remove the first 2000 ids in the remote query, and then remove the remaining records in the local query. Having to pull back a large number of irrelevant records, just to exclude them, so I can get the correct 250 records seems very inelegant. Is there a better way to do this, short of doing a cross db stored procedure? Thanks in advance.

  • How to maintain original figure numbers in pdf document saved from Word 2007 file?

    - by S_H
I have a Word 2007 document in which the Figure numbers and List of Figures is correct i.e. exactly as I want. I generate a pdf (Adobe Reader X, Version 10.1.2) from Word 2007 document using the save as option. The List of Figures in the pdf document comes out exactly as present in the Word document, however when I click on that Figure number I see a different number than present in List of Figures. For example, I have this Figure number on List of Figures which is exactly as I want: But the corresponding Figure on Page 61 shows following number: It is becoming 4-21 from 4-7 because the total number of Figures from Chapters 1 till this Figure are 20. However, I want break in number of Figures between each Chapter i.e. Figures for Chapter 4 should start from 4-1, so the number 4-21 is actually 4-7 in that case. How can I correct this? Thanks.

  • What are the merits of using the various VCS (Version Control Systems) that exist to track Drupal pr

    - by ZoFreX
I'm trying to find the best version control strategy for my workflow with Drupal. I have multiple sites per install and I'm pretty sure I'll have a separate repository for each website. As far as I know, the VCSs worth considering are: SVN Bazaar (bzr) Git Mercurial (hg) I know how these compare to each other in general, but want to learn their merits/demerits for Drupal. If you're using (or have used) any of these for Drupal: What is your setup? What about the VCS you chose works well for managing Drupal projects? What doesn't?

  • Do Distributed Version Control Systems promote poor backup habits?

    - by John
In a DVCS, each developer has an entire repository on their workstation, to which they can commit all their changes. Then they can merge their repo with someone else's, or clone it, or whatever (as I understand it, I'm not a DVCS user). To me that flags a side-effect, of being more vulnerable to forgetting to backup. In a traditional centralised system, both you as a developer and the people in charge know that if you commit something, it's held on a central server which can have decent backup solutions in place. But using a DVCS, it seems you only have to push your work to a server when you feel like sharing it. It's all very well you have the repo locally so you can work on your feature branch for a month without bothering anyone, but it means (I think) that checking in your code to the repo is not enough, you have to remember to do regular pushes to a backed-up server. It also means, doesn't it, that a team lead can't see all those nice SVN commit emails to keep a rough idea what's going on in the code-base? Is any of this a real issue?

  • How to delay program for a certain number of milliseconds, or until a key is pressed?

    - by Jack
I need to delay my program's execution for a specified number of milliseconds, but also want the user to be able to escape the wait when a key is pressed. If no key is pressed the program should wait for the specified number of milliseconds. I have been using Thread.Sleep to halt the program (which in the context of my program I think is ok as the UI is set to minimise during the execution of the main method). I have thought about doing something like this: while(GetAsyncKeyState(System.Windows.Forms.Keys.Escape) == 0 || waitTime > totalWait) { Thread.Sleep(100); waitTime += 100; } As Thread.Sleep will wait until at least the time specified before waking the thread up, there will obviously be a large unwanted extra delay as it is scaled up in the while loop. Is there some sort of method that will sleep for a specified amount of time but only while a condition holds true? Or is the above example above the "correct" way to do it but to use a more accurate Sleep method? If so what method can I use? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • How to read and save data from text file with variable number of columns in a Matrix in Matlab

    - by khan
    I have a text file with integer values. each row contains information about specific object. But unfortunately each row has different number of column. because of which when i try to use file_content = load('txtfile.txt'); it gives me error message that previous number of columns does not match. i also tried to use fgetl, fscanf, etc function but was unsuccessful. Can anybody give me a piece of code, or help me how to read a txt file and save in matrix in matlab. Three sample rows are given below. 1 1 1 1 1 95 17 54 111 92 17 54 111 92 17 54 111 92 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 54 109 92 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 58 109 96 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 56 109 94 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 17 58 111 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 56 109 94 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 1 1 1 2 96 185 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 15 56 109 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 54 107 92 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 54 109 92 15 54 109 92 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 1 1 1 3 186 245 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 56 109 94 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 15 58 109 96 13 58 107 96 13 56 107 94 13 56 107 94 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 56 107 94 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 13 60 107 98 13 58 107 96 13 58 107 96 15 58 109 96 13 58 107 96 As you can see the rows doesn't have equal number of columns. So how can i read and save it in a Matrix. Any help in this regards will be highly appreciated. Thanks

  • Too many connections to 212.192.255.240

    - by Castor
Recently, my Internet slowed down drastically. I downloaded a tool to see the TCP/IP connections from my Vista computer. I found out that a lot TCP/IP connections are being connected to 212.192.255.240 through SVCHost. It seems that it is trying to connect to different ports. I think that my computer is being infected with some kind of malware etc. But I am not sure how to get rid of it. I did a little bit of research on this IP but found nothing. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. UPDATE: This is the HiJackThis log file and I can't find any thing weird. Also, the program is also trying to create connections to 91.205.127.63, which is also from Russia. • .htaccess not working (mod_rewrite)

    - by Mike Curry
Edit: I am pretty sure my .htaccess file is NOT being executed, and the problem is NOT with my rewrite rules. I have not having any luck getting my .htaccess with mod_rewrite working. Basically all I am trying to do is remove 'www' from "http://www.site.com" and "https://www.site.com". If there is anything I am missing (conf files, etc let me know I willl update this) I jsut can't see whats wrong here... I am using a 1&1 VPS III Virtual private server... anyone ever have this issue? I am using Ubuntu 8.04 Server LTS. Here is my .htaccess file (located @ /var/www/site/trunk/html/) Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.(.*) [NC] RewriteRule (.*) //%1/$1 [L,R=301] My mod_rewrite is enabled: The auto regenerated sym link is there in mods-available and /usr/lib/apache2/modules/ contains mod_rewrite.so root@s15348441:/etc/apache2/mods-available# more rewrite.load LoadModule rewrite_module /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_rewrite.so root@s15348441:/var/log# apache2ctl -t -D DUMP_MODULES Loaded Modules: core_module (static) log_config_module (static) logio_module (static) mpm_prefork_module (static) http_module (static) so_module (static) alias_module (shared) auth_basic_module (shared) authn_file_module (shared) authz_default_module (shared) authz_groupfile_module (shared) authz_host_module (shared) authz_user_module (shared) autoindex_module (shared) cgi_module (shared) dir_module (shared) env_module (shared) mime_module (shared) negotiation_module (shared) php5_module (shared) rewrite_module (shared) setenvif_module (shared) ssl_module (shared) status_module (shared) Syntax OK My apache config files: apache2.conf # # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool. # # This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the # configuration directives that give the server its instructions. # See http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/ for detailed information about # the directives. # # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure # consult the online docs. You have been warned. # # The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections: # 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a # whole (the 'global environment'). # 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server, # which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host. # These directives also provide default values for the settings # of all virtual hosts. # 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to # different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the # same Apache server process. # # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "/var/log/apache2/foo.log" # with ServerRoot set to "" will be interpreted by the # server as "//var/log/apache2/foo.log". # ### Section 1: Global Environment # # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache, # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it # can find its configuration files. # # # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's # configuration, error, and log files are kept. # # NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network) # mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation (available # at <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.1/mod/mpm_common.html#lockfile>); # you will save yourself a lot of trouble. # # Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path. # ServerRoot "/etc/apache2" # # The accept serialization lock file MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL DISK. # #<IfModule !mpm_winnt.c> #<IfModule !mpm_netware.c> LockFile /var/lock/apache2/accept.lock #</IfModule> #</IfModule> # # PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process # identification number when it starts. # This needs to be set in /etc/apache2/envvars # PidFile ${APACHE_PID_FILE} # # Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out. # Timeout 300 # # KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than # one request per connection). • Oracle NoSQL Database Exceeds 1 Million Mixed YCSB Ops/Sec

    - by Charles Lamb
We ran a set of YCSB performance tests on Oracle NoSQL Database using SSD cards and Intel Xeon E5-2690 CPUs with the goal of achieving 1M mixed ops/sec on a 95% read / 5% update workload. We used the standard YCSB parameters: 13 byte keys and 1KB data size (1,102 bytes after serialization). The maximum database size was 2 billion records, or approximately 2 TB of data. We sized the shards to ensure that this was not an "in-memory" test (i.e. the data portion of the B-Trees did not fit into memory). All updates were durable and used the "simple majority" replica ack policy, effectively 'committing to the network'. All read operations used the Consistency.NONE_REQUIRED parameter allowing reads to be performed on any replica. In the past we have achieved 100K ops/sec using SSD cards on a single shard cluster (replication factor 3) so for this test we used 10 shards on 15 Storage Nodes with each SN carrying 2 Rep Nodes and each RN assigned to its own SSD card. After correcting a scaling problem in YCSB, we blew past the 1M ops/sec mark with 8 shards and proceeded to hit 1.2M ops/sec with 10 shards.  Hardware Configuration We used 15 servers, each configured with two 335 GB SSD cards. We did not have homogeneous CPUs across all 15 servers available to us so 12 of the 15 were Xeon E5-2690, 2.9 GHz, 2 sockets, 32 threads, 193 GB RAM, and the other 3 were Xeon E5-2680, 2.7 GHz, 2 sockets, 32 threads, 193 GB RAM.  There might have been some upside in having all 15 machines configured with the faster CPU, but since CPU was not the limiting factor we don't believe the improvement would be significant. The client machines were Xeon X5670, 2.93 GHz, 2 sockets, 24 threads, 96 GB RAM. Although the clients had 96 GB of RAM, neither the NoSQL Database or YCSB clients require anywhere near that amount of memory and the test could have just easily been run with much less. Networking was all 10GigE. YCSB Scaling Problem We made three modifications to the YCSB benchmark. The first was to allow the test to accommodate more than 2 billion records (effectively int's vs long's). To keep the key size constant, we changed the code to use base 32 for the user ids. The second change involved to the way we run the YCSB client in order to make the test itself horizontally scalable. The basic problem has to do with the way the YCSB test creates its Zipfian distribution of keys which is intended to model "real" loads by generating clusters of key collisions. Unfortunately, the percentage of collisions on the most contentious keys remains the same even as the number of keys in the database increases. As we scale up the load, the number of collisions on those keys increases as well, eventually exceeding the capacity of the single server used for a given key. This is not a workload that is realistic or amenable to horizontal scaling. YCSB does provide alternate key distribution algorithms so this is not a shortcoming of YCSB in general. We decided that a better model would be for the key collisions to be limited to a given YCSB client process. That way, as additional YCSB client processes (i.e. additional load) are added, they each maintain the same number of collisions they encounter themselves, but do not increase the number of collisions on a single key in the entire store. We added client processes proportionally to the number of records in the database (and therefore the number of shards). This change to the use of YCSB better models a use case where new groups of users are likely to access either just their own entries, or entries within their own subgroups, rather than all users showing the same interest in a single global collection of keys. If an application finds every user having the same likelihood of wanting to modify a single global key, that application has no real hope of getting horizontal scaling. Finally, we used read/modify/write (also known as "Compare And Set") style updates during the mixed phase. This uses versioned operations to make sure that no updates are lost. This mode of operation provides better application behavior than the way we have typically run YCSB in the past, and is only practical at scale because we eliminated the shared key collision hotspots. It is also a more realistic testing scenario. To reiterate, all updates used a simple majority replica ack policy making them durable. Scalability Results In the table below, the "KVS Size" column is the number of records with the number of shards and the replication factor. Hence, the first row indicates 400m total records in the NoSQL Database (KV Store), 2 shards, and a replication factor of 3. The "Clients" column indicates the number of YCSB client processes. "Threads" is the number of threads per process with the total number of threads. Hence, 90 threads per YCSB process for a total of 360 threads. The client processes were distributed across 10 client machines. • Use pt-table-sync to setup a new MySQL DB

    - by Generation D Systems
I have 2 hosts (A and B). B contains a MySQL server with a database called mydb, and A contains a MySQL server with nothing (fresh install). I want to replicate the entire mydb from B to A, by running a script on A (I do not have shell access to B). Can I run this on A: pt-table-sync --execute h=b.mydomain.com,D=mydb h=a.mydomain.com I've read the docs but don't get a 100% comfort feeling (perhaps because of all the warnings about damaging your data if you don't know what you're doing). Will this work? as well, is h=a.mydomin.com necessary? (Will it route all traffic back in/out the local NIC?) can I use localhost or nothing at all?

  • College Courses through distance learning

    - by Matt
I realize this isn't really a programming question, but didn't really know where to post this in the stackexchange and because I am a computer science major i thought id ask here. This is pretty unique to the programmer community since my degree is about 95% programming. I have 1 semester left, but i work full time. I would like to finish up in December, but to make things easier i like to take online classes whenever I can. So, my question is does anyone know of any colleges that offer distance learning courses for computer science? I have been searching around and found a few potential classes, but not sure yet. I would like to gather some classes and see what i can get approval for. Class I need: Only need one C SC 437 Geometric Algorithms C SC 445 Algorithms C SC 473 Automata Only need one C SC 452 Operating Systems C SC 453 Compilers/Systems Software While i only need of each of the above courses i still need to take two more electives. These also have to be upper 400 level classes. So i can take multiple in each category. Some other classes I can take are: CSC 447 - Green Computing CSC 425 - Computer Networking CSC 460 - Database Design CSC 466 - Computer Security I hoping to take one or two of these courses over the summer. If not, then online over the regular semester would be ok too. Any help in helping find these classes would be awesome. Maybe you went to a college that offered distance learning. Some of these classes may be considered to be graduate courses too. Descriptions are listed below if you need. Thanks! Descriptions Computer Security This is an introductory course covering the fundamentals of computer security. In particular, the course will cover basic concepts of computer security such as threat models and security policies, and will show how these concepts apply to specific areas such as communication security, software security, operating systems security, network security, web security, and hardware-based security. • How to Get Serial Number or ID of Android Emulator After it Runs?

    - by papalagi
If I run several emulators with -no-window option in one machine. The command "adb devices" shows: List of devices attached emulator-5554 device emulator-5556 device emulator-5558 device ... However, according to this output, I can't tell the difference between each emulator device at all. I need to know which emulator runs on what AVD, then I can install APKs or send commands to the emulator. How can I recognize each emulator device or get the serial number of emulator after it runs?
