If you have been following our plans in this area, you know that this is the release unifying BEA ALBPM product, which became Oracle BPM10gR3, with the Oracle stack. • Nucleus Research Note: Oracle's Focus on Usability in Fusion Applications

  By Misha Vaughan, Applications User Experience I recently noticed that Nucleus Research Inc. released a research note summarizing their findings on Oracle Fusion Applications. It's always nice when an outside firm is savvy enough to acknowledge the value of a user experience strategy. When it is applied to what Oracle has done with Fusion Applications,  it's even more satisfying.  In the note, Nucleus states: "Based on the demos and testimonials from early adopters Nucleus has reviewed, Oracle has clearly focused on usability with in-application analytics and other smart application features.  "In Oracle Fusion Applications, Oracle has built not just transactional corporate applications where users enter and extract data, but smarter applications that driver user productivity." Whilst talking to various applicants, I am asked the same, broad question – what are we looking for? Time and time I have spoken about targeting the best, or targeting the best fit. I am an advocate of the latter, hence when approaching this question I answer very simply – ‘we are looking for the individual, that will fit into the culture and environment that is uniquely Oracle’. So, what is the environment/culture like here at Oracle? What makes Oracle so unique and a great place to work, especially as a graduate? Much like our business model, we are forward and innovative thinkers – we are not afraid to try new things, whether it is a success or failure. We are all highly driven, motivated and successful individuals – Oracle is a firm believer that in order to be driven, motivated and successful, you need to be surrounded by like minded people. And last, we are all autonomous and independent, self starters – at Oracle you are treated as an adult. • Podcast: Dell Perot Systems Relies on Oracle In-Memory Database Cache

  Recently we spoke with Bill Binko, Technology Consultant at Dell Perot Systems, about a high volume web-based content delivery system they implemented for a client with Oracle In-Memory Database Cache. Their client needed to respond to ~1 billion hits (web requests) per day, but hadn't been able to support this load. Oracle In-Memory Database Cache allowed for multiple & complicated queries to take place without ever hitting the disk...providing sub-millisecond response time and ability to manage much higher high volumes of data. Old System: Old SQL Server Database, over 300 servers, difficult to maintain. New System: One Oracle Database 11g instance, multiple Oracle RAC nodes, backed up by Oracle Data Guard, and Oracle In-Memory Database Cache to cut query response times by 10x. • Pre-built Oracle VirtualBox Images

  I’m thrilled to see that Justin Kestelyn has a post that pre-built Oracle VirtualBox images are now available on OTN.  There are VMs for various Oracle software stacks including one for Database, one for Java with Glassfish, and one for SOA and BPM products that includes WebLogic Server. This is just one example of the synergy of a combined Oracle and Sun delivering improvements for customers.  These VMs make it even more straight-forward to get started with Oracle software in a development environment without having to worry about initial software installation and configuration. I’ve been a bit quiet lately on the blogging front, but I’m currently working on another area leveraging the best of Oracle and Sun.  Oracle is uniquely positioned to deliver engineered systems that optimize the entire stack of software and hardware.  You’ve probably seen the announcements about Exalogic and I’m excited about the potential to deliver major advancements for middleware.  More to come…

• Oracle JDK 7u10 released with new security features

  A few days ago, we released JRE and JDK 7 update 10. This release adds support for the following new platforms: Windows 8 on x86-64. Note that Modern UI (aka Metro) mode is not supported. Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8. Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) This release also introduces new features that provide enhanced security for Java applet and webstart applications, specifically: The Java runtime tracks if it is updated to the latest security baseline. If you try to execute an unsigned applet with an outdated version of Java, a warning dialog will prompt you to update before running the applet. The Java runtime includes a hardcoded best before date. It is assumed that a new version will be released before this date. If the client has not been able to check for an update prior to this date, the Java runtime will assume that it is insecure and start warning the user prior to executing any applets. The Java control panel now includes an option to set the desired security level on a low-medium-high-very high scale, as well as an option to disable Java applets and webstart entirely. This level controls things such as if the Java runtime is allowed to execute unsigned code, and if so what type of warning will be displayed to the user. • How to install an application manually into Natty's Application list

  I am trying to install ZendStudio 8 (Eclipse based) on 11.04 and am kinda stuck at the part were I can get it into the Applications list. ZendStudio prior to version 8 came with a magic .bin which installed it all no problems, but now it simply comes as a folder all set up to be run as-is. I have copied this folder to /opt/ZendStudio, and I can launch the program using /opt/ZendStudio/ZendStudio but in the Unity Launcher it shows up with a grey box and a big Question Mark as it's icon. However, I'd like it to be show up in the Applications list so I can search for it and load it like a normal application. I also want to Pin it to the launcher so it stays there the whole time, and I tried this with running it directly but it didn't work and it didn't load up the application icon. Any ideas how I can finish the install so it is in my menus etc?
