• Truncating a table referenced by a foreign key

  Hey, We have two tables in a SQL Server 2005 database, A and B.There is a service which truncates table A every day. Recently, a foreign key constraint was added to table B, referencing table A. As a result, it isn't possible truncating table A anymore, even if table B is empty. Is there any workaround to get the same result as truncating table A? I've already tried the approach below but the identity wasn't reset. DBCC CHECKIDENT (TABLENAME, RESEED, 0) PS. before anyone points this as a duplicate, the different thing here is that I'm not allowed to drop constraints, nor creating any.

• How can one change the primary key using NHibernate.

  Dear ladies and sirs. I want to change the primary key of an entity in database, so that all the relevant foreign key constraints are updated as well./We are using NHibenate as our ORM. Is it possible to do it? Thanks. P.S. I know the practice of changing the primary key is highly discouraged. My problem is that my primary key is backed by a natural Id of the entity, which may sometimes change. We could, theoretically, utilize a unique primary key, unrelated to the natural key of the entity, but this complicates things too much in other places, so this is not an option.

  Hi I'm currently using yahoo map service to display a static image of a location with the latitude and longitude that I suppiled, and this work fine. But I was just wondering if it possible to send an url request to the service that will return an image with multiple markers on the image? (ie. more than one locations marked). • How to show controls hierarchy in Winform designer

  Hi, One of our client has an old winform application that contains forms with a lot of controls on them. Some of those controls have a deep hierarchy and that make it to hard to select them in the designer. I would need to understand this hierarchy to make modification and correct some bugs, is there a tools, plugin or something to be able to clearly see this hierarchy ? Something like in the aspx source when you have a breadcrumb of where you are in the HTML hierarchy (HTML Body div etc ...) or something more visual maybe ? Any ideas ? PS : we use Visual Studio 2008, .NET 2.0

• Can you recommend wiki, forum, blog & cms plugins for an existing Rails app or should I go the route

  Hello. I have an existing Rails internal app, that handles inventory, invoicing, order taking, labeling, data imports/exports, etc, etc. Now I need to add blog, cms, forum and wiki functionality to it. It seems silly to try to roll out my own solutions when there are already some out there. So I was wondering if people could recommend based on their experience: Are there good plugins out there? (Which ones you had experience with?) Would you rather recommend to go the route of engines, and integrate RadiantCMS or similar apps? (please provide recommendations based on your integration experience) Or would you just bite the bullet and roll out your own? Thank you. P.S.: Right now the app is Rails 2.3, but it will get upgraded to Rail 3 in a year, when most gems/plugins that it depends on will be Rails 3 compatible.

• To change checkbox text or to not change?

  Hi, I'm having an argument with a co-worker, and I'm trying to convince him that it's a bad idea to change checkbox text (label) according to the checkbox state. For example, we have a combobox that automatically picks selected value (and is disabled) when checkbox next to it is checked and is enabled when checkbox is cleared. His idea is to show Autoselect when checkbox is checked and Manual select when it's cleared. I'm sure that this will confuse the user as users tend to think that checking a checkbox next to a verb will make it true, only to find that the label has changed to something else. What is your opinion on this matter? P.S. I remember reading about changing checkbox text somewhere, in a book or blog article, but can't remember where. It would be great to have this in writing :-)

• Can I install Whizzy for Emacs on a Mac (is Mac OS X a unix environment)?

  I think my question is pretty stupid, but here it goes: I am using Aquamacs, and I want to install the Whizzy mode. The website for Whizzy says that "it is designed for Unix platforms". I read that Mac OS X is unix certified, but does that mean I can install Whizzy on my mac? If yes, can I install and use it with Aquamacs or do I have to use the Emacs running from the terminal? PS: I don't know whether this question should be posted here or on SuperUser, but as Emacs users seem to hang out here more often, this is the place I chose.

Is html/javascript as powerfull as as3/Flex or are they entirely different. With other words can i build the exact same applictions with HTML(4/5) and Javascript as i can do with AS3/Flex? I'm not looking for the speed comparison? or bashing one technology over the other? I just want to know if is good for me to dive into javascript, JQuery...... PS. Please, answer with both theoretical (width of ld/sd unit with its throughput in uOPs/tick) and practical numbers (even memcpy speed tests, or STREAM benchmark), if any. PS it is question, related to maximal rate of load/store instructions in assembler. There can be theoretical rate of loading (all Instructions Per Tick are widest loads), but processor can give only part of such, a practical limit of loading.

  Hi, I am just a beginner in ASP.NET. My question is simple, I wanna add list items dynamically from the code behind file and I want each item to have a text and couple of images as hyperlinks.   I have a solution containing asp.net project class library WCF service class library WCF service application I've added a project refference from the asp.net project to the class library project and to the service class library project. I've published the asp.net application, loaded it to the webserver root. all ok. Now for the service, I've created a new folder on the root called WCF, and placed the aplication in there. Is this The way I should deploy the sollution? Are this the steps when you have more than a simple asp.net application?   I had this problem on an exam yesterday. I couldn't resolve it so you can imagine the result... Make a recursive function: int invertint( int num) that will receive an integer and return it but inverted, example: 321 would return as 123 I wrote this: int invertint( int num ) { int rest = num % 10; int div = num / 10; if( div == 0 ) { return( rest ); } return( rest * 10 + invert( div ) ) } Worked for 2 digits numbers but not for 3 digits or more. Since 321 would return 1 * 10 + 23 in the last stage. Thanks a lot! PS: Is there a way to understand these kind of recursion problems in a faster manner or it's up to imagination of one self?

• Subsonic: Select on a View, locks the table update?

  Hi, I have a Web site live and running now. I am using the Subsonic to handle the database connections etc. I am getting time out expired error while updating a table (say Employee). When I check sp_who2, I see the suspended connection for the PID which is updating with a block by anothor pid, so I run the profiler and found out when ever this suspended connection occur, the blocked pid is a select statement on the view (say ActiveEmployees, which is the same as the table but with some where conditions). Anyone know why a Select statement on the view could cause failure in update. If it is other (like select fails due to update) may be reasonable. Is there any way for me to make select on a view without locking the table? PS: I am using the Sql server 2005 and subsonic 2.2. Thanks

Please, can you tell scenarios and reasons when you: Use Microsoft.Ajax instead of jquery or mix both libraries? Do you use JQuery validation infrastructure instead of asp.net mvc one, or combine them both? Thank you in advance! P.S. there are also diferrent editions of the same file. How could I order them? I probably have to write a many-to-many HQL query with the order-by clause? I though of passing the orderBy field name string to the query, or is there a better solution? Tables are: products, product_catalog, product_product_catalog (associative table) P.S. Using Play! Framework JPASupport for my entities.

• FTP - way to programatically determine time remaining or bytes transfered?

  Hi all I want to make an FTP connection (ideally using Coldfusion 8, but Java is fine too) that will copy a file to a remote server. Crucially however, I want to know how many bytes have been transferred so I can give some feedback to the user. Is this possible, and if so what FTP API would you recommend as I understand the Sun implementation may be a bit lacking. Thanks in advance! PS: I could have another process/thread poll the file size on the destination machine via a web service call while the file is being transferred but it's not ideal. Getting it through FTP API would be the neatest solution.

• django - change content inside a iframe

  Hello guys, I have a site running in django, and want to make available this content on third party site. In these sites they make my content in a tag. When my site is required from within that iframe I would like to modify the content (remove header, filter data, etc.). What better way to do this? Is there any way of knowing that the request is being made from an iframe? Multiples sites will request the same url, can i change the content, based on the source site? thanks! ps.: sorry for my bad english :/

• AS3 Components in Flash Designer

  In an ActionScript 2 project I can create a new MovieClip, right-click on it on the library and select "Component Definition" to add parameters that can be referenced inside the MovieClip. This parameters can be easily changed in the MovieClips's properties. Now, I'm working on an ActionScript 3 project but haven't been able to figure out a way to obtain the values passed in those parameters. I defined a parameter named "textToDisplay" but when I write the following in the Actions for the first frame I get an error: trace(textToDisplay); This is the error: 1120: Access of undefined property textToDisplay.
