• Transferring DHCP using Windows Server Migration Tool - Why is Powershell is crashing on the import of the .mig file?

  I am migrating DHCP from a windows server 2003R2 DC to a Windows Server 2008R2 DC I've followed this video and its predecessor (Installing Windows Server Migration Tools) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/video/migrating-dhcp-using-the-windows-server-2008-r2-migration-tools.aspx I went through everything smoothly until the last step. I have exported a .mig file with my DHCP configuration on the old 2003r2 server. I transferred this .mig file over to my 2008R2 server, when running the import command, it will appear to work for a minute or two and then I get a generic windows "Powershell has stopped working" error and I have to close the program. Under the problem details I see the following: FileVersionOfSystemManagementAutomation: 6.1.7600.16385 InnermostExceptionType: System.AccessViolationException OutermostExceptionType: System.AccessViolationException DeepestPowerShellFrame: unknown OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.272.7 LocaleID: 1033 Seems like there are permissions issues maybe? I am running powershell as an admin and am logged in to the server as a domain administrator. Any Ideas? Thanks

Features wanted: IMDB import fields: director, genre, year, actors,... covers manage DVD / BD / ripped AVIs, MKV moving/renaming files according fields I want to achieve something like: M:\Movies\Director\year. title (genre).avi A syntax that lets me choose how I organize my files (like foobar2000 & mp3 files) according IMDB and personal tags would be great. Auto fetch covers and listing of not-yet-ripped/yet-to-be-seen/wanted/loaned movies (txt, HTML or whatever) would be some nice features too.

• Is there a way to import a scheduled task from windows 2003 (.job) to windows 2008 (.xml)?

  I had some jobs to be moved from the old production server (windows 2003 server standard) to the new machine (windows 2008 server standard), but the new server is unable to read the old .job format, also the import wizard only imports from .xml job files (same version). Obviously I don't want to rebuild all the jobs by hand, but can't find a tool that makes the process a very little easier. I don't trust in Microsoft for this kind of tools, my previously experiences had been to bad (DTS - SSIS). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

• Trying to get a new user up on pfSense IPSec VPN; Config file import failed, now getting gateway err

  Caveat: I am not a sysadmin, so please forgive the n00bness of the query. We have a new user and I'm trying to get them up on VPN. We use pfsense as an IPSEC endpoint. This person is using Shrewsoft for the client. I had created an entry in pfsense for them and then edited a previous user's config file. Shrewsoft didn't import the config file very well and I had to hand edit the information. Now we are getting gateway errors. One thing I've noticed is that there is a different between the values of the preshared key stored on the firewall and the psk stored in the config file. I assume it has something to do with a hash, but I've no idea if that's the case and whether that might be what's causing the problem. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Tangentially, is there some software used to generate these config files?

• How can I convert an ordinary text file to a .csv file, and import it to Excel?

  I have a group of names and addresses that I would like to import into Outlook. At the moment I have imported them into Excel, but all names and addresses are in one long entry. All are already separated by a comma. How can I get Excel to select each "value" and move it to a separate cell? Edit: I had already tried taking a text file and saving it as a .csv file. However, all contacts load into a single cell. I am using Excel 2003. Thanks.

• How to build MVC Views that work with polymorphic domain model design?

  This is more of a "how would you do it" type of question. The application I'm working on is an ASP.NET MVC4 app using Razor syntax. I've got a nice domain model which has a few polymorphic classes, awesome to work with in the code, but I have a few questions regarding the MVC front-end. Views are easy to build for normal classes, but when it comes to the polymorphic ones I'm stuck on deciding how to implement them. The one (ugly) option is to build a page which handles the base type (eg. IContract) and has a bunch of if statements to check if we passed in a IServiceContract or ISupplyContract instance. Not pretty and very nasty to maintain. The other option is to build a view for each of these IContract child classes, breaking DRY principles completely. Don't like doing this for obvious reasons. Another option (also not great) is to split the view into chunks with partials and build partial views for each of the child types that are loaded into the main view for the base type, then deciding to show or hide the partial in a single if statement in the partial. Also messy. I've also been thinking about building a master page with sections for the fields that only occur in subclasses and to build views for each subclass referencing the master page. This looks like the least problematic solution? It will allow for fairly simple maintenance and it doesn't involve code duplication. What are your thoughts? Am I missing something obvious that will make our lives easier? Suggestions?

• Any Practical Alternative to the Signals + Slots model for GUI Programming?

  The majority of GUI Toolkits nowadays use the Signals + Slots model. It was Qt and GTK+, if I am not wrong, who pioneered it. You know, the widgets or graphical objects (sometimes even ones that aren't displayed) send signals to the main-loop handler. The main-loop handler then calls the events, callbacks or slots assigned for that widget / graphical object. There are usually default (and in most cases virtual) event-handlers already provided by the toolkit for handling all pre-defined signals, therefore, unlike previous designs where the developer had to write the entire main-loop and handler for each and every message himself (think WINAPI), the developer only has to worry about the signals he needs to implement new functionality on. Now this design is being used in most modern toolkits as far as I know. There are Qt, GTK+, FLTK etc. There is Java Swing. C# even has a language feature for it ( events and delegates ), and Windows Forms has been developed on this design. In fact, over the last decade, this design for GUI programming has become a kind of an unwritten standard. Since it increases productivity and provides greater abstraction. However, my question is: Is there any alternative design, that is parallel or practical for modern GUI programming? i.e Is the Signals + Slots design, the only practical one in town? Is it feasible to do GUI Programming with any other design? Are any modern (preferably successful and popular) GUI toolkits built on an alternative design?

• Why is an anemic domain model considered bad in C#/OOP, but very important in F#/FP?

  In a blog post on F# for fun and profit, it says: In a functional design, it is very important to separate behavior from data. The data types are simple and "dumb". And then separately, you have a number of functions that act on those data types. This is the exact opposite of an object-oriented design, where behavior and data are meant to be combined. After all, that's exactly what a class is. In a truly object-oriented design in fact, you should have nothing but behavior -- the data is private and can only be accessed via methods. In fact, in OOD, not having enough behavior around a data type is considered a Bad Thing, and even has a name: the "anemic domain model". Given that in C# we seem to keep borrowing from F#, and trying to write more functional-style code; how come we're not borrowing the idea of separating data/behavior, and even consider it bad? Is it simply that the definition doesn't with with OOP, or is there a concrete reason that it's bad in C# that for some reason doesn't apply in F# (and in fact, is reversed)? (Note: I'm specifically interested in the differences in C#/F# that could change the opinion of what is good/bad, rather than individuals that may disagree with either opinion in the blog post).

  I believe the scenario is common mostly in business workflows - for example: loan management the process starts with a loan application, then there's the loan offer, the 'live' loan, and maybe also finished loans. all these objects are related, and share many fields all these objects have also many fields that are unique for each entity the variety of objects maybe large, and the transformation between the may not be linear (for example: a single loan application may end up as several loans of different types) How would you model this? some options: an entity for each type, each containing the relevant fields (possibly grouping related fields as sub entities) - leads to duplication of data. an entity for each object, but instead of duplicating data, each object has a reference to it's predecessor (the loan doesn't contain the loaner details, but a reference to the loan application) - this causes coupling between the object structure, and the way it was created. if we change the loan application, it shouldn't effect the structure of the loan entity. one large entity, with fields for the whole life cycle - this can create 'mega objects' with many fields. it also doesn't work well when there's a one to many or many to many relation between the phases.

  Rob Napier, the author of iOS 5 Programming Pushing the Limits, mentioned there are several models of selling apps on the App Store: Write an app and sell it Publish a free and a full version Ad supported by third party or by iAd In App purchase Surprisingly, the author said that the most workable model is (1) in terms of sales. I would think that (2) with fairly limiting ability for the free version can bring more sales, as people without trying, might not plunge down $0.99 or $1.99 for something they haven't tried? I for one, might not have purchased Angry Birds if I didn't try their free version first. Also, I think it also depends on the situation: if the app is about alarm clock, and there are already 5 alarm clocks in App Store that are free, then your app that is $0.99 might not be that eagerly purchased. If yours is also free, and users really like it out of all the other ones, then they may think, $0.99 is nothing to get a good alarm clock, and gladly pay you the $0.99 in exchange for a full version of the alarm clock, something that they can't get with the free version. (such as the full version can let you choose a song from your Music Library for the alarm). Could (1) work only if the user definitely want it and have no substitute? How might it work the best?

• EntityManager injection works in JBoss 7.1.1 but not WebSphere 7

  I've built an EJB that will manage my database access. I'm building a web app around it that uses Struts 2. The problem I'm having is when I deploy the ear, the EntityManager doesn't get injected into my service class (and winds up null and results in NullPointerExceptions). The weird thing is, it works on JBoss 7.1.1 but not on WebSphere 7. You'll notice that Struts doesn't inject the EJB, so I've got some intercepter code that does that. My current working theory right now is that the WS7 container can't inject the EntityManager because of Struts for some unknown reason. My next step is to try Spring next, but I'd really like to get this to work if possible. I've spent a few days searching and trying various things and haven't had any luck. I figured I'd give this a shot. • Jquery-UI tabs : Double loading of the default tab

I tried putting a different placeholder for each tab, but that didn't fix everything either, since when loading "/Forums" it will sure load the forum tab, but the Blog tab will show up first. Furthermore, when using separate placeholders, If I load the "/Blogs" url, It will first load the content statically in the Blog contentplaceholder and then trigger an ajax call to load it a second time and replace it. If I just link the tab to the hashtag, then when loading the forum tabs, I won't get the blog content... How would you achieve the expected behaviour? I feel like I might have a deeper probelm in the organization of my views. Is putting the tabs in the masterpage the way to go? Maybe I should just hijax the links manually and not rely on jquery-ui tabs to do the work for me. I cannot load all tabs by default and display them using the hash tags, I need an ajax loading because it is a search process that can be long. So to sum up : /Forum should load the forum tab, and let the other tabs be loaded with an ajax call when clicking on it. /Twitter should load the twitter tab and let the other tabs.... the same goes for /Blogs and any tabs I would add later. Any idea to have this working properly?

• Reinserted a RAID disk. Defined as foreign. Is import or clear the correct choice?

  I have re-inserted a RAID disk, on a DELL server with Windows Server 2008. The drive-status indicator was changing between a green and amber light, and the monitor gave the following message: There are offline or missing virtual drives with preserved cache. Please check the cables and ensure that all drives are present. Press any key to enter the configuration utility. I pressed a key and the PERC 6/I Integrated BIOS Configuration Utility showed that the RAID Status for that disk was Offline. After reinsertion of the disk the monitor is giving the following message: Foreign configuration(s) found on adapter. Press any key to continue or ‘C’ load the configuration utility, or press ‘F’ to import foreign configuration(s) and continue. After checking around on the net I am uncertain if I should choose import or clear. I cannot find out if an import means importing information from the array/system to the now foreign disk or the other way, i.e. importing information from the foreign disk to the array/system that was actually working fine. Also; if clear is a necessary thing to do ahead of a rebuild of that disk, or if clear means to clear the system to somehow make it ready to import the information from the foreign disk to the array/system, which is not what I want. I imagine that making the wrong choice here might be fatal. Please help clearing this out by telling what to choose and why.

  Hi ! I'm currently doing a firewall management application for Django, here's the (simplified) model : class Port(models.Model): number = models.PositiveIntegerField(primary_key=True) application = models.CharField(max_length=16, blank=True) class Rule(models.Model): port = models.ForeignKey(Port) ip_source = models.IPAddressField() ip_mask = models.IntegerField(validators=[MaxValueValidator(32)]) machine = models.ForeignKey("vmm.machine") What I would like to do, however, is to display to the user a form for entering rules, but with a very different organization than the model : Port 80 O Not open O Everywhere O Specific addresses : --------- delete field --------- delete field + add address field Port 443 ... etc Where Not open means that there is no rule for the given port, Everywhere means that there is only ONE rule (0.0.0.0/0) for the given port, and with specific addresses, you can add as many addresses as you want (I did this with JQuery), which will make as many rules. Now I did a version completely "handmade", meaning that I create the forms entirely in my templates, set input names with a prefix, and parse all the POSTed stuff in my view (which is quite painful, and means that there's no point in using a web framework). I also have a class which aggregates the rules together to easily pre-fill the forms with the informations "not open, everywhere, ...".   Hello, I first used primefaces FileUpload component and it didn't work. Always gave "HTTP Error". So i thought there is some bug with this component and went to plain old JQuery and tried using uploadify. But still i get the same error. I am using Container Managed Security. Is this the reason for not working properly?   I'm using some custom tasks from MSBuild Extension Pack (MEP). My projects are splitted among many files. In those files I import the MEP tasks using (twice or three times in two/three files). I receive the warning message when doing this like: ... warning MSB4011: "C:\Program Files\MSBuild\ExtensionPack\MSBuild.ExtensionPack.tasks" cannot be imported again. It was already imported at "D:...\Tasker.proj (5,3)". This is most likely a build authoring error. This subsequent import will be ignored. Does anyone know how to get rid of this warning message? Please help!

  I am trying to get client validation working in MVC3 using data annotations. I have looked at similar posts including this MVC3 Client side validation not working for the answer. I'm using an EF data model. I created a partial class like this for my validations. • Best way to gather, then import data into drupal?

  I am building my first database driven website with Drupal and I have a few questions. I am currently populating a google docs excel spreadsheet with all of the data I want to eventually be able to query from the website (after it's imported). Is this the best way to start? If this is not the best way to start what would you recommend? My plan is to populate the spreadsheet then import it as a csv into the mysql db via the CCK Node.
