• Font Size Based on Char or Number Data

  I am trying to find a way to display numerical digits as a larger font size than chars on a website (not my idea!). The reason for this is to make the numbers stand out. I have looked for a font that would satisfy this without coding but I could not find any. Also, I don't want to slow down the website by having the font coverted to an image. Does anyone have a solution to this ridiculous problem?

  I need to resize images and resample them so they don't end up all jagged (I think that's called aliasing). I found some code (sorry, lost the link) that does this in pure VB6 code but it's a bit slow (2-5 seconds) and I'm displaying pictures in real time so I need something faster. I seem to recall seeing some examples of doing this with the GDI+ library. An example in VB6 would be ideal, but I can probably work with a simple example with Windows API calls in another language.

  I have a neural network written in Java which uses a sigmoid transfer function defined as follows: private static double sigmoid(double x) { return 1 / (1 + Math.exp(-x)); } and this is called many times during training and computation using the network. Is there any way of speeding this up? It's not that it's slow, it's just that it is used a lot, so a small optimisation here would be a big overall gain.

  Hi all, im trying to get image size(DIMENSIONS) of hundreds of remote images and getimagesize is way too slow. ive done some reading and found out the quickest way would be to use get_file_contents to read a certain aount of bytes from the images and examining the size within the binary data.   how do you effectively debug on live server in rails, whether on a beta/production server? I tried modifying the file directly on the server, and restarting the app, but the changes does not seem to take effect, or takes a long time to (caching?) I also tried to do "script/server production" locally, but that is very slow The other option is to code and deploy, but that is very inefficient. The performance needs improvement so we've profiled the application and found that increasing the 'batch size' of the update will improve performance. I also know that if I load the entire data set into memory the application will start hitting swap and slow down. The question is: how big is a System.Data.DataRow derived class? I'd like to calculate a batch size which I know won't force the application into swap.

  Hi, If I have a column, set as primary index, and set as INT. If I don't set it as auto increment and just insert random integers which are unique into it, does that slow down future queries compared to autincrementing? Does it speed things up if I run OPTIMIZE on a table with its primary and only index as INT? (assuming only 2 columns, and second column is just some INT value) (the main worry is the upper limit on the autoincrement as theres lots of adds and deletes in my table)

• Rails and Python hosting problem

  I am trying to host some files/rails app in the port 8080 for external access. For python I am using the SimpleHTTPServer module, and for rails, webrick. However, both of them does not work very well. I don't get the response back, and, sometimes, if I get it, it's VERY slow. Nevertheless, apache works very well on the port 8080 (i am not running them at the same time). What is going on?
