  • PHP form post, automatically mapping to an object (model binding)

    - by Pete Nelson
I do a lot of ASP.NET MVC 2 development, but I'm tackling a small project at work and it needs to be done in PHP. Is there anything built-in to PHP to do model binding, mapping form post fields to a class? Some of my PHP code currently looks like this: class EntryForm { public $FirstName = ""; public $LastName = ""; } $EntryForm = new EntryForm(); if ($_POST && $_POST["Submit"] == "Submit") { $EntryForm->FirstName = trim($_POST["FirstName"]); $EntryForm->LastName = trim($_POST["LastName"]); } Is there anything built-in to a typical PHP install that would do such mapping like you'd find in ASP.NET MVC, or does it require an additional framework?

  • What parallel programming model do you recommend today to take advantage of the manycore processors

    - by Doctor J
If you were writing a new application from scratch today, and wanted it to scale to all the cores you could throw at it tomorrow, what parallel programming model/system/language/library would you choose? Why? I am particularly interested in answers along these axes: Programmer productivity / ease of use (can mortals successfully use it?) Target application domain (what problems is it (not) good at?) Concurrency style (does it support tasks, pipelines, data parallelism, messages...?) Maintainability / future-proofing (will anybody still be using it in 20 years?) Performance (how does it scale on what kinds of hardware?) I am being deliberately vauge on the nature of the application in anticipation of getting good general answers useful for a variety of applications.

  • How to debug when CakePHP Model::save() doesn't attempt an INSERT

    - by RyOnLife
I am having a bear of a time saving the simplest record from a model called ItemView: if($this->save($this->data)) { echo 'worked'; } else { echo 'failed'; } Where $this-data is: Array ( [ItemView] => Array ( [list_id] => 1 [user_id] => 1 ) ) And my table is: CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `item_views` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, `list_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `user_id` int(11) default NULL, `user_ip` int(10) unsigned default NULL, `created` datetime NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 ROW_FORMAT=FIXED AUTO_INCREMENT=1 ; Looking at the query dump in debug mode, Cake isn't even attempting an INSERT, so I have no idea how to debug. Any help would be appreciated.

  • How to change Zend_Db_Table name within a Model to insert in multiple tables

    - by jwhat
    Using Zend Framework, I've created a Model to insert a record into a database. My question is, after $this->insert($data) how can I switch the active table so that I can insert a record into another table? Here's my code so far: class Model_DbTable_Foo extends Zend_Db_Table_Abstract { protected $_name = 'foo'; public function addFoo($params) { $data = array( 'foo' => $params['foo'], ); $this->insert($data); $foo_id = $this->getAdapter()->lastInsertId(); $data2 = array( 'bar' => $params['bar'] ); // I need to change the Db Table name here. $this->insert($data2); $bar_id = $this->getAdapter()->lastInsertId(); } }

  • Data Model Evolution

    - by redleafong
Hey guys, When writing code I am seeing requirements to change data models (e.g. adding/changing/removing data members from a class). When these data models belong to an interface, it seems difficult to change without breaking the existing client codes. So I am wondering if there is any best practice of designing interfaces/data models in a way to minimize the impact during evolution. The closest thing I can find from google is data contract versioning. But that seems to be a .net specific topic. I am wondering if the same practice applies to the Java world, or there is a different or generic way to deal with data model evolution. Thanks

  • Between/Timerange LINQ

    - by dezza
My intention here is to select all entries (Bookings) between "begin" (begin_prefix) and "end" (end_prefix) BUT! The important thing is: If I have a booking at 07:25-10:00 - you query for 09:00-10:00 it should still show the booking because it reserves the room until 10 no matter what .. So .. 07.25-10.00 booking means query for 09:00-10.00 still returns a list of bookings within 09:00-10.00 (which means 07.25-10.00 is included) public static List<booking> Today(DateTime begin, DateTime end) { try { IFormatProvider Culturez = new CultureInfo(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["locale"].ToString(), true); DateTime begin_prefix = DateTime.ParseExact(begin.ToString(), "dd-MM-yyyy HH:mm:ss", Culturez); DateTime end_prefix = DateTime.ParseExact(end.ToString(), "dd-MM-yyyy HH:mm:ss", Culturez); dbDataContext db = new dbDataContext(); // gives bookings BEFORE begin_prefix (why?) IQueryable<booking> bQ = from b in db.bookings where begin_prefix >= b.Starts && b.Ends <= end_prefix && b.Ends > b.Starts && b.pointsbookings.Count > 0 select b; // ^gives bookings BEFORE begin_prefix (why?) List<booking> bL = bQ.ToList(); return bL; } catch (Exception) { throw; } } I've tried getting this right for some time now .. Seems everytime I correct it to something new, a new overlap or selection outside the two begin/end dates seem to appear :( UPDATE CRITERIA and SOURCE: Bookings has to be WITHIN "begin_prefix" and "end_prefix" or on the exact same time .. .. currently the above code gives me bookings BEFORE begin_prefix date, which is not intentioned! We're in 2011, I got bookings from 2010 as well! ** NEW!! UPDATED: This is what I have: SEARCH.START = BOOKING.START BOOKING.END <= SEARCH.END ... the problem comes up when .. BOOKING entry: 10:00(Start)-14:00(End) This means according to above: 08.59 = 10.00 (SEARCH.START = BOOKING.START) It will never include it. But it should, since this is the same room and the seats are booked individually!

  • Updating a table with the max date of another table

    - by moleboy
In Oracle 10g, I need to update Table A with data from Table B. Table A has LOCATION, TRANDATE, and STATUS. Table B has LOCATION, STATUSDATE, and STATUS I need to update the STATUS column in Table A with the STATUS column from Table B where the STATUSDATE is the max date upto and including the TRANDATE for that LOCATION (basically, I'm getting the status of the location at the time of a particular transaction). I have a PL/SQL procedure that will do this but I KNOW there must be a way to get it to work using an analytic, and I've been banging my head too long. Thanks!

  • Rails ActiveRecord- has_many through and belongs_to a related model

    - by Nick
I have 3 models sites, user_favorites and users. Relevant relationships: class Site < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :users, :through => :user_favorites class UserFavorite < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user, :counter_cache => true belongs_to :site end class User < ActiveRecord:Base has_many :user_favorites has_many :sites, :through => :user_favorites All of that works just fine. I'd like to add a new attribute to the Site model to indicate which user created it. I don't believe this constitutes a has_and_belongs_to_many scenario. A site has many users through user_favorites but I want it to belong to a single user reflecting the owner/creator. I'm wondering what the ORM best practice is for this. SQL wise I'd just use different joins depending on what I was trying to query with a created_by FK in Site. Sorry if I'm missing something basic here. Thanks

  • habtm multiple times with the same model

    - by Ermin
I am trying to model a publications. A publication can have multiple authors and editors. Since it is possible that one person is an author of one publication and an editor of another, no separate models for Authors and Editors: class Publication < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :authors, :class_name=>'Person' has_and_belongs_to_many :editors, :class_name=>'Person' end The above code doesn't work, because it uses the same join table. Now I now that I can specify the name of the join table, but there is a warning in the API documentation is a warning about that which I don't understand: :join_table: Specify the name of the join table if the default based on lexical order isn’t what you want. WARNING: If you’re overwriting the table name of either class, the table_name method MUST be declared underneath any has_and_belongs_to_many declaration in order to work.

  • How to find date ranges in records with consecutive dates and duplicate data

    - by alan s
    There's probably any easy solution for this, but I can't see it. I have a table with consecutive dates and often duplicate associated data for several of these consecutive dates: Date Col1 Col2 5/13/2010 1 A 5/14/2010 1 A 5/15/2010 2 B 5/16/2010 1 A 5/17/2010 1 A 5/18/2010 3 C 5/19/2010 3 C 5/20/2010 3 C Using MS T-SQL, I wish to find the start and end dates for each run of distinct Col1 and Col2 values: StartDate EndDate Col1 Col2 5/13/2010 5/14/2010 1 A 5/15/2010 5/15/2010 2 B 5/16/2010 5/17/2010 1 A 5/18/2010 5/20/2010 3 C Assumptions: There are never any missing dates. Col1 and Col2 are not null. Any ideas - preferably that don't use cursors? Many thanks, -alan

  • Unit Testing Model Classes that derive from NSManagedObject

    - by Matt Baker
So...I'm trying to get unit tests set up in my iPhone App but I'm having some issues. I'm trying to test my model classes but they inherit directly from NSManagedObject. I'm sure this is a problem but I don't know how to get around it. Everything is building and running as expected but I get this error when calling any method on the class I'm testing: Unknown.m:0:0 unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xc2b120 If I follow this structure (http://chanson.livejournal.com/115621.html) to create my object in my tests I end up with another error entirely but it still doesn't help me. Basically my question is this: how can I test a class that inherits from NSManagedObject?

  • XSLT 1.0: Sorting by concating portions of date string

    - by dscl
I'm trying to take XML data and sort elements by their data attribute. Unfortunately the dates come over in mm/dd/yyyy format and are not static lengths. (Jan = 1 instead of 01) So I believe the string will have to be parsed into three components and the month padded. The newly concated value (yyyymmdd) then sorted descending. Problem is I have no idea how to do this. Here is an example of the data <content date="1/13/2011 1:21:00 PM"> <collection vo="promotion"> <data vo="promotion" promotionid="64526" code="101P031" startdate="1/7/2011 12:00:00 AM"/> <data vo="promotion" promotionid="64646" code="101P026" startdate="2/19/2011 12:00:00 AM"/> <data vo="promotion" promotionid="64636" code="101P046" startdate="1/9/2011 12:00:00 AM"/> </collection> </content> Also can anyone please recommend a good book on learning XSLT? Thanks!

  • How to sort Ruby Hash based on date?

    - by Eki Eqbal

  • Saving related model objects

    - by iHeartDucks
I have two related models (one to many) in my django app and When I do something like this ObjBlog = Blog() objBlog.name = 'test blog' objEntry1 = Entry() objEntry1.title = 'Entry one' objEntry2 = Entry() objEntry2.title = 'Entry Two' objBlog.entry_set.add(objEntry1) objBlog.entry_set.add(objEntry2) I get an error which says "null value in column and it violates the foreign key not null constraint". None of my model objects have been saved. Do I have to save the "objBlog" before I could set the entries? I was hoping I could call the save method on objBlog to save it all. NOTE: I am not creating a blog engine and this is just an example.

  • What comes first in Ruby's object model?

    - by Timothy
I've been reading Metaprogramming Ruby and the object model like the chicken or egg dilemma. In Ruby 1.8, the Object class is an instance of Class. Module's superclass is Object and is an instance of Class. Class' superclass is Module, and it is an instance of Class (self-referential). Say class SomeClass; end is defined somewhere; SomeClass is an instance of Class, however its superclass is Object. Why does an instance of Class have Object as the superclass instead of nil? Also, if Object is to exist, then Class has to exist, but then Module has to exist, but for Module to exist Object has to exist. How are these classes created?

  • Entity Framework 4.1 auto generate with DbContext when creating ADO.NET Entity Data Model

    - by smudgedlens
I would like to work with DbContext instead of ObjectContext. I updated EF so now I have the DbContext, but I want to generate my strongly-typed context based on the DbContext and not the ObjectContext. When I add new ADO.NET Entity Data Model, it is still based on the ObjectContext. Is it not possible to have it base off of DbContext in Visual Studio 2010 with EF 4.1? UPDATE: Okay, I followed the directions in this link and was able to generate the DbContext template objects. However, now it is saying there is ambiguity between the template entities and the entities in my .edmx file. How do I resovle this? Do I blow away the ones in the .edmx file?

  • JSF - Updating Model Values in Controller Bean

    - by Sean
I have a Controller bean (SearchController) that has two managed bean as managed properties (SearchCriteria, SearchResults; both of which are session scoped). When the user hits the find button, the action method that is executed is in SearchController. The SearchCreteria managed bean has a method called search(). This method returns a new SearchResults object. In the controller bean, I am setting the searchResults managed property to be this new SearchResults object. The searchResults object contains what I expect during that request, but the object does not persist in the managed bean. I understand that I am changing what object that searchResults is referencing, but what I don't understand is why JSF isn't updating the model to use the new object. Any ideas what I'm missing or don't understand? I am using JSF 1.1 on WebSphere 6.1. If I put the search method in the SearchResults managed bean, it works.

  • Best way to model Customer <--> Address

    - by Jen
Every Customer has a physical address and an optional mailing address. What is your preferred way to model this? Option 1. Customer has foreign key to Address Customer (id, phys_address_id, mail_address_id) Address (id, street, city, etc.) Option 2. Customer has one-to-many relationship to Address, which contains a field to describe the address type Customer (id) Address (id, customer_id, address_type, street, city, etc.) Option 3. Address information is de-normalized and stored in Customer Customer (id, phys_street, phys_city, etc. mail_street, mail_city, etc.) One of my overriding goals is to simplify the object-relational mappings, so I'm leaning towards the first approach. What are your thoughts?
