• Help dealing with data dependency between two registration forms

  I have a tricky issue here with a registration of both a user and his/her pet. Both the user and the pet are treated as separate entities and both require separate registration forms. However, the user's pet has to be linked to the user via a foreign key in the database. The process is basically that when a new user joins the site, firstly they register their pet, then they register themselves. The reason for this order is to check their pet's eligibility for the site (there are some criteria to be met) first, instead of getting the user to sign up only to then find out their pet is ineligible. It is this ordering of the form submissions which is causing me a bit of a headache, as follows... The site is being developed with an MVC framework, and the User registration process is managed via a method in a User_form controller, while the pet registration process is managed via a method in the Pet_form controller. The pet registration form happens first, and the pet data can be saved without the owner_id at this stage, with the user id possibly being added (e.g by retrieving pet's id from session) following user registration. However, doing it this way could potentially result in redundant data, where pet records would be created in the database, but if the user doesn't actually register themselves too, then the pets will be ownerless records in the DB. Other option is to serialize the new pet's data at the pet registration stage, don't save it to the DB until the user fills out their registration form. Once the user is created, i can pass serialised data AND the owner_id to a method in the Pet Model which can update the DB. However, I also need to set the newly created $pet to $this-pet which I then access for a sequence of other related forms. Should I just set the session variable in the model method? Then in the Pet controller constructor, do a check for pet stored in session, if yes, assign to $this-pet... If this makes any sense to anybody and you have some advice, i'd be grateful to hear it!

• Need advanced mod_rewrite assistance

  This is driving me bananas. I have tried multiple fixes, and have even found a generator (generateit.net/mod-rewrite/) to create my .htaccess files, but I cannot get this to work. The .htaccess file is being read - if I put garbage characters in, I get a 500 server error. Also, mod rewrite was working in a simpler format, but the client wants even more SEO, so here I am. My intention: Take the url of brinkofdesign.com/portfolio/123/456/some_seo_text.html and send it to brinkofdesign.com/brink_portfolio.php?catid=123&locationid=456. The full contents of my .htaccess file are: Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^portfolio([^/]*)/([^/]*)/([^/]*)\.html$ /portfolio_brink.php?catid=$1&locationid=$2&page=$3 [NC,L] RewriteRule ^(.*)blog(.+)([0-9+])(.+).html$ blog.php?blogid=$3 [NC,L] RewriteRule ^blog.xml$ blogfeed.php The blog and blogfeed parts work fine. If it matters, I do have an actual portfolio.php page - could this be breaking it? There is no actual /portfolio/ folder - this is just part of the SEO nme. Also, the host is 1and1.com. Real life tests: brinkofdesign.com/portfolio/1/1/birmingham_al_corporate_branding.html loads my actual portfolio.php page - which is supposed to be a landing page for the portfolio, as opposed to the brink_portfolio.php page, which is my detail record page. No variables are passed (echoing out the contents of the $_GET array gives an empty array). Typing in an non SEO link like brinkofdesign.com/brink_portfolio.php?catid=1&locationid=1 does work correctly. Gurus, please help me!

• Help with a loop to return UIImage from possible matches

  I am parsing a list of locations and would like to return a UIImage with a flag based on these locations. I have a string with the location. This can be many different locations and I would like to search this string for possible matches in an NSArray, and when there's a match, it should find the appropriate filename in an NSDictionary. Here's an example of the NSDictionary and NSArray: NSDictionary *dict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"franceFlag", @"france", @"greeceFlag", @"greece", @"spainFlag", @"spain", @"norwayFlag", @"norway", nil]; NSArray *array = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: @"france" @"greece" @"spain" @"portugal" @"ireland" @"norway", nil]; Obviously I'll have a lot more countries and flags in both. I am missing something (and perhaps not even doing it right in the first place) The issue is, the locationString could have several locations in the same country, described something like this "Barcelona, Spain", "Madrid, Spain", "North Spain", etc., but I just want to retrieve "Spain" in this case. (Also, notice caps for each country). Basically, I want to search the locationString I pass into the method for a possible match with one of the countries listed in the NSArray. If/When one is found, it should continue into the NSDictionary and grab the appropriate flag based on the correct matched string from the array. I believe the best way would then to take the string from the array, as this would be a stripped-out version of the location. Any help to point me in the right direction for the last bit is greatly appreciated.

  I am using Selenium WebDriver and coding in Python I have looked all over the place and the best I could find were things written in different languages. I also tried to use the export tool on Selenium IDE but when I look at the data says that the function is not supported for export. EDIT: The reason I need the browser to open up with a larger resolution is because the web application that I am testing is supporting tablet resolution as so elements are different depending on the resolution of the browser window. • Help- CSS styles for text links also affecting image links

  I've been working on this one for about an hour now, and I'm about ready to pull my hair out. What seems like it should be a simple one or two lines of CSS apparently isn't. I have a Posterous blog with a custom theme I designed for a client, viewable here: http://phar-ma.com/ I obviously use CSS to style the text links in the posts. My problem is, the same styles are also being applied to images that have a larger version to view, since Posterous automatically turns them into links to the larger versions (the smaller images aren't turned into links). So basically I need to figure out how the return the styling of the link images to the same as the non-link images. Right now they have weird spacing and borders around them (because of the styles for the text links) and those change when you hover over them. They're also not centered correctly. I've tried just about every piece of CSS code I know, and I've had absolutely no luck. I also searched on Google and found this: http://perishablepress.com/press/2008/10/14/css-remove-link-underlines-borders-linked-images/ but still no luck with that either. • I need to sort the facets that come back from SOLR by relevancy

  I have within my SOLR index song objects which belong to a higher level album object. An example is shown below: <song> <album title>Blood Sugar Sex Magic</album title> <song title>Under the Bridge</song title> <description>A sad song about junkies</description> </song> What I can do at the moment is create a facet on the album title so that a search on songs will also show me what albums contain hits for that keyword. The default behaviour for SOLR is that the facets are shown in the order of most hits to least. However what I want to achieve is the facet list to be sorted according to the relevancy of the top hit for that album. For example a search on the word "sad" may show a facet with one hit for "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" and there may also be an album called "Sad Clown songs" where there are 10 hits. "Sad clown songs" will show as the first facet even though it may be that "Under the bridge" comes up as the most relevant song. My question is how can I get all the facets back but then have them ordered by the relevancy of the songs within them? If I would need to change or extend some underlying SOLR code what would that be? Thanks in advance.

  i have a system there user(sender) can write a note to friends(receivers), number of receivers=0. Text of the message is saved in DB and visible to sender and all receivers then they login to system. Sender can add more receivers at any time. More over any of receivers can edit the message and even remove it from DB. For this system i created 3 tables, shortly: users(userID, username, password) messages(messageID, text) list(id, senderID, receiverID, messageID) in table "list" each row corresponds to pair sender-receiver, like sender_x_ID -- receiver_1_ID -- message_1_ID sender_x_ID -- receiver_2_ID -- message_1_ID sender_x_ID -- receiver_3_ID -- message_1_ID Now the problem is: 1. if user deletes the message from table "messages" how to automatically delete all rows from table "list" which correspond to deleted message. Do i have to include some foreign keys? More important: 2. if sender has let say 3 receivers for his message1 (username1, username2 and username3) and at certain moment decides to add username4 and username5 and at the same time exclude username1 from the list of receivers. PHP code will get the new list of receivers (username2, username3, username4, username5) That means insert to table "list" sender_x_ID -- receiver_4_ID -- message_1_ID sender_x_ID -- receiver_5_ID -- message_1_ID and also delete from table "list" the row corresponding to user1 (which is not in the list or receivers any more) sender_x_ID -- receiver_1_ID -- message_1_ID which sql query to send from PHP to make it in an easy and intelligent way? Please help! Examples of sql queries would be perfect!

  The script below worked on my Mac OS X. I'm now using Ubuntu OS, and the script is no longer working. I'm wondering if there's something that I need to change here? But I have no experience with server side languages, I have heard the saying "choose one and stick to it" several times in reference to programming. I have chosen coldfusion. Now I have no clue what to do or where to start. Now to the details: It will be a site for food showcases. Food menus sorted by cultural origin, vegetarian or meat kind, etc. Things like that. I intend to build a web site that enables subscriptions, and keeps them updated whenever updates are made. And a commenting system to encourage user feedback. And I would like the site to have a database of food items (as mentioned earlier); from my research coldfusion will enable me to do this. I would like resources that I could go to, and do more research myself. And all recommendations that can be provided. Whether you think I dont need coldfusion, and if I can get this done with just flex and as3. • Help me sort programing languages a bit

  Hi, so I asked here few days ago about C# and its principles. Now, if I may, I have some additional general questions about some languages, becouse for novice like me, it seems a bit confusing. To be exact I want to ask more about language functions capabilities than syntax and so. To be honest, its just these special functions that bothers me and make me so confused. For exmaple, C has its printf(), Pascal has writeln() and so. I know in basic the output in assembler of these funtions would be similiar, every language has more or less its special functions. For console output, for file manipulation, etc. But all these functions are de-facto part of its OS API, so why is for example in C distinguished between C standard library functions and (on Windows) WinAPI functions when even printf() has to use some Windows feature, call some of its function to actually show desired text on console window, becouse the actuall "showing" is done by OS. Where is the line between language functions and system API? Now languages I dont quite understand - Python, Ruby and similiar. To be more specific, I know they are similiar to java and C# in term they are compiled into bytecode. But, I do not unerstand what are its capabilities in term of building GUI applications. I saw tutorial for using Ruby to program GUI applications on Linux and Windows. But isn´t that just some kind of upgrade? I mean fram other tutorials It seemed like these languages was first intended for small scripts than building big applications. I hope you understand why I am confused. If you do, please help me sort it out a bit, I have no one to ask.

  I am new to PHP- first time developer. I am working on my web application and it is nearly done; nevertheless, most of my sql was done directly via code using direct mysql requests. This is the way I approached it: In classes_db.php I declared the db settings and created methods that I use to open and close DB connections. • Help me refactor my World Cup Challenge Script

  I am setting up a World Cup Challenge between some friends, and decided to practice my Ruby and write a small script to automate the process. The Problem: 32 World Cup qualifiers split into 4 tiers by their Fifa ranking 8 entries Each entry is assigned 1 random team per tier Winner takes all :-) I wrote something that suffices yet is admittedly brute force. But, in my attempt to improve my Ruby, I acknowlege that this code isn't the most elegant solution around - So I turn to you, the experts, to show me the way. • Simple jQuery syntax help, don't know where I've gone wrong

  I'm having trouble with a jQuery code at the moment, I know WHERE the problem lies, but I don't know what the problem is exactly. Probably very basic, but I'm new to this. You can see a (non)working fiddle here: http://www.jsfiddle.net/CvZeQ/ Basically I want to set different .click function based on whatever is selected (I have 5 image maps, each with a different #mapname, and want each to pertain to a different variable (answer1, answer2, answer3...) so as to store the selected 'answer' for each map.) • Help renaming svn repository

  Here is the deal: I created an SVN repository, say, foo. It is at http://www.example.com/foo. Then I did an svn checkout. I made some updates and changes to my local copy of the code over the week. I haven't committed yet. I realized that I wanted to rename the repository. So I did this: svn copy http://example.com/foo http://example.com/bar svn delete http://example.com/foo I finish my changes (and local svn still thinks I'm working under "foo".) svn commit fails because the repo has been renamed. I try to use svn switch --relocate but it yells at me because svn is awful. I try using the script here to replace "foo" with "bar" in my billion .svn/ folders. This replace is taking a long time. I wonder if something hung? Or maybe sshfs failed? I kill it. Ctrl-C. I look and see that half my files have "foo" and the others have "bar" in the URLs in the sundry .svn/ folders. All I want to do is commit my files with the new name. I could re-checkout the branch, but then I have no way to remember which files I changed, which is why I was using version control in the first place, and svn is so godawful at moving and renaming things. What do I need to do to: Have a "clean" copy of my "bar" svn branch? and, most importantly: Commit the changes I made?

  Hi, i created a scaffolded application in rails by the name of product. BUT WHERE IS THIS VARIABLE PASSED? The funtion inturn calls new.rhtml which contains <% form_for(@product) do |f| % #all form elments declaration <% f.submit "Create" % <%= end % Here @product is initialized in the controller file and passed to this new.rhtml. So where does form_for(@product) gets the data? How does the control gets tranfered to create function in controller file when submit button is clicked? No where action is specified to the controller file. in the create function, wat does redirec_to(@product) specify where @product is an object received from the new.html file... I am very much confused on the basics of ROR. Somone pls help me clarify this. pardon me for making such a big post. I have lots of doubts in this single piece of code
