  • Replace Loops in R function

    - by David Hicks
    Hi, I'm new to R, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to replace the FOR loop in the function below. The function estimates a population mean. Any help at all would be much appreciated. Thank you! myFunc<- function(){ myFRAME <- read.csv(file="2008short.csv",head=TRUE,sep=",") meanTotal <- 0 for(i in 1:100) { mySample <- sample(myFRAME$TaxiIn, 100, replace = TRUE) tempMean <- mean(mySample) meanTotal <- meanTotal + tempMean } cat("Estimated Mean: ", meanTotal/100, "\n") #print result }

  • Doctrine2 update both sides of association

    - by orourkedd
    I'm using this to update both sides of an association but want to know if there is a more efficient way to do this. In this case, it is a self-referencing OneToMany parent/child association: public function setParent(Node $parent, $inverse = true) { $this->parent = $parent; if($inverse) $parent->addChild($this, false); } public function addChild(Node $child, $inverse = true) { if(!$this->children->contains($child)) { $this->children[] = $child; if($inverse) $child->setParent($this, false); } }

  • Winforms: Enabling Localization by default

    - by Obalix
    Is there an easy way to set the Localizable property to true for newly created usercontrols / forms? The scope of the setting should ideally be a solution or a project. In other words I want to say that this project/solution should be localizable, and then if I add a new form or control VS should automatically set the property to true.

  • Wordpress Template HTML CSS Layout Confusion

    - by Jess McKenzie
    I am having huge confusion with a template that I have purchased and I am trying to modify to handle a widget contact form. I am getting close with this but I have now muddled up the CSS or I have a feeling every page has a different CSS structure. • Corner Cases, Unexpected and Unusual Matlab

    - by Mikhail
    Over the years, reading others code, I encountered and collected some examples of Matlab syntax which can be at first unusual and counterintuitive. Please, feel free to comment or complement this list. I verified it r2006a. set([], 'Background:Color','red') Matlab is very forgiving sometimes. In this case, setting properties to an array of objects works also with nonsense properties, at least when the array is empty. myArray([1,round(end/2)]) This use of end keyword may seem unclean but is sometimes very handy instead of using length(myArray). any([]) ~= all([]) Surprisigly any([]) returns false and all([]) returns true. And I always thought that all is stronger then any. EDIT: with not empty argument all() returns true for a subset of values for which any() returns true (e.g. truth table). This means that any() false implies all() false. This simple rule is being violated by Matlab with [] as argument. Loren also blogged about it. Select(Range(ExcelComObj)) Procedural style COM object method dispatch. Do not wonder that exist('Select') returns zero! [myString, myCell] Matlab makes in this case an implicit cast of string variable myString to cell type {myString}. It works, also if I would not expect it to do so. [double(1.8), uint8(123)] => 2 123 Another cast example. Everybody would probably expect uint8 value being cast to double but Mathworks have another opinion. a = 5; b = a(); It looks silly but you can call a variable with round brackets. Actually it makes sense because this way you can execute a function given its handle. a = {'aa', 'bb' 'cc', 'dd'}; Surprsisingly this code neither returns a vector nor rises an error but defins matrix, using just code layout. It is probably a relict from ancient times. set(hobj, {'BackgroundColor','ForegroundColor'},{'red','blue'}) This code does what you probably expect it to do. That function set accepts a struct as its second argument is a known fact and makes sense, and this sintax is just a cell2struct away. Equvalence rules are sometimes unexpected at first. For example 'A'==65 returns true (although for C-experts it is self-evident). About which further unexpected/unusual Matlab features are you aware?

  • Rails: Using form tags inside lib

    - by jaycode
    So I have this code inside my lib/ folder: class GlobalConfig::SetHelper def self.yes_no_input(configuration) value = configuration.value name = configuration.name "#{radio_button_tag name, true, (value == true), {:id => "#{name}_yes"}} #{label_tag "#{name}_yes", 'yes'} #{radio_button_tag name, false, (value.blank? or value == false), {:id => "#{name}_no"}} #{label_tag "#{name}_no", 'no'}" end end But it returned: undefined method `radio_button_tag' for GlobalConfig::SetHelper:Class when I run the code. How do I fix this. Anyone? Thanks

Miraculously, if I modify the database directly to set tagger_id and tagger_type to NULL, the two missing tags will show up. I suspect there's something wrong with my User model? What gives?

  • Implementing union of Set using basic java array

    - by lupindeterd
    Note: This is an assignment. Hi, Continuing with my Set implementation using Java basic array, I'm now struggling with the 3 to last function namely the union. import java.io.*; class Set { private int numberOfElements = 0; private String[] setElements = new String[5]; private int maxNumberOfElements = 5; // constructor for our Set class public Set(int numberOfE, int setE, int maxNumberOfE) { int numberOfElements = numberOfE; String[] setElements = new String[setE]; int maxNumberOfElements = maxNumberOfE; } // Helper method to shorten/remove element of array since we're using basic array instead of ArrayList or HashSet from collection interface :( static String[] removeAt(int k, String[] arr) { final int L = arr.length; String[] ret = new String[L - 1]; System.arraycopy(arr, 0, ret, 0, k); System.arraycopy(arr, k + 1, ret, k, L - k - 1); return ret; } int findElement(String element) { int retval = 0; for ( int i = 0; i < setElements.length; i++) { if ( setElements[i] != null && setElements[i].equals(element) ) { return retval = i; } retval = -1; } return retval; } void add(String newValue) { int elem = findElement(newValue); if( numberOfElements < maxNumberOfElements && elem == -1 ) { setElements[numberOfElements] = newValue; numberOfElements++; } } int getLength() { if ( setElements != null ) { return setElements.length; } else { return 0; } } String[] emptySet() { setElements = new String[0]; return setElements; } Boolean isFull() { Boolean True = new Boolean(true); Boolean False = new Boolean(false); if ( setElements.length == maxNumberOfElements ){ return True; } else { return False; } } Boolean isEmpty() { Boolean True = new Boolean(true); Boolean False = new Boolean(false); if ( setElements.length == 0 ) { return True; } else { return False; } } void remove(String newValue) { for ( int i = 0; i < setElements.length; i++) { if ( setElements[i].equals(newValue) ) { setElements = removeAt(i,setElements); } } } int isAMember(String element) { int retval = -1; for ( int i = 0; i < setElements.length; i++ ) { if (setElements[i] != null && setElements[i].equals(element)) { return retval = i; } } return retval; } void printSet() { for ( int i = 0; i < setElements.length; i++) { System.out.println("Member elements on index: "+ i +" " + setElements[i]); } } String[] getMember() { String[] tempArray = new String[setElements.length]; for ( int i = 0; i < setElements.length; i++) { if(setElements[i] != null) { tempArray[i] = setElements[i]; } } return tempArray; } Set union(Set x, Set y) { String[] newtemparray = new String[x.getLength]; newtemparray = x.getMember; return x; } } // This is the SetDemo class that will make use of our Set class class SetDemo { public static void main(String[] args) { //get input from keyboard BufferedReader keyboard; InputStreamReader reader; String temp = ""; reader = new InputStreamReader(System.in); keyboard = new BufferedReader(reader); try { System.out.println("Enter string element to be added" ); temp = keyboard.readLine( ); System.out.println("You entered " + temp ); } catch (IOException IOerr) { System.out.println("There was an error during input"); } /* ************************************************************************** * Test cases for our new created Set class. * ************************************************************************** */ Set setA = new Set(1,10,10); setA.add(temp); setA.add("b"); setA.add("b"); setA.add("hello"); setA.add("world"); setA.add("six"); setA.add("seven"); setA.add("b"); int size = setA.getLength(); System.out.println("Set size is: " + size ); Boolean isempty = setA.isEmpty(); System.out.println("Set is empty? " + isempty ); int ismember = setA.isAMember("sixb"); System.out.println("Element six is member of setA? " + ismember ); Boolean output = setA.isFull(); System.out.println("Set is full? " + output ); setA.printSet(); int index = setA.findElement("world"); System.out.println("Element b located on index: " + index ); setA.remove("b"); setA.emptySet(); int resize = setA.getLength(); System.out.println("Set size is: " + resize ); setA.printSet(); Set setB = new Set(0,10,10); Set SetA = setA.union(setB,setA); } } Ok the method in question will be the implementation of union. As such this: Set union(Set x, Set y) { String[] newtemparray = new String[x.getLength]; newtemparray = x.getMember; return x; } I got this error: symbol : variable getLength location: class Set String[] newtemparray = new String[x.getLength]; ^ d:\javaprojects\Set.java:122: cannot find symbol symbol : variable getMember location: class Set newtemparray = x.getMember; ^ 2 errors My approach for union would be: *) create temporary array of string with size of the object x length. *) store object x members to temporary array by looping the object and calling the getMember *) loop object y members and check if element exist against temporary array. *) discard if it exist/add if it is not there *) return obj x with the union array. thanks, lupin

  • Proving that P <= NP

    - by Gail
    As most people know, P = NP is unproven and seems unlikely to be true. The proof would prove that P <= NP and NP <= P. Only one of those is hard, though. P <= NP is almost by definition true. In fact, that's the only way that I know how to state that P <= NP. It's just intuitive. How would you prove that P <= NP?

  • ActionListener problem

    - by thegamer
    Hello, i am trying to make an actionListener on a button in another button which has also an actionlistener and i just couldn't figure it out for some way. I am trying to make an action on the 2nd button but i couldn't figure it out.If anyone helps me i'd appreciate! here is the code below: import java.awt.; import java.awt.event.; import javax.swing.; import java.io.; import java.util.*; public class basic implements ActionListener{ public static void main(String[] args) { basic process = new basic (); } public basic(){ JFrame fan = new JFrame("Scheme"); JPanel one = new JPanel(new BorderLayout()); fan.add(one); JPanel uno = new JPanel(); uno.setLayout(new BoxLayout(uno, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS)); JButton addB = new JButton("first choice"); addB.setAlignmentX(Component.CENTER_ALIGNMENT); uno.add(addB); addDButton.setActionCommand("hehe"); addDButton.addActionListener(this); one.add(uno,BorderLayout.CENTER); fan.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); fan.setSize(500,700); fan.setLocationByPlatform(true); fan.setVisible(true); } public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent evt) { JPanel markP = new JPanel(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.RIGHT,10,20)); JDialog dialog = new JDialog((JFrame)null); dialog.getContentPane().add(markP,BorderLayout.CENTER); if (evt.getActionCommand().equals("hehe")) { JLabel title = new JLabel("Proceed"); title.setFont(new Font("Arial",Font.BOLD,15)); markP.add(title,BorderLayout.NORTH); JButton exit = new JButton("Exit"); markP.add(exit); //here i want to create another actionListener on the exit button only without affecting the other content which is in the button "addB " so that when i click on the addB button the J dialog pops up, and than when i click on exit button the program will return to the menu.I couldn't figure it out. dialog.toFront(); dialog.setModal(true); dialog.pack(); // dialog.setLocationRelativeTo(null); // dialog.setVisible(true); } // here the code goes on but the problem is that of the actionListener which is concerned.

  • Using cascade in NHibernate

    - by Tyler
    I have two classes, call them Monkey and Banana, with a one-to-many bidirectional relationship. Monkey monkey = new Monkey(); Banana banana = new Banana(); monkey.Bananas.Add(banana); banana.Monkey = monkey; hibernateService.Save(banana); When I run that chunk of code, I want both monkey and banana to be persisted. However, it's only persisting both when I explicitly save the monkey and not vice versa. Initially, this made sense since only my Monkey.hbm.xml had a mapping with cascade="all". <set name="Bananas" inverse="true" cascade="all"> <key column="Id"/> <one-to-many class="Banana"/> </set> I figured I just needed to add the following to my Banana.hbm.xml file: <many-to-one name="Monkey" column="Id" cascade="all" /> Unfortunately, this resulted in a Parameter index is out of range error when I tried to run the snippet of code. I investigated this error and found this post, but I still don't see what I'm doing wrong. I have the relationship mapped once on each side as far as I can tell. For full disclosure, here are the two mapping files: Monkey.hbm.xml <class name="Monkey" table="monkies" lazy="true"> <id name="Id"> <generator class="increment" /> </id> <property name="Name" /> <set name="Bananas" inverse="true" cascade="all"> <key column="Id"/> <one-to-many class="Banana"/> </set> </class> Banana.hbm.xml <class name="Banana" table="bananas" lazy="true"> <id name="Id"> <generator class="increment" /> </id> <property name="Name" /> <many-to-one name="Monkey" column="Id" cascade="all" /> </class>

  • Routed Command Question

    - by Andrew
    I'd like to implement a custom command to capture a Backspace key gesture inside of a textbox, but I don't know how. I wrote a test program in order to understand what's going on, but the behaviour of the program is rather confusing. Basically, I just need to be able to handle the Backspace key gesture via wpf commands while keyboard focus is in the textbox, and without disrupting the normal behaviour of the Backspace key within the textbox. Here's the xaml for the main window and the corresponding code-behind, too (note that I created a second command for the Enter key, just to compare its behaviour to that of the Backspace key): <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Grid> <TextBox Margin="44,54,44,128" Name="textBox1" /> </Grid> </Window> And here's the corresponding code-behind: using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Input; namespace WpfApplication1 { /// <summary> /// Interaction logic for EntryListView.xaml /// </summary> public partial class Window1 : Window { public static RoutedCommand EnterCommand = new RoutedCommand(); public static RoutedCommand BackspaceCommand = new RoutedCommand(); public Window1() { InitializeComponent(); CommandBinding cb1 = new CommandBinding(EnterCommand, EnterExecuted, EnterCanExecute); CommandBinding cb2 = new CommandBinding(BackspaceCommand, BackspaceExecuted, BackspaceCanExecute); this.CommandBindings.Add(cb1); this.CommandBindings.Add(cb2); KeyGesture kg1 = new KeyGesture(Key.Enter); KeyGesture kg2 = new KeyGesture(Key.Back); InputBinding ib1 = new InputBinding(EnterCommand, kg1); InputBinding ib2 = new InputBinding(BackspaceCommand, kg2); this.InputBindings.Add(ib1); this.InputBindings.Add(ib2); } #region Command Handlers private void EnterCanExecute(object sender, CanExecuteRoutedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("Inside EnterCanExecute Method."); e.CanExecute = true; } private void EnterExecuted(object sender, ExecutedRoutedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("Inside EnterExecuted Method."); e.Handled = true; } private void BackspaceCanExecute(object sender, CanExecuteRoutedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("Inside BackspaceCanExecute Method."); e.Handled = true; } private void BackspaceExecuted(object sender, ExecutedRoutedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("Inside BackspaceExecuted Method."); e.Handled = true; } #endregion Command Handlers } } Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks! Andrew

  • Mako templates inline if statement

    - by ensnare
    I have a template variable, c.is_friend, that I would like to use to determine whether or not a class is applied. For example: if c.is_friend is True <a href="#" class="friend">link</a> if c.is_friend is False <a href="#">link</a> Is there some way to do this inline, like: <a href="#" ${if c.is_friend is True}class="friend"{/if}>link</a> Or something like that?

  • NHibernate Mapping problem

    - by Bernard Larouche
    My database is being driven by my NHibernate mapping files. I have a Category class that looks like the following : public class Category { public Category() : this("") { } public Category(string name) { Name = name; SubCategories = new List<Category>(); Products = new HashSet<Product>(); } public virtual int ID { get; set; } public virtual string Name { get; set; } public virtual string Description { get; set; } public virtual Category Parent { get; set; } public virtual bool IsDefault { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Category> SubCategories { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Product> Products { get; set; } and here is my Mapping file : <property name="Name" column="Name" type="string" not-null="true"/> <property name="IsDefault" column="IsDefault" type="boolean" not-null="true" /> <property name="Description" column="Description" type="string" not-null="true" /> <many-to-one name="Parent" column="ParentID"></many-to-one> <bag name="SubCategories" inverse="true"> <key column="ParentID"></key> <one-to-many class="Category"/> </bag> <set name="Products" table="Categories_Products"> <key column="CategoryId"></key> <many-to-many column="ProductId" class="Product"></many-to-many> </set> when I try to create the database I get the following error : failed: The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY SAME TABLE constraint "FK9AD976763BF05E2A". The conflict occurred in database "CoderForTraders", table "dbo.Categories", column 'CategoryId'. The statement has been terminated. I looked on the net for some answers but found none. Thanks for your help

  • SQL IF ELSE BEGIN END

    - by Swami
    If there are no begin and end statements in sql, the next statement is the only one that gets executed if the if condition is true...in the case below, is there anyway the insert statement will also get executed if the if condition is true? IF (a > 1) SET @b = 1 + 2 INSERT INTO #F (a, b, c) VALUES (1, 2, 3)

  • Stack and queue operations on the same array.

    - by Passonate Learner
    Hi. I've been thinking about a program logic, but I cannot draw a conclusion to my problem. Here, I've implemented stack and queue operations to a fixed array. int A[1000]; int size=1000; int top; int front; int rear; bool StackIsEmpty() { return (top==0); } bool StackPush( int x ) { if ( top >= size ) return false; A[top++] = x; return true; } int StackTop( ) { return A[top-1]; } bool StackPop() { if ( top <= 0 ) return false; A[--top] = 0; return true; } bool QueueIsEmpty() { return (front==rear); } bool QueuePush( int x ) { if ( rear >= size ) return false; A[rear++] = x; return true; } int QueueFront( ) { return A[front]; } bool QueuePop() { if ( front >= rear ) return false; A[front++] = 0; return true; } It is presumed(or obvious) that the bottom of the stack and the front of the queue is pointing at the same location, and vice versa(top of the stack points the same location as rear of the queue). For example, integer 1 and 2 is inside an array in order of writing. And if I call StackPop(), the integer 2 will be popped out, and if I call QueuePop(), the integer 1 will be popped out. My problem is that I don't know what happens if I do both stack and queue operations on the same array. The example above is easy to work out, because there are only two values involved. But what if there are more than 2 values involved? For example, if I call StackPush(1); QueuePush(2); QueuePush(4); StackPop(); StackPush(5); QueuePop(); what values will be returned in the order of bottom(front) from the final array? I know that if I code a program, I would receive a quick answer. But the reason I'm asking this is because I want to hear a logical explanations from a human being, not a computer.

  • What are Bridge and Synthetic methods in Java?

    - by kunjaan
    Returns : true if and only if this method is a bridge method as defined by the Java Language Specification. Since: 1.5 Returns: true if and only if this method is a synthetic method as defined by the Java Language Specification. Since: 1.5 I saw these in my Reflection doc. I saw couple of docs but I couldn't fully understand the usage of them. Could Somebody expalin these methods for a layperson?

  • Dialog width does not work in FireFox

    - by coffeeaddict
    I do not understand why the dialog will not work for width in Firefox (latest version) but will in IE (latest version): dialogDiv.dialog ( { resizable: resizable, width: width, height: height, bgiframe: true, modal: true, autoOpen: false, show: 'blind' } ) No, it's not in a table..it's all tableless and I see it working fine in IE for width.
