• Modify python USB device driver to only use vendor_id and product_id, excluding BCD

  I'm trying to modify the Android device driver for calibre (an e-book management program) so that it identifies devices by only vendor id and product id, and excludes BCD. The driver is a fairly simply python plugin, and is currently set up to use all three numbers, but apparently, when Android devices use custom Android builds (ie CyanogenMod for the Nexus One), it changes the BCD so calibre stops recognizing it. The current code looks like this, with a simple list of vendor id's, that then have allowed product id's and BCD's with them: VENDOR_ID = { 0x0bb4 : { 0x0c02 : [0x100], 0x0c01 : [0x100]}, 0x22b8 : { 0x41d9 : [0x216]}, 0x18d1 : { 0x4e11 : [0x0100], 0x4e12: [0x0100]}, 0x04e8 : { 0x681d : [0x0222]}, } The line I'm specifically trying to change is: 0x18d1 : { 0x4e11 : [0x0100], 0x4e12: [0x0100]}, Which is, the line for identifying a Nexus One. My N1, running CyanogenMod 5.0.5, has the BCD 0x0226, and rather than just adding it to the list, I'd prefer to eliminate the BCD from the recognition process, so that any device with vendor id 0x18d1 and product id 0x4e11 or 0x4e12 would be recognized. The custom Android rom doesn't change enough for the specifics to matter. The syntax seems to require the BCD in brackets. How can I edit this so that it matches anything in that field?

• How to get decent MySQL driver perfomance in Ruby

  I notice that I am getting very poor performance for either or both inserts and queries. The queries themselves are basic and can execute with no delay directly from mysql. The ruby script that I wrote is only 1 thread, so only 1 connection is being used, and never closed unless the script is terminated. Pretty basic, I am just trying to insert a lot of rows. There is a look-up or two to get a surrogate key, or to check for duplicates, but the complexity is just O(n). Also, it isn't like there are millions of records, so again the queries themselves take no time to run. I am using: Ruby 1.9.1 Gem/driver:ruby-mysql 2.9.2 MySQL 5.1.37-1ubuntu5.1 ^ all 32 bit versions on a 32bit ubuntu distro I am getting about 1-2 inserts per second, pretty slow. I know a lot of people will suggest to change drivers, but that means I have some refactoring and resting to do. So I would really appreciate any help, but please if you do recomend that at least say why you do (eg: if you have used ruby-mysql x.x.x before and found another mysql driver to be better).ruby-mysql 2.9.2 What I would like to know: How can I improve performance with ruby-mysql 2.9.2 If and only if I cannot do this with ruby-mysql 2.9.2, what should I do?

• Android USB driver for Xperia X10a

  I've been trying for a couple hours now, and have hit all of the sites Google found, but i cannot get the Android USB driver on my XP box to talk to my new Xperia X10a. I found the lines that some kind soul posted, and has been syndicated repeated, but they don't work for me. The idea is to add them to the Google.NTx86 and Google.NTamd64 sections of the android_winusb.inf file: ;Xperia X10 %SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0FCE&PID_E12E %CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0FCE&PID_E12E&MI_01 I tried a number of variations of the first line, including "Sony Ericsson X10a", which is what XP shows me in both the "found new hardware" wizard and the device manager, but no luck. The result is always the same. Here are my steps: Plug in the phone via USB "found new hardware wizard" appears Choose "No, not this time" and "next" Choose "Install from a list or specific location..." and "next" Choose "Search for best driver...", check "Include this location...", and browse for the "usb_driver" folder in the Android SDK installation. Click "next" It does a quick search and then says "Cannot install this hardware", "... because the wizard cannot find the necessary software". I've tried more things that i can recall now, including deleting registry entries, but it just won't work. Any help would be appreciated at this point. Regards, m@

  hi all, I have installed VS2008 and am able to run the demo codes "camshiftdemo and lkdemo " which comes in the opencv library. With this done, now I am trying to run some simple codes from the internet to get acquainted with the OpenCV. I am just trying to display video from webcam and I am getting the following error.. • MongoDB complex MapReduce of video logs

  I have a dataset from video streaming logs. Each video is identified by a FileGUID. The log entries record the FileGUID, the fragment of the video watched and the bandwidth it was watched at. I would like to create a mapreduce outputting, for each video, a count for fragments both total and for each bandwidth. Ideally it would look like; {"FileGUID":"50acb3a5796634df0e073285", { "1":{"total":76, "0832":34, "1028":42}, "2":{"total":42, "0832":28, "1028":14}, ... } } Is this possible with one mapreduce or is it a multi-step process, or should I use a different method? • Play Video From Raw Folder

  Evening, I've just started programming with android and made a few programs and everything so I'm still kind of a novice but im trying to understand it all. So here's my problem, I'm trying to play a video, the thing is, I got it working when I Stream it from an URL with VideoView over the internet or when i place in on my sdcard. What I want to do now is play a video I've got in my res/raw folder, but it only plays audio and I don't understand why, it doesn't give any error in my logcat as far as I can see, also couldn't really find a solution with google since most of the answers are about VideoView and just put the video on your SDCard. Now someone told me I had to use setDisplay (SurfaceHolder) and I've also tried that but I still only get the audio. I hope somebody can help me to find a solution to this problem. • WDK build-process hooks: need incremental build with auto-versioning

  I've previously gotten incremental builds with auto-versioning working in a team build setting for user-mode code, but now I'm dealing with the builds of WDK device drivers. It's a whole new ball-game. I need to know what extension point, or hook, is available in the WDK build that occurs after the driver has been selected to be incrementally built, but before it actually starts building the object files. More specifically, I have a .rc file that contains the version of the device driver. I need to update the version in that file ONLY IF the driver is going to be built anyway. If I bump the value in the .rc file prematurely, it will cause the incremental build to kick-off (that is bad). If I wait too long, then the incremental build won't see that I've changed the .rc file. Either way, I do need the WDK to realize that the new version I've placed into the .rc file needs to be built into a new .res file and linked. How do I do this? What suggested extension points should I play with? Is there a link-tutorial on the WDK build process that is particularly revealing regarding this topic?

  I am using Dell Studio 1558 laptop. Originally it was having windows 7 64 bit Home edition but than i upgraded my system to Windows 7 32 bit Professinal edition. The problem i am facing due to this is that my system is not detecting bluetooth adapter. When i install 64 bit(windows 7)/32(windows vista) bit drivers for Bluetooth it detects the Adapter but only sometimes and much of the times it doesnt. I am not able to find drivers for Windows 7 32bit professional edition and thus not able to detect bluetooth adapter.

  Is there any free (as in beer, and if it's possible as in bird) tool to convert a dvd in the format DVC-PRO HD 1080 to a normal/standard dvd format so that I can play it on a normal DVD player? EDIT: I changed the wording a bit. We've a video in DVC-PRO HD 1080 but as far as I know it is a proprietary format. We'd like to create a standard dvd out of it. I'm not really in video encoding and dvd conversion. I thought I need to be more precise. VLC currently doesn't support DVC-PRO HD 1080.

• Any screen capture software that captures webcam, microphone inputs too ?

  I am going to conduct a user study. Apart from capturing the screen while the user is interacting with the system, I also want to capture the video/audio of the user. Is there any software that in addition to capturing the screen also overlays it with the webcam/microphone inputs. The goal is to capture the complete experience of the user: key/mouse interactions with the system along with their facial/vocal responses. I know that I can maybe run a screen-capture software and also run a software for capturing webcam audio/video alongside and try to sync/overlay both these streams with timestamps. But I am going to be dealing with probably several hundred hours of data. So I am looking for a tool that can streamline the process for me amap and help me keep my sanity at end of the process. • HP Pavilion dv3 volume control display driver on Windows 7

  I've recently bought an HP Pavilion dv3-2150ep and I'm having a hard time getting the volume control display to work as expected. The control is a back-lit touch-sensitive bar above the keyboard. Now the buttons to turn the volume up and down actually do it, but the lightning is not changing at all. The mute button does change color when toggled. I'm not sure if I'm missing any drivers here (I've installed all of those on the HP support page that seem to have something to do with sound and/or display) or if I have to activate this somewhere. Any ideas?

  My satellite receiver can stream the mpeg-2 video/audio output through lan. Using mencoder, I'm trying to build a script to encode and save the stream in real time with my Core2Duo 1.8 Ghz. Right now, I'm using a single pass, it produces good quality for a video rate of 800Kb/s, but takes more then 95% of CPU power, thus making a lot of frameskips is the computer is used while encoding. mencoder -o -vf lavcdeint -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:q=2:aq=2 -ovc x264 -ffourcc avc1 -x264encopts crf=25:me=hex:subq=9:frameref=2:nocabac:threads=auto -mc 3 So, I'm considering using a 2-pass encoding to alleviate the processor and record 100% of the stream. But I have no idea how to start. For the info: Standard Stream: mpeg-2 720*576 25fps HD Stream: 1920*1080 50fps (this is not my goal to record it, but it will be super cool if I could)
