• I've released a software product - how do I maximize exposure given no budget and limited time?

  I'd like to reach out to the community on this one. As a software developer, I'm not an expert salesperson or marketing guru - I think in code and not much else. Most developers I come across are like this and also tend to be serious penny-pinchers. Let's say, as a developer, I recently released a new software product that I'm pretty sure will be a hit IF people only knew about it. Assume a budget of $0.00 and limited time each day (i.e. 30 to 60 minutes). What can I do, within those limitations, to maximize exposure? If possible, please back up your reply with at least two working examples.

• Checking collision of bullets and Asteroids

  I'm trying to detect collision between two list of bullets and asteroids. The code works fine, but when the bullet intersects with an asteroid, and that bullet passes through another asteroid, the code gives an assertion, and it says about it can't increment the iterator. • Blank Screen on 12.04

  Can hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 and login but no fixes work. Tried nomodeset and everything else appears to have upgraded but can't see anything. I really need this computer to work. It is an old Dell with 1.6 processor with old school monitor. I don't know why people are giving my question negative votes. If you know how to fix this, then please help me, as I have read and tried all the solutions that I've found. Just for the record reformatting is not fixing it, and I can't get a boot CD to load either. If you know how to use the blank screen fix tutorial, please explain cos I'm lost. Most people don't understand this stuff and an easy "how-to" fix would be nice.

• How to recover disk and files after 10.04 boot failure?

  I have a 1TB HDD with four Windows XP partitions and a 120GB HDD with 10.04. While working in Ubuntu, due to delay and failure to shutdown, I switched off the system. Next it failed to boot in Ubuntu and stopped at initramfs. After that, I tried to repair from the booting stage. By mistake instead of hdd no I used partition no. This damaged the Windows also. Then Windows XP was reloaded and is running. When I boot with 12.04, it is able to detect the 120GB HDD, but, it is unable to mount. I am unable to access the files. I would like to revive the disk and recover files. Would appreciate any help.

  I just removed the poll at 10:52, so this is the final result: My conclusions out of it: While the removal of UltraSPARC I to VI+ support in Solaris 11 may hit some of the people voting in the categories "Wait?" to "6 month", most of the users keep Solaris 10 running on their existing system anyway or migrate that late that even the newest system have reached their end-of-service-live or are near of it, so a migration doesn't sound that feasible. So i assume Product Management was right with their decision to remove the support in order to make the feature i can't talk of possible, as i don't think that many of the early migrators are still using the system in question, as most systems have reached EOSL. Didn't thought that there would be people waiting three years and more ...

• How to populate a form list with buttons using javascript

  I made a script that, when you press one button(accessories) the selection(mylist) populates with one array(accessoryData), and when you hit the other button(weapons) the other array(weaponData) populates the selection. However, in the current state of the code the second button press is not re-populating the selection. What is wrong here? Also if there is a more efficient way to do this, that might be helpful. • How can I reconnect to a ssh session after a broken pipe?

  So I was running apt-get upgrade on a server when the router decided it had been too long since it last made me angry: It dropped all connection. Moral of the story is to use screen a lot when you're on a bum router. Anyway, I logged back in and found in htop that the process was still hanging there, still waiting for my Y/n to upgrade (hadn't hit it yet, luckily). Is there any way I can reattach to a session that had been broken off? I ended up just killing it since it wasn't in the middle of package management but it would be great to know for future reference.

(This talk became the basis for my paper on injecting errors for fun and profit.) • possible to use an IP derived from Dynamic DNS in htaccess IP allow/deny commands?

  On a website I manage, I want to use an .htaccess file to allow access to a certain administrative directory only from my home IP address, which is dynamically assigned by my ISP and therefore changes -- not regularly, but it does happen. I also have an account from DynDNS and have one of the auto-update clients making sure it always points to my actual home IP address. I don't actually host anything at home; I just have set up the Dynamic DNS account. Is there any way to combine these features: that is, is it possible write the .htaccess allow/deny commands at my outside webhost in a way that my home IP address is not hard coded into the command, but instead is somehow derived from the Domain Name that the DynDNS has assigned me, by doing a real-time lookup every time the directory's .htaccess file is hit?   I own a content publishing website developed using CakePHP(tm) v 2.1.2 and 5.1.63 MySQL. It was developed by a freelance developer who kept remote access to the database which I wasn’t aware of. One day he accessed to the site and overwrote all the data. After the attack, my hosting provider disabled the remote access to our database and changed the password. But somehow he accessed the site database again and overwrote some information. We’ve managed to stop the attack second time by taking the site down immediately. But now we’re suspecting that he’ll attack again. What we could identified that he’s running a query and changing every information from the database in matter of a sec. Is there any possible way to detect the way he’s accessing our database without remote access or knowing our Cpanel password? Or to identify whether he has left something inside the site that granting him access to our database?

• Nexus S 4g not detected by computer

  A little bit of a disclaimer, I have very little knowledge of the correct terminology for some of the things I'm going to ask about, and I apologize in advance I have a Nexus S 4g phone that is, at the moment of writing, connected to my 11.10 computer through its USB charger cable. In the past, connecting the phone like this has allowed me to transfer files between my computer and my phone; I'm able to get my music onto my phone, and my photos onto my computer, for example. For some reason, this has stopped working. My phone still charges its battery when connected to the computer, but neither the computer nor the phone recognized that they are connected. Is there something I can do to get the phone and the computer to detect each other? I don't know how to fix this, and it's more than a little frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Ubuntu 11.10 USB 3.0 HDD

  I have a problem with my external HDD (WD My Book Essential 1TB) working on USB 3.0 port. I'm using dual boot setup with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.10, both 64 bit. While I'm running Windows and rebooting back to Windows everything works well. When I'm switchin to ubuntu everything works great as well. But after 1st reboot from ubuntu neither windows nor ubuntu mount the external drive. I have to reboot the device manually. I suspect that the problem is with unmounting the device on shutdown on ubuntu. The case concern only usb 3.0. When i plug the same device into usb 2 port the problem doesn't persist. Does any1 hit the same problem or have a clue what might goin wrong?

• Scripted Motion Paths (?) (XNA)

  Ok, so the title isn't the greatest because this is a lot more general. Say I want to have the player be able to hit A and have their ship model roll to the right, and shift to the right of the screen, while the camera stays centered. Would I do that through programming (ie. set waypoints for the model and keep the camera focus still) or do it through animation ( so the ship model actually rolls and moves right, and just play those frames)(I actually don't know how to do this kind of 3D animation yet, haven't looked into it. • wireless not working, but wired does

  First of all I'm new to Ubuntu, just bought a laptop with Ubuntu yesterday. I disable wireless networking in the upper right corner, and I don't have option to enable it back. I tried a lot of things and none is seems to work: I installed Wicd network manger, and it says no wireless network found, but i assure you there are several of them as my smart tv can detect them. when I type rfkill list, I get this: 0: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no when I type ifconfig wlan0, I get this: wlan0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

• Setting up wireless drivers in Ubuntu 9.10?

  I've just installed ubuntu to a notebook, deleting the windows xp that was installed before, so now nothing works I couldn't solve the problem of getting the blank screen with the versions 12.. and 10.. so now there is 9.10 installed, which works fine. Well, it boots up at least. I can't get working the drivers though. I'm totally new to linux, and I've read in some forums that in this version you have to install all of them yourself, because the system won't detect them automatically. Therefore I tried to find the drive for my wireless card, but actually I have no clue how to get it work. Could someone please help me out? So here are the specs: System installed as mentioned: Ubuntu 9.10 Computer: Acer Aspire 3100 Wireless according to laptop specs: 10/100 Fast Ethernet, Wake-on-LAN ready, Acer InviLink™ 802.11b/g Wi-Fi CERTIFIED I would really appreciate some detailed description to setting up my internet Thanks!!

• Upgrading Ubuntu to 12.04 stuck

  While upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04, I'm stalled at the step: Installing new version of config file /etc/init/udevtrigger.conf The Terminal in the Distribution Upgrade window is expanded, there is no prompt for user input. I've hit enter a few times but it doesn't change anything but add a blank line after the last print statement. It's been sitting for ~6 hours at this stage. No other windows or dialog boxes are open. The upgrade has progressed through "Preparing to Upgrade", "Setting new software channels", and "Getting new packages". Under the progress bar (which estimates 1 day 2 hours remaining, and has for some time), it says Preparing to configure libpcap0.8. I'd take a screen-shot, but it won't let me save the file anywhere. The progress bar is about 1/3 complete.

• How do I get a Realtek Wireless USB Airlink101 AWLL5088 working?

  I am running Ubuntu 11.10, 32bit. I ordered them a Realtek Airlink101 AWLL5088 based upon the relative ease for linux installation. I am having trouble installing the drivers. I copied the drivers to /usr/src/ and ran sudo ./install.sh from that director listed above. I have tried ndiswrapper, and allowing the default drivers, but with no luck. It seems to continue to try and use the default free drivers, even though I have blacklisted them using the guide described here. There was no error, I was asked which card I was using. I looked at the packaging and at the support page, and guessed number 2, allowed to finish, and rebooted. It continued detect the wireless network after the reboot, but would never complete the connection. I would appreciate any feedback. I am kind of stuck trying to figure this out.

• What is the most cross-browser/system compatible option for 3d graphics on a web page?

  I would like to develop a bit of functionality for a web site that involves a bit of 3D - the user can move around objects, rotate them and texture them. So far I've looked into: WebGL (in particular three.js) and it looks great, but it's not supported in IE nor IOS. IOS supports the <canvas> tag, but only 2d. It looks like three.js has an unsupported hack to make a 3d thing use the 2d canvas instead without textures, but this looks like a hack. I also considered resorting to Flash which works on most browsers, but that won't work on IOS. What's my best option for doing 3d web graphics on the vast array of browsers and interfaces? At the moment I'm thinking WebGL for web (and ask people to use chrome or firefox, and take the hit on IE) and then maybe write a native app for IOS, but I am not sure if there are better alternatives available that I don't know of.

• Having a list of rooms with theirs connection to each other, how do I find isolated room groups?

  I'm trying to create a small roguelike and went as far as random generating rooms and corridors. Each room is an instanced object and contain an arraylist of the others rooms connected by a corridor. I can single out unconnected rooms but how can I know the rooms that are connected only to each other but not to most of the others, forming an island? to illustrated better the problem here is an image from the console on a bogged level. Rooms 5 and 6 are connected only to each other. What algorithm can I use to detect that?
