• Problem serving video to iPad from Mongrel 1.1.5 , RoR 2.0.2 on Mac OS 10.6.3 Server

  I am working off the Final Cut Server Integration sample provided by Apple that is a Rails app using 2.0.2 and runs on Mongrel 1.1.5. I can have a basic non-Ruby directory on my boot volume (Mac OS 10.6.3 Server) and can serve up video files just fine to iPad. However, when I drag the same video file into the 'public' area of the app running on -p 3000 it will not play on iPad, but will in Safari 4.0.5 desktop version. Images work fine so I know it's not a permissions issue. I'm getting the crossed-out play icon on iPad so it is not an issue of waiting on a large file to download before playing. I suspect it is a Mongrel/Snow Leopard issue but why would Safari on desktop work fine and not Safari iPad? • Sharepoint calendar webpart change views

  Hi there, I created a calendar list, and I added the calendar web part in another web part page. I noticed that i can not change the view without going to edit mode, then go to modify shared web part. But in the home page of the calendar. There is a same calendar web part with a drop down menu to change views. Also, there is a small calendar connected to the main calendar web part in the left navigation area. I don't know how to add it to my web part page. How can i make it look the same on my web part page? Thanks, Jason

• how big should your controllers be in asp.net-mvc

  i see the new feature of areas in asp.net-mvc 2. it got me thinking. why would i need this? i did some reading on the use cases and it came down to a specific point to me around how big and how broad scope should my controllers should be? should i try to have many little controllers? one big controller? how do people determine the sweet spot for number of controllers? i think mine are maybe too large (which had me questioning areas in the first place as maybe my controller name should really be an area and have a number of smaller controllers)

• Visual Web Developer 2005 Express loads very slowly

  I admit that I am not a guru of Visual Studio products at all. I am using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition and I'm trying to load someone else's project. This project happens to be a website with many pages. After loading VWD, it asks for a project to open and I select the solution file. It then proceeds to take an extremely long time to load. The status bar indicates that references are being loaded, many of which are in the System.Web.* area it seems. It seems like it's going back and forth between some different packages. The loading time is upwards of 20 to 30 minutes or more. Some others have stated that their projects open fine when they go to File Open Website... and choose the project directory from there. Any ideas what the problem could be and how to fix it? Edit: It finally completed loading after an hour approximately.

• Avoid painting over nested controls

  I am writing a toolbar-style control and use the ThemeServices unit to paint the background required by the toolbar. Like so: ThemeServices.DrawElement(Canvas.Handle, ThemeServices.GetElementDetails(trRebarRoot), ARect); I then drop child controls onto the toolbar and voila - instant toolbar. Except that every now and again I notice that the nested (child) controls don't repaint as well. So my control paints its background and the child controls disappear until you move the mouse over them. Some of the edit controls show their client area (no border) and some of them are just gone altogether. This happens mostly when I place a window from another application over the toolbar and move it away. I keep thinking this has to be very easy to cure, that perhaps I'm somehow preventing the paint message from reaching the child controls, or missing an override but I have been unable to figure it out.

• touchesBegan / Ended incorrectly identifying second, third, etc. touch

  I have an issue where touchesBegan and touchesEnded are incorrectly identifying my second, third, etc touch if I continue to hold down my first touch. If I lift my finger up off the first touch, then it will recognize the next touch just fine. It's only when I hold my first touch down continuously and then try and touch a different area with a different finger at the same time. It will then incorrectly register that second touch as being from the first touch again. • How to create a custom admin configuration panel in Django?

  Hi, I would like to create a configuration panel for the homepage of the web-app I'm designing with Django. This configuration panel should let me choose some basic options like highlighting some news, setting a showcase banner, and so on. Basically I don't need an app with different rows, but just a panel page with some configuration options. • I'm a professional Java developer, should I learn .NET?

  Java and .NET seem to have a great number of parallels especially in the web application area. Both languages have many of the same technologies especially in terms of open source libraries (JUnit and NUnit, Hibernate and NHibernate) but there are also plenty of differences and different approaches to solving certain software development problems. As a Java developer I get the feeling I'm missing out on learning about web application development from the .NET point of view and I could learn a lot about the general principles by learning two languages rather than getting stuck in the details of Java and not seeing the bigger picture. So the first question is, do you agree? Does learning two separate but similar languages such as Java and .NET make you a better programmer? Secondly, I'm worried that if I choose to take, for example, a MCPD ASP.NET 3.5 certification it won't actually help me get work doing .NET development because it goes against all my existing experience. Is trying to broaden your skills a good career choice or is it a better decision to choose one technology and stick with that?

  The only method in a StreamGeometryContext that seems related to ellipses is the ArcTo method. Unfortunately it is heavily geared to joining lines rather than drawing ellipses. In particular, the position of the arc is determined by a starting and ending point. For a full ellipse the two coincide obviously, and the exact orientation becomes undefined.   Hi Team, Can you offer a bit of advice. I am using a hosted SAAS CMS solution that enables you to create basing apps with a web apps system. I have created a form for members to submit a bunch of images and content to their own area. Everything is working great except if the images being submitted via the form are large, it takes ages for the form to submit and go to the thank you page. I am already using jQuery UI to split the form in to 5 steps and using the jQuery facebox plugin for instructional popups. My question is, what would be the best way to display a loading gif (in facebox or in another suggested overlay) while the form is being submitted? Thanks for your help! Jack

Now on the TextView this one is triggered correctly, and on all empty area. Just on the Button it doesn't invoke the onClick method that I set. Is this normal? What do I have to do so that the onClick method is invoked everywhere on the LinearLayout?

  While updating my apps to Kitkat, I just wanted to give them a gorgeous look on KitKat using the Translucent property: Translucent system bars You can now make the system bars partially translucent with new themes, Theme.Holo.NoActionBar.TranslucentDecor and Theme.Holo.Light.NoActionBar.TranslucentDecor. By enabling translucent system bars, your layout will fill the area behind the system bars, so you must also enable [fitsSystemWindows][4] for the portion of your layout that should not be covered by the system bars. My only concern is that I would like to use an ActionBar which sounds the opposite of what Google wants (both theme have NoActionBar: Theme.Holo.NoActionBar.TranslucentDecor Theme.Holo.Light.NoActionBar.TranslucentDecor As I don't plan to use some hacks or tricks to make it work, I just wanted to know if there was some correct way to achieve this or if this would be against Google guidelines.

I successfully compiled it without changing the code. But when I executed, it is giving me a value 0.25, what I am expecting is 3.14. Code description says it is in K&R C and it doesn't work correctly in ANSI C without some change. I think I have to do those modification to execute it properly. I don't have any previous experience with K&R C. So can someone help me to change above code to ANSI C or point to the problems if any. I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 to execute this.

• How to properly name record creation(insertion) datetime field ?

  If I create a table with datetime default getdate() field that is intended to keep date&time of record insertion, which name is better to use for that field ? I like to use Created and I've seen people use DateCreated or CreateDate. Other possible candidates that I can think of are: CreatedDate, CreateTime, TimeCreated, CreateDateTime, DateTimeCreated, RecordCreated, Inserted, InsertedDate, ... From my point of view anything with Date inside name looks bad because it can be confused with date part in case if I have 2 fields: CreateDate,CreateTime, so I wonder if there are any specific recommendations/standards in that area based on real reasons, not just style, mood or consistency. Of course, if there are 100 existing tables and this is table 101 then I would use same naming convention as used in those 100 tables for the sake of consistency, but this question is about first table in first database in first server in first application.

  I want to make a simple examing application on RoR 2.3. The problem area is to make an exam_session in a one form with only one submit action. For the exam session there are selected some number of questions from the question pool in random order. For these questions there are selected some number of alternatives (to check is this a single answer question or multi answer question I use the number of correct alternatives: if only 1 - single, 1 - multi. Radiobuttons or checkboxes in form to answer depends on it). I have models: Questions ---< Alternative and ExamSession. I think there must be has_many :through relations between ExamSession and Questions and has_many :through relation between the intermediate table (for example QuestionsExamSession) and Alternative to point what alternatives are answers of the student on this Question. So the questions are: Is this scheme is too complicated and there is a way to do it simple and clear? Is there any way to organize models in such a way to make the form I want to work?

  My knowledge of commandline bash is missing on a particular area: I constantly forget how to properly escape characters. Today I wanted to echo this string into a file: #!/bin/env bash python -m SimpleHTTPServer echo "#!/bin/env bash\npython -m SimpleHTTPServer" server.sh && chmod +x server.sh -bash: !/bin/env: event not found That's right: Remember to escape ! or bash will think it's a special bash event command. But I can't get the escaping right! \! yields \! in the echoed string, and so does \\!. Furthermore, \n will not translate to a line break. Do you have some general tips that makes it easier for me to understand escaping rules? To be very precise, I'll accept an answer which tells me which characters I should escape on the bash command line? Including how to correctly output newline and exclamation mark in my example.

• Algorithm to fill slots

  I am searching for an algorithm to fill several slots, which are already filled to some level. The current levels and the available quantity to fill are known Resulting levels should be as equal as possible, but existing level cannot be reduced Slots are filled from left to right, so left slots get higher level if equal level is impossible       The image above shows six examples, each column represents a slot. The grey area is already filled, the blue are is the expected position of the new elements. I could iterate through my slots and increase the quantity on the lowest slot by 1 until the available quantity is consumed, but I wonder about how to actually calculate the new filling levels. I am going to implement this with SQL/PL/SQL, other code is just as welcome though :)

  I've used the "FeatureList" Jquery Plugin to make my own content slider. The script can be found here: http://pastebin.com/7iyE5ADu Here is an exemplificative image to show what I'm triyng to achieve: http://i41.tinypic.com/6jkeq1.jpg Actually the slider add a "current" class to an item (in the example the squares 1,2 and 3) and for each thumb show a content in the main area. In the example, with an interval of 2 seconds, the script switch from 1 to 2, from 2 to 3, and so on. I'd like to make a continuous animation of the thumbs, anyone can help me?

However, most documentation that describes how the managed heap works depicts it as a linear data structure, such as a linked list or stack. So, is the managed heap actually a heap, or is it implemented with some other data structure? If it actually does not use a heap data structure, is seems like a significant failure of terminology to overload the meaning of this word. If it is in fact a heap data structure, what is the value that satisfies the heap property: the size of the allocated memory region?

• IE HTTPS Ajax request image not showing up

  Hi: In IE (7 or 8) and HTTPS mode, following RESPONSE is delivered for an AJAX request. My issue is the img was NOT requested at all by IE (figured out using Fiddler), broken img is shown instead. It all works perfectly in HTTP mode in IE and other browsers no problem rendering in both mode (please don't tell me not to use IE). Any thoughts/work-arounds/suggestions? • What is best practice with SQLite and Android ?

  What is considered "best practice" when executing queries on a sql-lite db within an android app. Is it safe to run inserts, deletes and select queries from an AsyncTask's doInBackground ? Or should I use the UI Thread ? I suppose that db queries can be "heavy" and should not use the UI thread as it can lock up the app - resulting in an ANR. If I have several AsyncTasks, should they share a connection or should they open a connection each ? Any best practices in this area on android?
