• Most standard / Best way to keep the same top menu among different web pages?

  What's the standard way to keep the same menu on top among different web pages without having to duplicate it on each page (I don't mean that it doesn't reload like when using frames and only loading the bottom part; I want the menu to scroll with the page when scrolling down, like this, this, this and pretty much every single web page that exists). I found this answer but the guy can't use Php and I can. Plus, I see several people giving different suggestions, but I assume there is a standard since pretty much every single web page in the whole web have a menu on top that stays the same among multiple pages . I'm just a newbie on web design (I can program Php and Html easily but I have no idea about standards and stuff like that since I'm self-taught guy ;)). What I would normally do is to include the menu with php but I'm not sure if this is the "standard".

• Root directory of the kernel

  A newbie here. I am trying to set up Eclipse for Linux Kernel Programming. The guide says set the project location as the root directory of the kernel. Where's the root directory of the kernel now? According to Linux file hierarchy system, it lists /lib as the root directory for shared libraries and kernel modules. I also see /lib32 and /lib64. However, I tried proceeding selecting /lib as the location and eclipse doesn't allow me to create the project.

  Hi, What are the best free CMSs or CMS plugins or ERPs or any other free tools available for developing a hospital management system? I want to develop it for a children's hospital run by my father. The hospital is small with two doctors. Currently, everything is done manually on paper. The main entities who will be using the system are: Receptionist, the two doctors, chemist and the medical laboratorist. They will use it majorly for keeping the records of the patient. The patients would not be interacting with the system directly. The system needs to be user friendly and should be easy to learn. I was thinking to develop such a system using a CMS or an ERP or any other free tool. I have used wordpress/drupal in past but never used an ERP. • How to create a Raining Effect(Particles) on Android?

  I am developing a 2d android strategy game, it runs on SurfaceView, so I can't(or can I?) use LibGdx's particle system. And I would like to make a raining effect, I am aiming for something like this( http://ridingwiththeriver.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/rain-fall-animation.gif ), I don't need the splash effect in the end (although that would be superb, but probably would take up a lot of system resources).   After fresh install 12.04 I && updating apt and system restart, I always get this annoying message after reboot : Failure to download extra data files The following packages requested additional data downloads after package installation, but the data could not be downloaded or could not be processed. ttf-mscorefonts-installer The download will be attempted again later, or you can try the download again now. Running this command requires an active Internet connection. But if I run attempt now, it shows flashing terminal window and like nothing happen. It'll happen again when I restart system. I found someone have this problem too, but he haven't replied yet. I'm a newbie here, please help, thanks ^^

• Hosted News Carousel

  I'm trying to add a news carousel on my OneHub site. I know there are quite a few plugins that I can use, but I'm looking for a ready-to-use hosted solution where people can log-on and manage the content, and I can simply include as an iFrame widget on our OneHub site. We would prefer to use Expression Engine, since we're using this on some of our other websites. It looks like Expression Engine + JQuery Cycle Rotator might be an option, not sure how easily I can get this onto OneHub though... WordPress has a carousel plugin as well that I'll explore. Anyhow, while I'm trying out these options, I figured I would put a question out there for any thoughts or advice, other solutions, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Alan

There were a couple of warnings at "sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic fglrx-legacy" with update-alternatives. But, at the last step I got "aticonfig: No supported adapters detected". Unity does not start anymore. I only can login to Gnome. How can I get back to a working system?

• Crossbrowser issue - navigation-menu [closed]

  I'm having issues with crossbrowser compatibility on my navigationmenu for my site. The issue is that it's not working as expected in MSIE. It bugs out on mouseover. The site is run with wordpress and the theme is called GreenChilli. It's a free theme from MyThemeShop and they don't seam to be very active in resolving free theme issues on their forum.   my specs intel mb dh67cl corsair 4gb ram nvidia 560ti gtx i5 processor dell 22" monitor 1920x1080 firstly, i began using ubuntu last year. now im in love with it. just one minor detail i dont like is that the bootscreen changed just after the first boot. now im using 12.04.1. i will explain how it happened. first i installed ubuntu via windows. so it booted for the first time and life was beautiful. the resolution was 1920x1080. then i installed the nvidia drivers, all the updates and codecs for the medias. now the ubuntu bootscreen downscaled to a lower resolution. i tried searching for answers, but nothing was for ubuntu 12.04.1. since im a newbie, i didnt want to take any chances. i need help. i like the bootscreen.

• juju: How do I list all the relation variables and debug them interactively?

  I'm writing a charm that requires a mysql database, I found from looking at other charms that this (below) is how I get the info about the database: user=`relation-get user` password=`relation-get password` mysqlhost=`relation-get private-address` But I just found that from reading the wordpress charm example, is there a way to show all the relation variables that I can use? Also, while debugging my db-relation-changed script, I wanted to ssh into my host and interactively run those commands, for example relation-get user, but it didn't work. I resorted to having to restart everything and use juju log to print them out. This wasted a lot of time. Is there a way to print out these relations, either from my dev box or from the instance running my charm? • New to Maven-- Creating Java EE Projects

  Greetings-- I've been developing Java EE web apps with Eclipse for about a year. My employer doesn't use Maven, but the more I read about it, the more convinced I am that Maven + Hudson will be greatly beneficial for us. First, though, I have to become comfortable with those technologies in my spare time, so that I can create a proof-of-concept. Right now, I'm still a Maven newbie. Is there a set of best practices for creating Java EE web apps with Maven? For example, I could create a project with a basic archetype and then add all of the necessary JARs by putting dependencies in the POM for the servlet container, EJB, EclipseLink, etc... That might work, but it might not be the best way to do it. I'd greatly appreciate any guidance that you could provide on this topic. Thank you very much!

  I'm working on a small project that will likely run on Wordpress, I always like to run some split testing to improve conversion rates for various goals. Typically if its a small site that I either don't have a budget for or want to keep it as inexpensive as possible I use Google Website Optimizer if I do have a budget I go with Visual Website Optimizer both are great and affordable, but for fun I was checking out alternatives and found Genetify which is an open source project and has some neat features. In searching around I don't see many people talking about it and wondered if anyone here has used it. If so what do you think about it?

• Ubuntu 12.04 Hangs with Software Center open then opening Dash Home

  I have a Dell D610 - Intel graphics - 1 Gig RAM. I have test the hard drive and RAM and both are fine. When I open Software Center, then Dash home my system locks up. The mouse cursor moves but is unresponsive if I try to right or left click anything. The keyboard is totally unresponsive and I have to hold the power button to power off! I have reinstalled from CD, did all updates but the issue persists. I tried using the track pad only, and I plugged in an external mouse also but no change. Everything else works great ! • Can't find my DVD drive in Ubuntu 12.04

  I am completely new to Linux, due to some problems in my Windows I decided to give Linux a try. I am quite liking it accept for some minor issues. The biggest of them is that I cannot find my DVD drive in Ubuntu. After I insert the disk, the drive's green light flickers and then nothing. I don't get anything on my unity bar or desktop. There is no folder inside my /dev folder which indicates a dvd drive. There is a cdrom folder in my root folder but nothing is there. If you guys know what's wrong, I'd appreciate the help. Am a complete newbie so don't expect me to know anything about Ubuntu, although I have spent lots of hours in last 2 days googling my issue so I have basic information...

  I am searching for any good site that teaches C++, that can explain most to all things about it(general) and has a decent active community. About Me: I am new to programming(knows nothing of it, so please bare with me), I have only learned(to a very basic form) LUA scripting Language, so yes I am your complete newbie. I got interested in programming, from scripting in LUA, so you can say it was my small stepping stone, One would basically take a course in college, but not everyone is well funded for that and I can't buy books for the same said reason(yes I'm somewhat poor, only money for essentials and bills), I'm not trying to get sympathy, just stating my conditions. and Please, something in between the lines of 'Programming for Dummies'(I'm not the brightest crayon in the box), I know this will not be easy, but your help will be most appreciated. I would learn for either Windows and/or Linux/Unix. I use both. Site(s) I know: Cplusplus.org(quite inactive and tutorials are a little for the programming savvy.

I have some prior application development experience in C#/python/C++/C. I am a noob in assembly language(very less experience and knowledge). I understand that in writing an operating system,we can't go without assembly language. Currently, I have just printed a string in assembly language in the boot sector using qemu and BIOS interrupts. What I want is that, can someone specifically point out the steps that I need to follow to make my operating systems run C programs. So that, I can start writing my OS in C. Any other piece of advice to help a newbie, regarding the same is also welcome. Although, I have looked into many os development related tutorials/websites, I can't seem to find this information anywhere.

• Pointers to implementing a taxonomy system?

  I am taking part in the development of a PHP CMS (yeah I know you are like, meeh). It is currently using simple tags for tagging content. What I want to do is push the whole thing to using Taxonomy but I am not sure on what to pay attention to, or how to go about structuring the whole vocabularies/terms. I'd love to be able to keep the user interaction close to that of the current simple tags and at the same time allow for more advanced usage by power users. The Drupal and the Wordpress taxonomy systems are being reviewed at the moment and they provide valuable resources. Nevertheless, it could be that someone has some simpler and more appropriate thoughts on this matter.

• How to restore "working folders" upon restart?

  I am not sure I am working the problem correctly but I will try my best. I am newbie to ubuntu and I am using Ubuntu 11.10. On a daily basis but I have a set of 5-10 folders which I need to refer for my work. I am looking for a way if I can create a "workspace" of these folders so that upon restart in a single click all the folders in the workspace can be opened in different tabs. Another option that I right now plan to use us create links of the folders and then select all of them and open in different tabs. Was wondering if there is a cleaner option already provided in ubuntu.

• Hide from google while developing

  I will be building a (wordpress) web site. While I am developing, other team members will be pushing content. I'd like to have it hidden from google while under development. It will be hosted on godaddy. I have thought of not pointing the domain name to it until live and using "preview dns", or buying a static IP during development. Or hosting dev site in a sub-directory ("/dev/") until ready and then moving it up a level. If in the dev directory I'd add htaccess or robots.txt to not crawl. Is any of this a bad idea? Will google penalize for any of this - like search by IP and then associate that with the domain later on? Any better ideas?
