• Efficient algorithm to find first available name

  I have an array containing names of items. I want to give the user the option to create items without specifying their name, so my program will have to supply a unique default name, like "Item 1". The challenge is that the name has to be unique so i have to check all the array for that default name, and if there is an item with the same name i have to change the name to be "Item 2" and so on until i find an available name. The obvious solution will be something like that: String name; for (int i = 0 , name = "Item " + i ; !isAvailable(name) ; i++); My problem with that algorithm is that it runs at O(N^2). I wonder if there is a known (or new) more efficient algorithm to solve this case. In other words my question is this: Is there any algorithm that finds the first greater-than-zero number that dose NOT exist in a given array, and runs at less that N^2? Thanks!

  I have the following image in a CMS that I want to hide, I dont really want to change source code but would like to hide a specific image which does not have a class applied. Here is the HTML: <td class="right side"> <a title="Show only topic 1" href="view.php?id=3&topic=1"> <img alt="Show only topic 1" src="http://vl3.co.uk/iphone/pix/i/one.gif"/> </a> <br/> </td> I want to hide the <a> and the <img>, bare in mind the title and alt tag can be different so cant use that as an identifier. I presume I could use .find() and then use .parent() to set the <a> to display: none; thus hiding the img? Im inlcuding the jQuery library, however the CMS has YUI included out of the box so if anyone has a YUI method it would be appreicated.

• How to find the leaky faucet that loads into Malloc 32kb

  I have been messing around with Leaks trying to find which function is not being deallocated (I am still new to this) and could really use some experienced insight. I have this bit of code that seems to be the culprit. Every time I press the button that calls this code, 32kb of memory is additionally allocated to memory and when the button is released that memory does not get deallocated. What I found was that everytime that AVAudioPlayer is called to play an m4a file, the final function to parse the m4a file is MP4BoxParser::Initialize() and this in turn allocates 32kb of memory through Cached_DataSource::ReadBytes My question is, how do I go about deallocating that after it is finished so that it doesn't keep allocating 32kb every time the button is pressed? • regex php: find everything in div

  I'm trying to find eveything inside a div using regexp. I'm aware that there probably is a smarter way to do this - but I've chosen regexp. so currently my regexp pattern looks like this: $gallery_pattern = '/([\s\S]*)<\/div/'; And it does the trick - somewhat. the problem is if i have two divs after each other - like this. <div class="gallery">text to extract here</div> <div class="gallery">text to extract from here as well</div> I want to extract the information from both divs, but my problem, when testing, is that im not getting the text in between as a result but instead: "text to extract here text to extract from here as well" So . to sum up. It skips the first end of the div. and continues on to the next. The text inside the div can contain "<", "/" and linebreaks. just so you know! Does anyone have a simple solution to this problem? Im still a regexp novice.

You will realize that it did not get a real answer. I hope to get a full answer (rather than a workaround) from this question. When I create a class that descends from Control and uses generics, that class fails to load in the designer. Here is and example: class OwnerDrawnListBox<T> : System.Windows.Forms.Control { private readonly List<T> _items; // Other list box private stuff here public OwnerDrawnListBox() { _items = new List<T>(); } // More List box code } I then use this in my designer: private OwnerDrawnListBox<Bag> lstAvailable; private void InitializeComponent() { // Used to be System.Windows.Forms.ListBox(); this.lstAvailable = new ARUP.ScanTrack.Mobile.OwnerDrawnListBox<Bag>(); // Other items } If the generic class is subclassed (to a non-generic) then the referenced question says that it works fine (ie if I made Class BagOwnerDrawListBox: OwnerDrawnListBox<Bag>). What I want to know is there a way to "fix" this so that the generic item is accepted by the designer? Side Note: I am using the Compact Framework.

I installed Java 1.7.0 in the following folder C:\Program Files\Java The environment variable which I set are CLASSPATH : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0\jre\lib\rt.jar; Path : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0\bin; JAVA_HOME : C:\Program Files\Java; I have presented here the class names which are in my system. Next I wrote a program(HelloWorld.java) import java.io.*; class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Hello World!"); } } When I am compiling using javac HelloWorld.java it is compiling fine.   Hi All, I have a tricky problem that I'm trying to find the most effective method to solve. Here's a simplified version of my View structure. Table: Audits AuditID | PublicationID | AuditEndDate | AuditStartDate 1 | 3 | 13/05/2010 | 01/01/2010 2 | 1 | 31/12/2009 | 01/10/2009 3 | 3 | 31/03/2010 | 01/01/2010 4 | 3 | 31/12/2009 | 01/10/2009 5 | 2 | 31/03/2010 | 01/01/2010 6 | 2 | 31/12/2009 | 01/10/2009 7 | 1 | 30/09/2009 | 01/01/2009 There's 3 query's that I need from this. I need to one to get all the data. The next to get only the history data (that is, everything but exclude the latest data item by AuditEndDate) and then the last query is to obtain the latest data item (by AuditEndDate). There's an added layer of complexity that I have a date restriction (This is on a per user/group basis) where certain user groups can only see between certain dates.   Suppose you have a generic interface and an implementation: public interface MyInterface<T> { void foo(T param); } public class MyImplementation<T> implements MyInterface<T> { void foo(T param) { } } These two types are frework types. In the next step I want allow users to extend that interface as well as redeclare foo(T param) to maybe equip it with further annotations. public interface MyExtendedInterface extends MyInterface<Bar> { @Override void foo(Bar param); // Further declared methods } I create an AOP proxy for the extended interface and intercept especially the calls to furtherly declared methods. As foo(…) is no redeclared in MyExtendedInterface I cannot execute it by simply invoking MethodInvocation.proceed() as the instance of MyImplementation only implements MyInterface.foo(…) and not MyExtendedInterface.foo(…). So is there a way to get access to the method that declared a method initially? Regarding this example is there a way to find out that foo(Bar param) was declared in MyInterface originally and get access to the accoriding Method instance? I already tried to scan base class methods to match by name and parameter types but that doesn't work out as generics pop in and MyImplementation.getMethod("foo", Bar.class) obviously throws a NoSuchMethodException. I already know that MyExtendedInterface types MyInterface to Bar. So If I could create some kind of "typed view" on MyImplementation my math algorithm could work out actually.

  I am trying to figure out how to find the last entry of a string in multiple config files across a server. Each of the strings will be in the /home/***usernamewouldbehere/public_html/typo3conf/localconf.php file In short - the last entry in the config files will point to the database server the application is utilizing - and we need to know which accounts point to which db server. While I can run something like this - grep "$_db_host" /home/*/public_html/conf/localconf.php It does not really help much because it gives us way to much information ... and not what we really need. What i really need to know is the last entry of this string $_db_host = 'xx'; and to sort them out in an export file Since the config files may have multiple entries (example below) $_db_host = 'localhost'; $_db_host = '10.0.1.234'; It would be great to list in a file all of those that have the entry for 'localhost' and then list all of those that have the entry for '10.0.1.234' (or whichever server there may be there) but even if I need to do that manually that would be great. I am not sure how to get to it using Awk - ... and really stuck What I am hoping for is something that would be piped as follows db_host = localhost /home/username1/www/conf/localconf.php db_host = localhost / home/username2/public_html/conf/localconf.php db_host= '10.1.2.23' /home/username55/public_html/conf/localconf.php hoping that helps you help me :-)

• Rails Active Record Mysql find query HAVING clause

  Is there a way to use the HAVING clause in some other way without using group by. I am using rails and following is a sample sccenario of the problem that i am facing. In rails you can use the Model.find(:all,:select,conditions,:group) function to get data. In this query i can specify a having clause in the :group param. But what if i dont have a group by clause but want to have a having clause in the result set. Ex: Lets take a query select sum(x) as a,b,c from y where "some_conditions" group by b,c; This query has a sum() aggregation on one of the fields. No if there is nothing to aggregate then my result should be an empty set. But mysql return a NULL row. So this problem can be solved by using select sum(x) as a,b from y where "some_conditions" group by b having a NOT NULL; but what happens in case i dont have a group by clause?? a query like below select sum(x) as a,b from y where "some_conditions"; so how to specify that sum(x) should not be NULL? Any solution that would return an empty set in this case instead of a NULL row will help and also that solution should be doable in rails. We can use subqueries to get this condition working with sumthin like this select * from ((select sum(x) as b FROM y where "some_condition") as subq) where subq.b is not null; but is there a better way to do this thru sql/rails ??

• c# calling process "cannot find the file specified"

  I'm a c# newbie so bear with me. I'm trying to call "pslist" from PsTools from a c# app, but I keep getting "The system cannot find the file specified". I thought I read somewhere on google that the exe should be in c:\windows\system32, so I tried that, still nothing. Even trying the full path to c:\windows\system32\PsList.exe is not working. • Java swing app can't find image

  Hello, I'm making a torpedo game for school in java with swing gui, please see the zipped source HERE. I use custom button icons and mouse cursors of images stored in the /bin/resource/graphics/default folder's subfolders, where the root folder is the program's root folder (it will be the root in the final .jar as well I suppose) which apart from "bin" contains a "main" folder with all the classes. The relative path of the resources is stored in MapStruct.java's shipPath and mapPath variables. Now Battlefield.java's PutPanel class finds them all right and sets up its buttons' icons fine, but every other class fail to get their icons, e.g. Table.java's setCursor, which should set the mouse cursor for all its elements for the selected ship's image or Field.java's this.button.setIcon(icon); in the constructor, which should set the icon for the buttons of the "water". I watched with debug what happens, and the images stay null after loading, though the paths seem to be correct. I've also tried to write a test file in the image folder but the method returns a filenotfound exception. I've tried to get the path of the class to see if it runs from the supposed place and it seems it does, so I really can't find the problem now. Could anyone please help me? Thank you.

• Find the Algorithm that generates the checksum

  I have a sensing device that transmits a 6-byte message along with an 1-byte counter and supposely a checksum. The data looks something like this: ------DATA----------- -Counter- --Checksum?-- 55 FF 00 00 EC FF ---- 60---------- 1F The last four bits in the counter are always set 0, i.e those bits are probably not used. The last byte is assumed to be the checksum since it has a quite peculiar nature. It tends to randomly change as data changes. Now what i need is to find the algorithm to compute this checksum based on --DATA--. what i have tried is all possible CRC-8 polynomials, for each polynomial i have tried to reflect data, toggle it, initiate it with non-zeroes etc etc. Ive come to the conclusion that i am not dealing with a normal crc-algorithm. I have also tried some flether and adler methods without succes, xor stuff back and forth but still i have no clue how to generate the checksum. My biggest concern is, how is the counter used??? Same data but with different countervalue generates different checksums. I have tried to include the counter in my computations but without any luck. Here are some other datasamples: 55 FF 00 00 F0 FF A0 38 66 0B EA FF BF FF C0 CA 5E 18 EA FF B7 FF 60 BD F6 30 16 00 FC FE 10 81 One more thing that might be worth mentioning is that the last byte in the data only takes on the values FF or FE Plz if u have any tips or tricks that i may try post them here, I am truly desperate.   Please see attached image I have a table which have FromDate and ToDate. FromDate is start of some event and ToDate is end of taht event. I need to find a record if search criteria is in between range of dates. e.g. If a record has FromDate 2010/15/5 and ToDate 2010/15/25 and my criteria is FromDate 2010/5/18 and ToDate is 2010/5/21 then this record should be in search results becasue this is in the range of 15 to 25.   In my outlook I have 1 exchange connection and 2 Personal Folders.   Many tools/APIs provide ways of selecting elements of specific classes or IDs. There's also possible to inspect the raw stylesheets loaded by the browser. However, for browsers to render an element, they'll compile all CSS rules (possibly from different stylesheet files) and apply it to the element. This is what you see with Firebug or the WebKit Inspector - the full CSS inheritance tree for an element. How can I reproduce this feature in pure JavaScript without requiring additional browser plugins? Perhaps an example can provide some clarification for what I'm looking for: <style type="text/css"> p { color :red; } #description { font-size: 20px; } </style> <p id="description">Lorem ipsum</p> Here the p#description element have two CSS rules applied: a red color and a font size of 20 px. I would like to find the source from where these computed CSS rules originate from (color comes the p rule and so on).

Is it possible somehow with jQuery to find the common elements and add a class to the divs in #set1 that have the same id with divs in #set2?   I try to find a next or prev element of current element. But next() and prev() function can only work in a scope, it can not reach outside.
