• No Debug information of an iPhone app

  Hi all, I wrote an iPhone app which uses a third party library. I crosscompiled this library successfully and everything works smoothly. But when I want to debug the application, it would make sense to also be able to debug the library. So I compiled also the external library with debuging information (usign the gcc option -ggdb). But when I want to debug it, I get the correct symbol names, but the positions are always wrong/extremly wierd (locale_facets.tcc:2505 or iostream:76). • passenger won't spawn more than 6 instances despite passenger_max_pool_size = 30

  I have some problems with passenger + nginx and hope someone might be able help me and direct me in the right direction. I've set the passenger_max_pool_size to 30 but passenger never spawns more than 6 instances. I'm loading a webpage that uses ajax to load 30 sub pages from the server but because passenger only spawns 6 instances they are queued. What makes me confused is that Waiting on global queue is 0 but I can see in my browser that everything gets queued. When the first 6 ajax requests are done the next 6 starts loading. • Are there any libraries for parsing "number expressions" like 1,2-9,33- in Java

  Hi, I don't think it is hard, just tedious to write: Some small free (as in beer) library where I can put in a String like 1,2-9,33- and it can tell me whether a given number matches that expression. Just like most programs have in their print range dialogs. Special functions for matching odd or even numbers only, or matching every number that is 2 mod 5 (or something like that) would be nice, but not needed. The only operation I have to perform on this list is whether the range contains a given (nonnegative) integer value; more operations like max/min value (if they exist) or an iterator would be nice, of course. What would be needed that it does not occupy lots of RAM if anyone enters 1-10000000 but the only number I will ever query is 12345 :-) (To implement it, I would parse a list into several (min/max/value/mod) pairs, like 1,10,0,1 for 1-10 or 11,33,1,2 for 1-33odd, or 12,62,2,10 for 12-62/10 (i. e. 12, 22, 32, ..., 62) and then check each number for all the intervals. Open intervals by using Integer.MaxValue etc. If there are no libs, any ideas to do it better/more efficient?)

  I want to write an XPath that can return some link elements on an HTML DOM. The syntax is wrong, but here is the gist of what I want: //web:link[@text='Login' THEN_TRY @href='login.php' THEN_TRY @index=0] THEN_TRY is a made-up operator, because I can't find what operator(s) to use. If many links exist on the page for the given set of [attribute=name] pairs, the link which matches the most left-most attribute(s) should be returned instead of any others. For example, consider a case where the above example XPath finds 3 links that match any of the given attributes: link A: text='Sign In', href='Login.php', index=0 link B: text='Login', href='Signin.php', index=15 link C: text='Login', href='Login.php', index=22 Link C ranks as the best match because it matches the First and Second attributes. Link B ranks second because it only matches the First attribute. Link A ranks last because it does not match the First attribute; it only matches the Second and Third attributes. • Ajax: strange behaviour while checking a textfield

  I have a registration form with checking the available name for username field through ajax. Inputing a username into username field and pushing the "Check!" button, the script sends value to php script. Then php script replaces the username field with the username field + style like this: <input type="text" name="login" value="'.$_GET["user"].'" style="width:205; height:22; border-width:1; border-color:red; border-style:solid; background-color:rgb(255,232,230);"> So when replacing the username field in the form with its equivalent from php script and then submitting a form, it is then get to script on the page that checks whether the username field is empty or not. And it returns an error that it is empty, though after checking through ajax the username field it has value. I don't understand why it gets to empty field checking script, having the same field name and having value?

• PHP script stops running arbitrarily with no errors.

  I was working on a fairly long script that seemed to stop running after about 20 minutes. After days of trying to figure out why, I decided to make a very simple script to see how long it would run without any complex code to confuse me. I found that the same thing was happening with this simple infinite loop. At some point between 15 and 25 minutes of running, it simply stopped. There is no error output at all. The bottom of the browser simply says "Done" and nothing else is processed. I've been over every single possible thing I could think of... set_time_limit, session.gc_maxlifetime in the php.ini as well as memory_limit and max_execution_time. The point that the script is stopped is never consistent. Sometimes it will stop at 15 minutes, sometimes 22 minutes, sometimes 17... But it's always long enough to be a PITA to test. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. It is hosted on a 1and1 server. I contacted them and they couldn't help me... but I have a feeling they just didn't know enough.

• Good way to identify similar images?

  I've developed a simple and fast algorithm in PHP to compare images for similarity. Its fast (~40 per second for 800x600 images) to hash and a unoptimised search algorithm can go through 3,000 images in 22 mins comparing each one against the others (3/sec). The basic overview is you get a image, rescale it to 8x8 and then convert those pixels for HSV. The Hue, Saturation and Value are then truncated to 4 bits and it becomes one big hex string. Comparing images basically walks along two strings, and then adds the differences it finds. If the total number is below 64 then its the same image. Different images are usually around 600 - 800. Below 20 and extremely similar. Are there any improvements upon this model I can use? I havent looked at how relevant the different components (hue, saturation and value) are to the comparison. Hue is probably quite important but the others? To speed up searches I could probably split the 4 bits from each part in half, and put the most significant bits first so if they fail the check then the lsb doesnt need to be checked at all. I dont know a efficient way to store bits like that yet still allow them to be searched and compared easily. I've been using a dataset of 3,000 photos (mostly unique) and there havent been any false positives. Its completely immune to resizes and fairly resistant to brightness and contrast changes.

• Java Play Mustache NPE Error

  We are getting a mustache play error in production (amazon linux EC2 AMI) but not in development (MACs) and we have tried upgrading the jvm, using the jdk instead, and changing from a tomcat deploy model to match our development environments as much as possible but nothing is working. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. • How do I deliver mail for wildcard addresses to a particular user/alias/program?

  I need to configure sendmail so that mail delivered for wildcard addresses is accepted for delivery and then delivered to a user, alias, or directly to a script. I can rewrite the envelope/headers any number of ways, but I don't know how to accept the wildcard address when it's provided in RCPT TO: Everything I've tried so far winds up with a 550 user unknown error. So here's a specific example: I want to be able to handle any address that consists of a series of digits followed by a dot followed by a word, then pipe that to a script. If the headers get rewritten, that's OK, but I need the envelope to contain the actual Delivered-To address.   I have some performance-heavy code that performs bit manipulations. It can be reduced to the following well-defined problem: Given a 13-bit bitmap, construct a 26-bit bitmap that contains the original bits spaced at even positions. To illustrate: 0000000000000000000abcdefghijklm (input, 32 bits) 0000000a0b0c0d0e0f0g0h0i0j0k0l0m (output, 32 bits) I currently have it implemented in the following way in C: if (input & (1 << 12)) output |= 1 << 24; if (input & (1 << 11)) output |= 1 << 22; if (input & (1 << 10)) output |= 1 << 20; ... My compiler (MS Visual Studio) turned this into the following: test eax,1000h jne 0064F5EC or edx,1000000h ... (repeated 13 times with minor differences in constants) I wonder whether i can make it any faster. I would like to have my code written in C, but switching to assembly language is possible. Can i use some MMX/SSE instructions to process all bits at once? Maybe i can use multiplication? (multiply by 0x11111111 or some other magical constant) Would it be better to use condition-set instruction (SETcc) instead of conditional-jump instruction? If yes, how can i make the compiler produce such code for me? Any other idea how to make it faster?   Currently I'm getting a list of HeaderColumns from the following XML snippet: <HeaderColumns> <column performanceId="12" text="Over last month %" /> <column performanceId="13" text="Over last 3 months %" /> <column performanceId="16" text="1 Year %" /> <column performanceId="18" text="3 Years % p.a." /> <column performanceId="20" text="5 Years % p.a." /> <column performanceId="22" text="10 Years % p.a." /> </HeaderColumns> from which I create an object as follows: (admitedly similar to an earlier question!) var performancePanels = new { Panels = (from panel in doc.Elements("PerformancePanel") select new { HeaderColumns = (from column in panel.Elements("HeaderColumns").Elements("column") select new { PerformanceId = (int)column.Attribute("performanceId"), Text = (string)column.Attribute("text") }).ToList(), }).ToList() }; I'd like if HeaderColumns was a Dictionary() so later I extract the values from the anonymous object like follows: Dictionary<int, string> myHeaders = new Dictionary<int, string>(); foreach (var column in performancePanels.Panels[0].HeaderColumns) { myHeaders.Add(column.PerformanceId, column.Text); } I thought I could achieve this with the Linq to XML with something similar to this HeaderColumns = (from column in panel.Elements("HeaderColumns").Elements("column") select new Dictionary<int, string>() { (int)column.Attribute("performanceId"), (string)column.Attribute("text") }).ToDictionary<int,string>(), but this doesn't work because ToDictionary() needs a Func parameter and I don't know what that is / how to implement it, and the code's probably wrong anyway! Could somebody please suggest how I can achieve the result I need? Thanks.

• Within an aray of objects can one create a new instance of an object at an index?

  Here's the sample code: class TestAO { int[] x; public TestAO () { this.x = new int[5] ; for (int i = 0; i<x.length; i++) x[i] = i; } public static void main (String[]arg) { TestAO a = new TestAO (); System.out.println (a) ; TestAO c = new TestAO () ; c.x[3] = 35 ; TestAO[] Z = new TestAO[3] ; Z[0] = a ; Z[1] = (TestAO b = new TestAO()) ; Z[2] = c ; } } When i try to compile this i get an error message at the line Z[1] which reads as follows: TestAO.java:22: ')' expected Z[1] = (TestAO b = new TestAO()) ; ^ What i'm trying to do here is create an instance of the object TestAO that i want to be in that index within the assignment of the value at that index instead of creating the instance of the object outside of the array like i did with a. Is this legal and i'm just making some syntax error that i can't see (thus causing the error message) or can what i'm trying to do just not be done?

• Doctrine - get the offset of an object in a collection (implementing an infinite scroll)

  I am using Doctrine and trying to implement an infinite scroll on a collection of notes displayed on the user's browser. The application is very dynamic, therefore when the user submits a new note, the note is added to the top of the collection straightaway, besides being sent (and stored) to the server. Which is why I can't use a traditional pagination method, where you just send the page number to the server and the server will figure out the offset and the number of results from that. To give you an example of what I mean, imagine there are 20 notes displayed, then the user adds 2 more notes, therefore there are 22 notes displayed. If I simply requests "page 2", the first 2 items of that page will be the last two items of the page currently displayed to the user. Which is why I am after a more sophisticated method, which is the one I am about to explain. Please consider the following code, which is part of the server code serving an AJAX request for more notes: // $lastNoteDisplayedId is coming from the AJAX request $lastNoteDisplayed = $repository->findBy($lastNoteDisplayedId); $allNotes = $repository->findBy($filter, array('createdAt' => 'desc')); $offset = getLastNoteDisplayedOffset($allNotes, $lastNoteDisplayedId); // retrieve the page to send back so that it can be appended to the listing $notesPerPage = 30 $notes = $repository->findBy( array(), array('createdAt' => 'desc'), $notesPerPage, $offset ); $response = json_encode($notes); return $response; Basically I would need to write the method getLastNoteDisplayedOffset, that given the whole set of notes and one particoular note, it can give me its offset, so that I can use it for the pagination of the previous Doctrine statement. I know probably a possible implementation would be: getLastNoteDisplayedOffset($allNotes, $lastNoteDisplayedId) { $i = 0; foreach ($allNotes as $note) { if ($note->getId() === $lastNoteDisplayedId->getId()) { break; } $i++; } return $i; } I would prefer not to loop through all notes because performance is an important factor. I was wondering if Doctrine has got a method itself or if you can suggest a different approach.

• iOS Simulator is black on app execution

Right now whenever I try to run my code on the emulator (I do not have an actual device atm) it comes up with a black screen. Code can be found here. • parsing the output of the 'w' command?

  I'm writing a program which requires knowledge of the current load on the system, and the activity of any users (it's a load balancer). This is a university assignment, and I am required to use the w command. I'm having a hard time parsing this command because it is very verbose. Any suggestions on what I can do would be appreciated. This is a small part of the program, and I am free to use whatever method i like. The most condensed version of w which still has the information I require is `w -u -s -f' which produces this: 10:13:43 up 9:57, 2 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 USER TTY IDLE WHAT fsm tty7 22:44m x-session-manager fsm pts/0 0.00s w -u -s -f So out of that, I am interested in the first number after load average and the smallest idle time (so i will need to parse them all). My background process will call w, so the fact that w is the lowest idle time will not matter (all i will see is the tty time). Do you have any ideas? Thanks (I am allowed to use alternative unix commands, like grep, if that helps).
