• Help deciding on language for a complex desktop - web application

  I'm about to start working on a fairly complex project needing a desktop GUI as well as a web interface and I need to decide on a language(s) to use. This is from an electrical engineering/robotics background. These are the requirements: Program will have to read data from multiple sensors and inputs (motion sensor, temperature sensor, capacitive sensor, infrared, magnetic sensors, etc) through a port on a computer - so either through USB or ethernet. Program will have to be able to send control signals based on this input. Program will have to continuously monitor all input signals at all times - so realtime data. Program will require authentication. Program will need to be controllable from a web interface from anywhere via logging in to a website. Web interface will also need to have realtime feedback once authenticated. What language do you think would best accomplish this? I was thinking maybe saving everything into a database which can be accessed by both the desktop and web app? And would Python be able to do all of this? Or something like a remote desktop app? I know this is a complex project but let's assume I can learn any language. Has anyone done something like this and if so how did you accomplish it?

• List has no value after adding values in

  I am creating a a ghost sprite that will mimic the main sprite after 10 seconds of the game. I am storing the users movements in a List<string> and i am using a foreach loop to run the movements. The problem is when i run through the game by adding breakpoints the movements are being added to the List<string> but when the foreach runs it shows that the list has nothing in it. Why does it do that? • Where does a Quick-Time powered application store changes to the user interface?

  I have downloaded an application written with the Quick Time library (for Windows 7). The application does not need an installation: just unzip it in a directory and run the program. It works, but I have a problem: the program allows the user to change a lot of values using its interface but does not have an option to reset them to their default values. What is more problematic is that when I exit the program and run it again, the interface still has the changed values. In the program directory there is no file that stores the changes done to the UI of the program. I suspect that Quick Time records these changes somewhere, but I can't find the right file. I have even deleted the application and re-unzipped it to another location - but the UI values still remain the same values changed by me!

• Modern OpenGL context failure [migrated]

  OK, I managed to create an OpenGL context with wglcreatecontextattribARB with version 3.2 in my attrib struct (So I have initialized a 3.2 opengl context). It works, but the strange thing is, when I use glBindBuffer e,g. I still get unreferenced linker error, shouldn't a newer context prevent this? I'm on windows BTW, Linux doesn't have to deal with older and newer contexts (it directly supports the core of its version). • Would having an undergraduate certificate in Computer Science help me get employed as a computer programmer? [on hold]

  I am wondering how would employers perceive the Universtiy Certificate in Computing and Information Systems offered by Athabasca University (a distance education institution... The university is legit and accredited by the Government of Alberta, Canada). I already have a BSc in Statistics from University of Alberta (a classic brick and mortar public university in Alberta, Canada)...so I can state in my resume that I have a "university degree"..... Luckily, I was able to secure a very good employment in my field after the graduation from the U of A. The main reason why I am interested in taking the certificate program through Athabasca is because knowing how to program can increase the chance for promotion in my current job. I also believe that if something turns out bad in my current job and if I ever need to look for a new place to work, having the certificate in computer science will help me get employed as a computer programmer (i.e. my choice for the new job wouldn't be restricted to the field of Statistics). Athabasca University is claiming that the certificate program is meant to be equivalent to the undergraduate minor in computing science. I carefully looked at the certificate's curriculum and as far as I am concerned, the certificate program does have the same level of rigour as the undergraduate minor in Computer Science programs offered by other Canadian universities. I am also confident that the certificate program will get me to pick up enough skills/background to start a career as a computer programmer. The reasons why I am not 100% sure on getting the certificate is worth the tuition are: Athabasca University is a distance education institution (accredited by government but still) The credential that I will receive is "university certificate", not a "undergraduate degree" Do you think it's a good idea for me to pursue the certificate, given the two facts above? again, I already have my Bachelor's degree - although it is not in CS Thanks,

  i make something by wrong... when i right click into .exe file then choose OPEN with and i select choose a program then i select wrong program to open with... then i checked the checkBox that have the label [Always use the selected program to open this kind of file]... The Problem??? All .exe file changed into the wrong program i select it-- so all .exe file opened with this program... My Question?? HOW to get back all .exe file to the regular work..?? and thanks in advance :)

• gfortran in ubuntu 12.10

  I hope my message will get read soon and somebody will give me a solution. I use fortran to do simulation and gfortran is the compiler I use. Recently I migrated from Ubuntu 10.10 to 12.10. After installing gfortran then I tried to compile and run my fortran programs then the problem started. I successfully compiled the program but I am unable to execute it. (I work in a directory in shared partition, not in HOME directory). When I compiled the program and run it within HOME directory, everything worked fine. On my Ubuntu 10.10, I was able to compile and execute fortran program from everywhere not only within HOME directory. This is what I do for compiling and executing fortran program: gfortran hello.f90 -o hello # to compile it ./hello # to execute it I'm blind about PATH or anything like it (this has to do with it, I suspect) so please give me direction.

  I am getting this unhandled exception error shown: See screen shot. I am getting this error only when I run with Ctrl+ F5 and not in F5(debug mode).Not sure if this is helpful,my computer is a windows 7- 64bit and running a 32 bit build According to this discussion: How can I get WinForms to stop silently ignoring unhandled exceptions?, Adding Application.SetUnhandledExceptionMode(UnhandledExceptionMode.ThrowException) iwll cause Windows to ignore the error. • How to update a uniform variable in GLSL

  Hi All, I am trying to get update the eye position in my shader from my appliaction but I keep getting error 1281 when I attempt this. I have no problems after the initialization just when i subsequently try to update the values.
