• OMG. Is Webmin safe? I can see file codes in Chrome browser without login

  When Im in File Manager of Webmin, I can double click and see the codes of the files in new tab in Firefox with its specific URL. But when I remove ?rand=xxxx... after the file.php and paste the URL in Chrome browser, I still can see the codes. This is the URL I just pasted in the Chrome browser http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:10000/file/show.cgi/var/www/html/mysite.com/files/file.php And then, I logout of webmin, and I change the file.php with other file, I can see the codes. OMG. Is Webmin safe? and how to secure this?

  Hello! I have a domain, that is registered at a service provider but my site (wordpress blog) is hosted in a shared account with a friend in another other host service. I want to become seperate from this friend because I'm tired of boring him with my blog downtimes. Now, my problem is that I signed up to Amazon EC2 service and I created a instance (a virtual machine) to host my wordpress blog and now I'd like to redirect mydomain.com to this instance at Amazon EC2 and I don't know how to proceed in order to achieve that. The instance at Amazon EC2 is up and running (it's a 64bit linux machine) but I couldn't redirect mydomain.com to this instance at my host service webpanel. Could someone help me please???

  I have project hosted with gitolite on my own server, and I would like to deploy the whole project from gitolite bare repository to apache accessible place, by post-receive hook. I have next hook content echo "starting deploy..." WWW_ROOT="/var/www_virt.hosting/domain_name/htdocs/" GIT_WORK_TREE=$WWW_ROOT git checkout -f exec chmod -R 750 $WWW_ROOT exec chown -R www-data:www-data $WWW_ROOT echo "finished" hook can't be finished without any error message. chmod: changing permissions of `/var/www_virt.hosting/domain_name/file_name': Operation not permitted means that git has no enough right to make it. The git source path is /var/lib/gitolite/project.git/, which is owned by gitolite:gitolite And with this permissions redmine (been working under www-data user) can't achieve git repository to fetch all changes The whole project should be placed here: /var/www_virt.hosting/domain_name/htdocs/, which is owned by www-data:www-data. What changes I should do, to work properly post-receive hook in git, and redmine with repository ? what I did, is: # id www-data uid=33(www-data) gid=33(www-data) groups=33(www-data),119(gitolite) # id gitolite uid=110(gitolite) gid=119(gitolite) groups=119(gitolite),33(www-data) does not helped. • Lotus Notes won't open a hyperlink/uri in a browser!

  I'm still new to Lotus, but I have LN 8.0.2, and have it set up to open hyperlinks "using the browser i have set as the default for this operating system" which in my case is Firefox 3.6.13. If I try to select "use the browser embedded in this client" then it just forgets it after I click save (ie if i go back into preferences it's reset to the default for this operating system option) Windows XP SP 3. Whenever I click on a link in an email...memo... then it does nothing and flashes an underscore underneath it. It's so basic and so annoying there must be something I'm missing. Any help please!

If I create a hyperlink to a regular HTML file, when I click on the link, it opens in my default browser (Google Chrome) as expected. However, if I click on a link to a PDF file on a website, it opens in Internet Explorer. Before it opens, I also get the following prompt: Microsoft Office Opening http://www.example.com/example.pdf Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that this file is from a trustworthy source. Would you like to open this file? • Mozilla nonsense. Page changes size by itself

  I have never intentionally changed the size of font on latest mozilla browser install on windows machine. For example Google site is now 200% size, and I did nothing to make this happen. Whats worse is it does not change back but remembers this! Similarly other sites are too small and they remember this per site. What is going on here? I mean what nonsense! How can I undo this? And for extra points who came up with this absurd behavior at mozilla? Not making this up folks. 15.0.1 Not at all clear why it changes size or how to go back to default size for these sites Acutally it just happened again while editing this entry. Icon changes and than font size is too small.

  I am trying to create a demo for a class of mine and I want to configure "fake" domain names on my laptop. A previous question "Can I specify a port in an entry in my /etc/hosts on OS X?" contained an answer indicating that to do it you must use /etc/hosts plus changes to the iptables "If OS X uses iptables you could point xyz.com to some ip in the hosts file like 157.166.226.25 and then: sudo iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -d 157.166.226.25 -j DNAT --to-destination 127.0.0.1:3000 " Since OS X doesn't use iptables, how do I do the equivalent using the tools available on OS X? (the original "asker" seemed to know how to do this, so it wasn't explained). Thanks in advance.

  I want to host my own cloud storage solution, something like Dropbox but entirely dependent on my own central machine. This way things are more secure if setup correctly, and there are artificial storage limitations or pay-walls. Some thing similar to ownCloud: http://owncloud.org/ There is one important feature I want to have: the ability the stream movies in a web browser from my personal cloud to anywhere in the world. In the past I tried this with a NAS, and I mapped XBMC to the NAS via SFTP, and certain media types could stream in this manner. I've also used things like PLEX. In this case, I am looking for a single solution for personal cloud storage and movie streaming from that cloud into a web browser. Does anyone know if this can be accomplished? • Mac Outlook showing all links in smart quotes?

  I was given the task of fixing my friend's email today and really don't know what the problem is. When an email is sent from his laptop (Mac) from Outlook the email address link in the signature shows exactly like this: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>. Additionally the website link displays like this: www.website.com<http://www.website.com>. And lastly, the image comes through as cid:randomstringofnumbers. When I sent him an email and he sent one back it converted my signature to same weird formatting. Plus, even in the header where it shows our emails, they are displaying the same way: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>. And the weirdest thing is that this problem seems to be "compounding". So when I scroll down to the last, most recent email in the thread I see this www.website.com<http://www.website.com> next email shows this: www.website.com<http://www.website.com><http://www.website.com> and the next this: www.website.com<http://www.website.com><http://www.website.com><http://www.website.com> This is happening to the emails too, everywhere. I'm thinking this might be something to do with smart quotes and the auto formatting but I'm not sure. Could this be the problem? And if so how do I fix it?

• Weird 301 redirection by google crawler

  I have some pages on my website www.acethem.com which are having 301 redirection but they are not actually 301 redirects. e.g. www.acethem.com/pastpapers/by-year/2007/ is seen as a 301 redirection to www.acethem.com/pastpapers/by-year by google (I am using "Fetch as google" in webmaster tools. Now more weird: My paginated pages with page = 10 are all redirected to homepage: http://www.acethem.com/pastpapers/o-level/chemistry/page/10/ while http://www.acethem.com/pastpapers/o-level/chemistry/page/9/ is working properly in google crawler. Note that all these pages work fine with no redirect in browsers. Sidenote: on www.acethem.com/pastpapers/by-year/2007/, the facebook share button also points to www.acethem.com/pastpapers/by-year/.

  I have the following in robots.txt: User-agent: * Disallow: /refer.php User-agent: NinjaBot Allow: / Sitemap: http://www.mysite.com/sitemap.xml The refer.php file does various things depending on what GET parameters are passed to it. When I do a Google search, I see tons of results for pages like this: http://www.mysite.com/refer.php?o=23945 http://www.mysite.com/refer.php?o=39858 http://www.mysite.com/refer.php?o=9683 http://www.mysite.com/refer.php?o=10569 http://www.mysite.com/refer.php?o=58304 http://www.mysite.com/refer.php?o=69604 Is the reason that Google is indexing these because I don't have an asterisk * after refer.php in the robots.txt ? Should changing it to Disallow: /refer.php* fix the problem?

  Hi, Can anyone advise if its possible to pass data via JQUERY to an ASP.NET MVC controller action and have a view rendered in new browser tab based on the model data passed to the action method. My scenario is that I have a Jqgrid populated with product info on a page. The user would tick the items in the grid that they would like a label produced for. After they've made their slection they would click a button and I would like (if possible) to render a view of that contains a label for each selected item and have the view render in a new browser tab. All the code to allow the selections and post the relevant data back to the action method is all working fine and I know its easy to use the Jquery $(selector).load() command to populate an element on the current page with the HTML returned from the action. But is it possible to populate an element on a page in a new browser tab. If it is how would I go about it? Hope this make sense.

  When you use jquery UI dialog, all works well, except for one thing. When the browser is resized, the dialog just stays in it's initial position which can be really annoying. You can test it out on: http://jqueryui.com/demos/dialog/ Click on the "modal dialog" example and resize your browser. I'd love to be able to let dialogs autocenter when the browser resizes. • How to automate testing of a browser-based app?

  If it were a windows program, I would use Auto it to automate testing. Is there something similar for browser-based apps? Nothing too complex, it should just allow scripting (preferable for me to macro-recording) to simulate human interaction with the browser, which means being able to identify fields of a form by name, inject text into some, simulate mouse-click on others, etc and then, after submitting a form, should be able to read text certain named controls, check the status of others (checked, radio group index, read-only, etc). While I do appreciate a full featured product, I don't appreciate a steep learning curve. so something as simple as the scripting of Auto It woudl be fine. I don't know if it makes a difference which browser is used, but I could live with MSIE 6 or higher (maybe 7 or higher at a push).

  Visual Studio 2010 changed the help system to run a little daemon and launch the system default web browser to view it. I'm using Firefox for my system browser but would like to use Chrome for VS help. Is there an option to change the Help browser that I'm not seeing in Tools|Options? If not, is there a workaround or registry setting to do this? As a backup I've been using H3Viewer but I'd like to be able to get context-sensitive F1 help from within the VS IDE.

• Flash: Correctly handling click-and-drag outside the browser?

  What's the correct way to detect, from Flash, when someone has started a drag within the browser (eg, a MOUSE_DOWN event), dragged the mouse outside the browser window, released the button, then moved the mouse back over the browser? For example (assuming StackOverflow was a Flash application): I've tried the "obvious" thing, checking event.buttonDown in the MOUSE_MOVE handler, but even though the mouse button is up, event.buttonDown is true in step 2 (above). So, is there any other way to check the "real" status of the mouse button? Or any other way to handle this situation?

• Default controller name is removed on browser refresh (CodeigniterPHP/Nginx issue?)

  For all pages in my codeigniter app except my default controller, when I refresh the browser the url isn't affected as one would expect. However for my default controller, main.php, when when I refresh the browser at "http://localhost/main" or "http://mysite.com/main", the main part is stripped off the url. So the browser bar shows just "http://localhost" or "http://mysite.com". Totally lost on where to start with this but was just wondering if anyone has come across this before...? Here's what I think could be the relevant part of my nginx.conf (if Nginx is the problem). if ($request_uri ~* ^(/main(/index)?|/index(.php)?)/?$) { rewrite ^(.*)$ / permanent; }
