    Hi Guys, I am wondering how I can map my development website - hosted via 127.0.0.1:81 - to an external IP address so it can be accessed from outside my PC ? I have a static IP address - [example] 11.111.111.11 - and want to be able to show the website to clients via allowing them to view the site ? Would anyone be able to explain this for Win7 ?

Sometimes I can get sound from the device but it is a sheet of white noise and tinkering makes it go away again I don't know if that is a separate problem or if it is linked to not being able to see the analogue input/outputs in the sound preferences. Any help would be greatly appreciated As for the white noise I have installed the Envy24 control panel and spend lots of time playing with the settings but when I can get the white noise I can never get it to an quality where I can actually hear what is being played. The internal speaker plays audio fine and plugging in a NI Audio 4DJ via usb also plays sound, although with some static but I believe that is due to an underpowered usb2 pci expansion card not being able to get enough electricity to the device. Alternatively I have seen other people with problems with this device so it may be a bug in the driver but that is another matter. I would like to get the M-Audio card working so I can begin to enjoy my music once again. As a note, I do not currently have any audio equipment capable of sending or receiving audio via the digital inputs and output so I can not check if they are working. The sound preferences show a wide range of digital in and out options with various surround sound options but no analogue ins and outs.

  • Is a dedicated server similar in setup to a VPS?

    I was thinking about getting a dedicated server (I may need the extra power that a VPS can't provide) from The Planet but I don't know to much about how you would operate one. I have experience in setting up multiple VPS's on Linode and Slicehost, I just select my OS in their CP and connect via SSH in putty and do my thing. Is it the same with dedicated servers (just chose you OS from the CP and connect via SSH and put on whatever crap you want)?

  • Strange permission errors with Windows Server 2008

    I just don't know a better way to describe my issue that is driving me nuts. I am trying to establish a test domain with virtual machines on a box that has Win7 with VMwware workstation installed. The purpouse with this domain will be so that we can try and test different situations before they go into the production network. I build a VM with WinSrv2008R2 and I am using that VM as a template to make other servers for the domain by making clones of it. Now I raise a DC with one clone and a member server with another clone - I add the server to the domain. I am following a standard procedure as always (it is not my first domain). Then I make an admin account and I am adding the admin to be a member of the Domain and Enterprise Admins group. That admin is admin with full priviledges on the DC.. no problem there. But on the other server has ... somewhat half the privileges and I cant log in via RDP. I tryed with another account. Same issues. For example (with half the privileges): I can't open the Even Viewer if I go via Start - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer. But I can open the Even Viewer via the server manager. You can notice this on the image below. I mean WTF??? I am going crazy, I haven't experienced anything similar in my three years of expertise. I already lost 3 days troubleshooting this. Could this be related with the cloning? Perhaps if I make fresh installs of WinSrv2008 there won't be any problems? I've had raised test domains as VMs on other occasions before, and there weren't any problems then. This is VMware Workstation 8. I've made clones before, on Workstation 7 it didn't had any problems.   • Why is tortoise-git changing my file permissions?

    I switch between using tortoise git and cmd line git on cygwin very frequently, and lately I've noticed that when I git status via cygwin and no changes are found, then I go to use tortoise git, and right click on a repo then use the "Git Commit - ..." menu item, I get a list of files that have supposedly changed, but of course when review the diff there are no changes to the file contents, it's actually the file permissions which appear to be changed, which git via cygwin does not recognize. So what is wrong with my tortoise git setup?

  • Accessing local resources over wifi with a BES-connected Blackberry

    I'm trying to get to a local web site on my LAN at 192.168.1.10 with my Blackberry, but I'm getting a message saying the server did not respond. I know that some, if not all, internet traffic on a BES-connected blackberry goes through the BES. This is clear because I can access internal resources on my employers network via the mobile network. Is there any way for me to specify that the device should attempt to route directly over wifi before it tries to connect via the BES server at work?

  • Why might one host be unable to access the Internet, when it can ping the router and when all other hosts can?

    I have a Draytek Vigor 2830n. It's kicking out a 192.168.3.0 LAN. It performs load-balancing across dual-WAN ports, although I've turned off the second WAN to simplify testing. There are many hosts on the LAN. All IPs are allocated through DHCP, most freely allocated from the pool, but one or two are bound to NIC MAC addresses. All hosts can access the Internet, save one. That host (192.168.3.100 or 'dot100' for short) gets allocated an IP address (and the right gateway address, DNS server addresses, subnet etc.) dot100 can ping itself. It can ping the gateway, and access the latter's web interface via port 80. It's responsive and loss-free (sustained ping over a couple of minutes reports no data loss). Yet, for some reason that evades me, dot100 can't ping an external IP address or domain name. I suspect it's never been able to, because it was getting some Internet access from a second adaptor (different subnet), but that's now been turned off, which exposed the problem. In dot100, I've tried: two operating systems (Windows 8 and Knoppix), to rule out anti-virus programs etc. two physical adaptors two cables, on each adaptor two IPs (e.g. .100 and .103 assigned by Mac and .26 from the pool) both dynamic and assigned (MAC-bound) DHCP-allocated IPs but none of this experiments yielded any variation in the result. dot100 is a crucial host. It's a file server for the network, so I need it to be reliably allocated a consistent IP. Can anyone offer a potential solution or a way forward with the analysis please? My guess My analysis so far leads me to believe it's a router issue. I've checked the web interface very carefully. There are no filters setup in Firewall - General Setup or Filter Setup.   • Re. copying movie from USB card reader back to my camera

    At work and home, I use Server 2003 with Windows Shares. We also have a couple of Netgear ReadyNAS appliances at work, managed via the web interface. Is there a built-in Web Interface for managing Shares, or a free one available - for use in Server 2003 (or 2008)? The reason I ask is that it would be good to manage the Shares via the Web, rather then RDP onto the Server each time - and would allow other users to treat it as a NAS.

I've installed proftpd, opened up port 21 and made sure it was up and running. Everything seems good, but when I try to connect via FTP from my personal computer to the server it times out each time.
