• Email SMTP validator

  I need to send hundreds of newsletters, but would like to check first if email exists on server. It's called smtp validation, at least i think so, based on my research on net. There's several libraries that can do that, and also a page with open-source code in asp (http://www.coveryourasp.com/ValidateEmail.asp#Result3), but I have hard time reading classic asp, and it seams that it uses some third-party library... Does someone have code for smtp validation in c#, and/or general explanation of how it works?

  Is there a way to find out how much memory is used by an instance of a class or basic data types in general? I have a toy webframework in cl that creates and manages web pages with instances of classes that represent the html tags and their properties, and as they are supposed to make an html page, they have children in a slot called children. so I was thinking how much a user's session will cost the server if I take this approach. I have an application which requires Flex to render statistics data calculated instantly on the client side from a downloaded data set. The problems are: the data set is large and needs more than 10 seconds to be downloaded. there are some filters to control the statistics calculation algorithms. If user changes the filters, it would take a long time to recalculate the result and freeze the UI.

  I'm writing a C program where I fork(), exec(), and wait(). I'd like to take the output of the program I exec'ed to write it to file or buffer. For example, if I exec ls I want to write file1 file2 etc to buffer/file. I don't think there is a way to read stdout, so does that mean I have to use a pipe?   I understand that this is highly specific to the concrete application, but I'm just wondering what's the general opinion, or at least some personal experiences on the issue. I have an aversion towards the 'open session in view' pattern, so to avoid it, I'm thinking about simply fetching everything small eagerly, and using queries in the service layer to fetch larger stuff. Has anyone used this and regretted it? And is there maybe some elegant solution to lazy loading in the view layer that I'm not aware of?

The second part shows an example with Interface class. But nothing in this article discusses why this pattern would rather use abstract or interface.
