• Split NSData objects into other NSData objects with a given size

  I'm having an NSData object of approximately 1000kb big. Now I want to transfer this via bluetooth. This would be better if I have let's say 10 objects of 100kb. It comes to mind that I should use the -subdataWithRange: method of NSData. I haven't really worked with NSRange. Well I know how it works, but then to read from a given location with the length: 'to end of file'... I've no idea how to do that. Some code on how to split this into multiple 100kb NSData objects would really help me out here. (it probably involves the length method to see how many objects should be made..?) • mysql_tzinfo_to_sql missing on my system

  I ran into problem with timezones within MySQL. Long story short, my application is worldwide, and each database has it's own timezone set within the application (not the server) in the way of "Europe/Berlin", "Europe/Vienna", "America/Sao Paulo". Obviously this is unacceptable for MySQL at first per connection. I read that it handles data better if you use UTC offsets. Basically my goal is to log a field's alteration in another table using a trigger. For that I use UNIX_TIMESTAMP within the trigger. Although UNIX_TIMESTAMP() follows the global timezone for the server which obviously bothers me a lot :| So I went to search for a "per connection" solution to use inside the trigger and well I found that mysql_tzinfo_to_sql can actually import zone info (UTC offsets) from my linux's zoneinfo files. Although to my amuse, when I ran the commant I got the following: bash: mysql_tzinfo_to_sql: command not found So I'm looking for a solution to fix that. I don't want to "map" the timezone names into UTC offset just so I could use in the trigger. Is there an alternative tool? Or at least sources for this one in particular only? What kind of queries does this tool generates so I could do it manually then if there is no alternative tool. Thanks in advance on any help on the issue! P.S: The OS is Debian GNU/Linux 6.0 and the MySQL server is the one from aptitude with performance tweaks with my.cnf

• copy HTML to UIPasteboard

  Hi, I want to transfer HTML from my app to the iPhone mail application. I already have the HTML text - lest say <span style='color:red'Test</span I can place this to UIPasteBoard - but when I paste it to mail I get the html source. When I place the same string in a HTMLView - select it there and copy it it pastes as red text in mail. What do I have to do to place the string in the UIPasteBoard so that it pastes as red text to the mail application? I've been searching for "format types" - and found that UIPasteBoard returns "Aplle Web Archive pasteboard type" when I have the element (copied from UIWebView) in the clipboard. But setting this as type when adding the content to UIPasteBoard pastes nothing in the mail app. Manfred

  Hello I'm building a java application which works in a LAN environment, every computer on that LAN have this application installed on it, at some point i need this application to transfer voice simultaneously to all computer over the LAN (voice broadcasting) according to the following mechanism: Only one computer of the LAN can send voice using a microphone(the administrator) All computers receive that voice simultaneously (of course using my application) The voice should be recorded on the administrator computer after finishing the session. • Solaris TCP stack tuning

  We have a large web project (about 2-3k requests per second), using haproxy (http://haproxy.1wt.eu/) as a frontend and load balancer between the java application servers. The frontend (haproxy) is running on Linux but we are going to migrate it to the Solaris 10 as all our other servers are running under Solaris. After switching a traffic I see the two things: a) the web site became loading slower (5-10 seconds with images in comparison to 2-3 seconds on Linux) b) sometimes haproxy fails to perform a "lifecheck" (get a special web page and analyze http response code) due to the socket timeout. After switching traffic back to Linux everything is okay. I've tried to tune all params I found in /dev/tcp but no progress. I believe the problem is in some open socket limitations. If someone can point me to the answer, I would be greatly appreciated. p.s. haproxy is running under Xen DomU on Linux (Kernel 2.6.18, Debian 5), under zone on Solaris (10 u8). the only thing we did on Linux is increasing of ip_conntrack_max (I believe Solaris option tcp_conn_req_max_q is the equivalent).

• Indy FTP, large files and NAT routers

  Hello! I have been using Indy to transfers files via FTP for years now but have not been able to find a satisfactory solution for the following problem. When a user is uploading a large file, behind a router, sometimes the following happens: the file is uploaded OK, but under the mean time the command channel gets disconnected because of a timeout. Normally this doesn't happens with a direct connection to the server, because the server "knows" that a transfer is being taking place on the data channel. Some routers are not aware of this, though and the command channel is closed. Many programs send a NOOP command periodically to keep the command channel alive even if this is not part of the standard FTP specification. My question: how do I do that? Do I send the NOOP command in the OnWork event? Does this cause any collateral damage in some way, like, do I need to process some response? How do I best solve this problem?

  Setup: I have Windows 7 running inside VirtualBox on Mac OS X host. I have a shared drive with some HTML files, that I am mounting as a local drive W: in Windows, from the VirtualBox server \VBOXSVR. I want to look at them with a browser in Windows. Chrome in Windows 7 opens and shows those HTML files just fine (file:///W:/welcome.html). But Internet Explorer does not, and shows this error instead of the files: Internet Explorer cannot display the web page What you can try: [button Diagnose Connection Problems] More information This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including: Internet connectivity has been lost. The website is temporarily unavailable. The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable. The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain. For the internet zone in the status bar, it shows: Internet | Protected Mode: On IE settings are a mystery to me, and I could possibly get it to work by tweaking IE settings, but I don't know which ones. How do I make IE show the same files that Chrome is happy to show? (Chrome showing them means that the files themselves are fine, there is something about the setup that just makes IE be a diva.)

• External USB attached drive works in Windows XP but not in Windows 7. How to fix?

  Earlier this week I purchased this "N52300 EZQuest Pro" external hard drive enclosure from here. I can connect the enclosure using USB 2.0 and access the files in both NTFS partitions on the MBR partitioned drive when I use either Windows XP (SP3) or Mac OS X 10.6. So it works as expected in XP & Snow Leopard. However, the enclosure does not work in Windows 7 (Home Premium) either 64-bit or 32-bit or in Ubuntu 10.04 (kernel 2.6.32-23-generic). I'm thinking this must be a Windows 7 driver problem because the enclosure works in XP & Snow Leopard. I do know that no special drivers are required to use this enclosure. It is supported using the USB mass storage drivers included with XP and OS X. It should also work fine using the mass storage support in Windows 7, no? FWIW, I have also tried using 32-bit Windows 7 on both my desktop, a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 with a Pentium Dual-Core E6500 @ 2.93GHz, and on my early 2008 MacBook. I see the same failure in both cases that I see with 64-bit Windows 7. So it doesn't appear to be specific to one hardware platform. I'm hoping someone out there can help me either get the enclosure to work in Windows 7 or convince me that the enclosure hardware is bad and should be RMAed. At the moment though an RMA seems pointless since this appears to be a (Windows 7) device driver problem. I have tried to track down any updates to the mass storage drivers included with Windows 7 but have so far come up empty. Heck, I can't even figure out how to place a bug report with Microsoft since apparently the grace period for Windows 7 email support is only a few months. I came across a link to some USB troubleshooting steps in another question. I haven't had a chance to look over the suggestions on that site or try them yet. Maybe tomorrow if I have time ... ;-) I'll finish up with some more details about the problem. When I connect the enclosure using USB to Windows 7 at first it appears everything worked. Windows detects the drive and installs a driver for it. Looking in Device Manager there is an entry under the Hard Drives section with the title, Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device. When you open Windows Disk Management the first time after the enclosure has been attached the drive appears as "Not initialize" and I'm prompted to initialize it. This is bogus. After all, the drive worked fine in XP so I know it has already been initialized, partitioned, and formatted. So of course I never try to initialize it "again". (It's a 1 GB drive and I don't want to lose the data on it). Except for this first time, the drive never shows up in Disk Management again unless I uninstall the Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device entry under Hard Drives, unplug, and then replug the enclosure. If I do that then the process in the previous paragraph repeats. In Ubuntu the enclosure never shows up at all at the file system level. Below are an excerpt from kern.log and an excerpt from the result of lsusb -v after attaching the enclosure. It appears that Ubuntu at first recongnizes the enclosure and is attempting to attach it, but encounters errors which prevent it from doing so. Today I recieved a 1394b 9 pin to 1394a 6 pin cable which allowed me to connect the "EZQuest Pro" via Firewire. Everything works. When I use Firewire I can connect whether I'm using Windows 7 or Ubuntu 10.04. I even tried booting my Gigabyte desktop as an OS X 10.6.3 Hackintosh and it worked there as well. (Though if I recall correctly, it also worked when using USB 2.0 and booting OS X on the desktop. Certainly it works with USB 2.0 and my MacBook.) I believe the firmware on the device is at the latest level available, v1.07. I base this on the excerpt below from the OS X System Profiler which shows Firmware Revision: 0x107. Bottom line: It's nice that the enclosure is actually usable when I connect with Firewire. But I am still searching for an answer as to why it does not work correctly when using USB 2.0 in Windows 7 (and Ubuntu ... but really Windows 7 is my biggest concern). • Using Struts with SpringSource dm server gives Http Status 503 error

  Hi, I developed an enterprise application using spring, struts and hibernate, now I want to transfer it to work with OSGi dm server. I found a book "Pro SpringSource dm server" where the author has explained a way to migrate WAR to OSGi bundles. I successfully migrated the application given in book. The first step of migration says that remove the lib folder in WEB-INF directory and import all the relevant packages. I did the same. Application has been successfully deployed in the dm server. But when I tried to connect to URL it is giving me the error: SpringSource dm Server - Error report HTTP Status 503 - Servlet action is currently unavailable type: Status report message: Servlet action is currently unavailable description: The requested service (Servlet action is currently unavailable) is not currently available. What could be the reason for this? I am out of clues to solve this issue. Can you pass any help you may have. Thanks in anvance.

• shared library path inconsistent from one host to another

  I built my qt app so that all the Qt modules it uses are contained in the same directory as the executable. It works on the machine I used to build the app and I made sure to test this by removing those shared libraries everywhere except in the current directory of the app. Doing a ldd shows that its looking for those libraries in the current directory and putting the executable by itself fails to open the exectuable. So this is all good but when I transfer this directory to a host machine it still cant find those libraries. what could be the problem?

• Does business logic belong in the service layer?

  I've got a set of classes, namely, a data transfer object, a service implementation object, and a data access object. I currently have business logic in the service implementation object; it uses the dao to get data to populate the dto that is shipped back to the client/gui code. The issue is that I can't create a lightweight junit test of the service implementtion object(it's a servlet); I think the business logic should be elsewhere, but the only thing I can think of is putting business logic in the dao or in yet another layer that goes between the dao and the service implementation. Are there other options, or am I thinking about this the wrong way? It's a GWT/App Engine project.

(and assuming appropriate policies) is there a way to control which MIP the firewall selects for outbound connections initiated by 192.168.1.10? (presumably because I want the upstream 10.0.0.254 to do different things with the packet depending on what its source IP is). Update: OK, my scenario is this: I have two ISP uplinks, each giving me a different IP space. Each ISP will only route the IP space they have assigned me. So in order for the server to be reachable by both ISPs, I need two MIPs for the same server, one on each interface. Inbound traffic will work fine with the 'unset flow reverse-route clear-text' option in use. But for outbound (think an email server sending a message) I need a way to select an appropriate MIP depending on which outbound link I want the system to use, and I want this to be resiliant so that if the link the firewall prefers goes down overnight I don't have to manually flip something to keep the mail flowing. Basically I'm trying to avoid having to buy a link-balancer appliance (or two since I'll need a cluster). Is there a way to do this?

This works nicely, however as it is Python, the performance under high load won't be great. What I would like to do is have a "proxy" bind server sit in front of it to return results to the public internet. This will cache the results (typically 15 minutes, some records are a few seconds), so the load on the Python server will be greatly reduced as it will only see one look up per domain (only about 100 domains) every 15 minutes. The data in these domains changes a lot, so using a master won't work as it will constantly be changing. I have something setup that looked like it would work great (using a forwarder for the zone), and tested it with dig etc, all going great. However when we went to go live with it, things weren't working, and we figured out that named is not setting the "Authoritative" bit (fair enough, it is a forwarder). So my question is, can we tell bind to set the Authoritative bit for forwarded domains? I have looked at all the doco I can find, and can't find anything about doing things this way. Most of the doco about using it as a proxy if for a LAN to the internet. Ideally I would like to use bind as it is there and installed (CentOS 5 servers). But at a pinch we could look at a different name server to do the work if it just can't be done with bind. Thanks.

  Hi, I'm trying to optimize my page load times, and I'm using Pingdom to test the site response times. However, I'm not exactly sure what the various components of the "time bar" mean. Example link: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/?url=http://neosmart.net/forums//&id=2230361 According to them, the portion of the bar that is yellow is the time between "start" and "connect" and the portion of the bar that is green is the time between "connect" and "first byte" with the blue section being the actual transfer time (time between "first byte" and "last byte"). If I'm trying to the first two (which take very long in my case), what's the recommended course of action? Thanks.

• luntbuild + maven + findbugs = OutOfMemoryException

  Hi, I've been trying to get Luntbuild to generate and publish a project site for our project including a Findbugs report. All other reports (Cobertura, Surefire, JavaDoc, Dashboard) work fine, but Findbugs bails out with an OutOfMemoryException. Excluding findbugs from report generation fixes the build --- although obviously without a Findbugs report. The funny thing is that I first encountered this problem locally and solved it by setting MAVEN_OPTS=-Xmx512m. This does not seem to be enough in Luntbuild, however: setting that exact same option as an environment variable of my builder doesn't make a difference. I've found a couple of posts on the 'net stating you should also add -XX:MaxPermSize=512m to MAVEN_OPTS and/or pass -Dmaven.findbugs.jvmargs=-Xmx512m to mvn.bat. None of these (or their combination) seem to help though so any hints would be greatly appreciated!   I am attempting to import a Certificate into the Current User - Personal store using the command line "importpfx -f [certificate name.p12] -p [password] -t USER -s Personal". It works, but for reasons I don't understand there are now two Personal stores under the Current User, and the imported certificate is in the new Personal store. When I try to connect to the website of [well-known money transfer service], it fails. However, if I manually import the certificate using MMC into the original Personal store, it works. My question is: How can I force IMPORTPFX to import the certificate into the original Personal store, and how can I delete the new Personal store? Context: I need to do a silent import of certificates on 3000+ remote point-of-sale devices, so it needs to be a silent install via PSEXEC (SysInternals).

  I'm on a Web Hosting Buzz reseller account. They have some very stringent mail sending rules, including blocking of authenticated SMTP socket mail sending using PEAR. It was suggested in WHB forum that this was possible with sSMTP. • Use to host email for a domain name that wasn't our primary domain name

  Exchange 2007 on an Server 2003 active directory. My primary domain (MyMainDomain.com) controller also hosts dns and dhcp. I have a secondary domain name (MySecondDomain.net) that my Exchange Server allows emails from. It wasn't a physical domain, just accepted by exchange and setup as the Active Directory user's main smtp and outgoing address. Its MX records point to MyMainDomain.com's public exchange address. I've taken MySecondDomain.net and move the mail boxes to a hosted exchange 2010 environment. MX records now point to this new exchange system and when I send and email OUTSIDE the MyMainDomain.com environment (say gmail) it works and sends to the hosted exchange setup for MySecondDomain.net. however when I send an email from a user on MyMainDomain.com, it goes to the old exchange 2007 server I am hosting internally. I have removed MySecondDomain.net from the allowed domains, removed the DNS zone for MySecondDomain.net, and cleared DNS cache. I was convinced it was my internal dns server but I've cleared the DNS cache. Is there something I'm missing somewhere in exchange 2007? Or is it my domain controller/dns? Sorry if this is confusing.   I am helping a startup business to launch and I will be building or finding a shopping cart software for its website. There will only be one product for sale, but anytime someone buys a product, I have to use customer information like their zipcode and which distributor they bought from to calculate commissions that will go to the different distributors. All the incoming money will be sent to one sort of escrow account for a few weeks, and after that few weeks is over, I need to be able to "throw the switch" and cause each of the 20,000 distributors to get their rightful share of that escrow account, depending on the data stored that reflects their sales activity and commissions due. Is this something I can write a script to handle? Better yet, is this something an inexpensive or open source solution can handle, or something that can be setup in something like Paypal? Or is a better approach to somehow create a webpage where each distributor can login to and see their commissions due and initiate the account transfer on their own, but the web app restrict them from transferring more than what they're due?   Hi, I am getting a timeout exception when trying to use a net tcp endpoint through code that has no security and is streamed like so: NetTcpBinding binding = new NetTcpBinding(SecurityMode.None); binding.TransferMode = TransferMode.Streamed; binding.SendTimeout = TimeSpan.MaxValue; the same code would work if i just leave out the SecurityMode.None or choose SecurityMode.Transport, the exception is on a timeout that is too low, i tired adding all the timeouts for recive, send, open, close and set them all to Max and that didnt work. im using sample code from: http://csharp-codesamples.com/2009/02/data-transfer-using-self-hosted-wcf-service/ Any explenation as to how to use no security in this scenario would be appriciated.
