  I'm studying for my CCNA exam and I have to create a VLSM scheme using RIP-2 for the following requirements: (this is an exercise) Use the class C network 192.168.1.0 network for your point-to-point connections Using the Class A network 10.0.0.0, plan for the following number of hosts in each location: New York: 1000 Chicago: 500 Los Angeles: 1000 On the LAN and point-to-point connections, select subnet masks that use the smallest ranges of IP addresses possible given the above requirements. In all cases, use the lowest possible subnet numbers. Subnet zero is allowed. My guess is the following: New York: S0/0 192.168.1.1 /24 Fa0/0 10.1.0.1 netmask 255.255.248.0 - because we need 1000 hosts Chicago: S0/0 192.168.1.2 /24 Fa0/0 10.2.0.1 netmask 255.255.252.0 (for 500 hosts) Los Angeles: S0/0 192.168.2.3 /24 Fa0/0 10.3.0.1 netmask 255.255.248.0 (for 1000 hosts) Is this a good configuration? • '0' inserted when cross-referencing numbered equations in MSWord 2007

  I am inserting numbered equations using tables and multi-level lists as described in http://blogs.msdn.com/b/microsoft_office_word/archive/2006/10/20/equation-numbering.aspx I want to cross-reference the equations in my text. To do so I go to Insert-Cross reference and among the "Numbered Items" I pick the equation I wish to refer to. The problem is that if I pick the "Insert reference to" as "Paragraph number" a zero is always inserted into my text. The surprising thing is that the hyperlink in the cross-reference points to the correct equation. Also if I choose "Insert reference to" as "Page number" then the correct page numbers are inserted and they are correctly updated too.

• Windows 7 systeminfo reporting incorrect System Boot Time?

  I work 9-5 and switch my PC off when I leave the office each day. When doing timesheets I need to know what time I got to work, so I usually use cmd systeminfo for finding the System Boot Time. Since upgrading to Windows 7 however, it's started reporting bizarre numbers between 11pm-2am instead of 8-9am. Today it says it booted at 11:34pm last night! I checked the event log and there is no entries between when I shutdown at 5:30pm yesterday and booted around 8am this morning. Has anyone else encountered this?

When you access, theres a default internal sharepoint site "companyweb" but we dont want to use that we want the main sharepoint site which has all the business on it. is this possible? Currently we have to connect to a computer, chose the server and then get in that way. Any ideas?

• Automatically detect faces in a picture

  At my work place, passport sized photographs are scanned together, then cut up into individual pictures and saved with unique file numbers. Currently we use Paint.net to manually select, cut and save the pictures. I have seen Sony's Cybershot Camera has face detection. Google also gives me something about iphoto when searching for face detection. Picasa has facedetection too. Are there any ways to autodetect the faces in a document, which would improve productivity at my workplace by reducing the time needed to cut up individual images. Sample Scanned Document(A real document has 5 rows of 4 images each=20 pics): (from: http://www.memorykeeperphoto.com/images/passport_photo.jpg, fairuse) For eg. In Picasa 3.8, On clicking View People, all the faces are shown and I am asked to name them, can I save these individual pictures automatically with the names as different pictures.

• Undeliverable messages to newly migrated Exchange user

  We are in the process of migrating from our old domain to a new one, part of which involves migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. A bunch of users have been migrated already without problems. However, one of the users is having trouble receiving emails from others. When someone sends to him, they get an Undeliverable NDR that says "A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients." The message shows the user's distinguished name as /OU=OurDomain/CN=Recipients/CN=USER57137172. The user's account name should just be "USER", so I don't know where the extra numbers ("57137172") are coming from. Thanks in advance.

• Xdebug 2.0.5 with Zend Server CE PHP5.2.12 possible?

  I'm using Zend Server CE with PHP 5.2.12 on OSX Snow Leopard and want to use Xdebug. I've turned off Zend Data Cache, Zend Optimizer+, and Zend Debugger in the console. When I run $ cd ~/Downloads/xdebug-2.0.5 $ /usr/local/zend/bin/phpize I get Configuring for: PHP Api Version: 20041225 Zend Module Api No: 20060613 Zend Extension Api No: 220060519 The PHP API Version, 20041225, seems to be off from the documentation (aka wrong). When I continue installation with $ ./configure ---with-php-config=/usr/local/zend/bin/php-config $ make $ sudo make install The installed xdebug.so seems to be the wrong one. Which version of xdebug do I need for this PHP API version? The Zend API numbers are ok. I'm just confused at why the PHP API Version doesn't match. • How can I scrape specific data from a website

  I'm trying to scrape data from a website for research. The urls are nicely organized in an example.com/x format, with x as an ascending number and all of the pages are structured in the same way. I just need to grab certain headings and a few numbers which are always in the same locations. I'll then need to get this data into structured form for analysis in Excel. I have used wget before to download pages, but I can't figure out how to grab specific lines of text. Excel has a feature to grab data from the web (Data-From Web) but from what I can see it only allows me to download tables. Unfortunately, the data I need is not in tables.

  I want to remove RC4 from Google Chrome and found the commandline option --cipher-suite-blacklist. However I wasn't able to figure out what the correct notation for RC4 is. Whatever I tried so far only brought the message: ERROR:ssl_config_service_manager_pref.cc(55)] Ignoring unrecognized or \ unparsable cipher suite: Even the names listed in ssl_cipher_suite_names.cc don't work. What should I enter to remove RC4 as a cipher for SSL/TLS? I'm working with some different versions of GNU/Linux and sometimes also with Windows. So it would be nice if the command-line argument would work under all OSes. • IIS6 cannot start additional processes when page request is called from other than localhost

  I have a web application dll that is running under iis6. This is starting a number of processes to be able to handle more than one request at the time. This is working perfect in a numbers of installations. In this particular installation, it runs perfectly when initialized by a call in IE on the server using http://localhost/apppath . The problem is when the processes are from another location, i.e. another computer on the same network initialising the call throught http://servername/apppath . In this case, the initial dll running under iis is executing (proved by logging), but it fails to initialize the additional processes. If the additional processes are already initialized by a call from localhost, it also works when called from another machine (in this case, it is just attached to the existing processes).

  Hey everybody, I'm writing a php site that's expected to get about 200-300 concurrent users browsing it. When initializing the application will load about 30 php classes, some 10 maybe 15 images and a couple of css files. So my question is what else can I do (except optimizing my code and using apc/eaccelerator for php) to get as close as possible to those numbers of concurrent users ? Currently we haven't chosen a server for the site to be hosted on but most probably it'll be a VPS Dual core + 2 or maybe 4gb ram. Is it possible for such a server to handle that load ? Also how could I test it myself and be sure that it'll be able to handle it ? Thanks in advance, Me

• What would cause different rates of packet loss between client and server in UDP?

  If I've implemented a reliable UDP file transfer protocol and I have a file that deliberately drops a percentage of packets when I transmit, why would it be more evident that transmission time increases as the packet loss percentage increases going from the client to server as opposed from the server to the client? Is this something that can be explained as a result of the protocol? Here are my numbers from two separate experiments. I kept the max packet size to 500 Bytes and the opposite direction packet loss to 5% with a 1 Megabyte file: Server to Client loss Percentage varied: 1 MB file, 500 b segments, client to server loss 5% 1% : 17253 ms 3% : 3388 ms 5% : 7252 ms 10% : 6229 ms 11% : 12346 ms 13% : 11282 ms 15% : 9252 ms 20% : 11266 ms Client to Server loss percentage varied 1 MB file, 500 b segments, server to client loss 5% 1%: 4227 ms 3%: 4334 ms 5%: 3308 ms 10%: 31350 ms 11%: 36398 ms 13%: 48436 ms 15%: 65475 ms 20%: 120515 ms You can clearly see an exponential increase in the client to server group

• Excel macro: Replace enitre cell contents; replace 1 but not 10, 11, 21 etc

  I need to replace a large amount of numbers with words in an Excel spreadsheet. Eg: 1 = hello 12 = goodbye 4 = cat etc. I can do it with the standard search and replace, but i have a large list to work through (about 240 number/word combos), so i figured i would use a macro. I have this: Sub findreplacer() For Each mycell In Range("A1:A1000") mycell.Replace What:="1", Replacement:="hello" mycell.Replace What:="12", Replacement:="goodbye" mycell.Replace What:="4", Replacement:="cat" Next End Sub But it replaces the 1 in 12 so the cell reads hello2 instead of goodbye. How can i make it just affect cells that only contain the specific number, the way 'match entire cell contents' works? Any help appreciated.

• Commercial NAS RAID1 disks moved to Software Raid system?

  I've got a couple of commercial NAS boxes and I'm wondering if they (ReadyNas duo, DLink DNS-323) or any other NAS is suitable for having their RAIDed disks moved to a software-based NAS. To be specific, I'm a big fan of the (largely) Debian-based Ubuntu. Can the aforementioned NAS drives be migrated to Ubuntu (e.g. using the mdadm Linux command)? Secondly, is there any commercial NAS that can be migrated over?   I keep getting an IP conflict on my home network and can't figure out why. I'm running a Belkin-N wireless router that has an Ethernet connection to my 360 and a wireless connection running to my laptop. It's WPA2 encryption and I have a nice password on my router consisting of letters , numbers and special characters. But for some reason I keep getting IP conflicts at night time...By the time I look into the problem I don't see anyone else on the network. Is my router giving me false positives?

  From time to time, when I browse the internet , after entering a site's URL , I get a warning message that a pop up has been blocked , then a question mark and a set of numbers appends itself after the URL. It doesn't matter what site I want to navigate to, it can be a site I have developed, a well know site like drupal.org for instance. Here's what happens: enter url: example.com warning: pop up blocked url change to: example.com/?1347628900 After checking the pop up ( which of course turns out to be an unwanted ad ), i deducted that the request and the pop up were linked. This has never happened to me before, I'm not sure how this got started, how can I get rid of this? Clearing the cache , cookies etc... doesn't solve the issue. I'm using a Macbook Pro OS10.6.7 , Chrome 13.0.782.24 beta. Thanks in advance for any tips!

  I have a rather annoying format I need to implement. There are 2 cells, both containing a date (cell A and B). B contains a date (24-06-2011). Cell B should be colored if cell A is between a date range, based on cell B. So if cell A lies between cell B - 7 days and cell B - 11 days, then it should be triggered. So with numbers: If B is 24-06-2011 then the range (which is not in any cell in the spreadsheet) is 13-06-2011 until 17-06-2011. If the date in cell A (let's say 14-06-2011) is in that range, cell B should be colored. Any ideas?

  I am trying to make an ahk for putty to send the keycodes that I want for some key combinations in order for my program to work over terminal too. For this I have an ahk already with some key combinations working properly by experimenting awfully much time from here and there, from key tables, etc but I still don't get, did not came up with a clear, logical method to calculate the escape key that I want. An example: ^F1::SendInput ^[O5P It gives 28 in my test prog. I see that for ^[1 I get 377 and for ^[2 376... and I see that there can be used letters out of the hexa numbers (A-F) and also ; and ~ or double [[ Do you understand how this works? • perfmon reporting higher IOPs than possible?

  We created a monitoring report for IOPs on performance counters using Disk reads/sec and Disk writes/sec on four servers (physical boxes, no virtualization) that have 4x 15k 146GB SAS drives in RAID10 per server, set to check and record data every 1 second, and logged for 24 hours before stopping reports. These are the results we got: Server1 Maximum disk reads/sec: 4249.437 Maximum disk writes/sec: 4178.946 Server2 Maximum disk reads/sec: 2550.140 Maximum disk writes/sec: 5177.821 Server3 Maximum disk reads/sec: 1903.300 Maximum disk writes/sec: 5299.036 Server4 Maximum disk reads/sec: 8453.572 Maximum disk writes/sec: 11584.653 The average disk reads and writes per second were generally low. I.e. for one particular server it was like average 33 writes/sec, but when monitoring in real-time it would often spike up to several hundreds and also sometimes into the thousands. Could someone explain to me why these numbers are significantly higher than theoretical calculations assuming each drive can do 180 IOPs? Additional details (RAID card): HP Smart Array P410i, Total cache size of 1GB, Write cache is disabled, Array accelerator cache ratio is 25% read and 75% write
