  • Cannot access windows share folder

    In my windows domain, there's been happening a problem with the access to some of our shared folders: There appears a "the account is disabled" problem whe trying to access those. When looking at the the Active Directory Groups and Users snap-in, there's no user blocked nor disabled and the users trying to access the shared folders don't have any problem logging in on their respective computers. Needless to say, they have proper permissions on the network shares to be accessed. What might be the problem?

  • No external network on ubuntu 9.10, though dns works..

    Hi, I have a weird problem I cant solve. I have several computers, two with xubuntu 9.10 One of them, acting as a media server, has stopped to work when it comes to external network.. I can do for example: ping google.com Which gives me an ip adress back, like: name@Media:/etc$ ping google.com PING google.com (66.102.9.147) 56(84) bytes of data. That tells me it reaches the dns?, but I get no response at all... If I ping a local computer all works fine. I can also reach the computer via ssh without any problems. I have always used network manager, but now I uninstalled it and made the settings manually like this: /etc/network/interfaces auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.52 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.1.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 gateway 192.168.1.1 Still no luck. I have no specific settings for this one in my router, and all the other computers, including my win laptop works fine.     Givens: disk is cheap, and there's plenty lying around on various computers around the corporate intranet redundant contiguous large storage volumes are expensive Problem: It would be fantastic to have a single entry point (drive letter, network path) that presents all this space as one contiguous filesystem, effectively abstracting the disk and network architecture from the paths presented to users. Does anyone know how to implement such a solution? I'm open to Windows and non-windows solutions, free and proprietary.

  • Branch office unable to resolve DNS names

    Environment - MS Server 2003 AD Domain, XP computers at Branch office connected by VPN back to main office. T IP Traffic to the internet and internally is relatively stable, but the in-house application has been buggy, and dropping connections. Users report "slowness" DNS Name resolution might be the culprit or a symptom, I cannot ping workstations at the main office by name, but can ping their IP Address... Any ideas?

  • Quick method to determine SSD drive health?

    I have an Intel X-25M drive that was marked "failed" twice in a ZFS storage array, as noted here. However, after removing the drive, it seems to to mount, read and write in other computers (Mac, PC, USB enclosure, etc.) Is there a good way to determine the drive's present health? I feel that the previous failure in the ZFS solution was the convergence of bugs, bad error reporting and hardware. It seems like this drive may have some life in it, though.

  • Can a windows virus downloaded in linux be transferred to windows?

    I know that linux is mostly safe from viruses, however: if you do download a windows virus (i.e., through a drive-by download), will it just sit there on your computer, and take up space? Is it unable to infect files because of the different operating system? If you transfer files between computers (by using a usb flash drive or through online file sharing), is there any risk that the virus could be transferred to windows and activate?

  • Dual boot, win7 & ubuntu. Gparted, resize not move. Performance?

    I installed dual boot on a computer that already had win7 installed. The question here is about gparted ability to move partitions. I made place for ubuntu in the computers "Data" partition, by resizing it. But I canceled the "move" action. Was that incredibly stupid, or is this care? Maybe performance is affected. Can this effect the hd's lifespan? The computer is UL30A.

My first idea was to just create login/logout scripts that contact a server, but the problem is since these scripts would run as the current user, that they would then be able to run this script outside of these two occasions.   • Is it possible to expose data from Oracle using OData?

    From my personal research, it appears that OData implementations depend extensively on MS Entity framework. It would seem possible to implement the OData producer protocol using an open ORM like NHibernate in C# or Hibernate in Java. In the best of all worlds, it would be cool to expose data using OData protocol from Oracle. I am open to other open solutions like Java, JRuby, etc. Thanks in advance for your time.

  • ASP.NET make a panel visible on click of hyperlink (whilst also cuasing postback for page navigation

    I may be asking the impossible but let me set out my problem: I have a menu in a MasterPage which uses images and mouseover mouseout events for design purposes. On one of the menu options I need to display a set of sub menus options on the click of the parent menu item. The menu item itself also needs to navigate to a specified url. I was originally trying to use an AJAX accordion panel but as I only had one accordion panel it was always displaying the sub menu items and was not collapsing. I have also tried putting the options in a div and setting the display via javascript. This worked but then was overwritten once the page navigation postback occurred.     I'm a limited user, and I need to write an Outlook macro that exposes a C# library in Outlook 2003 and 2007. I do not have any admin privilges at all, not even at install time, so I can't run RegAsm and I can't (I assume) write a managed add-in. Is there any way to call .Net code from VBA in this scenario, or are there any other solutions? This is for personal use only, so an ugly hack is perfectly acceptable (so long as it works)

    hi I am using Repository factory for visual studio 2008 for a personal project. It generated a class called ProductRepository which inherits from Repository. The ProductRepository has a constructor which gets a database name as string and passes it to its base (I mean Repository ). So when I try to debug my project step by step, I pass my database name to ProductRepository but it raises the following error: The requested database is not defined in configuration. What's wrong?
