  • Resolving CloudFlare DNS related mail delivery problems

    I recently started using CloudFlare and am having a few teething problems. Our domain is netlanguages.com and while we have a lot of sub-domains listen, we are currently only trialling a few of the servers through the CloudFlare CDN (for example, www.netlanguages.com is enabled for CDN, netlanguages.com is not). The actual CDN service seems to be reliable, but the problem that we are having is with DNS, and specifically with mail delivery. The background is that we have contact forms on our web site which use PHP mail() to send the details to end-users' email addresses, with the "from" address of the messages being [email protected] which is a valid address on our mail server. Most of the mails are arriving correctly, but a few specific people are not receiving them. The webserver uses qmail to deliver the messages, and the qmail log files show us some of the errors that the receiving mail servers return when they reject the mail delivery attempt. Two examples: Connected to 94.100.176.20 but sender was rejected./Remote host said: 421 DNS problem (interdominios.netlanguages.com). Try again later Connected to 213.186.33.29 but sender was rejected./Remote host said: 451 DNS temporary failure (#4.3.0) From what I can tell, the receiving SMTP server is doing a DNS lookup of some description on either the host of the "from" email address (netlanguages.com) or the server name given in the EHLO command of the SMTP conversation (in the first example above, interdominios.netlanguages.com), both of which should resolve to non-CloudFlare IP addresses. I've read that the CloudFlare DNS service is very reliable and fast but both of the problems above seem to point to a problem with remote servers unable to do DNS lookups. I should also point out that we changed our DNS to CloudFlare on 6th Feb, and since then started experiencing these mail delivery problems. On 22nd Feb we moved our DNS away from CloudFlare to see if the issues were related to CloudFlare and after a few hours delivery began to work. Then on 26th Feb I moved the DNS back to CloudFlare again and delivery problems started again. The issues definitely seems to be related to DNS, but I don't know if it's a configuration issue, or something else. Finally, I should say that our two DNS MX records point to non-CDN A record IP addresses, interdominios.netlanguages.com (the web and qmail server) also points to a non-CDN A record IP address. Does anyone know what the problem could be here? Any light you can shed on this will be most appreciated. Many thanks, Andy

  • How do you keep track of what's connected to your switches?

    Currently we manually document the connections to the ports of our switches. Of course, maintenance is a chore, and the documentation is out of date as soon as you save it. Are there any tools for querying switches, preferably via SNMP, that can tell you what is connected on the other end? For the record, we use primarily HP ProCurve switches.

  • IIS 502 error when using a CNAME

    I have a cname record to a dyndns address. This has worked fine in the past, but now if I use the cname error I get a 502 error from IIS 7. The dyndns address works fine and so does the actual ip address. Any ideas on what would cause this?

  • DNS Problems (NIGHTMARES!) with BIND and Virtualmin

    I have a webserver (Ubuntu 12.04 with LAMP) using Virtualmin / Webmin. Because I just moved from a Cpanel system, I am having a nightmare configuring the DNS! Using intoDNS.com, the failed reports are: Mismatched NS records WARNING: One or more of your nameservers did not return any of your NS records. DNS servers responded ERROR: One or more of your nameservers did not respond: The ones that did not respond are: 123.123.123.123 213.251.188.141x Multiple Nameservers ERROR: Looks like you have less than 2 nameservers. According to RFC2182 section 5 you must have at least 3 nameservers, and no more than 7. Having 2 nameservers is also ok by me. Missing nameservers reported by your nameserver You should already know that your NS records at your nameservers are missing, so here it is again: ns1.mydomain.com. sdns2.ovh.net. SOA record No valid SOA record came back! MX Records WWW A Record ERROR: I could not get any A records for www.mydomain.com! Step-by-Step of my Attempt In my domain registrar (Namecheap), I registered ns1.mydomain.com as a nameserver, pointing to the IP address of my web server which is running bind9. The domain is setup with DNS ns1.mydomain.com and sdns2.ovh.net. sdns2.ovh.net is a secondary DNS server (SLAVE and pointing mydomain.com to the IP address of my web server) Webserver domain: mydomain.com Webserver hostname: ns4000000.ip-123-123-123.net Webserver IP: 123.123.123.123 Under Virtualmin, I edited the default Virtual server template, BIND DNS records for new domains: ns1.mydomain.com Master DNS server hostname: ns1.mydomain.com Next I created a Virtual server using that server template.   • Ubuntu 9.10: how do I troubleshoot a startup script that doesn't appear to run?

    I've created a bash script 'foo'. I've made that script executable with chmod+x and added it the the start-up by running sudo update-rc.d foo defaults 80 Despite that, it doesn't appear to be working at startup. Is there a way to have my script echo messages to a log? Or is there some log that would record events/errors for this? atm, I feel like I'm flying blind and don't really know how to troubleshoot this.

  • Is it possible to remove constant "beep" sound from recording?

    Whenever I record with my microphone, I get this constant beep sound on the background. It appears only when I turn volume up, so it is not very loud, but its noticable and pretty annoying. Because it is constant sound, I thought it should be possible to filter just that one frequency, but I have absolutely no idea how to do it.

    here is how posterous works, I make a A record of DNS of my domain (blog.mydomainname.com) to posterous IP address 67.207.139.81 , in the manage panel of posterous , i put my custom domain (blog.meetingly.com). Then i can reach my posterous blog http://mydomainname.posterous.com from http://blog.mydomainname.com url. How posterous implements this? Is this a DNS level thing or web server level setting?   • Remove key from known_hosts

    Hi, I have built several virtual machines during the last few weeks. The problem is, the .ssh/known_hosts gives me the Man in the middle warning. This happens because another fingerprint is associated with the virtual machine IP. In the .ssh/known_hosts file, however, I don't seem to find the record related to the IP, only two bizarre, key-like strings and "ssh-rsa". Any ideas how to remove the old key from known_hosts?   • Forcing authentication for local domains

    Today I mentioned strange issue on my ispconfig 3 installation. After some debugging it was clear that anyone can send emails to local domains without authentication. I checked main.cf and sow that smtp_senders_restriction pointing to mail_access table in ispconfig database. The issue is that table is empty and I'm not sure how to add record there through ispconfig interface. Any thoughts?? Thanks in advance.

  • Why does my mail get marked as spam?

    I Have the server "afspraakmanager.be". It matches everything not to be a spam server.(it isn't by the way): it has reverse dns, spf,dkim,... . But hotmail marks it as spam.   • my laptop wireless registers as 169.254.111.111

    I sometimes gets an ip address of 169.254.111.111 received for my laptop (instead of one in the 10.0.0.x range). I thought it was a problem with my Ubuntu system, but after I dual-booted I got the same problem under Windows Vista with the same laptop. What's the problem, why does it happens only sometimes, and how can it be solved? For the record: I'm using a Linksys WRT610N wireless router.

  • Media Center keeps re-recording movies (not listed in "Series")

    When I record a movie in Windows Media Center, it records it again every time it shows up in the Guide listings again - days, weeks, or months later. The movies are not listed as a Series (Recorded TV - Schedules - Series). I found many matches for this problem on Google, and no solutions. Windows XP SP3 w/all current updates; MCE 2005 w/all current updates.
