  • xen 4.1 host priodically dropping network packets of domU

    - by Dyutiman Chakraborty
    I have xen 4.1 Host running on a ubuntu 12.04 LTS Server with ip 153.x.x.54. I have setup 2 VMs on it, namely, "dev.mydomain.com" and "web.mydomain.com" with ips 195.X.X.2 and 195.x.x.3 respectively. For network the VMs connect through xendbr0 (xen-bridge), and can accces the network properly. I can also login to the VMs with ssh with no issue. However when I ping any of the VMs, there is a high amount of periodic packet drop. If I the ping the xen host (dom0) there is no packet drop. Following is a output of "tcpdump | grep ICMP" on dOM0 while I was pinging one of the domU tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes 05:19:55.682493 IP ABTS-North-Dynamic-226.X.X.122.airtelbroadband.in > web.mydomain.com: ICMP echo request, id 3460, seq 30, length 64 05:19:56.691144 IP I checked in tomcat catalina.out and it says: INFO: JK: ajp13 listening on /0.0.0.0:8014 UPDATE: i put mod_jk log level to debug and below is the result: [Wed Jun 13 18:44:26 2012] [9552:3086317328] [debug] jk_set_time_fmt::jk_util.c (458): Pre-processed log time stamp format is '[%a %b %d %H:%M:%S %Y] ' [Wed Jun 13 18:44:26 2012] [9552:3086317328] [debug] uri_worker_map_open::jk_uri_worker_map.c (770): rule map size is 8 [Wed Jun 13 18:44:26 2012] [9552:3086317328] [debug] uri_worker_map_add::jk_uri_worker_map.c (720): wildchar rule '/myWebApp/*=worker4' source 'JkMount' was added [Wed Jun 13 18:44:26 2012] [9552:3086317328] [debug] uri_worker_map_dump::jk_uri_worker_map.c (171): uri map dump after map open: index=0 file='(null)' reject_unsafe=0 reload=60 modified=0 checked=0 [Wed Jun 13 18:44:26 2012] [9552:3086317328] [debug] uri_worker_map_dump::jk_uri_worker_map.c (176): generation 0: size=0 nosize=0 capacity=0 [Wed Jun 13 18:44:26 2012] [9552:3086317328] [debug] uri_worker_map_dump::jk_uri_worker_map.c (176): generation 1: size=8 nosize=0 capacity=8 [Wed Jun 13 18:44:26 2012] [9552:3086317328] [debug] uri_worker_map_dump::jk_uri_worker_map.c (186): NEXT (1) map #3: uri=/myWebApp/* worker=worker4 context=/myWebApp/* source=JkMount type=Wildchar len=6 [Wed Jun 13 18:44:26 2012] [9552:3086317328] [debug] jk_set_time_fmt::jk_util.c (458): Pre-processed log time stamp format is '[%a %b %d %H:%M:%S %Y] ' [Wed Jun 13 18:44:26 2012] [9552:3086317328] [debug] init_jk::mod_jk.c (3123): Setting default connection pool max size to 1 [Wed Jun 13 18:44:26 2012] [9552:3086317328] [debug] jk_map_read_property::jk_map.c (491): Adding property 'worker.list' with value 'worker1,worker2,worker3,worker4' to map.   • OpenVPN - Windows 8 to Windows 2008 Server, not connecting

    - by niico
I have followed this tutorial about setting up an OpenVPN Server on Windows Server - and a client on Windows (in this case Windows 8). The server appears to be running fine - but it is not connecting with this error: Mon Jul 22 19:09:04 2013 Warning: cannot open --log file: C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\log\my-laptop.log: Access is denied. • ARR troubleshooting 502.3 / WinHttp tracing on Server 2012

    - by nachojammers
I have the following scenario: 3 windows server 2012 virtual servers, all with IIS 8: 1 server with Application Request Routing 3 2 servers with the web applications that the ARR server routes to I am getting intermittent 502 3 12002 errors. Following this guide http://www.iis.net/learn/extensions/troubleshooting-application-request-routing/troubleshooting-502-errors-in-arr I have identified that I need to trace using netsh the WinHttp/WebIO providers to get to the real error code that is mapped to the 12002 error code. I run the trace as the article suggests: netsh trace start scenario=internetclient capture=yes persistent=no level=verbose tracefile=c:\temp\net.etl When analysing the output of the netsh traces, I don't get the level of information that the article suggests I should. Specifically I only get the following types of entry in the trace viewed using netmon: WINHTTP_MicrosoftWindowsWinHttp:Stopping WorkItem Thread Action... WINHTTP_MicrosoftWindowsWinHttp:Starting WorkItem Thread Action... WINHTTP_MicrosoftWindowsWinHttp:Queue Overlapped IO Thread Action... I certainly don't get anything detailed enough that would help me understand why am getting any timeouts. Is there any reason why Server 2012 wouldn't trace the WinHttp API to the level I need? Thanks

  • Disable Java Hardware Acceleration in windows?

    - by Odys
I have some issues with my graphics card and I want to disable Hardware Acceleration for java apps. Everything that uses HA is displayed blurry. I've seen some tutorials on how to set this parameter -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false The problem is that the Java Control panel itself is using hardware acceleration and I cannot see anything in order to add this parameter. Edit: Went to java control panel in safe mode, added that parameter and problem continues.. Is there a possibility that applications can override these settings?

  • Excel techniques for perfmon csv log file analysis

    - by Aszurom
I have perfmon running against several servers, where I'm outputting to a .csv file data like CPU %time, memory bytes free, hard disk I/O metrics like s/write and writes/s. The ones graphing the SQL servers are also collecting SQL stats. The web servers are collecting .Net relevant stuff. I am aware of PAL, and used it as a template of what data to capture based on server type actually. I just don't think the output it generates is detailed or flexible enough - but it does a pretty remarkable job of parsing logs and making graphs. I'm borderline incompetent with Excel, so I'm hoping to be directed to some knowledge of how to take a perfmon output .csv and mine it in Excel to produce some numbers that are meaningful to me as a sysadmin. I could of course just pick a range of data and assemble a graph out of that and look for spikes and trends, but I'm convinced there is some technique to this that makes it more manageable than looking at a monsterous spreadsheet of numbers and trying to make graphs of it. Plus, it's pretty time consuming and not something I can do as a "take a glance at the servers" sort of routine. I'm graphing CPU, disk use, network b/sec, etc. in Cacti as well, which is nice for seeing big trends. The problem is that it is 5 minute averages, so a server could have a problem but it's intermittent and washes out in a 5 min average. What do you do with perfmon data that I could learn from?

  • Wacom consumer tablet driver service may crash while opening Bamboo Preferences, often after resuming computer from sleep

    - by DragonLord
One of the ExpressKeys on my Wacom Bamboo Capture graphics tablet is mapped to Bamboo Preferences, so that I can quickly access the tablet settings and view the battery level (I have the Wireless Accessory Kit installed). However, when I connect the tablet to the computer, in wired or wireless mode, and attempt to open Bamboo Preferences, the Wacom consumer tablet driver service may crash, most often when I try to do so after resuming the computer from sleep. There is usually no direct indication of the crash (although I once did get Tablet Service for consumer driver stopped working and was closed), only that the cursor shows that the system is busy for a split second. When this happens, the pen no longer tracks on the screen when in proximity of the tablet (even though it is detected by the tablet itself); however, touch continues to function correctly. To recover from this condition, I need to restart the tablet driver services. I got tired of having to go through Task Manager to restart the service every time this happens, so I ended up writing the following command script, with a shortcut on the desktop for running it with elevated privileges: net stop TabletServicePen net start TabletServicePen net stop TouchServicePen net start TouchServicePen Is there something I can do to prevent these crashes from happening in the first place, or do I have have to deal with this issue until the driver is updated? Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Tablet drivers are up to date. • Can't access IIS 7 server URL from the same IIS 7 server.

    - by Kevin Raffay
We have an intranet site ie, xxx.yyyy.com, that users access by entering "http"://xxx.yyy.com. Our problems started when we migrated to IIS 7 running on a new 2003 server. We got rid of our single-sign on code and implemented a security model where we capture a user's domain credentials which we then authenticate against a DB. In order to get the domain credentials passed to our ASP.NET app, we have the following settings: Anonymous Authentication:Disabled ASP.NET Impersonation: Enabled Basic/Digest/Forms Authentication: Disabled Windows Authentication: Enabled We allow "*" and deny "?" in the web.config. Browsing "http"://xxx.yyy.com from any client PC results in a domain login prompt, and if your enter a proper user/pwd, you can get in. However, browsing "http"://xxx.yyy.com while remoting into the server results in 3 domain login prompts and eventually a 401 error - unauthorized. We have traced this behavior to problems with our web site where we have pages doing "screen scraping" using the HttpRequest calling a url on the same server. When doing a HttpRequest from any other client, using a test harness that passes authorized credentials, all is good. So internal HttpRequest calls on the server fail, just like attempts to browse that server's url from within a remote session. Why would a to "http"://xxx.yyy.com on server xxx.yyy.com fail authentication?

  • Configure IPv6 routing

    - by godlark
I've got IPv6 addresses from SIXXS. My host is connected with SIXXS network over a AICCU tunnel ("sixxs" interface). My host address is 2001:::2, the host on the end has address 2001:::1. On my host IPv6 is fully accessible. I have problem with configuring IPv6 network on VMs. I use VirtualBox, the VM (Ubuntu) uses tap1 (on the host bridged by br0) #!/bin/sh PATH=/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin # create a tap tunctl -t tap1 ip link set up dev tap1 # create the bridge brctl addbr br0 brctl addif br0 tap1 # set the IP address and routing ip link set up dev br0 ip -6 route del 2001:6a0:200:172::/64 dev sixxs ip -6 route add 2001:6a0:200:172::1 dev sixxs ip -6 addr add 2001:6a0:200:172::2/64 dev br0 ip -6 route add 2001:6a0:200:172::2/64 dev br0 Host: routing table: 2001:6a0:200:172::1 dev sixxs metric 1024 2001:6a0:200:172::/64 dev br0 proto kernel metric 256 2001:6a0:200:172::/64 dev br0 metric 1024 2000::/3 dev sixxs metric 1024 fe80::/64 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 fe80::/64 dev sixxs proto kernel metric 256 fe80::/64 dev br0 proto kernel metric 256 fe80::/64 dev tap1 proto kernel metric 256 default via 2001:6a0:200:172::1 dev sixxs metric 1024 Guest: interface eth1 (it is connected with tap1): auto eth1 iface eth1 inet6 static address 2001:6a0:200:172::3 netmask 64 gateway 2001:6a0:200:172::2 Guest: routing table 2001:6a0:200:172::/64 dev eth1 proto kernel metric 256 fe80::/64 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 fe80::/64 dev eth1 proto kernel metric 256 default via 2001:6a0:200:172::2 dev eth1 metric 1024 The guest pings to the host, the host pings to the guest, the host pings to 2001:6a0:200:172::1, but the guest doesn't ping to 2001:6a0:200:172::1. The guest tries to ping, on the host (by tcdump) I can capture its packets, but the host doesn't send them to 2001:6a0:200:172::1. What have I missed in configuration?

  • Latency between IIS and SQL on same physical, two VMs

    - by Jerad Rose
I have a single server (2x4 core CPUs, 32GB ram), that is a Windows Server 2012 Hyper V host, and it hosts two guest VMs (also Windows Server 2012 instances). One of them is a web server, the other is a SQL server. When hitting a page that loops over 50 records, there is noticeable latency. I capture/report the timings of each iteration on the loop, and each iteration is about 20-30 milliseconds. Of course, this amounts to over a second of latency for the whole loop. I thought maybe SQL needed to be tuned, but running profiler on it, the queries are showing almost 0 duration, so it seems the bottleneck is in transit between the two VMs. I have both VMs configured to use the actual NIC (vs. using a VNIC), so maybe that's part of my problem. Also, this is a classic ASP site, so it's using the SQL OLE DB provider, and I'm wondering if that is part of the problem. This is a new server setup, from an existing Windows 2003/IIS6 server setup where both web and DB run on the same server instance (no virtualization). On that setup, there is no such latency when looping over the cursor like this. But there are so many variables, I'm not sure where to start ruling things out.

  • can't find port 22 traffic under VirtualBox

I'm trying to learn to use tcpdump. I thought I'd eavesdrop on my ssh login. The setup is a bit unusual, I have OS X Lion running VirtualBox, with Ubuntu running in the VM. I have ssh enabled and can login from OS X normally: > ssh -p 22 10.0.1.2 -l telliott Welcome to Ubuntu 11.10 (GNU/Linux 3.0.0-17-generic i686) * Documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com/ 0 packages can be updated. 0 updates are security updates. From OS X, stroke gives what I expect: > ./stroke 10.0.1.2 22 22 Port Scanning host: 10.0.1.2 Open TCP Port: 22 ssh So from OS X I do: > sudo tcpdump -i en1 -v port 22 Password: tcpdump: listening on en1, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes Then I login from OS X to Ubuntu using ssh, but I see nothing with tcpdump. • Making the iPhone work with stripped down Windows XP

    - by Gabriel
Hi, this is my first time posting here and I have a really specific question. I have an ASUS eee 901 running Windows XP Home. I had everything working well, but then I decided to improve performance by moving Windows to the smaller but faster internal SSD. I used Nlite to strip down Windows, following the instructions here: http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:nlitexp I now have a very lightweight installation of XP home with SP3 and all the current updates. Almost everything is working really well. I have installed iTunes and I CAN sync with no problems. However, each time I plug in my iPhone 3GS (latest firmware), Windows tries and fails to install drivers. The Found New Hardware Wizard launches, but nothing I do will make it complete successfully, with the result that the iphone does not show up in Windows as removable storage, or as a camera. When I launch the Camera and Scanner Wizard, it shows only my webcam, not the iphone. I have verified that I have the following files in place: Windows\System32\ptpusb.dll (regsvr32 successful) Windows\System32\ptpusd.dll (entry point not found, can not be registered) Windows\System32\usbaaplrc.dll (entry point not found, can not be registered) Windows\System32\drivers\usbaapl.sys Windows\System32\drivers\usbscan.sys Windows\System32\drivers\usbstor.sys Does anyone know if some other file is required or if there's some other element preventing this from working? Edit (From posted answer) I did select Cameras & Camcorders, and my webcam is working fine for video & still capture.

  • Identifying mail account used in CRAM-MD5 transaction

    - by ManiacZX
I suppose this is one of those where the tool for identifying the problem is also the tool used for taking advantage of it. I have a mail server that I am seeing emails that spam is being sent through it. It is not an open relay, the messages in question are being sent by someone authenticating to the smtp with CRAM-MD5. However, the logs only capture the actual data passed, which has been hashed so I cannot see what user account is being used. My suspicion is a simple username/password combo or a user account's password has otherwise been compromised, but I cannot do much about it without knowing what user it is. Of course I can block the IP that is doing it, but that doesn't fix the real problem. I have both the CRAM-MD5 Base64 challenge string and the hashed client auth string containing the username, password and challenge string. I am looking for a way to either reverse this (which I haven't been able to find any information on) or otherwise I suppose I need a dictionary attack tool designed for CRAM-MD5 to run through two lists, one for username and one for password and the constant of the challenge string until it finds a matching result of the authentication string I have logged. Any information on reversing using the data I have logged, a tool to identify it or any alternative methods you have used for this situation would be greatly appreciated.

However, due to the fact i only have 5 public ipv4 ip addresses, i would like to port forward services like so: hostip:port - kvm_guest:port UPDATE I found out KVM comes with a "default" NAT interface, so added the virtual NIC to the Guest virsh configuration then configured it in the Guest, it has the ip address: 192.168.122.112 I can successfully ping 192.168.122.112 and access all ports on 192.168.122.112 from the KVM Host, so i tried to port forward like so: iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 5222 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.122.112:2521 iptables -I FORWARD -m state -d 192.168.122.0/24 --state NEW,RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT telnet KVM_HOST_IP 5222 just hangs on "trying" telnet 192.168.122.112 2521 works [root@node1 ~]# tcpdump port 5222 tcpdump: WARNING: eth0: no IPv4 address assigned tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes 23:43:47.216181 IP 1.152.245.247.51183 > null.xmpp-client: Flags [S], seq 1183303931, win 65535, options [mss 1400,nop,wscale 3,nop,nop,TS val 445777813 ecr 0,sackOK,eol], length 0 23:43:48.315747 IP 1.152.245.247.51183 > null.xmpp-client: Flags [S], seq 1183303931, win 65535, options [mss 1400,nop,wscale 3,nop,nop,TS val 445778912 ecr 0,sackOK,eol], length 0 23:43:49.415606 IP 1.152.245.247.51183 > null.xmpp-client: Flags [S], seq 1183303931, win 65535, options [mss 1400,nop,wscale 3,nop,nop,TS val 445780010 ecr 0,sackOK,eol], length 0 7 packets received by filter 0 packets dropped by kernel [root@node1 ~]# iptables -L Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination ACCEPT all -- anywhere 192.168.122.0/24 state NEW,RELATED,ESTABLISHED Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination All help is appreciated. • Take snapshot of drawing using FingerPaint

    - by Rashmi.B
    I am using MyView for drawing content on a canvas using FingerPaint API demo app. I want to capture whatever I have written on the canvas. But when I use View v1 = myview.getRootView() it is returning only the blank canvas and not the content. I want to save my drawing in SDCard. Following is my code. Let me know what do i need to change v1 = myview.getRootView(); System.out.println("v1 value = "+v1); v1.buildDrawingCache(true); v1.measure(MeasureSpec.makeMeasureSpec(0, MeasureSpec.UNSPECIFIED), MeasureSpec.makeMeasureSpec(0, MeasureSpec.UNSPECIFIED)); //v1.layout(0, 0, v1.getMeasuredWidth(), v1.getMeasuredHeight()); v1.layout(0, 0, 100, 100); //Bitmap b = Bitmap.createBitmap(v1.getDrawingCache()); myview.mBitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap(v1.getDrawingCache()); System.out.println("BITMAP VALue = "+myview.mBitmap); ByteArrayOutputStream bytes = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); //b.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 40, bytes); File f = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+ File.separator + "rashmitest.jpg"); try { f.createNewFile(); FileOutputStream fo = new FileOutputStream(f); fo.write(bytes.toByteArray()); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } v1.setDrawingCacheEnabled(false); myview is an object of class MyView that extends View.

  • Member Status: Inquorate in RHEL 5.6

    - by Eugene S
I've encountered a strange issue. I had to change the time on my Linux RHEL cluster system. I've done it using the following command from the root user: date +%T -s "10:13:13" After doing this, some message appeared relating to <emerg> #1: Quorum Dissolved (however I didn't capture the message completely). In order to investigate the issue I looked at /var/log/messages and I've discovered these errors. Below is the output of few commands I got when tried to investigate the issue, however I don't have enough knowledge to make use of this information. • EnOcean -> USB Serial Communication (C++)

    - by regorianer
I guess it is not the right place to ask here for enocean specific details, but maybe I am doing something wrong by using serial connections and you can help me no matter if there is knowledge about this technology or not. I have a problem to communicate with the RCM152 Module. I have written a C++ program to communicate with the RCM152 by emulating packets of the PTM 200. I teach the RCM152 to listen to the following packets: [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 55 <-- start byte [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 00 <-- head begin [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 07 [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 07 [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 01 <-- head end [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 7a <-- CRC Check [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : f6 <-- packet type [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 20 <-- My action (00 and 10 -> OFF, 20 and 30 -> ON) [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 00 <-- serial.byte 3 [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 24 <-- serial.byte 2 [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 21 <-- serial.byte 1 [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 87 <-- serial.byte 0 [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 30 <-- status [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 03 <-- 03 for send, 01 for receiver [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : ff <-- begin destination [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : ff [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : ff [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : ff <-- end destination [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : ff <-- Transmission quality (sender ff) [06/19/12 04:21:44.546] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 00 [06/19/12 04:21:44.547] INFO: SENDING BYTE : 10 <-- CRC Check A PTM200 Device or a SG-FUS-24-230 Device are sending equivalent packets like: [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 55 [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 00 [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 07 [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 07 [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 01 [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 7a [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: f6 [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 40 [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 00 [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 24 [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 6c [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 2f [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 30 [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: 01 [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: ff [06/19/12 04:30:31.106] INFO: Received Byte: ff [06/19/12 04:30:31.108] INFO: Received Byte: ff [06/19/12 04:30:31.108] INFO: Received Byte: ff [06/19/12 04:30:31.108] INFO: Received Byte: 37 [06/19/12 04:30:31.108] INFO: Received Byte: 00 [06/19/12 04:30:31.108] INFO: Received Byte: d1 I can control the device connected to the RCM152 like I want to with my sending packets (thats a good fact and means that the RCM152 has learned my packets and can use them. Also the actions (0x10 - ON, 0x30 - OFF) are working fine), but the problem is, that no matter which serial I choose, the RCM152 reacts to these packets. I only want to have actions if the teached-in serial is send and all other packets with different serials to be ignored. The RCM152 is not reacting to the packets sent by the PTM200 nor by the SG-FUS-24-230 because these are not teached-in. Thats exactly what I want to have with the packets created myself. What am I doing wrong? The libraries I am using are these for C++ http://pvbrowser.de/pvbrowser/sf/manual/rllib/html/ The enocean EEP says: For this purpose of a determined relationship between transmitter and receiver each transmitting device has a unique Sender-ID which is part of each radio telegram. The receiving device detects from the Sender-ID whether the device is known, i.e., was already learned, or unknown. A telegram with unknown Sender-ID is disregarded.

  • Is it possible to use XP visual styles (*.msstyles) or Windows Blinds in a thinapp portable applicat

    - by Camilo Martin
It's been a while since I made a portable (Office 2007) Thinapp application, and since then I've uninstalled VMWare from my machine to free up space, so I'd like to know if someone already knows the answer to this before I set up everything again to try it. I'm thinking of installing a visual style (*.msstyles, for XP) along with the application to thinapp before post-setup capture. Failing that, maybe I'll try with visual mods such as Windows Blinds. The purpose is to be able to run a portable application with a specific visual style. So my question is: Is it possible? (I believe it somehow is, since VirtualBox does something similar to XP Mode) If it is, will it work on a computer with the "classic" Windows style? If it's not, will it work with another virtualization software? (Xenocode?) If it's not possible with *.msstyles, will it work with visual mods such as Windows Blinds? Thanks for any input! (P.S.: Awfully tagged due to lack of relevant tags or 100+ rep to create a tag :P)

  • ULogd2.x - Documents - IPFIX data generation

    - by Gomathivinayagam
I would like to generate IPFIX data from the packets that are coming to my local system as part of experimentation. It seems ULogd is a good tool to do that. I am able to capture PCAP data. But there are very less documents available on ULogd2.x about IPFIX format data generation.(There are very few examples provided in ulogd.conf). Can you provide me any links that describes about how to generate IPFIX data using ulogd2.x? 1) What are the options available? I saw there is polling interval configuration. But I have no idea how does it work? 2) If I set hash_enable = 0, and uncomment the polling_interval value, I'm getting an exception as NFCT plugin requires hash table, evne though I have specified hash_buckets and hash_max_entries. Could you help on this? 3) In general, I would like to know how NFCT plugin works in ulogd2.x. I sent mail to ulogd mailing list, but there are no replies. Could you shed some light?

  • Oredev 2011 Trip Report

    - by arungupta
Oredev had its seventh annual conference in the city of Malmo, Sweden last week. The name "Oredev" signifies to the part that Malmo is connected with Copenhagen with Oresund bridge. There were about 1000 attendees with several speakers from all over the world. The first two days were hands-on workshops and the next three days were sessions. There were different tracks such as Java, Windows 8, .NET, Smart Phones, Architecture, Collaboration, and Entrepreneurship. And then there was Xtra(ck) which had interesting sessions not directly related to technology. I gave two slide-free talks in the Java track. The first one showed how to build an end-to-end Java EE 6 application using NetBeans and GlassFish. The complete instructions to build the application are explained in detail here. This 3-tier application used Java Persistence API, Enterprsie Java Beans, Servlet, Contexts and Dependency Injection, JavaServer Faces, and Java API for RESTful Services. The source code built during the application can be downloaded here (LINK TBD). The second session, slide-free again, showed how to take a Java EE 6 application into production using GlassFish cluster. It explained: Create a 2-instance GlassFish cluster Front-end with a Web server and a load balancer Demonstrate session replication and fail over Monitor the application using JavaScript The complete instructions for this session are available here. Oredev has an interesting way of collecting attendee feedback. The attendees drop a green, yellow, or red card in a bucket as they walk out of the session. Not everybody votes but most do. Other than the instantaneous feedback provided on twitter, this mechanism provides a more coarse grained feedback loop as well. The first talk had about 67 attendees (with 23 green and 7 yellow) and the second one had 22 (11 green and 11 yellow). The speakers' dinner is a good highlight of the conference. It is arranged in the historic city hall and the mayor welcomed all the speakers. As you can see in the pictures, it is a very royal building with lots of history behind it. Fortunately the dinner was a buffet with a much better variety unlike last year where only black soup and geese were served, which was quite cultural BTW ;-) The sauna in 85F, skinny dipping in 35F ocean and alternating between them at Kallbadhus is always very Swedish. Also spent a short evening at a friend's house socializing with other speaker/attendees, drinking Glogg, and eating Pepperkakor.  The welcome packet at the hotel also included cinnamon rolls, recommended to drink with cold milk, for a little more taste of Swedish culture. Something different at this conference was how artists from Image Think were visually capturing all the keynote speakers using images on whiteboards. Here are the images captured for Alexis Ohanian (Reddit co-founder and now running Hipmunk): Unfortunately I could not spend much time engaging with other speakers or attendees because was busy preparing a new hands-on lab material. But was able to spend some time with Matthew Mccullough, Micahel Tiberg, Magnus Martensson, Mattias Karlsson, Corey Haines, Patrick Kua, Charles Nutter, Tushara, Pradeep, Shmuel, and several other folks. Here are a few pictures captured from the event: And the complete album here: Thank you Matthias, Emily, and Kathy for putting up a great show and giving me an opportunity to speak at Oredev. I hope to be back next year with a more vibrant representation of Java - the language and the ecosystem!

  • How can I parse/ transform text log data before it gets captured in SCOM 2007 R2?

    - by Abs
I'm pretty much a noob with System Center Operations Manager 2007, and I'm probably missing something pretty basic, but I'm stumped anyway. We're setting up monitoring on some of our servers, and we'd like to capture data from some plain text log files (e.g. DNS debug logs, DHCP logs). It looks to me like I can set up a generic text file monitoring rule and get events captured into the main Ops Manager database, but my understanding is that the whole line of text from the plain text log gets captured as one field. In an ideal world, we'd be able to parse or transform that log file data to make it easier to query later. Is this possible? Is it easy? Do I have to buy expensive 3rd-party software to do it? One more thing: it would be even better if there was a way to stuff this data into the Audit Collection Services (ACS) database instead of the main one, but I'll take what I can get. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Do registry issues with Win7 persist through a recovery from a system image?

    - by user59089
So I need a bit of advice, please; here's my situation: I have 1) a system image on an a brand new external 1 TB SATA drive, that I managed to successfully capture before my 2) primary system drive went down. I realize this is a fairly simple matter of buying a new primary drive and performing the recovery to the fresh disk...however, the issue is that I believe Win7 was also having some significant issues of its own--basically, Update unable to install updates, and Backup continually ditching the auto backup schedule. I'd been trying to address those issues when my system was still working, but it's been so fruitless, I'm convinced a Win7 re-install would be best, and now I'm concerned that if I was in fact having what I believe are likely registry-related issues before, that these will persist through a recovery--would that likely be correct? I'm mainly worried about recovering my files, so if I did a full recovery from the image, should I be able to then access my individual files, and copy them manually to an external drive, so I can then do a full re-install of Win7? Sory if this seems obvious, but I've never done a recovery before and just trying to make sure there's no red flags with what I have in mind...
