  • Problems building nodejs on MacOS Snow Leopard

    - by mrwooster
I am having trouble building nodejs on MacOS Snow Leopard. I think it might have something to do with my PATH variable not being set correctly for the developer tools location. For some reason, the Developer tools (gcc, g++, make etc) are all stored in /Developer/usr/bin I added it to my PATH variable as follows: $ export PATH=$PATH:/Developer/usr/bin $ echo $PATH /opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/git/bin:/usr/X11/bin:/Developer/usr/bin When i try to configure it complains about not finding open-ssl, ok, not a big problem. So I try with --without-ssl : $ ./configure --without-ssl Checking for program g++ or c++ : /Developer/usr/bin/g++ Checking for program cpp : /Developer/usr/bin/cpp Checking for program ar : /usr/bin/ar Checking for program ranlib : /Developer/usr/bin/ranlib Checking for g++ : ok Checking for program gcc or cc : /Developer/usr/bin/gcc Checking for gcc : ok Checking for library dl : yes Checking for library util : yes Checking for library rt : not found --- libeio --- Checking for library pthread : yes Checking for function pthread_create : not found /Users/Guy/git_src/node/node/deps/libeio/wscript:13: error: the configuration failed (see '/Users/Guy/git_src/node/node/build/config.log') Anyone know how I can get round this? I am suspicious that it might be something to do with the PATH or another ENV variable, but not sure. Thanks G

  • JAWStats statspath error on windows

    - by crosenblum
I have AWStats which works fine, and JAWStats I am trying to get working. I have tried back and forward slashes to get the program to read the dirdata files. I even moved the folder of dirdata outside of program files folder, in case it had problems with folder names with spaces in them. Here is my config file. // core config parameters $sConfigDefaultView = "thismonth.all"; $bConfigChangeSites = true; $bConfigUpdateSites = true; $sUpdateSiteFilename = "xml_update.php"; // individual site configuration // awstats092012.noname.jumpingcrab.com.txt $aConfig["site1"] = array( "statspath" => "C:\\Program Files\\AWStats\\DirData\\", "statsname" => "awstats[MM][YYYY].yourexample.com.txt", "updatepath" => "C:\\Program Files\\AWStats\\wwwroot\\cgi-bin\\awstats.pl\\", "siteurl" => "http://yourexample.com", "theme" => "default", "fadespeed" => 250, "password" => "", "includes" => "" ); Domain names changed to protect the innocent...:P Here is the error message: An error has occured: No AWStats Log Files Found JAWStats cannot find any AWStats log files in the specified directory: C:\Program Files\AWStats\DirData\ Is this the correct folder? Is your config name, site1, correct? Please refer to the installation instructions for more information.

  • How to change start menu location for Windows 7 Programs

    - by user30994
I keep my start menu in Windows 7 very organized, but every time there's a program update available (Safari for example), the program recreates its shortcut icons in the default start menu location for that program (Safari, for example, recreates start menu short icons in "Start Menu\All Programs\Safari"). So, every time I update a program I have to move it's start menu icons again to keep them organized the way I like. Some programs ask where I would like the start menu icon placed, and that works fine, but for the programs that don't ask... Is there a way to set a default start menu location for programs so that when I update, the shortcuts are placed in the folders I want them to be at? (Safari for example I keep in "Start Menu\All Programs\Web Browsers\Safari.lnk")

  • Nervous about the "real" world

    - by Randy
I am currently majoring in Computer Science and minoring in mathematics (the minor is embedded in the major). The program has a strong C++ curriculum. We have done some UNIX and assembly language (not fun) and there is C and Java on the way in future classes that I must take. The program I am in did not use the STL, but rather a STL-ish design that was created from the ground up for the program. From what I have read on, the STL and what I have taken are very similar but what I used seemed more user friendly. Some of the programs that I had to write in C++ for assignments include: a password server that utilized hashing of the passwords for security purposes, a router simulator that used a hash table and maps, a maze solver that used depth first search, a tree traveler program that traversed a tree using levelorder, postorder, inorder, selection sort, insertion sort, bit sort, radix sort, merge sort, heap sort, quick sort, topological sort, stacks, queues, priority queues, and my least favorite, red-black trees. All of this was done in three semesters which was just enough time to code them up and turn them in. That being said, if I was told to use a stack to convert an equation to infix notation or something, I would be lost for a few hours. My main concern in writing this is when I graduate and land an interview, what are some of the questions posed to assess my skills? What are some of the most important areas of computer science that are prevalent in the field? I am currently trying to get some ideas of programs I can write in C++ that interest and challenge me to keep learning the language. A sodoku solver came to mind but am lost as to where to start. I apologize for the rant, but I'm just a wee bit nervous about the future. Any tips are appreciated.

  • Free or Open Solution for Storing and Charting CSV data

    - by rrrfusco
I'm presently storing CSV files, combining them, opening them in open office, creating pivot tables and then generating charts from the spreadsheet. I've looked at OOBase, but appending csv files to base is clunky for some reason. SQLite seems like a good database solution, but I've haven't found a good charting program that connects to it with ease. Although open office (or libreoffice) maintains the references and allows you to update the information, this process is far from efficient. There are too many steps and it seems one program should handle all of these tasks. A better program would be more intuitive, allow you to simply add inserts into a database, and include an interface for standard charting settings. EDIT Simplest Automated Analysis and Chart Generation Tool? The above answer references Spotfire and Tableau, each of which has a free 14 and 30 day trial. Each program is nicely streamlined and designed. I'm looking for a program between this quality and LibreOffice. Can you recommend a better open or free desktop solution for windows?

  • How can I run the pixel shader effect?

    - by Yashwinder
    Stated below is the code for my pixel shader which I am rendering after the vertex shader. I have set the wordViewProjection matrix in my program but I don't know to set the progress variable i.e in my pixel shader file which will make the image displayed by the help of a quad to give out transition effect. Here is the code for my pixel shader program::: As my pixel shader is giving a static effect and now I want to use it to give some effect. So for this I have to add a progress variable in my pixel shader and initialize to the Constant table function i.e constantTable.SetValue(D3DDevice,"progress",progress ); I am having the problem in using this function for progress in my program. Anybody know how to set this variable in my program. And my new pixel shader code is float progress : register(C0); sampler2D implicitInput : register(s0); sampler2D oldInput : register(s1); struct VS_OUTPUT { float4 Position : POSITION; float4 Color : COLOR0; float2 UV : TEXCOORD 0; }; float4 Blinds(float2 uv) { if(frac(uv.y * 5) < progress) { return tex2D(implicitInput, uv); } else { return tex2D(oldInput, uv); } } // Pixel Shader { return Blinds(input.UV); }

  • Core i7 on linux loses its multithreading capability after suspend

    - by rafak
On my debian-linux system, with a core i7 920 , each time I resume after the command "pm-suspend" (suspend to RAM), mutlithreading capabilities almost disappear. More specifically, two distinct programs can use 2 distinct cores at full rate, but a single program is limited to only one core (for one instance of a multithreaded program as well as multiple instances of a monothreaded program, e.g. "make -j 4" for gcc). So I end up rebooting the system. Any help appreciated!

  • Modular programming is the method of programming small task or programs

Modular programming is the method of programming small task or sub-programs that can be arranged in multiple variations to perform desired results. This methodology is great for preventing errors due to the fact that each task executes a specific process and can be debugged individually or within a larger program when combined with other tasks or sub programs. C# is a great example of how to implement modular programming because it allows for functions, methods, classes and objects to be use to create smaller sub programs. A program can be built from smaller pieces of code which saves development time and reduces the chance of errors because it is easier to test a small class or function for a simple solutions compared to testing a full program which has layers and layers of small programs working together.Yes, it is possible to write the same program using modular and non modular programming, but it is not recommend it. When you deal with non modular programs, they tend to contain a lot of spaghetti code which can be a pain to develop and not to mention debug especially if you did not write the code. In addition, in my experience they seem to have a lot more hidden bugs which waste debugging and development time. Modular programming methodology in comparision to non-mondular should be used when ever possible due to the use of small components. These small components allow business logic to be reused and is easier to maintain. From the user’s view point, they cannot really tell if the code is modular or not with today’s computers.

  • Windows CE restores default configuration after restart (Motorola MC3190)

    - by jarek
Good morning, everyone! I have a problem with Motorola MC3190 hand scanner running on Windows CE. I've got few of those to make a new program for some kind of warehouse. There is already installed program which have been used by the customers before, so I delete this one and instead I install my new software which I've just made. It is running very well, but when I take out the battery and leave the device for entire night without power supply, it restores the whole configuration, so the old program is back, the wireless configuration is back and... Yeah. The scanner is restored to the configuration which was running when I received it few weeks ago. What I want to do is to set the whole configuration of the scanner so after a long power-off my program and my configuration will be restored. I truly believe someone knows how to do it. The time is running out, and I believe that the customer will be kind of annoyed when he will change the battery and the program which he bought will be gone. ;-) Regards, Jarek

  • yum / rpm / make | When to use which one

    - by Saif Bechan
I am new to Linux and am running CentOs. When I want to update or install certain software I came across three ways. Sometimes it's: yum install program rpm -i program.rpm wget program.tar.gz unpack ./configure make make install That last one is a real pain, esp when you come from windows where a program install is usually one click and then a nice guide. Now can someone please explain to me: Why are there so many different ways to do this? Which one do you recommend to use and why? Are there any other ways for installing programs?

  • "Integratable" but not "integrated" GPL

    - by mgibsonbr
There has been much debate over whether or not merely linking to a piece of code makes it a derivative work. I know FSF says "yes", so according to them I can't dynamically link a non-GPL compatible program to a GPL library and distribute the whole. But I could do that for private use, as long as no code is released to the public. That made me wonder: what if I don't redistribute the GPL code at all? If my program can work alone (reinforcing my claim that it's not a derivative work), but can do more if the GPL library is also installed to the system, couldn't I just release my application under my own licensing terms - without including any GPL code - and post instructions for anyone interested to separately download the GPL code and do the integration "for their private use"? I know it's against the "spirit" of the GPL, so I'm not suggesting it's a good idea to do that. However, this question is bugging me for some time, specially because of the implications of each answer: If I can not do that: can I write another library with a similar API? (before answering "of course you can", remember that having the same API would allow both libraries to be swapped at will by my customers - so I don't need to work too hard on my library or even make it "working". How to determine if a similar program is just similar or is a circumvention attempt?) If I can do that: can I also be paid to perform the service of installing the GPL library for a customer? (I sell them my program, install it in their machines, download and install the GPL library too) can I put the two programs in the same website? In two different CDs? (I know I said the idea was not to redistribute the GPL code, I'm just thinking in excuses people could use to claim they're not redistributing even though they are)

  • GnuPG Command Line - Verifying KeePass Signature

    - by Stisfa
I'm trying to verify the PGP Signature of the latest version of KeePass 2.14's setup file against this signature, but this is the output I receive: C:\Program Files (x86)\GNU\GnuPG>gpg.exe --verify C:\Users\User\Desktop\KeePass-2.14-Setup.exe gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found. gpg: the signature could not be verified. Please remember that the signature file (.sig or .asc) should be the first file given on the command line. C:\Program Files (x86)\GNU\GnuPG> I found this command here, but it made no mention about ".sig" or ".asc" files, so I figured I did something wrong. By reading (http://www.gnupg.org/documentation/manuals/gnupg/gpgv.html#gpgv), I further tried the following: C:\Program Files (x86)\GNU\GnuPG>gpg.exe --pgpfile C:\Users\User\Desktop\KeePass-2.14-Setup.exe gpg: Invalid option "--pgpfile" C:\Program Files (x86)\GNU\GnuPG> As you can see, the results are quite obfuscating... I took a look at this on SuperUser (http://superuser.com/questions/16160/short-easy-to-understand-explanation-of-gpg-pgp-for-nontechnical-people - I couldn't use "a href" due to the built in spam filter that discriminates against users with < 10 rep; this is the same reason for the link above this link), but none of the links seemed to really address my question, at least not directly enough for me to get any idea on how to move forward on this. Can anybody here help me with the esoteric technicality of OpenPGP & the associated use of the GnuPG program? I've felt pretty dumb learning VBS, but this is beyond humiliating: it's absolutely debilitating and maiming whatever confidence I had with my IT skills (then again, I have no justification for making any boast either, as I have yet to get my A+ Cert, lol).

  • MySQL taking a long time to start

    - by Dscoduc
I'm running Windows Server 2008 with MySQL installed and every time I reboot the server the MySQL Service doesn't start right away. A look into the Windows Eventlog shows that the MySQL Service was hung at startup. Looking at the Services.msc console shows the service state at Starting... Eventually, like 10 minutes, the MySQL Service actually finishes the startup process and the database becomes available for my Wordpress server... I looked at the MySQL .err files and didn't find anything that would indicate a delay in the statup process... Can anyone suggest a way to determine what is causing the delay, and more importantly, how to prevent the delay in the MySQL Startup? UPDATE: Here is the .err log contents from the shutdown to the startup complete. Notice the startup begins at 10:30:00 and the MySQL isn't ready for connections until 10:47:14, a full 17 minutes later: 100322 10:27:06 [Note] C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqld: Normal shutdown 100322 10:27:06 [Note] Event Scheduler: Purging the queue. 0 events 100322 10:27:06 InnoDB: Starting shutdown... 100322 10:27:08 InnoDB: Shutdown completed; log sequence number 4 3854351346 100322 10:27:08 [Warning] Forcing shutdown of 1 plugins 100322 10:27:08 [Note] C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqld: Shutdown complete 100322 10:30:00 [Note] Plugin 'FEDERATED' is disabled. 100322 10:30:01 InnoDB: Started; log sequence number 4 3854351346 100322 10:47:14 [Note] Event Scheduler: Loaded 0 events 100322 10:47:14 [Note] C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqld: ready for connections. • How to find out if my IIS is x64 or x86?

    - by PaparazzoKid
As the title reads, I'm about to download and install URL Rewrite Go Live extension on my Windows Server 2008 R2 dedicated server, and I need to find out which version of URL Rewrite I should be downloading, x64 or x86. The information that came with the server when I started to rent it said it was 64-bit but when I look at my C: directory I have two Program Files directories, one titled "Program Files" and the other "Program Files (86)" - so this has confused me somewhat. Can anybody suggest how to find this out?

  • How can I fix the "TERM environment variable not set" warning in eclipse

    - by Robert
I'm running ubuntu 12.04 LTS and working with eclipse (juno) on a c++ project. I keep getting "TERM environment variable not set" in the console while trying to run the program. I realize this means the variable needs to get set. My question is what should it be set to and how do I set it? I've read that it should be 'xterm' in a few places. So I added export TERM=xterm in my .profile and while eclipse stopped giving me the warning, instead it would output unreadable garbage everynow and then (not a side effect of the program). It did display the program output but intermixed were weird characters. This leads me to believe it's not 'xterm' I should be setting TERM to. Or I'm setting it in an incorrect way. Any help is appreciated. Sample output: **TERM environment variable not set.** Please make a selection ----------------------- 1. Create a budget 2. Edit a budget 3. Display a budget 4. Save a budget 5. Load a budget 6. Exit What is your selection: 1 **TERM environment variable not set.** Enter the name of your budget: etc The program continues to execute as expected but the message is highly annoying As someone has commented, I do use system("clear") which is likely the source of the warning? Either way, is this likely just an eclipse issue or something I can fix in ubuntu/linux

  • Dump output from REPL

    - by Ankit Soni
I'm writing SML programs, and I'd like a way to quickly see the output from running a program in the REPL without actually running the REPL (to quickly see if a program has syntax errors - I plan to use this as a make program for .sml files in vim to view the output inside vim).. Currently, I have this: sml file.sml | echo -e "\004" So it runs the program, and then echoes Ctrl-D to exit the REPL. The problem is that its too quick to send the Ctrl-D key, so there is no output. I tried this too: sml file.sml | sleep 2 ; echo -e "\004" But that isn't doing it either. Any ideas on how I can get a dump of the output from the REPL?

  • Could my 64-bit server be somehow identifying itself as a 32-bit server?

    - by Deane
Has anyone ever heard of a 64-bit OS identifying itself as a 32-bit OS? We have a Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 development server. We've been trying to activate it with a product key from MSDN, but it keeps telling us the the key is invalid. I've opened a ticket with MSDN for this. Then something odd happened -- I tried to install a 64-bit version of SQL Server 2005. After it extracted, we got this message: This version of hotfix.exe is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program... Now, we're pretty sure this is a 64-bit OS. Computer Properties says: System Type: 64-bit Operating System Also, we have both a "Program Files" and a "Program Files (x64)" directory. I don't know how the product key activator or the SQL install program attempts to divine the type of OS, but could it be...wrong?

One event log error I keep getting is the following: (note all the Office errors are event id 1000) Faulting application name: OUTLOOK.EXE, version: 12.0.6539.5000, time stamp: 0x4c12486d Faulting module name: EMSMDB32.DLL, version: 12.0.6539.5000, time stamp: 0x4c1246f8 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x0005d8e2 Faulting process id: 0xf6c Faulting application start time: 0x01cb6633f33384f3 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\OUTLOOK.EXE Faulting module path: c:\progra~2\micros~1\office12\EMSMDB32.DLL Report Id: 0d4a2eab-d231-11df-80a0-4061868f5d10 I also get this: Faulting application name: OUTLOOK.EXE, version: 12.0.6539.5000, time stamp: 0x4c12486d Faulting module name: olmapi32.dll, version: 12.0.6538.5000, time stamp: 0x4bfc6ad9 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x002357a9 Faulting process id: 0x5e4 Faulting application start time: 0x01cb661f4546aa77 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\OUTLOOK.EXE Faulting module path: c:\progra~2\micros~1\office12\olmapi32.dll Report Id: a4a90658-d224-11df-80a0-4061868f5d10 The Excel error is this: Faulting application name: EXCEL.EXE, version: 12.0.6535.5002, time stamp: 0x4bd2a7f1 Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bdbdf Exception code: 0xe06d7363 Fault offset: 0x0000b727 Faulting process id: 0x14a8 Faulting application start time: 0x01cb61ab7bc0abab Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE Faulting module path: C:\Windows\syswow64\KERNELBASE.dll Report Id: ba0c454b-cd9e-11df-80a0-4061868f5d10 Also have gotten this for PowerPoint: Faulting application name: POWERPNT.EXE, version: 12.0.6500.5000, time stamp: 0x49a68f9d Faulting module name: COMShim.dll, version: 2010.3.325.110, time stamp: 0x4c51e0b1 Exception code: 0x40000015 Fault offset: 0x0001e388 Faulting process id: 0x1480 Faulting application start time: 0x01cb5fe9a0660e81 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\POWERPNT.EXE Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\FactSet\COMShim.dll Report Id: e03d2a21-cbdc-11df-9bc8-4061868f5d10 (Some of the above lines edited to keep you from scroll horizontally.) Lastly, I get this error several times a day, I don't think it is related but maybe it is: Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab with error: A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file. Any ideas? This is driving me nuts.
