  We have 3x ESX hosts and 2x SANS that we wish to move to a redundant 10G networking infrastructure. We have 4x Dell PowerConnect 8024F's to provide our backbone and are configured as so (only core switches relevant to this question): So the questions are: 1) Do the interconnects between the 4x 8024F's need to be LAG'd or just STP'd 2) As the NICs on the servers are split across 2 switches, does any special configuration need to be done here or on the switches? 3) If a link or switch fails will the switches automatically find a new path to the Server/SAN?

• Is there a way to remove duplicate emails from a remote account?

  I have a user who has multiple duplicated emails across multiple folders on his IMAP account. How he managed to create them is beyond me, but mine is not to reason why, just to fix it! Can anyone recommend an application that I may use to remove the duplicates. (we're talking mailboxes in excess of 9G, and it's a remote server) I don't mind what OS I have to use to clean up the mailbox, I'm just looking for some recommendations. Thanks

• Windows Server 2008 R2 DFS Root Namespace Required?

  I would prefer to set up our DFS such as: \domain.local\users \domain.local\customers \domain.local\support etc. Is this a problem? Do I need to instead set all of the above folders as targets under a root such as: \domain.local\files\users \domain.local\files\customers \domain.local\files\support Other than the path being shorter in the top example, which is what I would prefer, is there a difference in functionality in Windows DFS between the two examples shown? • Keeping folder display the same as it was left

  In Word 2007 (and also on previous versions I have used), when I open folders, they open with icons or a list. I like 'detail' display and change it to that. I like detail because I can see which file is most recent and the size. But the next time I open the same folder, it opens back to icons or list but not details. How can I get it to stay where I left it? Thanks.

• How can make rsync use sudo

  I use rsync to mirror a number of folders on our failover server. However, some of our files, such as thumbnails or full-text indexes, are generated by our applications under the web user (named 'nobody'), and default to restrictive permissions. Also, I'm doing this over ssh, where root access is disabled, and I'd like to keep it that way, if possible. Is there any reasonable way I can tell rsync to run as sudo? Or should I look into changing the file permissions? Thanks

• Permissions changed after Mail.app and associated data crash

  Hi there, I experienced a major Mail.app crash on Snow Leopard couple of days ago. It took me hours to be able to make the folder structure usable again by Mail. I changed permissions back to 755 for all subfolders starting from and including ~/Library/Mail Mail now works again but settings such as folder order in the left side bar and mail ordered by date in some folders don't persist anymore. Any idea? Thxs for help

  I like how Windows 7 (and Vista) have the convenient 'New Folder' button. Is it possible to have a similar 'New File' button. If it creates a file and then automatically triggers the renaming action so you can rename the file, that would be perfect. I know it is possible for certain file types to have special actions assigned, but not just for a generic directory.

• Pinta crashes on load in Windows 7 x64 Home Premium

  Unfortunately I can't really give much more information unless anybody can suggest where I should look for logs or dumps etc? Simply put, when I load the program I immediately get the error "Pinta Has Stopped Working". I have tried: Running as administrator Installing to different partitions Installing to folders with no spaces in directory structure I have installed the GTK# for .Net 2.12.9 as required in order to install Pinta.   So originally my host (mediatemple dv) has two default directories for the roots: 1)httpdocs/ 2)httpsdocs/ In the conf directory I changed the vhosts.conf and httpd.include and others to change from httpdocs to custom folders. Now I installed a new ssl certificate and https://example.com goes to the default page located at httpsdocs. I'm just wondering where configurations for apache are stored for ssl. Ideas?

  I know in TextMate I can go to preferences - advanced - folder references and play with the regex pattern to remove certain types of files and folders by default. I heard that if you have an existing project, however, and chance these, the project is not affected. From a similar but different angle, I am interested to know if I can exclude certain types of files, say anything named "index.html" from an existing project while not changing the global scope. • What is the netmask equivalent on the verision of route for the Mac

  In order to create some special routes for debugging I used the following command on my linux server: sudo route add -net 10.78.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 gw 10.101.1.1 which works, and sets up the routes I need. But when I run the same command on my Mac I get: route: bad address: netmask I'm guessing that the version of route that is included in OS X requires a different format but I'm at a loss to figure it out.

  I was always thought to use internal domain name (company.local or company.corp) for Active Directory instead of (company.com or company.pl). Recently we were thinking that by using external domain name we can get some advantages for stuff like certificates for Exchange, Sharepoint and alike where internal and external name would be exactly the same making it unnecessary to buy special certificates. What are advantages and disadvantages for both? What could be potential problem when doing so and what could be a big advantage?
