• Displaying data from linked tables in netbeans JTable

  I have been writing in java for a few months now and have just started using netbeans. I have spent all day today trying to work out how to connect to an SQL database and display data from 2 tables (ie display the data from from a select statement with an inner join) in a JTable. I have tried using JPQL with the following statment SELECT j, cust.name FROM Job j JOIN j.jobnumber cust where the job table has a field called customer that references id in the customer table. • PDFBox Pagebreak strange Nullpointer exception

  I currently try printing out text on multiple pages. For this, I count the number of rows and when they reach a fixed amount a method called pagebreakis executed. • Why is Apache + Rails is spitting out two status headers for code 500?

  I have a rails app that is working fine except for one thing. When I request something that doesn't exist (i.e. /not_a_controller_or_file.txt) and rails throws a "No Route matches..." exception, the response is this (blank line intentional): HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Thu, 02 Oct 2008 10:28:02 GMT Content-Type: text/html Content-Length: 122 Vary: Accept-Encoding Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Status: 500 Internal Server Error Content-Type: text/html <html><body><h1>500 Internal Server Error</h1></body></html> I have the ExceptionLogger plugin in /vendor, though that doesn't seem to be the problem. I haven't added any error handling beyond the custom 500.html in public (though the response doesn't contain that HTML) and I have no idea where this bit of html is coming from. So Something, somewhere is adding that HTTP/1.1 200 status code too early, or the Status: 500 too late. I suspect it's Apache because I get the appropriate HTTP/1.1 500 header (at the top) when I use Webrick. My production stack is as follows: Apache 2 Mongrel (5 instances) RubyOnRails 2.1.1 (happens in both 1.2 and 2.1.1) I forgot to mention, the error is caused by a "no route matches..." exception

• Best way to run multiple queries per second on database, performance wise?

  I am currently using Java to insert and update data multiple times per second. Never having used databases with Java, I am not sure what is required, and how to get the best performance. I currently have a method for each type of query I need to do (for example, update a row in a database). I also have a method to create the database connection. • IDENTITY_INSERT ON inside of cursor does not allow inserted id

  I am trying to set some id's for a bunch of rows in a database where the id column is an identity. I've created a cursor to loop through the rows and update the ids with incrementing negative numbers (-1,-2,-3 etc). When I updated just one row turning on the IDENTITY_INSERT it worked fine but as soon as I try and use it in a cursor, it throws the following error. Msg 8102, Level 16, State 1, Line 22 Cannot update identity column 'myRowID'. • Pass the return type as a parameter in java?

  I have some files that contain logs of objects. Each file can store objects of a different type, but a single file is homogeneous -- it only stores objects of a single type. I would like to write a method that returns an array of these objects, and have the array be of a specified type (the type of objects in a file is known and can be passed as a parameter). • VB - Any way to put 'Resources' items in a Resources subfolder?

  I have a VB.NET 2010 project that contains a lot of resources (which I added via My Project -- Resources). And they work just fine. But what I would like to do (if possible) is organize them by putting them in various subfolders. For example... in the Solution Explorer, I right-click on the 'Resources' folder and choose 'Add new folder' (which adds a subfolder inside the Resources folder). But when I try to drag one of the Resources items into the subfolder, it doesn't work (it throws an error message stating "Resource could not be loaded because the file to which it is linked could not be found"). So... I was wondering if there is any workaround for this? Since I have so many resources in this project, it would really be helpful if I could have about a dozen subfolders INSIDE the Resources folder, and then put my resources items inside those subfolders. FYI... this is strictly for my own organizational needs while coding the project, so I could care less how the resources items and folders are arranged at compile time. Thanks!

  I'm trying to pass a form field of type "file" to a CFFUNCTION. The argument type is "any". Here is the syntax I am trying to use (pseudocode): <cfloop from="1" to="5" index="i"> <cfset fieldname = "attachment" & i /> <cfinvoke component="myComponent" method="attachFile"> <cfinvokeargument name="attachment" value="#FORM[fieldname]#" /> </cfinvoke> </cfloop> The loop is being done because there are five form fields named "attachment1", "attachment2", et al. This throws an exception in the function: coldfusion.tagext.io.FileTag$FormFileNotFoundException: The form field C:\ColdFusion8\...\neotmp25080.tmp did not contain a file. However, this syntax DOES work: <cfloop from="1" to="5" index="i"> <cfinvoke component="myComponent" method="attachFile"> <cfinvokeargument name="attachment" value="FORM.attachment#i#" /> </cfinvoke> </cfloop> I don't like writing code like that in the second example. It just seems like bad practice to me. So, can anyone tell me how to use structure syntax to properly pass a file type form field to a CFFUNCTION??

• Why is no encoding set in reponse by tomcat? How can I deal with it?

  I had recently a problem with encoding of websites generated by servlet, that occured if the servlets were deployed under tomcat, but not under jetty. I did a little bit of research about it and simplified the problem to the following servlet: public class TestServlet extends HttpServlet implements Servlet { @Override public void service(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException { response.setContentType("text/plain"); Writer output = response.getWriter(); output.write("öäüÖÄÜß"); output.flush(); output.close(); } } If I deploy this under Jetty and direct the browser to it, it returns the expected result. The data is returned as ISO-8859-1 and if I take a look into the headers, then Jetty returns: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 The browser detects the encoding from this header. If I deploy the same servlet in a tomcat, the browser shows up strange characters. But Tomcat also returns the data as ISO-8859-1, the difference is, that no header tells about it. So the browser has to guess the encoding, and that goes wrong. My question is, is that behaviour of tomcat correct or a bug? And if it is correct, how can I avoid this problem? Sure, I can always add response.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8"); to the servlet, but that means I set a fixed encoding, that the browser might or might not understand. The problem is more relevant, if no browser but another service accesses the servlet. So how I should deal with the problem in the most flexible way?

  I'm trying to implement some logic when I create main(father) thread witch executes several other threads. Then it waits for some condition which child threads creates. After condition is meet the father executes some more child threads. The problem that when I use wait/notify I have java.lang.IllegalMonitorStateException exception. • Remove in between folder structure from the url in a php website

  I have a php website having following folder structure (basic structure). project_name app controller model view css js img index.php So when I view index.php in WAMP the url is http://localhost/project_name/ But when I go inside the site (eg. login.php which resides under view folder) url is like this. http://localhost/project_name/app/view/login.php I found that using .htaccess we can change the urls. So I tried this (in .htaccess). RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / Redirect 301 /project_name/app/view/login.php /project_name/login.php RewriteRule ^/project_name/login.php$ /project_name/app/view/login.php [L] Now url is http://localhost/project_name/login.php It is correct. But it seems php does not use the original link to grab the file (ie. from /project_name/app/view/login.php) but from here /project_name/login.php So it throws 404 error. What should I change? Please help me, i am just trying to hide /app/view/ part from the url so that user won't see my folder structure. I have read about various ways of doing that for about 9hrs today but still couldn't get anything working correctly. Hope my question is clear enough. Any help is greatly appreciated!

• Access to and availability of private member functions in C++

  I am wandering the desert of my brain. In my header file, I have declared 'string LookUpOutcome(int key);' in the private section of the class. I have tried all sorts of variations. I tried to use 'this' for a little while, and it gave me 'Can only use this in non-static member function.' Sadly, I haven't declared anything static and these are all, putatively, member functions. I tried it [on TakeAnAction and LookUp] when I got the error, but I got something like, 'Can't access MyPrivateMap from LookUp'. MyPrivateMap could be made public and I could refer to it directly, I guess, but my sensibility says that is not the right way to go about this [that means that namespace scoped helper functions are out, I think]. I also guess I could just inline the lookup and subsequent other stuff, but my line-o-meter goes on tilt. I'm trying desperately not to kludge it.

• How do you get the solution directory in C# (VS 2008) in code?

  Hi, Got an annoying problem here. I've got an NHibernate/Forms application I'm working through SVN. I made some of my own controls, but when I drag and drop those (or view some form editors where I have already dragged and dropped) onto some of my other controls, Visual studio decides it needs to execute some of the code I wrote, including the part that looks for hibernate.cfg.xml. I have no idea why this is, but (sometimes!) when it executes the code during my form load or drag and drop it switches the current directory to C:\program files\vs 9.0\common7\ide, and then nhibernate throws an exception that it can't find hibernate.cfg.xml, because I'm searching for that in a relative path. Now, I don't want to hard code the location of hibernate.cfg.xml, or just copy hibernate.cfg.xml to the ide directory (which will work). I want a solution that gets the solutions directory while the current directory is common7\ide. Something that will let someone view my forms in the designer on a fresh checkout to an arbitrary directory on an arbitrary machine. And no, I'm not about to load the controls in code. I have so many controls within controls that it is a nightmare to line everything up without it. I tried a pre build event that made a file that has the solution directory in it, but of course how can I find that from common7\ide? All the projects files need to be in the solution directory because of svn. Thanks for your help guys, I've already spent a few hours fiddling with this in vain.

  I have these base interfaces and providers in one assembly (Assembly1): public interface IEntity { } public interface IDao { } public interface IReadDao<T> : IDao where T : IEntity { IEnumerable<T> GetAll(); } public class NHibernate<T> : IReadDao<T> where T : IEntity { public IEnumerable<T> GetAll() { return new List<T>(); } } And I have this implementation inside another assembly (Assembly2): public class Product : IEntity { public string Code { get; set; } } public interface IProductDao : IReadDao<Product> { IEnumerable<Product> GetByCode(string code); } public class ProductDao : NHibernate<Product>, IProductDao { public IEnumerable<Product> GetByCode(string code) { return new List<Product>(); } } I want to be able to get IRead<Product> and IProductDao from the container. I am using this registration: container.Register( AllTypes.FromAssemblyNamed("Assembly2") .BasedOn(typeof(IReadDao<>)).WithService.FromInterface(), AllTypes.FromAssemblyNamed("Assembly1") .BasedOn(typeof(IReadDao<>)).WithService.Base()); The IReadDao<Product> works great. The container gives me ProductDao. But if I try to get IProductDao, the container throws ComponentNotFoundException. How can I correctly configure the registration?

• Cannot understand the behaviour of dotnet compiler while instantiating a class thru interface(C#)

  I have a class that impelemnts an interface. The interface is public interface IRiskFactory { void StartService(); void StopService(); } The class that implements the interface is public class RiskFactoryService : IRiskFactory { } Now I have a console application and one window service. From the console application if I write the following code static void Main(string[] args) { IRiskFactory objIRiskFactory = new RiskFactoryService(); objIRiskFactory.StartService(); Console.ReadLine(); objIRiskFactory.StopService(); } It is working fine. However, when I mwrite the same piece of code in Window service public partial class RiskFactoryService : ServiceBase { IRiskFactory objIRiskFactory = null; public RiskFactoryService() { InitializeComponent(); objIRiskFactory = new RiskFactoryService(); <- ERROR } /// <summary> /// Starts the service /// </summary> /// <param name="args"></param> protected override void OnStart(string[] args) { objIRiskFactory.StartService(); } /// <summary> /// Stops the service /// </summary> protected override void OnStop() { objIRiskFactory.StopService(); } } It throws error: Cannot implicitly convert type 'RiskFactoryService' to 'IRiskFactory'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) When I type casted to the interface type, it started working objIRiskFactory = (IRiskFactory)new RiskFactoryService(); My question is why so? • Create table class as a singleton

  I got a class that I use as a table. This class got an array of 16 row classes. These row classes all have 6 double variables. The values of these rows are set once and never change. Would it be a good practice to make this table a singleton? The advantage is that it cost less memory, but the table will be called from multiple threads so I have to synchronize my code which way cause a bit slower application. However lookups in this table are probably a very small portion of the total code that is executed. EDIT: This is my code, are there better ways to do this or is this a good practice? • Java Socket - how to catch Exception of BufferedReader.readline()

  I have a Thread (let's say T1) which reads data from socket: public void run() { while (running) { try { BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader( new InputStreamReader(socket.getInputStream()) ); String input = reader.readLine(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } Another Thread (lets say T2) try to finish the program in one of its method. Therefore T2 does the following: T1.running = false; socket.close(); Here is this scenario for which i couldn't find a solution: T1 is active and waiting for some input to read i.e. blocking. context switching T2 is active and sets running to false, closes the socket context switching because T1 was blocking and T2 closed the socket, T1 throws an Exception. What i want is to catch this SocketException. i can't put a try/catch(SocketException) in T1.run(). So how can i catch it in T1's running-method? If it's not possible to catch it in T1's running, then how can i catch it elsewhere? PS: "Another question about the Thread Debugging" Normally when i debug the code step by step, i lose the 'active running line' on a context switch. Let's say i'm in line 20 of T1, context switch happens, let's assume the program continues from the 30.line of T2, but the debugger does not go/show to the 30.line of T2, instead the 'active running line' vanishes. So i lose the control over the code. I use Eclipse for Java and Visual Studio for C#. So what is the best way to track the code while debugging on a context switch ?

• BitmapFactory.decodeFile out of memory with images 2400x2400

  I need to send an image from a file to a server. The server request the image in a resolution of 2400x2400. What I'm trying to do is: 1) Get a Bitmap using BitmapFactory.decodeFile using the correct inSampleSize. 2) Compress the image in JPEG with a quality of 40% 3) Encode the image in base64 4) Sent to the server I cannot achieve the first step, it throws an out of memory exception. I'm sure the inSampleSize is correct but I suppose even with inSampleSize the Bitmap is huge (around 30 MB in DDMS). Any ideas how can do it? Can I do these steps without created a bitmap object? I mean doing it on filesystem instead of RAM memory. • Add a smaller subView with new origin

  I can't get my head around this - I know it must be simple.. I'm starting to feel pretty stupid. I have two viewControllers. MainViewController.h/m and LevelsViewController.h/m I want to add a subView from the LevelsViewController class and a view that is built in IB called levelsView. I am calling this from the MainViewController.m file. The levelsView is only 200x200 pixels and I want to offset it from the frame origin of the superView by x=140 pixels and y=50 pixels. I have this working - the view displays, but I can't figure out how to offset it. It only shows up at the 0,0 superView frame origin. (The superView shows below it, which is what I want). Here is the code I call in the method in the MainViewController.m that displays the levelsView.(I have commented out some of the things I have tried - but throws this error: error: request for member 'frame' in 'myLevelsView', which is of non-class type 'LevelsViewController*' ) - (void) displayLevelsPage { if (self.theLevelsView == nil) // Does not yet exist - therefore create { LevelsViewController * myLevelsView = [[LevelsViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"levelsView" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; NSLog(@"NEW theLevelsView instance created!"); CGRect frame2 = CGRectMake(140, 50, 200, 200); //myLevelsView.frame = frame2; self.theLevelsView = myLevelsView; [myLevelsView release]; } [self.view addSubview: theLevelsView.view]; NSLog(@"Levels View has been activated"); } Any insight would be appreciated.
