  • Way to know if two partitions are in one physical hard disk without WMI?

    - by Alon
Hey. I have those partitions (in Windows) for example: Hard Disk 1 - Partition C, Partition D Hard Disk 2 - Partition E Is there any way in a program language to know if for example partition C and partition D are in one physical hard disk without WMI? I don't want to use WMI because it's slow - for this example, it took for me 0.5 seconds. I need it to be fast. Thank you.

  • Simple to program yet computationally difficult functions

    - by ViralShah
I need an example of a slow Excel sheet that could exist in the real world. Problem is I'm not sure what sort of functions are computationally difficult. Are there any sort of (maths?) functions that are easy enough to program that they can be used in Excel, yet computationally expensive? Something which has a real world application is a bonus.

  • FOSS solution for a local machine: DNS

    - by Shyam
Hi, I love my Mac. But I have always found that my DNS lookups are as slow, even while flushing caches and I travel over know roads on the Internet. I was wondering if someone would know something a bit more automatic/intelligent than /etc/hosts and less complex and iron forged as BIND. Thank you for your feedback and answers!

    - by Alex
Hi, I have a div absolutely positioned at top: 0px and right: 0px, and I would like to use jquery's .animate() to animate it from it's current position to left: 0px. How does one do this? I can't seem to get this to work: $("#coolDiv").animate({"left":"0px"}, "slow"); Why doesn't this work and how does one accomplish what I am looking to do? Thanks!!

  • Paperclip not running tasks but not showing errors

    - by Trip
This is strange. I just did a deploy to a cluster server, and since then, pictures have not been processing. Reading the logs, I usually do not get an error at all, but they never finish. However, on one particular image, I found this little bit at least, but this might not explain everything.. Any ideas? • Speed up :visible:input selector avoiding filter

    - by macca1
I have a jQuery selector that is running way too slow on my unfortunately large page: $("#section").find(":visible:input").filter(":first").focus(); Is there a quicker way to select the first visible input without having to find ALL the visible inputs and then filtering THAT selection for the first? I want something like :visible:input:first but that doesn't seem to work.

  • WPF on a iX104 Tablet PC - efficient enough?

    - by Casimodo72
Hi, I'm considering to use WPF for an application running on an iX104 (unfortunately I don't have one of those yet). Do you guys think that this combination would be efficient enough? Or is WPF just to slow for such a machine, so better stick with WinForms? Relevant specs of the iX104: Intel Pentium U2500 CoreDuo 2x 1.2 GHz 1 GB RAM, optional 2 GB 10.4" TFT, XGA 1024x768 Regards, Kasimier

  • Any way to make this PostgreSQL count query any faster?

    - by Ben Dauphinee
I'm running a case-insensitive search on a table with 7.2 million rows, and I was wondering if there was any way to make this query any faster? Currently, it takes approx 11.6 seconds to execute, with just one search parameter, and I'm worried that as soon as I add more than one, this query will become massively slow. SELECT count(*) FROM "exif_parse" WHERE (description ~* 'canon')

  • Should I move this task to a message queue?

    - by Fedyashev Nikita
I'm a big fan of using message queue systems(like Apache ActiveMQ) for the tasks which are rather slow and do not require instant feedback in User Interface. The question is: Should I use it for other tasks(which are pretty fast) and do not require instant feedback in User Interface? Or does it in involve another level of complexity without not so much benefits?

  • efficiently convert string (or tuple) to ctypes array

    - by Mu Mind
I've got code that takes a PIL image and converts it to a ctypes array to pass out to a C function: w_px, h_px = img.size pixels = struct.unpack('%dI'%(w_px*h_px), img.convert('RGBA').tostring()) pixels_array = (ctypes.c_int * len(pixels))(*pixels) But I'm dealing with big images, and unpacking that many items into function arguments seems to be noticeably slow. What's the simplest thing I can do to get a reasonable speedup? I'm only converting to a tuple as an intermediate step, so if it's unnecessary, all the better.

  • Future of IE9: Opacity + Performance

    - by chris_l
I just tried the IE9 "Second Internet Explorer Platform Preview" - which supports CSS opacity now. That's nice, but I tried it with one of my website prototypes, and it's quite slow when scrolling etc. Admittedly, the prototype uses hundreds of images with opacity != 1, but everything is snappy with current versions of Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera. Does anybody know, if there are plans for IE9 to become faster in this area? Even rumours about this would be interesting in this case.

  • XML Import how would you do it?

    - by Rico
XML is used as one of our main integration points. it comes over by many clients at a time but too many clients importing at the same time can slow down our database to a crawl. Someone has to have solved a problem like this. I am basically using VB to parse through the data and import what i want and don't want. Is there a better way?

  • how to manage 3000+ sound files

This is more of a management issue... Anyway We're currently making quiz-like game which, well includes a LOT of sound files, and it's bogging down xcode. It's so slow that scrolling up and down takes minutes.

  • slowing down a loop in a recursive function

    - by eco_bach
    I have a difficult problem with a recursive function. Essentially I need to 'slow down' a for loop within a function that repeatedly calls itself(the function); Is this possible, or do I need to somehow extract the recursive nature of the function? function callRecursiveFuncAgain(ob:Object):void{ //do recursive stuff; for (var i:int = 0; i < 4; i++) { _nextObj=foo callRecursiveFuncAgain(_nextObj); } }
