  • Can i enlarge os c drive of my windows 8? [migrated]

    Last year I got a new Western Digital WD Blue 500GB HDD to replace my old drive. The first thing I did was to install latest Windows 8. While installing Windows 8 I created 3 partitions, C drive for the OS and others for storage. The OS partition is 120GB (which at the time I thought would be plenty big) but I'm now realizing its too small! I wonder if it's possible to re-size HDD partition without reformatting and re-install my Windows 8. So that is my question, Can i enlarge os c drive of my windows 8 without having to re-format? I've used the Norton Partition Magic and Disk Management to make this happen but there doesn't seem to be any options to make it happen. Thanks for any help you guys can give regarding my question. I've worked hard to optimize my current install of Windows 8 and would hate to start all over again.

  • over Windows terminal change cursor width or color in Vim depending on mode

    I am using PuTTY to connect over SSH to an Ubuntu server from my Windows 7 workstation. Once connected I am using the Vim installation from the Ubuntu server to edit files. I want the cursor to change when I go into and out of insert mode. Part of my .vimrc file is like this but it is not changing the cursor: if &term =~ "xterm" echo "xTerm!!inate!" let &t_SI = "\<Esc>]12;purple\x7" let &t_EI = "\<Esc>]12;blue\x7" endif I know that the if statement is executing because of the echo. EDIT: Actually I would prefer to change the cursor to be a vertical line like you can in the PuTTY settings rather than change the color, or maybe even do both. But just changing the color would be a lot better than nothing. Also I am willing to change terminals if there is another Windows 7 Professionsal 64 bit compatible terminal that can do this (preferably something free). Maybe Poderosa can do this?

  • Random BSODs on Win7 boot. Can't find a valid reason.

    Hi, I bought and assembled a new pc: ASUS m4a785td-v EVO AMD x4 620 OCZ Black Edition 2x 2gb WD 500gb sata Win7 Ultimate 64bit fresh install BSOD on boot. Formatted, reinstalled, BSOD on install. Ran memtest - no errors. Ran Win7 install in safe mode. Installed, random BSOD on win7 startup, even in safe mode. Updated BIOS. Ran the win7 memtest (no error), booted after some tries and ran Prime95 blend test for 12 hours straight with no errors at all! When the pc has booted, win7 runs as smooth as possible, I've been playing STALKER for 4 hours straight with not a single hiccup. Using Blue Screen View I can see that every BSOD involves: ntoskrnl.exe Here are the dumps Any help would be greatly appreciated, this thing is driving me crazy.

  • Burn 24/96 flac files to play on standalone player

    I have vinyl record rip in 24/96 flac format. Each track is almost 200 MB big, so the album won't fit on CD. How to burn these files on a DVD to play with the same quality on standalone DVD player? My player supports SACD, DVD Audio and DVD video as well. My OS is Ubuntu Lucid (preferred), but I have also WinXp with Nero installed. BTW, is there any difference between DVD+ and DVD- for audio?

    Because I have to stare at my command prompt all the time on my computer, it should look at least half-decent, so I am trying to get it colored. The expected outcome is as seen on this site. I have the colors I want set in my .Xdefaults file, but they of course do not color my prompt. My .zshrc is Phil's Prompt.   • Dual Monitors for Windows 8

    I have one monitor and a projector connecting to my computer, while the screen keep flashing after every 10 seconds, it seems the resolution keeps changing. The project is the a dual display for the monitor. They displays the same content. My current resolution is 1024*768, while after 10 seconds around, the resolution goes to something big, then after a few seconds, it goes back to 1024*768. I wonder if this is a problem about the resolution, or it's about the compatible of screen display?

I would like to find something that will provide reliable wireless to areas of the building that aren't covered or get poor reception. I would also like a product that won't require big changes to my current wireless setup (multiple APs with a wireless controller are out). Latency and bandwidth aren't terribly important.   • Custom prompt doesn't work on Mac's terminal

    I like to use a custom prompt (current path in blue) on my unix machine: export PS1='\[\e[0;34m\]\w \$\[\e[m\] ' But when I try to use it on Mac's terminal it doesn't work: it fails to detect the end of the prompt and overwrites the prompt when I type commands. This also happens when I'm inputting a long command where it wraps over the same line instead of starting a new line. I don't understand why this is the case since I use bash on both machines. Any suggestions on how to remedy this?

    So, for the third time in about two weeks (maybe less), one of our customers has had their password compromised, and a spammer was sending mail with their account using our webmail. As a result, our outgoing mail server has been listed at Spamhaus, and a lot of our outgoing mail is being rejected. I can't think of any way to prevent this from happening (although now our webmail server is using Sendmail instead of SMTP, but that just limits the scope of the problem), yet the big ISPs never seem to have a problem like this.

That's great, but is it also possible to tell the prerequitiinstaller to download the files and keep them in its prerequisite directory?     I have HP laptop 6730S with two Operating systems : Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit Centos 6.4 64Bit The GRUB2 is not installed in MBR, use Windows' bootloader. After I choose Windows in the start, the blue-screen appears with unmountable_boot_volume problem so I tried some help from similar questions here ( use Command Prompt and enter the following command: chkdsk /R C: ). But the problem is, I can't get repair my computer it took so long and nothing happened after I waited more than 2H and when I put my Windows 7 DVD to boot it charge the files then same thing happened nothing show up so I couldn't use command prompt. But when I use Centos everything works just fine the D partition i can mounted normally but C partition it shows me error and tell me to go to windows and repair it with Chkdsk command and here is where I am stuck.

  • PCMCIA preventing laptop from booting up

    My friend has brought his dead laptop over. It is a Sony Vaio with Windows Vista. When booting up, it blue screens and reboots. I have tried to boot up with Knoppix and this will freeze when starting up PCMCIA. If I start Knoppix with knoppix nopcmcia it disables pcmcia and boots up fine. So I presume there is a problem with the PCMCIA controller on the laptop. My friend does not use any PCMCIA cards, so doesnt really need it. Is there anyway I can similarly disable PCMCIA so that Windows will boot up fine?

    I have a user request to be able to create a rule that would move an email in outlook 2003 that the user flagged for follow up to a specific folder. That seemed simple enough till he requested that depending on the flag color they were to be moved to a specific folder. Issue is that in outlook 2003 that's not an option when creating a rule. I know that this is very straight forward in outlook 2007 and 2010 and using the categories feature is very convenient as it displays as a list when you right click.... Though in 2003 categories are not so convenient. as an example the user will flag for follow up as so... Red Flag for sales Blue Flag for requests Green Flag for personal They want a rule that will move all items with a red flag to the sales folder, Green flag to the requests folder and so on....   • Cannot select fields with the mouse Windows 7

    Lately I cannot select a word (field) with the mouse. When I left click on a field drag the mouse to the end of the field then release the button, the selection (blue shading) disappears. Sometimes after several tries the shading stays and I can delete the field. Up to a week ago everything worked fine. Is this a bug, virus? I am using Windows 7 Also, in Live Mail after I finished reading an item in the Inbox, I click the X in the upper right corner to return to the rest of my mail, but instead it takes me back to the desktop and have to double click the Live Mail again to continue. Again this only happened recently. Things worked OK before and this does not happen regularly.

  • SQL Server iSCSI session issue with a NetApp SAN

    We had an issue early this morning when iSCSI issues broke connectivity with a few of our databases (resulting in a SQL Server Error 21). Attempts to DBCC CheckDB did not work, and the only solution was to restart the SQL Service. Is there a known reason why an iSCSI initiator session would reset itself out of the blue? Example below from the NetApp syslog. This set of errors was replicated 4 times (once for each SQL server in production). Only one SQL server was noticeably impacted, however.   • quicktime recording: only a region?

    The newest QT has a feature to record or capture the current screen. My iMac 27 is too big if I want to record the whole screen. Can I designate a region or an application window for recording? I could not find a way to do that. Not sure if I have to use alternative applications to do it.
