Silverlight app doesn't access web over WCF in IIS

Hi, My application SilverLight which is hosted in my local host, doesn't access my web app and its database over WCF. I don't know why !!. I've looked over 100 sites and blogs which they have scribed how to configure WCF in IIS, but I can't fix my problem. Note : I debugged it with fiddler in my localhost, everything just worked fine, I saw all my site transaction, except a button which is responsible to access Data over WCF, fiddler didn't log that. WebClient security error when accessing the world of warcraft armoury

Hello World, I am trying to piece together a solution to a problem. Basically I am using Silverlight 4 with C# 4.0 to access the world of warcraft armoury. If anyone has done this - please oh please provide the working .net 4.0 code. But i don't think I am getting this far. The armoury has a cross domain policy file on it - this may be the cause of the error (not sure! I have uploaded to a production server I am testing it locally using IIS website I am going insane! Websites have made the suggestion that this problem can be overcome by creating a WebProxy - but I haven't the first clue how to do this. It would be great if someone could take on this challenge and show us all that it is possible. I'd prefer a non-proxy solution first, then try a proxy. How to get Firefox to not continue to show "Transferring data from..." in browser status bar after a

The following silverlight demo loads and displays a text file from a server. However, in Firefox (but not Explorer or Chrome) after you click the button and the text displays, the status bar continues to show "Transferring data from test.development..." which erroneously gives the user the belief that something is still loading. I've noticed that if you click on another Firefox tab and then back on the original one, the message goes away, so it seems to be just a Firefox bug that doesn't clear the status bar automatically. Is there a way to clear the status bar automatically in Firefox? or a way to explicitly tell it that the async loading is finished so it can clear the status bar itself? Right-aligning button in a grid with possibly no content - stretch grid to always fill the page

Hello people, I am losing my patience with this. I am working on a Windows Phone 7 application and I can't figure out what layout manager to use to achieve the following: Basically, when I use a Grid as the layout root, I can't make the grid to stretch to the size of the phone application page. When the main content area is full, all is well and the button sits where I want it to sit. However, in case the page content is very short, the grid is only as wide as to accommodate its content and then the button (which I am desperate to keep near the right edge of the screen) moves away from the right edge. If I replace the grid and use a vertically oriented stack panel for the layout root, the button sits where I want it but then the content area is capable of growing beyond the bottom edge. So, when I place a listbox full of items into the main content area, it doesn't adjust its height to be completely in view, but the majority of items in that listbox are just rendered below the bottom edge of the display area. I have tried using a third-party DockPanel layout manager and then docked the button in it's top section and set the button's HorizontalAlignment="Right" but the result was the same as with the grid, it also shrinks in size when there isn't enough content in the content area (or when title is short). How do I do this then? ==EDIT== I tried WPCoder's XAML, only I replaced the dummy text box with what I would have in a real page (stackpanel) and placed a listbox into the ContentPanel grid. I noticed that what I had before and what WPCoder is suggesting is very similar. How do you make the scale animation begin at the middle of the object instead of the top left?

What I am trying to accomplish: 10 percent increase scale transformation of a rectangle via Silverlight storyboard animation. What I currently doing: While in Expression Blend 3, I created a rectangle, created a storyboard, and created the scale transformation. The preview looked correct because the increase in scale begins in the middle of the object. When I run the project the scale transformation begins at the top left. Is there some piece of code missing? How do I use Sketchflow sample data for a ListBoxItem Template at design time?

I am using Expression Blend 4 and Visual Studio 2010 to create a Sketchflow prototype. I have a Sample Data collection and a ListBox that is bound to it. This displays as I would expect both at design time and at run time. However, the ListBoxItem template it just complex enough that I wanted to pull it out into its own XAML file. Even though the items still render as expected in the main ListBox where the template is used, when I open the template itself, all of the databound controls are empty. If I add a DataContext to the template, I can see and work with the populated objects while in the template, but then that local DataContext overrides the DataContext set on the listbox. A bit of code will illustrate. Start by creating a Sketchflow project (I am using Silverlight, but it should work the same for WPF), then add a project data source called SampleDataSource. Add a collection called ListData, with a single String property called Title. Windows Phone 7 Connect to SharePoint via SOAP

I am making my second application for the Windows 7 Phone Series platform and I cannot seem to connect to a SharePoint server using https. 99% of the following is not my code. Prevent lazy loading in nHibernate

Hi, I'm storing some blobs in my database, so I have a Document table and a DocumentContent table. Document contains a filename, description etc and has a DocumentContent property. I have a Silverlight client, so I don't want to load up and send the DocumentContent to the client unless I explicity ask for it, but I'm having trouble doing this. I've read the blog post by Davy Brion. I have tried placing lazy=false in my config and removing the virtual access modifier but have had no luck with it as yet. Every time I do a Session.Get(id), the DocumentContent is retrieved via an outer join. I only want this property to be populated when I explicity join onto this table and ask for it. Any help is appreciated. Code & Slides – SDE – What’s new in Silverlight 4

Last Tuesday the Software Developers Network – SDN organized another SDE. I’ve had the opportunity to present a session about Silverlight 4. I talked about lots of new features in Silverlight 4 and Expression Blend 4, focused on the Out-Of-Browser features. The slides of my presentation can be downloaded here. In my presentation I demonstrated a couple of features from my new pet project “SilverAmp”. This project is based on the legendary WinAmp, but made entirely in Silverlight. I use it to try out many new Silverlight 4 features. It’s not finished yet, but useful already. It runs outside the browser with elevated trust. It reads your local MyMusic folder and uses the TagLib library to read the ID3 tags of the mp3s it finds. SilverAmp is using MEF for extensibility. It uses a custom Window Chrome, designed in Expression Design. And it shows a notification window when a new song starts to play. In the future it is going to get song information from Last.FM, will be able to show YouTube videos inside itself and it will tweet about what you are playing. The project will be fully documented to function as a reference implementation for the new Silverlight 4 features. Dispatcher Timer Problem

I am trying to make a game in silverlight that also has widgets in it. To do this I am using a dispatcher timer running a game loop that updates graphics etc. In this I have a variable that has to be accessed by both by the constantly running game loop and UI event code. At first look it seemed that the gameloop had its own local copy of currentUnit (the variable), despite the variable being declared globally. I am trying to update currentUnit with an event by the widget part of the app, but the timer's version of the variable is not being updated. What can I do get the currentUnit in the gameloop loop to be updated whenever I update currentUnit via a click event? MEF to the rescue in Task-it

One of the frameworks that I chose to leverage in the development of my Silverlight 4 Task-It application is MEF, the Managed Extensibility Framework. Actually, that decision came while I was at a Silverlight Deep Dive session on the Microsoft campus in Redmond, WA, and came at the recommendation of John Papa (Microsoft Silverlight Evangelist) and Glenn Block (the MEF Maniac). If you are not familiar with MEF, its primary function is to provide a framework for extensibility in Silverlight applications, however, what I found is that MEF's capabilities go beyond just this. As a matter of fact, Microsoft announced at MIX this week that its new Silverlight Analytics Framework would use MEF for composition. What I’m Reading – 2 – Microsoft Silverlight 4 Data and Services Cookbook

A while back I mentioned that I had a couple books on my desktop that I’ve been “shooting holes” in … in other words, reading pieces that are interesting at the time, or looking something up rather than starting at the front and heading for the back. The book I want to mention today is Microsoft Silverlight 4 Data and Services Cookbook : by Gill Cleeren and Kevin Dockx. As opposed to the authors of the last book I reviewed, I don’t personally know Gill or Kevin, but I’ve blogged a lot of their articles… both prolific and on-topic writers. The ‘recipe’ style of the book shouldn’t put you off. It’s more of the way the chapters are laid out than anything else and once you see one of them, you recognize the pattern. This is a great eBook to have around to open when you need to find something useful. As with the other PACKT book I talked about have the eBook because for technical material, at least lately, I’ve gravitated toward that. I can have it with me on a USB stick at work, or at home. Read the free chapter then check out their blogs. You may be surprised by some of the items you’ll find inside the covers. Connecting a DomainContext and loading data manually in Silverlight 4 RC application

I have multiple times in my silverlight 4 RC application dragged and dropped from my datasource window to my form and have returned information from the database. View bound to paged collection view not updating all of the time.

I new to silverlight and trying to make a business application using the mvvm pattern and ria services. I have a view model class that contains a PagedCollectoinView and it is set to the item source of a datagrid. When I update the PagedCollectionView the datagrid is only updated the first time then after that subsequent changes to the data to not reflect in the view until after another edit. Things seem to be delayed one edit. Below is a summarized example of my xaml and code behind. Microsoft, jQuery, and Templating

About two months ago, John Resig and I met at Café Algiers in Harvard square to discuss how Microsoft can contribute to the jQuery project. Today, Scott Guthrie announced in his second-day MIX keynote that Microsoft is throwing its weight behind jQuery and making it the primary way to develop client-side Ajax applications using Microsoft technologies. What does this announcement mean? It means that Microsoft is shifting its resources to invest in jQuery. Developers on the ASP.NET team are now working full-time to contribute features to the core jQuery library. Furthermore, we are working with other teams at Microsoft to ensure that our technologies work great with jQuery. We are contributing to the open-source jQuery project in the exact same way that any other company or individual from the community can contribute to jQuery. We are writing proposals, submitting the proposals to the jQuery forums, and revising the proposals in response to community feedback. The jQuery team can decide to reject or accept any feature that we propose. Any feature that Microsoft contributes to jQuery will be platform neutral. In other words, Microsoft contributions will benefit PHP and RAILS developers just as much as they benefit ASP.NET developers. Microsoft contributions to jQuery will improve the web for everyone. How do I use the Microsoft IIS Diagnostics Toolkit to troubleshoot my problems?

I have downloaded the [IIS Diagnostics Toolkit (x86)][1] [1]: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=9bfa49bc-376b-4a54-95aa-73c9156706e7&displaylang=en and I was wondering how to use it. I'm not a system admin just a developer trying to work my way around a strange problem. I have an iis server running php(not my choice) and every once in a while the application will not allow anyone to log in and then a little while later it just starts working again. I look in the event viewer and don't see anything and the iis logs are no help either. I read somewhere about someone using the the toolkit to diagnose there problem. I just need a little guidance on how to use this tool. Thanks.

Should I use Google Web Toolkit for my new webapp?

I would like to create a database backed interactive AJAX webapp which has a custom (specific kind of events, editing) calendaring system. This would involve quite a lot of JavaScript and AJAX, and I thought about Google Web Toolkit for the interface and Ruby on Rails for server side. Is Google Web Toolkit reliable and good? What hidden risks might be if I choose Google Web Toolkit? Can one easily combine it with Ruby on Rails on server side? Or should I try to use directly a JavaScript library like jQuery? I have no experience in web development except some HTML, but I am an experienced programmer (c++, java, c#), and I would like to use only free tools for this project.

Mono/C#: A good GUI toolkit ? looks good on KDE?

Hi there, i am trying to get into developing for linux and i am a .net developer so i decided to give Mono a try. THe problem is that i am having problems trying to find a good gui toolkit. I have chosen KDE over GNOME because its a little bit more pleasing on the eye. I have looked here http://www.mono-project.com/Gui_Toolkits I get the sense GTK# is a good toolkit but its for GNOME. I know you can still run GNOME apps on KDE - but do they look nice ? probably not?? I would really appreciated any feedbakc from anyone who is doing the same or has done the same. I don't want to end up choosing the wrong toolkit and then have to change half way trhough. Also i was hoping to do all my development on my Windows PC and then just pass it to linux when i am ready... I presume this is possible? Thanks in advance

Turns out that this is a rather fundamental problem and my assumption that Windows Phone 7 is Silverlight 3 + Some other stuff is wrong. This page describes the differences between Mobile Silverlight and Silverlight 3. Of particular interest is this: The System.Reflection.Emit namespace is not supported in Silverlight for Windows Phone. This is precisely why Unity is crashing on the phone, DynamicMethodConstructorStrategy class uses System.Reflection.Emit quite extensively... So the question is, what alternative to Unity is there for Windows Phone 7?
