• Why are my margins still collapsing?

  My code in this "Fiddle" shows that I have adjacent elements which vertical margins are collapsing on one another. I understand that due to the nature of vertical margins in css, the largest of the two is chosen, In my case the p tag. What I am having trouble with is trying to break the margins by using a 1px border or 1px padding. I've seen it work with other workarounds such as position:absolute or float method. I am not understanding why using 1px border or padding is not working properly to give me 15px of space.

Example: formatting asking words italic links returns As fscanf read a string till it meets a newline or a whitespace(using %s), it'll read formatting and the space after it and before a. The thing is, is there a way to know that it read a space? And after it entered the second line is there is a way to know that it read a carriage return?

• Why can't I do this from ASP.NET?

  The code below spawns the process and sits forever, never finishing. It doesn't matter what process I run. Also, if I use Shell with Wait it does the same thing. I am wondering why even a single delete statement of this store procedure will cause deadlock if executed by multiple threads at the same time? For the delete statement, Param1 is a column of table FooTable, Param1 is a foreign key of another table (refers to another primary key clustered index column of the other table). There is no index on Param1 itself for table FooTable. • Why so many individual System.Web.* DLLs?

  I've been thinking about ways to refactor a fairly expansive class/utility library I have, and one thing I think I want to do is split off any higher-level helper utilities that introduce new dependencies. I read some previous questions here, and one that I particularly noticed was a comment about how Microsoft freely uses namespaces across DLLs. The example given was System.Web - it's in the base framework, but there's also a System.Web.dll that adds more functionality to the namespace if you want it. I also noticed several other System.Web.* DLLs available, and I was wondering if there's a reason why they wouldn't be combined into a single DLL. Could it be that they have their own individual dependencies and Microsoft (like me) wanted to separate assemblies along those lines? Or is it for easier maintenance? Something else entirely?

It works great but the problem is, it seems to put a lot of white space after each checkbox ID. It comes up with a box where I entered in the GUID. I copied and pasted it straight from my test database. I get this error. Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 5 Incorrect syntax near 'cac671b'. So why can't I sent in GUIDs? even ones that are copied right from the database and must be valid as they where allowed into the db.

  I deploy a war to my Tomcat 6.0.35 on Win7 64bit and when I use full-interface query page (I mean form.jsp) in Solr Admin to query 2 Chinese character (say it's C1C2) , the debug info shows: <lst name="debug"> <str name="rawquerystring">æ°è</str> <str name="querystring">æ°è</str> <str name="parsedquery">NEWSID:æ°è</str> <str name="parsedquery_toString">NEWSID:æ°è</str> ... You can see C1C2 becomes æ°è. I deploy same war file to Tomcat on Linux or on another Win7 64bit of my colleagues' computer, the encoding acts well.   As far as I know there is no web browser with built in validators for HTML, CSS and Javascript. Developing web pages without validation is like using a compiler that doesn't do syntax analysis. Even Firefox with its excellent plugins aimed at developers like Firebug lacks plugins for CSS and Javascript validation. Wouldn't it be useful to have these plugins? Am I missing something?

• Why is address zero used for null pointer?

  In C (or C++ for that matter), pointers are special if they have the value zero: I am adviced to set pointers to zero after freeing their memory, because it means freeing the pointer again isn't dangerous; when I call malloc it returns a pointer with the value zero if it can't get me memory; I use if (p != 0) all the time to make sure passed pointers are valid etc. But since memory addressing starts at 0, isn't 0 just as a valid address as any other? How can 0 be used for handling null pointers if that is the case? Why isn't a negative number null instead?

  I accidentally deleted my Dell xps 14 touch pad disabling driver and I don't know where to find it and reinstall it. I have already tried Dell support and without luck (I don't want to install something that I don't know). Would anyone please send me the link to that driver To clarify: There is this Fn shortcut key used to disable/enable touch pad in Dell xps14 and when press it orange light on touch pad will lit and touch pad will stop working. But after deleting the driver that responsible for that function,it stopped working. My service center is almost 600 miles away and he said that he forgot to add it last time he fix my laptop. Since the internet connection at his place is slow,he can't send me from mail either.So can anyone send me the link for that driver. Since I don't really know about drivers it would be really nice if some one show me the driver name or link. Sorry,here is my laptop service tag "C37KWL1".I don't know how to find the specific driver for that function key.My dell has a short cut for disabling touchpad with picture on it along with the other multimedia short cut key with picture. since xps 15 and 17 have seperated touch key instead of on function keys mine have to choose function key or multimedia key through setting.To be honest my service center tech guy forgot to install it when he repair it and can't send me the file(which is about over 20mb or something according to him)for some reason.All i need is that particular file.

  I'm trying to make a simple log in/ log out web application with maven and I'm creating the project with the command: " mvn archetype:generate " and choose 341 and it'll be created with the structure below: webapp -----src/main/java -----Referenced Libraries -----Maven Dependencies -----src -----target pom.xml But when I add some dependencies and update the project something weird happening with the structure of the project according to the picture below: webapp -----src/main/java -----Referenced Libraries -----JRE System Library -----src -----target pom.xml and it's not working any more. As you can see the the first one has a Maven dependencies Library but the second one has been changed to JRE System Library. I use mac os lion and eclipse indigo. Anyone how knows why is like that?   I was experimenting with '\' characters, using '\a\b\c...' just to enumerate for myself which characters Python interprets as control characters, and to what. Here's what I found: \a - BELL \b - BACKSPACE \f - FORMFEED \n - LINEFEED \r - RETURN \t - TAB \v - VERTICAL TAB Most of the other characters I tried, '\g', '\s', etc. just evaluate to the 2-character string of a backslash and the given character. I understand this is intentional, and makes sense to me. But '\x' is a problem. When my script reaches this source line: val = "\x" I get: ValueError: invalid \x escape What is so special about '\x'? Why is it treated differently from the other non-escaped characters?
