  • Practically expected transfer rates for sdhc class 6

    - by bobobobo
    I went and bought an expensive SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 8GB class 6 chip. However when I dump data from the card to the machine via USB 2.0 cable, its only getting 5.0 MB/second maximum according to Windows 7 disk explorer. It still can take up to 20 minutes to dump the card when its near full. This is so far below the rated 20MB/s transfer speed I can't believe it. Is this normal or might I have a defective chip?

  • Determining speed (class) of USB on PC

    - by Thomas Matthews
    Is there a method for determining the speed of a USB port on a Windows XP PC, without using a USB protocol analyzer? I'm looking for something simple, such as looking at the Device Manager. I would like to hook up some USB equipment to a USB 2.0 port, rather than the slower USB 1.0 or 1.1.

  • PHP Fatal error, trying to request method inside model multiple times

    - by Tom
    The error message [23-Mar-2010 08:36:16] PHP Fatal error: Cannot redeclare humanize() (previously declared in /Users/tmclssns/Sites/nadar/nadar/trunk/webapp/application/filer/models/Filer/Aggregate.php:133) in /Users/tmclssns/Sites/nadar/nadar/trunk/webapp/application/filer/models/Filer/Aggregate.php on line 133 I have a "Filer" model which contains several methods to generate graphs. Each method in there related to generating graphs has the suffix "Graph" in the method name. As we have some performance issues, I try to render the graphs in advance (using cron) instead of rendering them on each request. The code below is what I came up with: public function generategraphsAction() { $this->_helper->viewRenderer->setNoRender(); $config = Zend_Registry::get('config'); $id = $this->_getParam('filerid'); $filer = new Filer($id); $filer_methods = get_class_methods($filer); foreach ($filer_methods as $filer_method) { if (preg_match('/^(.*)Graph$/i', $filer_method, $matches)) { $path = $config->imaging_caching_dir . "/$id/{$matches[1]}.png"; $filer->$matches[0]($path); } } // var_dump(get_class_methods($filer)); die; } The result from the var_dump(), when uncommented, is: array 0 => string '__construct' (length=11) 1 => string 'find_by_name' (length=12) 2 => string 'getPartner' (length=10) 3 => string 'getSlots' (length=8) 4 => string 'getGroups' (length=9) 5 => string 'grouplist' (length=9) 6 => string 'getAggregates' (length=13) 7 => string 'getVolumes' (length=10) 8 => string 'getAggregateVolumes' (length=19) 9 => string 'getShelves' (length=10) 10 => string 'getAutoSupportHistory' (length=21) 11 => string 'getAutoSupportMail' (length=18) 12 => string 'getOrphans' (length=10) 13 => string 'getAll' (length=6) 14 => string 'getDiskRevOverview' (length=18) 15 => string 'getDiskTypeOverview' (length=19) 16 => string 'getDiskTypeSizeFunctionOverview' (length=31) 17 => string 'getLicenses' (length=11) 18 => string 'removeGroup' (length=11) 19 => string 'addGroup' (length=8) 20 => string 'hasGroup' (length=8) 21 => string 'aggdefaultGraph' (length=15) 22 => string 'aggbarGraph' (length=11) 23 => string 'voldefaultGraph' (length=15) 24 => string 'volbarGraph' (length=11) 25 => string 'replicationGraph' (length=16) 26 => string 'getReplicationData' (length=18) 27 => string 'humanize' (length=8) 28 => string 'getFiler' (length=8) 29 => string 'getOptions' (length=10) 30 => string 'getCifsInfo' (length=11) 31 => string 'getCifsStats' (length=12) 32 => string '__get' (length=5) 33 => string 'tr' (length=2) 34 => string 'trs' (length=3) 35 => string 'fieldList' (length=9) The generategraphsAction() method finds the 'Graph' methods correctly: array 0 => string 'aggdefaultGraph' (length=15) 1 => string 'aggdefault' (length=10) array 0 => string 'aggbarGraph' (length=11) 1 => string 'aggbar' (length=6) array 0 => string 'voldefaultGraph' (length=15) 1 => string 'voldefault' (length=10) array 0 => string 'volbarGraph' (length=11) 1 => string 'volbar' (length=6) array 0 => string 'replicationGraph' (length=16) 1 => string 'replication' (length=11) However when the first graph is generated, it generates the above listed PHP fatal error. Anyone can come up with a solution to this? I tried to pass by reference or switch a few things around (like re declare the Filer model, $current_filer = new Filer($id); and unset() it again after the request, but resulted in the same error) without much success. The referenced method "humanize" isn't used for anything I'm doing at the moment, but belongs to the Model because it's used in several other places. Of course, removing the method is not really an option right now, and the model contains several other methods as well so I assume if I just move the humanize method around, it will generate an error on the next one. For reference, the humanize() method: public function humanize ($kbytes, $unit = null) { // KiloByte, Megabyte, GigaByte, TeraByte, PetaByte, ExaByte, ZettaByte, YottaByte $units = array('KB', 'MB', 'GB', 'TB', 'PB', 'EB', 'ZB', 'YB'); if (null !== $units) { $i = array_search(substr($unit, -2), $units); if (! $i) { $i = floor((strlen($kbytes) - 1) / 3); } } else { $i = floor((strlen($kbytes) - 1) / 3); } $newSize = round($kbytes / pow(1024, $i), 2); return $newSize . $units[$i]; } Thanks in advance for the help offered.

  • Trying to reduce the speed overhead of an almost-but-not-quite-int number class

    - by Fumiyo Eda
    I have implemented a C++ class which behaves very similarly to the standard int type. The difference is that it has an additional concept of "epsilon" which represents some tiny value that is much less than 1, but greater than 0. One way to think of it is as a very wide fixed point number with 32 MSBs (the integer parts), 32 LSBs (the epsilon parts) and a huge sea of zeros in between. The following class works, but introduces a ~2x speed penalty in the overall program. (The program includes code that has nothing to do with this class, so the actual speed penalty of this class is probably much greater than 2x.) I can't paste the code that is using this class, but I can say the following: +, -, +=, <, > and >= are the only heavily used operators. Use of setEpsilon() and getInt() is extremely rare. * is also rare, and does not even need to consider the epsilon values at all. Here is the class: #include <limits> struct int32Uepsilon { typedef int32Uepsilon Self; int32Uepsilon () { _value = 0; _eps = 0; } int32Uepsilon (const int &i) { _value = i; _eps = 0; } void setEpsilon() { _eps = 1; } Self operator+(const Self &rhs) const { Self result = *this; result._value += rhs._value; result._eps += rhs._eps; return result; } Self operator-(const Self &rhs) const { Self result = *this; result._value -= rhs._value; result._eps -= rhs._eps; return result; } Self operator-( ) const { Self result = *this; result._value = -result._value; result._eps = -result._eps; return result; } Self operator*(const Self &rhs) const { return this->getInt() * rhs.getInt(); } // XXX: discards epsilon bool operator<(const Self &rhs) const { return (_value < rhs._value) || (_value == rhs._value && _eps < rhs._eps); } bool operator>(const Self &rhs) const { return (_value > rhs._value) || (_value == rhs._value && _eps > rhs._eps); } bool operator>=(const Self &rhs) const { return (_value >= rhs._value) || (_value == rhs._value && _eps >= rhs._eps); } Self &operator+=(const Self &rhs) { this->_value += rhs._value; this->_eps += rhs._eps; return *this; } Self &operator-=(const Self &rhs) { this->_value -= rhs._value; this->_eps -= rhs._eps; return *this; } int getInt() const { return(_value); } private: int _value; int _eps; }; namespace std { template<> struct numeric_limits<int32Uepsilon> { static const bool is_signed = true; static int max() { return 2147483647; } } }; The code above works, but it is quite slow. Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve performance? There are a few hints/details I can give that might be helpful: 32 bits are definitely insufficient to hold both _value and _eps. In practice, up to 24 ~ 28 bits of _value are used and up to 20 bits of _eps are used. I could not measure a significant performance difference between using int32_t and int64_t, so memory overhead itself is probably not the problem here. Saturating addition/subtraction on _eps would be cool, but isn't really necessary. Note that the signs of _value and _eps are not necessarily the same! This broke my first attempt at speeding this class up. Inline assembly is no problem, so long as it works with GCC on a Core i7 system running Linux!

  • Pass a Delphi class to a C++ function/method that expects a class with __thiscall methods.

    - by Alan G.
    I have some MSVC++ compiled DLL's for which I have created COM-like (lite) interfaces (abstract Delphi classes). Some of those classes have methods that need pointers to objects. These C++ methods are declared with the __thiscall calling convention (which I cannot change), which is just like __stdcall, except a this pointer is passed on the ECX register. I create the class instance in Delphi, then pass it on to the C++ method. I can set breakpoints in Delphi and see it hitting the exposed __stdcall methods in my Delphi class, but soon I get a STATUS_STACK_BUFFER_OVERRUN and the app has to exit. Is it possible to emulate/deal with __thiscall on the Delphi side of things? If I pass an object instantiated by the C++ system then all is good, and that object's methods are called (as would be expected), but this is useless - I need to pass Delphi objects. Edit 2010-04-19 18:12 This is what happens in more detail: The first method called (setLabel) exits with no error (though its a stub method). The second method called (init), enters then dies when it attempts to read the vol parameter. C++ Side #define SHAPES_EXPORT __declspec(dllexport) // just to show the value class SHAPES_EXPORT CBox { public: virtual ~CBox() {} virtual void init(double volume) = 0; virtual void grow(double amount) = 0; virtual void shrink(double amount) = 0; virtual void setID(int ID = 0) = 0; virtual void setLabel(const char* text) = 0; }; Delphi Side IBox = class public procedure destroyBox; virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure init(vol: Double); virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure grow(amount: Double); virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure shrink(amount: Double); virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure setID(val: Integer); virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure setLabel(text: PChar); virtual; stdcall; abstract; end; TMyBox = class(IBox) protected FVolume: Double; FID: Integer; FLabel: String; // public constructor Create; destructor Destroy; override; // BEGIN Virtual Method implementation procedure destroyBox; override; stdcall; // empty - Dont need/want C++ to manage my Delphi objects, just call their methods procedure init(vol: Double); override; stdcall; // FVolume := vol; procedure grow(amount: Double); override; stdcall; // Inc(FVolume, amount); procedure shrink(amount: Double); override; stdcall; // Dec(FVolume, amount); procedure setID(val: Integer); override; stdcall; // FID := val; procedure setLabel(text: PChar); override; stdcall; // Stub method; empty. // END Virtual Method implementation property Volume: Double read FVolume; property ID: Integer read FID; property Label: String read FLabel; end; I would have half expected using stdcall alone to work, but something is messing up, not sure what, perhaps something to do with the ECX register being used? Help would be greatly appreciated. Edit 2010-04-19 17:42 Could it be that the ECX register needs to be preserved on entry and restored once the function exits? Is the this pointer required by C++? I'm probably just reaching at the moment based on some intense Google searches. I found something related, but it seems to be dealing with the reverse of this issue.

  • how to use a class method as a WIN32 application callback method (WINPROC)... Error static struct HI

    - by numerical25
    I am receiving errors and at the same time trying to make this work so please read what I got to say. Thanks.... I am creating a c++ application and majority of the application is encapsulated into a class. That means that my WinProc function is a static class method that I use as my call back method for my win32 application. The problem is that since I created that as a win32 application, every class member I use inside that method has to be static as well. Including my HINSTANCE class which I use inside of it. Now I receive this error error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static struct HINSTANCE__ I need to figure out how to make this all work and below is my class declaration. • Recommended method for routing www to zone apex (naked domain) using AWS Route 53

    - by Dan Christian
    In my AWS Route 53 control panel I simply have 2 A records currently set up for the 'www' and the 'non www' names. Both point to the Elastic IP address associated with my EC2 Instance. This works well and my website is available at both variations but I really want all 'www' to route to the 'non www'. What is the reccomened method, using AWS Route 53, for routing all traffic that comes to... www.example.com to example.com

  • CSS Containers and Framing

    - by CaffeineAddiction
    I am attempting to code a dynamic object for use in an unordered list. I have a mock up of the HTML here: <ul class='Main'> <li class='Node'> <span class='Node_Light'> </span> <span class='Node_Control'> <span class='Ctrl_Name'> <span class='CtrlN_Text'>Random Name</span> <span class='CtrlN_Edit'>[%]</span> </span><br/> <span class='Ctrl_ID'>ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff</span><br/> <span class='Ctrl_Buttons'> <span class='CBttn_On'>[%]</span> <span class='CBttn_Off'>[%]</span> <span class='CBttn_Blink'>[%]</span> <span class='CBttn_Config'>[%]</span> <span class='CBttn_Graph'>[%]</span> </span> </span> <span class='Node_Data'> <span class='ND_Sens0'> <span class='Sens_Lable'>temp:</span> <span class='Sens_Data'>72</span> <span class='Sens_Units'>&#176;F</span> </span><br/> <span class='ND_Sens1'> <span class='Sens_Lable'>Sens1:</span> <span class='Sens_Data'>Off</span> <span class='Sens_Units'></span> </span><br/> <span class='ND_Sens2'> <span class='Sens_Lable'>Sens2:</span> <span class='Sens_Data'>Off</span> <span class='Sens_Units'></span> </span><br/> <span class='ND_Sens3'> <span class='Sens_Lable'>Sens3:</span> <span class='Sens_Data'>Off</span> <span class='Sens_Units'></span> </span><br/> <span class='ND_Sens4'> <span class='Sens_Lable'>Sens4:</span> <span class='Sens_Data'>Off</span> <span class='Sens_Units'></span> </span> </span> </li> </ul> and I am attempting to wrangle this HTML into something like: My first problem was that the 3x Outer elements would stack vertically instead of horizontally ... I solved this with the following CSS, but it doesnt feel like the right solution: ul { list-style-type: none; padding:0; margin:0; } .Node { } .Node_Light { height:6em; width:2em; position:absolute; border-style:solid; border-width:1px; } .Node_Control { height:6em; width:15em; position:absolute; left:2.55em; border-style:solid; border-width:1px; } .Node_Data { height:6em; width:6em; position:absolute; left:17.6em; border-style:solid; border-width:1px; } One thought was to use a table, but I dont think that is the correct solution either. Ideas? I would like to have the content dynamically resize on page resize and am not opposed to doing it all via JavaScript, but I have a feeling it would be more efficient to do it via CSS ... I just dont know where to begin.

  • Object oriented n-tier design. Am I abstracting too much? Or not enough?

    - by max
    Hi guys, I'm building my first enterprise grade solution (at least I'm attempting to make it enterprise grade). I'm trying to follow best practice design patterns but am starting to worry that I might be going too far with abstraction. I'm trying to build my asp.net webforms (in C#) app as an n-tier application. I've created a Data Access Layer using an XSD strongly-typed dataset that interfaces with a SQL server backend. I access the DAL through some Business Layer Objects that I've created on a 1:1 basis to the datatables in the dataset (eg, a UsersBLL class for the Users datatable in the dataset). I'm doing checks inside the BLL to make sure that data passed to DAL is following the business rules of the application. That's all well and good. Where I'm getting stuck though is the point at which I connect the BLL to the presentation layer. For example, my UsersBLL class deals mostly with whole datatables, as it's interfacing with the DAL. Should I now create a separate "User" (Singular) class that maps out the properties of a single user, rather than multiple users? This way I don't have to do any searching through datatables in the presentation layer, as I could use the properties created in the User class. Or would it be better to somehow try to handle this inside the UsersBLL? Sorry if this sounds a little complicated... Below is the code from the UsersBLL: using System; using System.Data; using PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSetTableAdapters; [System.ComponentModel.DataObject] public class UsersBLL { private UsersTableAdapter _UsersAdapter = null; protected UsersTableAdapter Adapter { get { if (_UsersAdapter == null) _UsersAdapter = new UsersTableAdapter(); return _UsersAdapter; } } [System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodAttribute (System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodType.Select, true)] public PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSet.UsersDataTable GetUsers() { return Adapter.GetUsers(); } [System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodAttribute (System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodType.Select, false)] public PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSet.UsersDataTable GetUserByUserID(int userID) { return Adapter.GetUserByUserID(userID); } [System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodAttribute (System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodType.Select, false)] public PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSet.UsersDataTable GetUsersByTeamID(int teamID) { return Adapter.GetUsersByTeamID(teamID); } [System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodAttribute (System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodType.Select, false)] public PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSet.UsersDataTable GetUsersByEmail(string Email) { return Adapter.GetUserByEmail(Email); } [System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodAttribute (System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodType.Insert, true)] public bool AddUser(int? teamID, string FirstName, string LastName, string Email, string Role, int LocationID) { // Create a new UsersRow instance PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSet.UsersDataTable Users = new PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSet.UsersDataTable(); PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSet.UsersRow user = Users.NewUsersRow(); if (UserExists(Users, Email) == true) return false; if (teamID == null) user.SetTeamIDNull(); else user.TeamID = teamID.Value; user.FirstName = FirstName; user.LastName = LastName; user.Email = Email; user.Role = Role; user.LocationID = LocationID; // Add the new user Users.AddUsersRow(user); int rowsAffected = Adapter.Update(Users); // Return true if precisely one row was inserted, // otherwise false return rowsAffected == 1; } [System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodAttribute (System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodType.Update, true)] public bool UpdateUser(int userID, int? teamID, string FirstName, string LastName, string Email, string Role, int LocationID) { PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSet.UsersDataTable Users = Adapter.GetUserByUserID(userID); if (Users.Count == 0) // no matching record found, return false return false; PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSet.UsersRow user = Users[0]; if (teamID == null) user.SetTeamIDNull(); else user.TeamID = teamID.Value; user.FirstName = FirstName; user.LastName = LastName; user.Email = Email; user.Role = Role; user.LocationID = LocationID; // Update the product record int rowsAffected = Adapter.Update(user); // Return true if precisely one row was updated, // otherwise false return rowsAffected == 1; } [System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodAttribute (System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodType.Delete, true)] public bool DeleteUser(int userID) { int rowsAffected = Adapter.Delete(userID); // Return true if precisely one row was deleted, // otherwise false return rowsAffected == 1; } private bool UserExists(PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSet.UsersDataTable users, string email) { // Check if user email already exists foreach (PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSet.UsersRow userRow in users) { if (userRow.Email == email) return true; } return false; } } Some guidance in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!! • Specifying $(this).val() for two different elements (by class)

    - by Chaya Cooper
    What would be the correct syntax for specifying 2 elements by class to evaluate their values when they have different classes? This snippet adds and/or removes values from "increase_priority1" when the user has selected both a complaint and ranked the importance level of the issue, however when I added the 2nd element (".complaint select") to the If Statement it stopped working properly and only accepts input from the 2nd item (Waist) after the 1rst item (Shoulders) has been selected. I believe the problem is that it's unable to determine which ".complaint select" to use, but I haven't been able to figure out how to use (this) for the 2nd element, or another similar approach. The complete function includes apx. 20 similar pairs of If Statements to set & unset other elements, and a working example with 4 pairs is available at http://jsfiddle.net/chayacooper/vWLEn/168/ I'm trying to avoid using ID's because that becomes pretty cumbersome to do for 25 Select elements and each of their values (ID's were also problematic because it stopped working when I added a 2nd element to the If Statement for removing/unsetting a value) Javascript var $increase_priority1 = $(".increase_priority1"); // If value is "Shoulders", complaint was Shoulders too small (select name=Shoulders value=Too_small) and it was assigned a level 1 priority (select class="ranking shoulders" value=1). // var's for other issues and priority levels go here $(".ranking, .complaint select").change(function() { var name = $(this).data("name"); //get priority name if ($(".complaint select").val() === "Too_small" && $(this).val() == 1 && !$(this).data("increase_priority1")) { //rank is 1, and not yet added to priority list $("<option>", {text:name, val:name}).appendTo($increase_priority1); $(this).data("increase_priority1", true); //flag as a priority item } if ($(this).data("increase_priority1") && ($(this).val() != 1 || $(".complaint select").val() != "Too_small")) { //is in priority list, but now demoted $("option[value=" + name + "]", $increase_priority1).remove(); $(this).removeData("increase_priority1"); //no longer a priority item } // Similar If Statements to set & unset other elements go here }); HTML <div> <label>To Increase - 1rst Priority <select name="modify_increase_1rst[]" class="increase_priority1" multiple> </select></label> </div> <div> <span class="complaint"> <label>Shoulders</label> <select name=Shoulders> <option value="null">Select</option><option value="Too_small">Too Small</option><option value="Too_big">Too Big</option><option value="Too_expensive">Too expensive</option> </select> </span> <label>Ranking</label> <select name="importance_bother_shoulders" class="ranking shoulders" data-name="Shoulders"> <option value="Null">Select</option><option value="1">1</option><option value="2">2</option><option value="3">3</option><option value="4">4</option> <option value="5">5</option> </select> </div> <div> <span class="complaint"> <label>Waist</label> <select name=Waist> <option value="null">Select</option><option value="Too_small">Too Small</option><option value="Too_big">Too Big</option><option value="Too_expensive">Too expensive</option> </select> </span> <label>Ranking</label> <select name="importance_bother_waist" class="ranking waist" data-name="Waist"> <option value="Null">Select</option><option value="1">1</option><option value="2">2</option><option value="3">3</option><option value="4">4</option> <option value="5">5</option> </select> </div>

  • Best method to auto-adjust on new displays (dsub)

    - by Shiki
    I'm not searching for a software, because they can't do this I guess. Basically on the latest displays (and even on older ones) there is an auto-adjust if you use the DSUB connection. That's OK, but it varies which page I go, where I press it. I'm searching for the best method to calibrate/adjust this.

  • How can I make vim show the current class and method I'm editing

    - by dcrosta
    Does anyone know if it's possible (or know of an existing vim script or plugin) that can create a "status bar" that shows the name of the current class and method (or function) I'm editing? I'm imagining that it would plug into the syntax parser for the filetype of the current buffer, and display a breadcrumb trail to show you what you're currently editing. I don't know vimscript well enough to suggest any more than that, but if there aren't any good solutions already, I may begin to hack on one, so suggestions as to where to start are welcome, too!

I am using the function "getDays()" to get the available days list and stored the data inside daysWithRecords, and final the UI datepicker's function "beforeShowDay()" called the function "checkAvailability()" to set the days. the variable "daysWithRecords" was declared inside Igtomw = function(elem , options) and was initialized inside the function getDays() I am using the function "initialWatchHistory()" to initialization and render the JQuery UI datepicker in the web. My problem is the function "checkAvailability()" cannot see the variable "daysWithRecords".The firebug prompts me that "daysWithRecords" is "undefined". this is the first time I write my first plugin. So .... Thank you very much for any help!!

  • Factory pattern vs ease-of-use?

    - by Curtis White
    Background, I am extending the ASP.NET Membership with custom classes and extra tables. The ASP.NET MembershipUser has a protected constructor and a public method to read the data from the database. I have extended the database structure with custom tables and associated classes. Instead of using a static method to create a new member, as in the original API: I allow the code to instantiate a simple object and fill the data because there are several entities. Original Pattern #1 Protected constructor > static CreateUser(string mydata, string, mydata, ...) > User.Data = mydata; > User.Update() My Preferred Pattern #2 Public constructor > newUser = new MembershipUser(); > newUser.data = ... > newUser.ComplextObject.Data = ... > newUser.Insert() > newUser.Load(string key) I find pattern #2 to be easier and more natural to use. But method #1 is more atomic and ensured to contain proper data. I'd like to hear any opinions on pros/cons. The problem in my mind is that I prefer a simple CRUD/object but I am, also, trying to utilize the underlying API. These methods do not match completely. For example, the API has methods, like UnlockUser() and a readonly property for the IsLockedOut

  • C# Path Ellipsis without Win32 API call revisited

    - by casterle
    I was searching for a way to insert an ellipsis in a C# path, and found an answer here on stackoverflow: http://tinyurl.com/y6rmdfr Using the RTM versions of VS2010 and .Net 4.0, I was unable to get the suggested method to work. I searched the 'Net and found example code that uses the same method, but it failed in the same way. You can see the string I'm trying to shorten in my code below. After calling the MeasureText method, both the input string (OriginalName) and the output string (ellipsisedName) look like this: d:\abcd\efgh\ijkl\mnop\qrst\...\test.txt\0F\GHIJ\KLMN\OPQR\STIV\WXYZ\test.txt Two problems: 1) The resulting string is narfed (the path is truncated as expected, but is followed by what looks like a C-style terminating null and a chunk of the original path). 2) My original string is changed to be identical to the output string. Am I doing something wrong? namespace WindowsFormsApplication2 { public partial class Form1 : Form { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); string OriginalPath = @"d:\abcd\efgh\ijkl\mnop\qrst\uvwx\yzAB\CDEF\GHIJ\KLMN\OPQR\STIV\WXYZ\test.txt"; string ellipsisedPath = OriginalPath; Size proposedSize = new Size(label1.Width, label1.Height); TextRenderer.MeasureText(ellipsisedPath, label1.Font, proposedSize, TextFormatFlags.ModifyString | TextFormatFlags.PathEllipsis); } } }

Please try again.</p> <?php unset($_POST['username']); unset($_POST['password']); $ui = new ui(); $ui->start(); } } private function check_credentials($plain_username, $md5_password) { global $dbcon; $userid = $dbcon->prepare('SELECT id FROM users WHERE username = :username AND password = :password LIMIT 1'); $userid->bindParam(':username', $plain_username); $userid->bindParam(':password', $md5_password); $userid->execute(); print_r($dbcon->errorInfo()); $id = $userid->fetch(); Return $id; } } And if it's any help, here's the class that's calling it: require_once("ac/acclass.php"); $ac = new ac(); $ac->dbconnect(); class ui { public function start() { if ((!isset($_POST['username'])) && (!isset($_POST['password']))) { $ui = new ui(); $ui->loginform(); } else { $ac = new ac(); $ac->authentication(); } } private function loginform() { ?> <form id="userlogin" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>" method="post"> User:<input type="text" name="username"/><br/> Password:<input type="password" name="password"/><br/> <input type="submit" value="submit"/> </form> <?php } }

  • How to call a C# DLL from InstallerClass overrides?

    - by simpleton
    I have a setup and deployment project. In it I have an Installer.cs class, created from the basic Installer Class template. In the Install override, I have this code taken from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/d9k65z2d.aspx. public override void Install(IDictionary stateSaver) { base.Install(stateSaver); System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("http://www.microsoft.com"); } Everything works when I install the application, but the problem arises when I try to call anything from an external C# class library that I also wrote. Example: public override void Install(IDictionary stateSaver) { base.Install(stateSaver); System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("http://www.microsoft.com"); MyLibrary.SomeMethod(); } The problem is, I don't believe the library call is actually happening. I tagged the entire process line by line, with EventLog.WriteEvent()s, and each line in the Install override is seemlingly 'hit', putting entries in the event log, but I do not receive any exceptions for the library call SomeMethod(), yet the EventLog entries and other actions inside SomeMethod() are never created nor any of its actions taken. Any ideas?

  • Unit Testing Refcounted Critical Section Class

    - by BillyONeal
    Hello all :) I'm looking at a simple class I have to manage critical sections and locks, and I'd like to cover this with test cases. Does this make sense, and how would one go about doing it? It's difficult because the only way to verify the class works is to setup very complicated threading scenarios, and even then there's not a good way to test for a leak of a Critical Section in Win32. Is there a more direct way to make sure it's working correctly? Here's the code: CriticalSection.hpp: #pragma once #include <windows.h> namespace WindowsAPI { namespace Threading { class CriticalSection; class CriticalLock { std::size_t *instanceCount; CRITICAL_SECTION * criticalStructure; bool lockValid; friend class CriticalSection; CriticalLock(std::size_t *, CRITICAL_SECTION *, bool); public: bool IsValid() { return lockValid; }; void Unlock(); ~CriticalLock() { Unlock(); }; }; class CriticalSection { std::size_t *instanceCount; CRITICAL_SECTION * criticalStructure; public: CriticalSection(); CriticalSection(const CriticalSection&); CriticalSection& operator=(const CriticalSection&); CriticalSection& swap(CriticalSection&); ~CriticalSection(); CriticalLock Enter(); CriticalLock TryEnter(); }; }} CriticalSection.cpp: #include "CriticalSection.hpp" namespace WindowsAPI { namespace Threading { CriticalSection::CriticalSection() { criticalStructure = new CRITICAL_SECTION; instanceCount = new std::size_t; *instanceCount = 1; InitializeCriticalSection(criticalStructure); } CriticalSection::CriticalSection(const CriticalSection& other) { criticalStructure = other.criticalStructure; instanceCount = other.instanceCount; instanceCount++; } CriticalSection& CriticalSection::operator=(const CriticalSection& other) { CriticalSection copyOfOther(other); swap(copyOfOther); return *this; } CriticalSection& CriticalSection::swap(CriticalSection& other) { std::swap(other.instanceCount, instanceCount); std::swap(other.criticalStructure, other.criticalStructure); return *this; } CriticalSection::~CriticalSection() { if (!--(*instanceCount)) { DeleteCriticalSection(criticalStructure); delete criticalStructure; delete instanceCount; } } CriticalLock CriticalSection::Enter() { EnterCriticalSection(criticalStructure); (*instanceCount)++; return CriticalLock(instanceCount, criticalStructure, true); } CriticalLock CriticalSection::TryEnter() { bool lockAquired; if (TryEnterCriticalSection(criticalStructure)) { (*instanceCount)++; lockAquired = true; } else lockAquired = false; return CriticalLock(instanceCount, criticalStructure, lockAquired); } void CriticalLock::Unlock() { if (!lockValid) return; LeaveCriticalSection(criticalStructure); lockValid = false; if (!--(*instanceCount)) { DeleteCriticalSection(criticalStructure); delete criticalStructure; delete instanceCount; } } }}

  • I need an abstract field !

    - by Jules Olléon
    I know abstract fields do not exist in java. I also read this question but the solutions proposed won't solve my problem. Maybe there is no solution, but it's worth asking :) Problem I have an abstract class that does an operation in the constructor depending on the value of one of its fields. The problem is that the value of this field will change depending on the subclass. How can I do so that the operation is done on the value of the field redefined by the subclass ? If I just "override" the field in the subclass the operation is done on the value of the field in the abstract class. I'm open to any solution that would ensure that the operation will be done during the instantiation of the subclass (ie putting the operation in a method called by each subclass in the constructor is not a valid solution, because someone might extend the abstract class and forget to call the method). Also, I don't want to give the value of the field as an argument of the constructor. Is there any solution to do that, or should I just change my design ?

  • Workaround for basic syntax not being parsed.

    - by Mark Tomlin
    I want to have a class property that allow for an expression to take place on the right side of the equals sign. All versions of PHP choke on the following code, but it is written in this way to allow for easier extendibility in the future. /* Example SDK Class */ class SDK { /* Runtime Option Flags */ // Strings # 0: Makes no change to the strings. var $STRING_NONE = (1 << 0); # 1: Removes color codes from the string. var $STRING_STRIP_COLOR = (1 << 1); # 2: Removes language codes from the string. var $STRING_STRIP_LANG = (1 << 2); # 3: Removes all formatting from the string. var $STRING_STRIP = SELF::STRING_STRIP_COLOR & SELF::STRING_STRIP_LANG; # 4: Converts color codes to HTML & UTF-8. var $STRING_HTML = (1 << 3); # 8: Converts color codes to ECMA-48 escape color codes & UTF-8. var $STRING_CONSOLE = (1 << 4); # 16: Changes player names only. var $STRING_NAMES = (1 << 5); # 32: Changes host names only. var $STRING_HOSTS = (1 << 6); function SDK($fString = SELF::STRING_HTML & SELF::STRING_NAMES & SELF_HOST) { // constructor code. } } $SDK &= new SDK(SDK::STRING_NONE); (1 << 0) seems like very basic syntax to me, and is not fathomable why PHP would not allow for such a thing. Can anyone think of a work around that would maintain readability and future expandability of the following code?
