• Custom XAML property

  Hey all - I've seen a library that allows me to do this inside my XAML, which sets the visibility of the control based on whether or not the user is in a role: s:Authorization.RequiresRole="Admin" Using that library with my database requires a bunch of coding that I can't really do right now. Ultimately here's what I want to know... I have received the authenticated users role from my SPROC, and its currently stored in my App.xaml.cs as a property (not necessary for the final solution, just FYI for now). I want to create a property (dependency property? attached property?) that allows me to say something very similar to what the other library has: RequiresRole="Admin", which would collapse the visibility if the user is not in the Admin role. Can anyone point me in the right direction on this? Thanks, Scott

• Creating a "mountable" File System, where to start?

  A friend and I are thinking about creating a simple file system for learning purposes. We're going to write it in C/C++, and try to get it to a mountable state from within linux. We've both been coding or over 16 years (32 combined), so I suppose its just a matter of finding some documentation, and a ton of learning. My question is, where could I find out more information? (Documentation for creating a file system, requirements of mounting a file system in linux, etc) Where do we start? Edit: I should also mention, this would not be a boot-able file system, just a file system used for storage, though I am not too sure if that matters or not.

• New line or Carraige Return syntax problems

  Im pretty new to coding, heres my problem. Results->Text = "G55 > Y" + System::Convert::ToString(destY); "Results" is a System.Windows.Forms.Textbox "multiline btw", or so says VS. That line works fine, but i need a "new line or CR" at the end, so that i can repeat that line with different Literals and a different var in ToString. For days now ive tried different syntax's ive read about, and i cant get it to take any of them. Or even a complete different way to input text into Results-Text that would allow for tidy multiline use. Sidenote: since im using -Text and System::Convert::ToString in VC, would this code be considered just c++ or .net or CLI? to tighten my searches.

  Dont ask how this works but currently it does ("^\|(.?)\|*$")....kinda. This removes all extra pipes...part one....I have searched all over no anwser yet. I am using VB2011 beta...asp web form......vb coding though! I want to capture special character pipe (|) which is used to seperate words...i.e. car|truck|van|cycle problem is users lead with, trail with, use multiple, and use spaces before and after...i.e. |||car||truck | van || cycle. another example: george bush|micheal jordon|bill gates|steve jobs <-- this would be correct but when I do remove space it takes correct space out. so I want to get rid of whitespace leading, trailing, any space before | and space after | and only allow one pipe (|)....in between alphanumeric of course.

  Hi Step 1 I've two screens one is parent and the other one is child. On click of a button in the parent window the child popup will open. Step 2 On click of a button in child i'm displaying the html(viewsource) of parent window in a textbox(.net) and holding in a hidden variable hdnSource too. Step 3 I've 4 checkboxes in the child window. If the checkbox is not checked, then that part of html should be removed. eg: cbxPersonal, cbxProfessional if cbxProfessional is unchecked I should remove divProfessional from html which is in hdnSource and display in the textbox Can anyone help me to do the 3rd part of coding. Since the html is in the variable, I'm not able to find the div with document.getElementById

  Hi, I'm coding simple game which I plan to make multiplayer (over the network) as my university project. I'm considering two scenarios for client-server communication: The physics (they're trivial! I should call it "collision tests" in fact :) ) are processed on server machine only. Therefore the communication looks like Client1->Server: Pressed "UP" Server->Clients: here you go, Client1 position is now [X,Y] Client2->Server: Pressed "fire" Server->Clients: Client1 hit Client2, make Client2 disappear! server receives the event and broadcasts it to all the other clients. Client1->Server: Pressed "UP" Server->Clients: Client1 pressed "UP", recalculate his position!! [Client1 receives this one as well!] Which one is better? Or maybe none of them? :)

  I have two entities in core data (call them entityOne and entityTwo). I have a entityOne<---entityTwo relationship between them. I am now trying to code an NSPredicate to fetch entityTwo objects on the following basis: Fetch entityTwo objects that have a relationship with a specified entityOne object. Filter out those entityTwo objects which have no value for one of their attributes. I am best doing both of these in an NSPredicate or is there a better way?   I'm having trouble locating BlackBerry techical specifications and their website is a mess. They also don't have a number that I can use to easily contact them. This isn't exactly a coding question, but what does the BlackBerry audio API look like, and where can I get technical specifications on audio?   Hey there, Ok so this is what i've got. Button anandabutton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.anandaAddressButton); anandabutton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View view) { Intent myIntent = new Intent(view.getContext(),MapClass.class); startActivityForResult(myIntent,0); } }); This method opens up my MapClass class which at the moment I just have set to show the location of one place. But I have a load of buttons and rather than making a lot of different mapClass classes for each button, I am wondering can I just use the one class and depending on what button 'id' is pressed, it will check an 'if statement' and then put in the correct coordinates into the method to display the map. It would be a lot neater than coding up like 20-30 classes. I'm not sure if i've explained that right so if not let me know. Thanks for any help.

[Serializable] public class Collectable<T> : List<T>, IDisposable { public Collectable() { } public void Dispose() { } } And an Item that uses it is defined.. [Serializable] [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRoot("Titles")] public partial class Titles : Collectable<Title> { } The problem is when I call the method, it expects "Collectable" to be the XmlRoot, but the XmlRoot is "Titles" (all of object Title). I have several classes that are collected in .xml files like this, but it seems pointless to rewrite the basic methods for loading each up when the generic accessors do it - but how can I enforce the proper root name for each file without hard coding methods for each one? The [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRoot] seems to be ignored.

  i created in app purchases in my application.But still my test account doesn’t work fine. When i test my application using test account the sandbox environment asks me to buy the product and after buying it asks me to buy the product again straightaway. Is it some problem while using test accounts or is there a problem in my coding?? this is my first application and figuring out in app purchases for your application can be really hard at times. i have 4 products and this happens only with 1 or 2 products and rest work fine. So i am sure the in app purchases is fine but cant figure out what could be wrong??

• What is a good practice for handling SQL connections within a WCF call?

  Suppose I want to create a (stateless) WCF service with three methods exposed on an endpoint: performSqlOperationA(), performSqlOperationB(), and performSqlOperationC(). Each method inserts data into a SQL database. The way I've seen things done at my office, each method would begin with code to initialize a SqlConnection object. Each method would end with code to safely dispose it. What is a good practice for coding these WCF methods so that the SqlConnection object is initialized and disposed in each method without having to do these things in each method? I know that I can have the connection initialized in the constructor for the class for the WCF methods, but I don't know about disposing it... The calls cannot be wrapped in a using block. One solution I'm familiar with is PostSharp, which allows me to set an attribute which causes specific code to automatically run at the beginning and end of each method call, but it would be greatly preferable to do this with only the .net framework.

  Last time I coded a web application was almost 10 years ago. I used Java/JSP/HTML/CSS etc. I've been coding non-web applications only ever since. When I look at modern sites now (like this one), I realize how my web development skills are obsolete. Maybe the most obvious "feature" that I wouldn't know how to implement now is the update of elements on the page after user input without having to refresh the whole page (e.g. the voting/downvoting here updates the vote count without reloading the whole page).   In zend framework I register my namespace like this (in application.php): 'autoloaderNamespaces' => array( 'Cms_' ) And after this - I'd expect that Zend would always check that path in addition to Zend and ZendX paths if unknown class is called. But for some reason this doesn't work with for example view helpers. I still have to register a separate path for my view helpers even though view helper scripts are named according to Zend coding standards and are located in: Cms/View/Helper/ And this is how I register helper path in config file: view' => array( 'charset' => 'UTF-8', 'doctype' => 'XHTML1_TRANSITIONAL', 'helperPath' => array( 'Cms_View_Helper_' => 'Cms/View/Helper' ) ), So - I'm not sure why I have to register "Cms" namespace twice first through 'autoloaderNamespaces' and then through View "helperPath"? Shouldn't Cms namespace include Cms/View/Helper namespace? can someone plz clarify this:)

  This question is specifically about PHP, but I'm guessing it might be applicable to other languages as well. I've noticed that between PHP4 and PHP5, the designers of the language shifted away from using -1 as a return value to using constants or other forms of output. This makes sense, as -1 is not particularly evocative, and I'm guessing this practice led to confusion. That said, I am sometimes inclined to return -1 when I want to quickly add another return option to a function, and -1 often seems like a perfectly valid way to express the outcome I am coding for. So here are my questions: Is my observation generally correct, regarding the move away from -1 as a return value in PHP5 vs PHP4? What are the cons of returning -1, beyond for the reason I mentioned above, wherein the -1 return value doesn't contribute positively to code clarity?

• How to double the size of 8x8 Grid whilst keeping the relative position of certain tiles intact?

  Hi guys I have grid size of size 8x8 , total of 64 Tiles. i'm using this Grid to implement java search algorithms such as BFS and DFS. The Grid has given forbidden Tiles (meaning they can't be traversed or be neighbour of any other tile) and Goal and Start tile. for example Tile 19,20,21,22 and 35, 39 are forbidden and 14 an 43 are the Goal and start node when the program runs. My question is , How can i double the size of the grid, to 16x16 whilst keeping the Relative position of forbidden tiles as well as the Relative position of start and goal Tiles intact? On paper i know i can do this by adding 4 rows and columns to all size but in coding terms i don't know how to make it work? Can someone please give any sort of hints?

  I am designing a site where external links form various are being shown on my page. I am using $url=$_GET['url']; $website_data = file_get_contents($url); echo $website_data; so essentially a user would click on a hyperlink which is something like www.test.com/display_page.php?url=http://www.xyz.com/article/2.jpg My page, list_of_images.php, typically has a list of images with href for each image as above on the page and when any image is clicked it would go to display_page.php, which would show our banner on the top of this page, some text and then this image beneath that. This image could be from any website. I am currently sending the url directly and grabbing it using GET. I understand that users/hackers can actually do some coding and send commands for the url variable and could break the server or do something harmful and so i would like to avoid this method or sending the url directly in the header. what is the alternate approach for this problem?

  Hi, I'm using Python on Appengine and am looking up the geolocation of an IP address like this: import pygeoip gi = pygeoip.GeoIP('GeoIP.dat') Location = gi.country_code_by_addr(self.request.remote_addr) (pygeoip can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/pygeoip/) I want to geolocate each page of my app for a user so currently I lookup the IP address once then store it in memcache. My question - which is quicker? Looking up the IP address each time from the .dat file or fetching it from memcache? Are there any other pros/cons I need to be aware of? For general queries like this, is there a good guide to teach me how to optimise my code and run speed tests myself? I'm new to python and coding in general so apologies if this is a basic concept.
