• Turn Off Google Chrome Annoying Link Hover

  I like Google Chrome a lot, but there are two problems I have with it. The Address Bar search history feature that I want to turn off, and the feature where I hover over a hyperlink and in the bottom lefthand corner it shows a light blue hover tooltip about where that link goes. I really don't care where a given link goes and wish I could turn that feature off, even if I have to install a Google Chrome Extension. So, for these two reasons, I will not install Google Chrome as my primary browser and will remain with Firefox. So, is there a fix to turn the annoying link hover tooltip feature off?

• How to create 1280x720 music video with static pic

  I wanna upload a song to youtube, and put a static 1280x720 pic as the video. I'd like the format to be one of the recommended ones. I tried Windows Movie Maker 2.6 but it only generated a 640x480 video. I also tried Windows Live Movie Maker but it put a big black margin around my pic (and unexplicably, produced a video with a slightly lower volume). Do you know any way to do what I need?

• How to troubleshoot a GPF?

  I get a GPF dialog box out of the blue fairly often (like about 2 hours after I turn on the computer). It basically says that svchost.exe had a failure... (see the corresponding Event Log entry below). Event Type: Error Event Source: Application Error Event Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Date: 5/18/2010 Time: 7:41:16 PM User: N/A Computer: DKHA-IPSA Description: Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.5512, faulting module ole32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x0004eaa9. Shortly after this error pops up, the computer pretty much grinds to a halt (e.g. some UI elements on the desktop simply do not respond). And I have to do a hard reboot. How do I troubleshoot this type of thing? P.S. The PC has all the latest patches and nothing is missing in the Device Manager.

• Unattended Windows XP Install Stops at Deleting Previous Installation

  I'm not sure if I'm just not asking Google properly or what, but I can't come up with a good answer to this problem. We have MDT 2010 setup and have a Task Sequence for refreshing Windows XP machines. It doesn't seem to happen all the time, but a lot of the time when we start a refresh it goes through the normal motions and when it gets into the first part of Windows XP setup (the blue screen) it stops, telling me a Windows installation already exists at that location and I can press L to continue, erasing everything and using that folder. I've poured over the unattend file and can't find an option that will just delete the old files and keep going, so I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

• Beep code for Dell Poweredge T105

  I can't start my Poweredge T-105 just after two years. It does not display any on monitor but blue lights on 3 & 4 of system case. And it repeatedly beeps. At first, it beeps 1-3-3 and then repeats 1-1-3-4. As far as I can search on the net, Dell's beep code is 3 digit. So do I have to consider the beep code for my error is 1-3-3? Unfortunately, my warranty expired last year so any hint will be appreciated.

  For botting purposes, I have to keep my Win Server 2012 R2 running without logging-off after I disconnect from Remote Session. • How do I get Windows 7 To Recognize a newly installed RAID 5 volume?

  I had a previously running Windows 7 (64 bit) system. I added 3 new 1TB Seagate drives that I set up as a RAID 5 volume. I have a Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 motherboard. I installed the drives, set up the BIOS and configured the three drives as a RAID volume through the RAID setup utility that was accessed via Ctrl-I while the system was booting. I rebooted the system and could see the drives during the boot sequence. However, when Windows 7 was starting I got an error (quick blue screen) and then Windows tried to repair itself with no success. Do I need to install RAID drivers in Windows? How do I do it if Windows won't boot? Thanks in advance.

  As I'm writing this our company website and the web-service we developed are down in the big GoDaddy outage resulting from an Anonymous attack (or so says Twitter). We used GoDaddy as our registrar and we use it for DNS for some domains. Tomorrow is a new day - what can we do to mitigate such outages? Simply moving to, say, Route 53 for DNS might not be enough. Is there any way to remove this single point of failure?

• Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 on netbook

  I tried to install CyberLink's PowerDVD 9 on a friend's netbook. The installation went OK (even though the install screen is too big to fit and you can't see the "Next " buttons etc.), but once installed, PowerDVD 9 refuses to launch. It claims it requires at least 1024x768 resolution - the Acer netbook has 1024x600 :-( Any way / hack / trick to get PowerDVD9 to work anyway?? Couldn't it scale down to e.g. 800x600?

• How can I setup a subnetwork using DDWRT and a 2Wire?

  Ok, I'm having a bit of trouble getting this setup. I'm not really sure what direction I need to be looking in. I am on ATT UVerse and I have to use their horrible 2Wire Modem/Router. But with this router, I have very limited control over my network and my wifi range is too small for my house. But, I have a hardwire ran to my TV which I have hooked into a switch and split the line to my PS3. The problem I'm having, is I don't know how to get the Buffalo DD-WRT setup as a subnetwork so that the PS3 can find my Media Server. Here is a diagram of what I'm trying to accomplish: Blue is ethernet.

• HP Color LaserJet 2605dn color alignment issue

  We have a HP Color LaserJet 2605dn at work that recently lost its mind. The red and blue colors are offset from where they should be and producing a rather trippy 3D look. I've performed a manual calibration through the menus and poked at just about everything I could find. These toner cartridges are not new (as you can see they're about 50% used) but only just recently started this problem. They were working great up until this error appeared. It happens on mac, pc, and via the printer menu printouts so I don't think it's a driver problem. The printer has been restarted and reset and is running the newest firmware. Anyone have any ideas? I can ask our admin to set up something in the admin area but I do not have access for myself. Microsoft Office is now unable to read any of there files. I suspect this is because of little endian vs. big endian. Is there any tool which can converted all theses files automatically, doing this by hand would take ages.

• Coloring The Z Shell[closed]

  Because I have to stare at my command prompt all the time on my computer, it should look at least half-decent, so I am trying to get it colored. The expected outcome is as seen on this site. I have the colors I want set in my .Xdefaults file, but they of course do not color my prompt. My .zshrc is Phil's Prompt. • Different color prompts for different machines when using terminal/ssh?

  I have 5 machines I constantly ssh into to do work. Its getting increasingly frustrating when I am issuing wrong commands on wrong boxes. Luckily I havent done anything bad yet. I wanted to know if there is any hack which I can hardcode which will display my prompt in different colors based on the machine I am ssh into? Such as blue for desktop1, purple for laptop, red for server etc? Is this possible? Currently I am using this command export PS1="\e[0;31m[\u@\h \W]\$ \e[m " taken from here http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/bash-shell-change-the-color-of-my-shell-prompt-under-linux-or-unix/ but it obviously doesnt work across ssh. Also, if you have any other cool bash tips for helping me ease my sight will be wonderful. However, I've got quite a few region 1 DVDs (on import, yeah?) that it won't play. I know I can switch my drive's region but this is limited to 5 times only. Is there a way I can make the drive permanently multi-region or lift this limit, the same way you can with most DVD players?

  I am trying to create a multiboot USB drive with grub4dos. I started with a working bootable WinPE-like USB drive, based on Windows 7. I modified the drive MBR with grubinst.exe (hd1), copied in its root grldr and the menu menu.lst file: color blue/green yellow/red white/magenta white/magenta timeout 30 default 0 title Win 7 test rootnoverify (hd0, 0) chainloader /bootmgr I get the error: Try (hd0, 0). This partition is ntfs but with unknown boot record Try (hd0, 1) ... ... Cannot find GRLDR. If I hit a key, anyway it boots Windows 7. I would like to drop to the GRUB command shell, but when I hit "c" Grub boots into Windows.

• light text editor for csv file? (on windows)

  could anybody suggest a light (small, fast) text editor that can handle columnar view of csv files? save quote character to all fields, even if not 'necessary' OpenOffice Calc is bit big for my old laptop. My favourite Notepad++ cannot do the columnar view. And it seems to me that Sharp Tools Spreadsheet cannot import csv file. GoogleDoc convert some date fields by default which I do not want and it is really not fast and easy way how to edit csv.

• Picasa "sync to web" folders losing sync when they are moved

  I've been using the Picasa "sync to web" feature but recently noticed that several folders, with a lot of synced photos and videos inside them, lost their synced status as soon as I moved them to another location on the disk (not through the Picasa "move folder" command). These folders now still appear with the green arrow indicating that their contents were uploaded, but they lost the blue sync icon they previously had (and are no longer syncing...). If I try to reactivate the "sync to web" option for these folders, Picasa starts re-uploading ALL of their contents. This is absurd.. and would take ages to complete. Is there any way I can somehow get Picasa to recognize these moved folders as the counterpart folder of an existing online folder for sync purposes?
