  • Installing Python in Windows XP

    My work PC has restrictions that stop me from adding programs to the start menu so when I try to install Python using the Python 2.6.5 Windows installer it can't complete as it tries to add a shortcut to my start menu. Is there a way around this? I.e another way of installing without the need for a shortcut? Edit: I'll also need to install NumPy which I can't do on the Portable version of Python.

    I believe back when we were on Win2K, Windows Search would search through Jar files to locate specific classes but this doesn't appear to work in XP. Does anyone know how to enable this in XP? Note, to do the search in Win2K we just entered *.jar for the files and "ClassABC" for the search text string and the search would return any jar files containing class files where the title contained "ClassABC".

    Can anybody please tell me the registry setting(s) that are affected in Windows Mobile 6.1 when a user selects Start - Settings - Connections - Wi-Fi and then changes the value of the "My network card connects to" drop down list on the "Network Adapters" tab? I have a device that seems to default this to "The Internet" when in fact the Wi-Fi connects to the corporate network and I would like to be able to change this programatically rather than expecting 250+ users to have to do it manually every time they reboot their devices. The server is dedicated, thus I have full control over my machine. php.ini looks fine - ([mail function] is configured) I don't get any error from mail() (with the right parameters of course) btw - I got ASP and ASP.NET sending mails without any problems.     I have a multithreaded windows service that will unpredictably stop running once every 24 hours or so. I am writing to the event log and that's going through just fine, but whenever the service crashes there are no messages in the event log (even that the service stopped, despite having AutoLog=true). Is there a way to have uncaught exceptions written straight to the log, even if they aren't in the original thread?

    Well thats all there is to it...is this possible? I understand that officially it's not supported but has anyone figured it out? I have some work to do where XP would be the preferred platform. I would expect that users of the actual device are not required to use Windows 7 so it stands to reason that this can be done. Any poitners in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.     I have bunch of Symbol MC 70 devices. They run Windows Mobile 5. Most of these work just fine, but I have one that is sending the sounds (alarms and such) to the phone rather than the speaker on the device. (The sounds play in the speaker used for listening to a phone call) Does anyone know how to route this back to the actual phone speaker?

    I've already figured out how to add a menu item to the right click context menu of the windows explorer using the registry. I currently have it set to launch my application when my menu item is clicked. However, I want to know if there is a way to know what file is was right clicked on. I thought it would have been sent as a command line argument to the launched program, but it's not. Any ideas?
