How do I stop panning on a monitor that supports a specific resolution?

Hi all, I've been battling this for a few days now. Any and all help is appreciated. I have a planar monitor with a native res of 1280x1024. At one point, I had used PowerStrip to override "something" and set the res to 1600x1200, and it worked great. I then installed new intel graphics drivers for my 86895g (or w/e model) video card, which screwed up whatever settings I had. If I set it to 1600x1200 this time, it would set the res correctly, but give me a 1280x1024 viewport and the screen would pan when the mouse got to the edges of the screen. Absolutely not useful. Ok, so I was limited to 1280x1024 now. W/e. Now...enter new video card with two video ports. I have two monitors now and the latest nVidia drivers. I decide to try to get dual 1600x1200 going...ended up screwing the original monitor up so much now that it's at 1280x1024, with a 1024x768 viewport and panning! Absolutely not usable now. So what I need, and I can't seem to find on any forums, is help doing one or more of the following: Clearing out all monitor/edid info out of the windows registry without corrupting the registry. Actually correctly override the EDID values and get my sweet res back. Some other way of getting back to at least dual 1280x1024 with NO panning. Note: My device manager shows 4 monitors for some reason. My registry shows entries for all sorts of monitors that have been hooked up to the machine over the years. It's making it difficult to debug. Experience with PowerStrip would be helpful. I've been mucking with Phoenix EDID designer and MonInfo as well, but I'm stumbling around in the dark with these. Linksys EA3500 : use WAN port as WAN + LAN possible?

I'm waiting for deliver of a Linksys EA3500 router. I was wondering if it was possible to get the WAN port act as normal WAN port (Internet IP) + LAN switch ? My problem is that my Internet box is in a room with NAS and PC, and the router will be in another room with TV, PS3 and PC. The Internet box have a 4 port Gigabit switch so one cable will plug from there to the router's WAN in the other room. The router will get the Internet IP from the Internet box, but will it be possible to have private network through this link too ? I could have a first network between the Internet box and the router, and another network form router and devices but that will do double NAT for nothing... Thanks for reading me and your help !

Host Primary Domain from a subfolder

I am having a problem making a sub directory act as the public_html for my main domain, and getting a solution that works with that domains sub directories too. My hosting allows me to host multiple sites, which are all working great. I have set up a subfolder under my ~/public_html/ directory called /domains/, where I create a folder for each separate website. e.g. public_html domains websiteone websitetwo websitethree ... This keeps my sites nice and tidy. The only issue was getting my "main domain" to fit into this system. It seems my main domain, is somehow tied to my account (or to Apache, or something), so I can't change the "document root" of this domain. I can define the document roots for any other domains ("Addon Domains") that I add in cPanel no problem. But the main domain is different. I was told to edit the .htaccess file, to redirect the main domain to a subdirectory. This seemed to work great, and my site works fine on it's home/index page. The problem I'm having is that if I try to navigate my browser to say the images folder (just for example) of my main site, like this: www.yourmaindomain.com/images/ then it seems to ignore the redirect and shows the entire server directory in the url, like this: www.yourmaindomain.com/domains/yourmaindomain/images/ It still actually shows the correct "Index of /images" page, and show the list of all my images. How to debug silent hang on shutdown of Solaris 10?

We're experiencing a mysterious hang on shutdown of a newly-imaged Oracle/Sun Solaris 10 SPARC box. It is repeatable (in the same spot ... from what we can tell). We let it try to work itself out multiple times for 5-10 minutes and it never progressed. I've never seen this happen before. The last thing displayed on the console is that syslogd was sent signal 15. Prior to us disabling snmpdx on the box, the last thing on the console was that snmpdx was sent signal 15 (after syslogd was sent signal 15). While very rare to find, in Solaris days past, I'd have a better idea from experience where the problem might be, and could then narrow things down further with silly (but effective) debugging echo statments in /etc/*.d scripts. With SMF in the picture, I'm not really quite sure where to start. We forced a crash dump via sync at the {ok} prompt for later analysis, and then let the box come up because it's a production server and our scheduled outage window was closing. /var/adm/messages shows nothing of use. Watch Flash video but block out part of it

I'm learning a foreign language. There are several online sites that have Flash video in the language I'm learning (e.g., Hulu), which is great. Unfortunately, they have English subtitles, which is (depending on who you ask) somewhere between "annoying" and "actively harmful to my learning". When I'm watching them in a window, I can just move them near the bottom of the screen, or put another window over them. That's awkward, but it kind of works. But I'd like to watch them full-screen, on my TV set. Full-screen Flash doesn't let me put any window on top of it. Is there a way to watch an online Flash video but block out part of it? I'll probably be using my Mac for this, but maybe Linux -- solutions for either one welcome.

Only half of RAM is recognized by BIOS

I got a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 mainboard. Some time ago I noticed that Windows only showed 2GB instead of 4GB. I don't know exactly what caused it anyway. I tried putting in each of the 4 x 1GB RAM modules one by one, and tried every slot one by one, until every stick and slot worked. However, then I tried adding one more at a time, and it kept showing 1GB, until I put in all 4, where it only showed 2 GB instead of 4 (in BIOS and windows 7 64bit). I tried replacing the BIOS battery since I've read that low battery could cause it. It didn't help though. I also bought 4GB new RAM (yes, it's supported, I checked it), and it's still the same, it only shows 2GB (or 3GB, when I put in 4 of the new and 2 of the old). I also did the latest BIOS update, and used default BIOS settings, but nothing of that helped. When my PC boots it shows "RAM modules used 2 and 3", when 4 sticks are in - or "0 and 1", when only 2 are in.

How to configure 1080p HDTV as a monitor

I've read several posts that almost answer my question, but not quite. I have a Samsung LN32C530 1080p HDTV I'd like to use as a monitor. I was reasonably successful getting the prior 720p model to work ok using SwitchResX, but I think I just got lucky with the parameters (1360x768@60Hz). I tried the expected (1920x1080@60Hz) values and "nearby" ones, with no luck. Older 720p params actually work, but I get the same small real estate as the older model TV. Trying values near 1080p always displays an image that doesn't match the screen size and is very jagged which makes me think interpolation is making things worse. Also, SwitchResX has a bunch of parameters other than H x W ("porch" etc), and I don't know how they all work together. Any help?

Copying Metadata Between Files in iTunes

A while back, I converted some AVI files to .m4v files that would be playable on my iPhone. When I play these files on my PC using iTunes the quality is terrible because the resolution is so low. My solution is to convert the AVI's using Handbrake using the "Universal" preset; it works like a charm and I can now watch them both on my PC and iPhone. The Problem I want to import the newly converted files into my iTunes library and be able to copy the metadata (show, season (these are TV episodes) Description, etc) without having to manually copy and paste values from one file to another. Is it possible to just say "copy this file's metadata to this file"?

Boot sequence unlike reboot

When I turn on the computer it acts very differently than when I reboot it. [WinXP Pro, Intel Core2 6600, 2.4GHZ, 2GB RAM, NVIDA GeForce] Boot: Monitor must be plugged into the motherboard or no image. Screen resolution 800x600. Changes to the resolution cause only the top half of the screen to be usable, and are lost when I shut down the computer. Desktop icons arranged in neat rows on left of desktop. Nothing of note in system tray In Device Manger - Display adapter: Intel(R) Q965/Q963 Express Chipset Family In Device Manger - Monitors, two monitors are listed Hibernate and standby work. Reboot: Monitor must be plugged into the graphics card or no image. Screen resolution - 1280x1024 Desktop icons arranged in the cute circle that I put them in. NVIDIA icon shows in system tray. In Device Manger - Display adapter: NVIDA GeForce 6200LE In Device Manger - Monitors, one monitor is listed Hibernate and standby do not work. When awakened after a hibernation it says: The system could not be restarted from its previous location because the restoration image is corrupt. Delete restoration data & proceed to system boot? Double reboot (inconsistent): Monitor must be plugged into the graphics card. Screen resolution - 1024x768 Odd icon shows in system tray whose tooltip says "Intel Graphics" For a while my morning ritual was to boot, wait, reboot using (alt+ctrl+del - ctrl+u - R), wait. Keeping the monitor plugged into the graphics card. But aside for the inefficiency of this method, I sometimes want to standby and can't. On the other hand, the computer is unusable when set to 800x600. Please help, anyone?

Forward mDns from one subnet to another?

Is there an ipfw rule that can easily forward mDns packets from one subnet to another? I have a Snow Leopard Server machine serving as the gateway between the two subnets and would like for machines in each subnet to see the services available in the other subnet. The gateway machine is already confirmed as configured correctly such that packets route correctly between the two subnets (ping works, traceroute shows the subnet hop, etc). My problem in designing a ipfw rule is that I don't know how to instruct that I would like multicast packets addressed to 224.0.0.251:5353 on en0 to be addressed to the same ip/port but on fw0 (the other interface). I attempted a rule such as fwd 192.168.10.1 log udp from 192.168.1.0/24 to 224.0.0.251 recv en1 to force the packet to hop over to the other interface (from en1 to fw0), but no dice. The ipfw log shows that the rule is being triggered by packets, but tcpdump isn't showing any packets on the other interface. Also, the only other firewall rules in place are the divert port 8668 and rule #65535 "allow any to any". Any suggestions? Thanks.

How to convert dvr-ms file in Ubuntu to DVD?

I have a .dvr-ms file of a recorded TV show from my Vista Media Center. I would like to burn this to a DVD that can play on any standalone DVD player. My main PC that I want to use to convert it to a DVD format is running Ubuntu 10.04. I am able to play the file in Ubuntu using VLC (which surprised me) so I'm assuming I have what I need to decode it. I guess my questions are: What format do I need to convert this file to so that I could burn it to a playable DVD? I started to go through VLC's conversion process and chose I think H264 and AAC or something, and it gave a message about not having an AAC encoder. I'll look into that some more tonight, but is that something I could then burn to a DVD? Thanks for any help!

White Screen, No Errors.

So.. Interesting problem for you guys, As I'm completely lost as to what to do, or where to take the next step. Server & Application Environment. CentOS release 5.3 (Final) Apache 2.2.3-22 EnableSendfile off EnableMMAP off ErrorLog logs/error_log LogLevel debug PHP-5.2.6-2 error_reporting = E_ALL display_errors = on log_errors = on max_execution_time=300 max_input_time=60 memory_limit=512mb Kohana 2.3 PHP Environment. HAProxy 1.3.15.6-2 MemCacheD 1.2.6-1 Our application is split between 3 web servers, mounting a NFS Storage server, and sticky load balancing between the 3 web servers. The application seemingly runs great, but every so often, instead of loading, the application just shows a pure white page. Not a 404 Error, or a 500 Server Error, a clean white page. And it returns instantly, so its not a execution time error. Nothing in the Error log, or Server-Error Log, Proxy log shows standard proxied connection, Just the standard 200-Status in Access log, with 256 bytes transferred. To me, this leads to tell me that the application itself is having a problem. A rare, unexplainable, seemingly random, problem that causes what we've now called the "White Screen of Death." Our developers all say that since there is nothing going to our error logs, that it must be a server problem. But I say the same thing, There's nothing going to ANY of our logs (relevent to this anyway), and we're not having httpd children crash from what i can tell. Any ideas on how i can increase my logs, or somehow prove that its not a bug in PHP, Apache, CentOS, ect? Or if it is somehow a bug, identify it?

One quarter of screen corrupted on MacBook Pro

I have a problem with my MacBook Pro's screen - here's a video: http://yfrog.com/4wm63z For those who prefer words, if you divide the screen vertically into 4 columns, the second column is corrupted (flickering, and discoloured, usually with yellow). I took it to an Apple store and they said it could be the screen or the logic board, neither of which will be cheap to replace. However, occasionally this problem will completely go away. So before I part with my cash, or decide to turn this into an overpriced media center for my TV... could the problem be a loose cable, or something else cheaper to fix?

Which is the best procedure and digital format to resurrect my old VHS library i a way I can see It on my LCD TV? I have a not so big collection 100 VHS I have plenty of storage I have a network media tank (A110 popcorn Hour but I can also purchase a new media center if needed) I have an old working VCR (but again I can pick a specific one new if you think It's better to save quality) The VHS cassette collection seems to have retained a good quality over the years. How do I get 480i resolution for an external monitor in Windows 7?

I'm trying to get a laptop video signal to my really old television, so that I can play movies on it. But the TV won't accept the video signal. I found the manual online, and apparently the output has to be 480i. But I don't know how to do that -- Windows 7 will only let me set the resolution down to 800x600. Even if I get it down to 640x480- is that 480i or 480p? How do I tell the difference? How do I switch between them? How do I get the resolution down so low in the first place?

NTLM, Kerberos and F5 switch issues

I'm supporting an IIS based application that is scaled out into web and application servers. Both web and applications run behind IIS. The application is NTLM capable when IIS is configured to authenticate via Kerberos. It's been working so far without a glitch. Now, I'm trying to bring in 2 F5 switches, 1 in front of the web and another in front of the application servers. 2 F5 instances (say ips 185 & 186) are sitting on a LINUX host. F5 to F5 looks for a NAT IP (say ips 194, 195 and 196). Created a DNS entry for all IPs including NAT and ran a SETSPN command to register the IIS service account to be trusted at HTTP, HOST and domain level. With the Web F5 turned on and with eachweb server connecting to a cardinal app server, when the user connects to the Web F5 domain name, trust works and user authenticates without a problem. However, when app load balancer is turned on and web servers are pointed to the new F5 app domain name, user gets 401. IIS log shows no authenticated username and shows a 401 status. Wireshark does show negotiate ticket header passed into the system. Any ideas or suggestions are much appreciated. Please advice.

Exchange 2003 ActiveSync problem with certificate

We're having problems getting iPhones to sync properly with SBS 2003 Exchange. When you add a new Exchange ActiveSync account on an iPhone and enter all the pertinent information, it shows a "Verifying Exchange account info" message for a minute or so, then says everything's verified and asks what you want to sync, Mail, Contacts, Calendars... so it looks like it's working. However, when you go to the Mail app and select the Exchange email account, it just shows an "Inbox" folder with nothing in it. When you try refreshing, it attempts for a second, then says "Last Updated" with a timestamp, as if it worked, but there's no mail and no error message/feedback at all. I think I've narrowed it down to some sort of certificate issue, but I'm having trouble finding out where to go from here... I ran MS's Exchange connectivity testing tool with these results: Our cert was purchased from Network Solutions, and I'd already added it to the IIS Default Website for OWA purposes. But this report makes it look like the cert is somehow problematic. I don't know what to do now... Here's a shot of the cert details, just in case:

Wake up and record in Windows Media Center on a Mac Mini

I'm currently considering buying a Mac Mini to use as a media center. I plan to install Windows 7 (or 8) on it, using Boot Camp. Will it be able to go into standby or hibernate (S3, S4?) and wake up to record TV scheduled in Windows Media Center? I haven't been able to find concrete information on supported standby types when running Windows under boot camp, and if Windows will even be able to wake when a recording should start. I just want to be clear on any limitations in this area before I buy anything.

Plug and Go NAS Storage

My wife and I are separating. One of the things we need to extricate is the media we have accumulated over the years. So I am looking for a NAS solution that is a) relatively low-cost, b) reliable and c) easy for a non-geek to use (I don't want to be tech support). All it needs to do is hold our iTunes library, photos, course work and maybe some movies and TV shows that I currently have. She will be connecting via her Netbook. I have seen this thread but the reviews on Amazon aren't particularly favourable. Due to the need for simplicity, WHS and FreeNAS are none-starters. I need redundancy as if a single drive system was to die then she would lose her course work and photos. Is the ReadyNAS the only real solution out there?

iPhone always assigned wrong ip

for some reason most of the time my iPhone connects to the home network the ip address seems wrongly assigned as it 'loses connection' even even with strong reception. If I change the ip address to a static from 168.2.10 to 168.2.15 works fine until it appears to renew back to the prior. I am using a power-plug extender from the modem to router. Then have a laptop Printer playstation tv and another iPhone that always connect fine. The modem also has a crappy wireless which I haven't connected any devices to. I'm sure the forum will have a simple answer!

External SATA drive does not work without the optional USB cable *also* connected

I have Vantec NST-260SU external eSATA/USB drive enclosure (which came with an optional separate power supply) connected to a relatively new Windows 7 computer. The drive should work as a SATA drive with either the separate power supply or using a USB cable solely for power. I would prefer to use the external power supply because I have used all my rear USB ports. Now, if I connect both the eSATA and USB cable, then: The drive shows in the BIOS list of AHCI drives (and not in the list of attached USB devices). Everything I can see about it in Computer Management seems to show it as a SATA driver (for example, it shows as "Location 0 (Channel 5, Target 0, Lun 0)" like my other SATA drives (and not "on USB Mass Storage Device" like my USB flash-drives). It seems very fast, very much faster than my USB flash drives. However, if I disconnect the USB cable and attach the power adapter instead, the drive does not show in the BIOS list and cannot be seen by Windows. The power LED on the enclosure is lit, and the drive enclosure becomes warm after running for a bit, so I am sure it is receiving power. Does anyone know if this device requires both the USB and eSATA cable, and if so, why? Or is there possibly something I need to do to reset the enclosure to not need the USB - the install instructions are pretty clear that you must connect the SATA cable before connecting the USB cable in order for the drive to function as SATA, which I am sure I did. PS: I have reviewed the small manual which came with it, which has not been of help.

How the computer could be used by two users at the same time

Running windows 7 64, Is there any application that allows me to connect an additional keeyboard and mice and monitor, so that this can be used by other user at the samee time while I use the main computer, There is an application called cpnmouse but it doesnt work on win7, betwin crashes before win7 start up, teamplayer is too expensive Has anyone figured out this functionality maybe with virtual machinees or something, i've tried team player in a virtual machine but it crashes I have 3 monitors one of theem is a Tv, i would like that my girlfried uses it as a terminal without me loosing the focus cause she uses the mice There is a linux software called userful, but it's linux and doesnt work for me, and windows multipoint server needs a clean installation and also that's not a valid choice
